A NEEDEDDDDDD Video coming from a drummer myself! People need this info! Thanks bro
Just sealed my decision on getting a universal. That sounds like a black beauty and might even be a great value truth customs. I legit can't tell the difference. Just in time for getting a snare for the church I'm at. Thank you!
It really does sound pretty good. The universal isn’t quite as “tight” as a truth but you can get it pretty dialed. Especially after dampening, it’s hard to tell the difference.
@@MattDoesAudio And that's all that matters to me. if i can get it to that signature deep sound im happy. Would you mind defining "tight"? I always thought tightness sounding snares involved the how much the snare wire was cranked.
@@RogueFPS nah that’s on me; probably not the right phrasing. I’m talking about overtones and the resonance of the drum itself. They’re easier to get sounding right if that makes sense.
@@MattDoesAudio Ah that makes more sense. Which dampening and good tuning/processing could remedy that and make the universal a great-value truth/black beauty 😅
@@RogueFPS 100% the universal is a great snare 👍
Heyyyyy thanks mannnnn
This is awesome!! What touchscreen are you using for your Waves rig??
For superrack I use a planar touch screen and for broadcast I have 2 Raven mti touchscreens. In hindsight I probably would skip the ravens and get a couple 32” screens to mount on the wall and get a nicer fader bank. Works fine though.
@@MattDoesAudiothanks bro!! Any issues or special process to get the Planar to play nice with MacOS?
@@scottschuster7626 I have the UPDD touch drivers installed, and it performs pretty well.
Thanks so much! What cymbals do you use?
These are all Istanbul cymbals but we use heartbeat a lot too. 24” ride 2x 20”crash and 17” hats 👍
Thanks for this. Do your drummers tend to use rimshots for big backbeat groove moments, or without backbeats like your demo at the end of your vid?
Also, what TuneBot frequencies do you use for your toms? Those sound great! Coated Emperors on top, Clear ambassadors on bottom?
Rack tom is usually around 97Hz and Floor tom is around 72Hz. I will say these heads were kind of old so they were tuned a little higher to make up for some of the loss of attack. Yep! those are the heads I use.
Probably a bit of both tbh. I was just noodling around, I'm not really a drummer hahaha.
