I honestly never read the book. I wasnt even aware it was based on the book. But i loved the movie immensely as a child checking it out of my school library more than once. It left an impact on me as a child and even though i havent seen it in years it brought me back to my childhood. Very nice review. I'll need to read the book in the future :)
I will admit that was a surprise. I was thinking you would do Christmas stories we didn't know came from a book. Like It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story. 4:08- 4:26 That I knew since I have a copy of the book in a big chapter book. Though one can argue that the python was changed to the crocodile and the volcano was changed to the earthquake.
Great retrospective here! Also, the reaction to the new film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black seems blown out of proportion. I think it looks decent enough, with a premise that fits in with the book, the first film, and even the animated series (despite the twist that it's a videogame). I also like that it's confirmed to be a sequel rather than a remake, apparently with multiple references to Alan Parrish's time spent in the jungle of Jumanji. It'll be similar to Goosebumps (also with JB): not the greatest adaptation, but worthy of the franchise.
Bloody useless yeah, I think from what I've read since this episode premiered, I'll be avoiding the new Jumanji. If they want to tie it in with the first one, they've already confused the heck out of me.
Thank you so much Jaimetud, I have been waiting for the Jumanji review. This From Pages to Pictures episode is my dream come true. Thank you so much and Merry Christmas.😉😉😉😉😉👍👍👍👍
Only one moment terrified me which was that Plant Pod, but when you get older it's not that scary at all. Too bad Siskel and Ebert overlooked the appropriate rating of the PG on this film. Because obviously PG films would have some scenes that may be too intense and frightening for younger kids.
@@tylerfish2701. Personally aren't against dark moments if execution is excellent. Those movies still offer real stakes and compelling character conflict, concurr?
The trailer for the sequel is a mixed bag. Sure the comedy feels out of place for a follow up to a dark adventure, but it does feature funny scenes, seriously scary and intense moments, and spectacular special effects.
@@moviemaniac9034 Back when I did this episode, I was more optimistic. I have yet to see those movies and now that I have had friends who not only saw them but reviewed them... I'm glad I didn't.
Merry Christmas, Jaimetud! I became 17 on the 20th, and I was wondering if you'd ever compare the Terry Gilliam film The Adventures of Baron Munchausen to the book it's based on by Rudolf Erich Raspe?
Well, it's now 2023, and there have been two more Jumanji movies, and they are much better than the 90s movie. No offense to the great Robin Williams, but you just can't beat the Rock, Kevin Hart and Jack Black in a movie together.
Hahaha loved the little shop of horrors tribute at the end! 🌱
I appreciate a good musical reference.
@@MovieFan1912. Extremely quality quote.
There was one theme in the book that was pretty good. Its to finish what you started.

wow
so siskel and ebert were right in your case
@@TylerRakstis How ironic since the sequels are PG-13, yet have none of what made the original terrifying in the first place.

Love it
I Love Both This Movie And The Remake
Jokes on the critics. I watched this movie as a kid and loved it!
Same here 😎✌🏻!
The kids in my class were terrified of the game because they saw the animals and they were just terrified of all of it.
Was it for a school assignment?
oh yea

Yeah... let's just say my interest in the sequel has waned drastically since I made this video. The trailer doesn't help things either.

I actually thought of that once. Great movie. Reminds me very much in retrospect of the works of George Melies and Winsor McCay.
I love this movie screw the critics!
Thank Lord Shmooze for a short video! Too many 30+ minute retrospectives everywhere.
I like the the movie more.
Nice review, but you did forget about the Jumanji animated series. Oh well.
I"m curious what you thought about the animated series as well.
