Are you able to do a template breakdown video? We mix in ableton as well and curios to see your workflow and with the busses or sends and also what the mastering chain looks like. Thanks
Awesome mix! It seems like you were primarily actively mixing the vocals and not changing too much with the band. Is that accurate? If so, what’s your philosophy behind that?
Thanks brother, I definitely do make changes as needed but generally speaking they’ll be pretty minor adjustments. Mostly juggling keys, and electrics around depending on the song/part. This particular band was also struggling a little with some of the parts, so I was trying not to highlight anything too much.
Sounds amazing! How is your audio video sync handled? I really want to move to a DAW for live stream audio, but concerned about that! Has Ableton been solid?
I’m curious as well. We’re running vMix for video and Logic for audio, but I always have to delay my video feeds. The delay changes too, which is frustrating.
This is a great question. When I first started doing DAW broadcast, I was feeding audio and video into vMix and delaying video because my audio was so delayed. I was having to do all kinds of weird audio routing in software because I was trying to do it all on one machine. Currently im using DVS for all the audio I/O on this PC at a buffer size of 1024. 2 of my dante outs run to an AVIO output into an embedder that drops the audio right into the feed going into our encoder. We have a Ross carbonite handling video with a frame sync on all the inputs, and for the most part by the time everything is said and done it all lines up fine. One benefit to ableton is that it defaults have PDC turned on when monitoring so you don’t really have to think about manually delaying your plugins. I still try to keep channels that need to be phase aligned running identical plugins just in case. Never had an issue with it though. Ableton has its quirks but I really like how well it handles live use. I’ve used Reaper, Pro Tools, and Logic as well for broadcast and they all work well in their own right.
killer mix as always! your team is ridiculously talented! out of curiosity, what are those mics you have on the choir? in the room (through the PA), are you able to push them loud enough for the congregation to hear them? i struggle with amplifying a choir in a full-band situation like this.
Thanks brother! These choir mics are just a couple of AT2035. They work fine, but there’s certainly better options out there. They’re pretty far behind the PA so they don’t get too much bleed. I also keep a pretty aggressive expander on them too so they aren’t really active unless the choir is really singing loud. I had a chance to use some DPA 4097 last week and they’re the best choir mics I’ve ever used. It’s crazy how hard you can push them. They aren’t cheap but I’d say they’re worth every penny.
Goodness Matt - this is so good. I have mix envy 😂

Love this !!! thank you so much for sharing. wanted to check what heaphones are you using? or do you mix with speakers only ? . Thank you ☺
Sure thing! I mix on my 64 a12t IEMs. This space doesn’t really work well for monitors but we do have some old JBLs set up if we ever need them.
Hi Matt, can you please get the link for Hendrickson live stream mix template?
