- Remember when the good guys faced down the bad guys in the name of justice and rule of law? I guess westerns and rugged individualism don't promote the Hollywood globalist "progressive" agenda. If Americans boycott crappy new movies maybe Hollywood will get the message. At least we the people will save money!
I want to agree with all these comments. It is true there was only one John Wayne he was truly the greatest. I think the world could do better with more like him. I will always love the DUKE.
Great move and I watch it every couple of years on DVD
I, too, am very touchy about hurting kids.
Big Jake, my favorite movie from John Wayne
A kid could do a helluva lot worse for an Idol these days...My Grand son told me the other day after we watched "The Cowboys" (mind you he is 16 yrs old) that he had two heroes in this world John Wayne and Granddad made this old Cowboy mist up some.." Saddle -Up.. we're burnin daylight!!!"
+TheLVSaddleTramp I wouldn't make it a habit calling me that, son..
Sissel has no idea
...Mister Nightlinger...you're scarin' the boys...Miss ya Duke...
TheLVSaddleTramp I’m 18 currently and grew up obsessed with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood and all these awesome movies. How I ended up this way I don’t know, but I’m glad.
Tresa Lamb I think I have.
Sounds like my Dad, God rest his soul.
My Grandfather...
my dad, around the world at age 18 fighting ROMMEL and all over the European theater,i'll never be the man he was,and I've never saw him whipped, they don't make em like that anymore,no talk, action
Brilliant Scene John Wayne At His Best That's For Sure!🤠🐴🐎🔫🏜🇺🇲
If you don't like the Duke, well your not American! That man stood for everything that's right in this country. And American Values! Like to live in the world old John wanted.
We can i still do ..and i wont change my mind about it for anyones beliefs but my own. Todays world sucks. Ya ll can mess yourselves up doing messed up shit. That's on you all. Dont cry about what happens to you all later. ...
There are no actors like John Wayne anymore to cure Hollywood!
When John Wayne died so died a part of America with him.
My father was a foreman on a cattle ranch here in central Montana. He died at the age of 83 in 2005. He looked just like John Wayne. His mannerisms... Everything. Even his voice was similar. But then again I'll bet everyone my age in America sees a little of John Wayne in their father.
My Grandfather... WW2 Vet, a huge man... A local legend in his hometown... Us Grandkids always called him Johnwayne...(one word, lol) A marvelous man with a big heart...
My Dad worked 40 years as a lineman. Same voice, mannerisms, even his smile...the Duke reminds me of my Dad...
This is so true. My Dad, WWII Marine veteran then 26 year’s in the FBI. They don’t make them like John Wayne, our Fathers or Gand Fathers any more. It’s a damn shame. We really need all the John Wayne’s these days.😢
@@lonmcq7317 Dont you know it. 👍👍👍
"Got any last words, Scotsman?" Haven't tried saying that to anyone in Glasgow, yet. Not sure I wil...
Don't act tough, mister, you won't win. In fact the minute he rode down that hill you were outsmarted and lucky to be alive. As long as Patriots stand tall and fight for this country you will not keep us down. You get it?
CLASSIC scene. CLASSIC movie. CLASS ACT: John Wayne! He is SORELY missed!
He never got his pocket knife back.
It's still in that tree south of Durango... Nobody had the guts to pull it out, lol...
Simply great
Great Western! Thank you Duke, no one will ever be able to fill your boots.
Not hardly!
This is the way I like to remember Duke...great scene, thank you!
Yes great scene but poor audio and recording from a tv screen.
LOVE the way the hangman's tone changed when he learned that this was JACOB MCCANDLES. Also LOVED the dog. Really sad to see the dog get killed at the end. Wish the script had allowed the doggie to live and accompany them home. The garbage they make in Hollywood now is nothing beside the great movies made so many years ago. Today those too vulgar to see are all action and no acting.
Dog.. Is actually-Lassie
I hated to see his Indian friend get killed, especially since they had plans to hunt elk as big as buffaloes when they were finished saving the boy, great movie
I think the leader of the group of lynchers needs a change of drawers when he heard who threw that knife.
@@JAEUFM That was Jim Davis who had quite a career as a character actor. He was also the Dad Ewing on Dallas.
" You call me Daddy again and I'll finish this fight " .
Right and wrong still exist, always has. Most of us know the difference. The only thing that has changed is whiners and elitists don't want anyone to think for themselves. There may well come a time when we'll have to choose right from wrong and do something about it, where will you stand?
In 1997 I named my son Jacob after this hero John Wayne.
PS I believe he has what it takes to move forward and upwards in this world. At 6'6" and 250lbs he is scary strong, but he doesn't lie and will stand for what he believes in.
PSS, Never hit a woman in eye sight of him, it's like the wrath of God hit them.....
Greatest movie opening... Mr. John Wayne is the best...
Willy Gonzales ... It's not the opening scene of the movie. It's the Duke's first scene in the movie.
You ever notice that the Scotsman rides off without collecting his money?
John Wayne, protector of children. And owner of badass dogs! :)
God bless John Wayne's soul.
amen and amen
john wayne loved his country his freedom and demanded his rghts as a human being i adored and respected him hell we all did
When John Wayne talks...You fucking listen.
Oh yes Sir , indeed we do .
Just who in hell do you think you are?
Jacob McCandles.
Oh, I thought you were dead.
Not hardly.
There is not movies like this because there is not actors like him.
OMG - John Wayne - the Duke - absolutely loved him 👏👏👏👏👏👏
all kids in school should be made to watch these
I agree sir...
@@thedrummermiles AND,the origional "Red Dawn" before they are allowed to gaduate High School.............
is there anothere man like the duke!!!!!!!! God love that man.
Yes, the critics will point out the John Wayne wasn't the man he portrayed on screen, but at least he wasn't afraid to take a stand. And that's what his characters were: uncompromising, tough, and unapologetic in taking a stand. Sure miss that generation. Sure do miss the Duke.
Years ago, John Wayne was interviewed by someone who said that movie critics hated John Wayne's acting and his movies. In response, Wayne said something to this effect: "I guess the only people who like my movies is THE PUBLIC." That shut up the interviewer, because the Public knew what they liked. They didn't need critics to tell them.
Lmfao he was more tougher in real life. Castro put a hit on him. He dealt with that. And vet's honour him. Til Valhal.
We do need more movies like this but there's not too many that can pull off movies like The Duke did.
Maybe not "the best" movie the Duke ever did, but definitely my favorite. Especially as I age!
It's not my favorite John Wayne movie, but it's easily in my top ten - maybe even my top five.
Not my favorite Duke movie, but one of the best movie openings!
Wayne was everything he was on stage and loved Latin women and Whisky as well as occasional stage show duets with Dean Martin and alike.
+amazingly so , He was Loyal to his Friends to the Bone ! Just in the fact that he wanted the story of the Alamo told so bad during that time frame in this country's history. He gambled EVERYTHING he owed EVERYTHING he had on that one movie and it eventually started paying off. Every AMERICAN should own it and BUY it for their family. This Man loved American so much, I'm glad he isn't here to see the sad state we are in NOW !
any one else would have been ridiculous in the roles he played, when he said I'll hunt you down and kill ya, you believed it.
Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck did a series of really good westerns a couple of decades ago. Although they are up there in years I'd like to see them do a few more while they are still around.
Many of the old ways, were the best ways. I loved many of those old movies and morals.
Get em dog! Love this movie!
Of all the times I have watched this movie, I just noticed that he left his pocket knife.
that dog was my favorite character of all time.
America, in a pair of pants.
3:05 back when men could sharpen a proper knife!
Damn! That was good!
Every mother's son of ya..........Perfect.
I remember staying up late with my father and watching movies like this as well!
I saw this at the theater with my dad when it first came out.
John Wayne ,Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, James Arness, they just don't make these guys anymore. Heck most of the sissies today can't even ride a horse and they don't like guns either!!!!
John Wayne This Star Will Shine Forever.
Many years ago, when I was a freshman in college. I went to the local Burger King to get a late night whopper at about 2 AM. Bad Idea. The place was full of drunks from the fraternity houses. But I was hungry and just minded my own business.
Needless to say, this one particular fraternity guy kept giving me hell. He would verbally ridicule me and quite frankly I felt like a coward. The thing was, he had 5 other fraternity brothers with him and it was just me. I truly was scared of fighting 6 guys at one time.
Well, the guy kept ridiculing me and didn't let up. I went in sat in a booth by myself on the other side away from these men. As luck would have it, I went to get some more soda and there was this clown meeting me in the middle of the lounge. He had now progressed to telling me he was going to kick my ass and he would look over at his friends when he said this. Displaying to me he was going to get help.
What happened next can only be fully appreciated by true John Wayne fans. I looked at him straight in the eyes and told him this, " No matter what happens here, I am going to hurt you and I am going to hurt you badly. Your friends mean nothing to me. But I am going to hurt you."
He walked off and didn't bother me again.
That kind have no courage, outside of the mob. Good for you!
Bill Tidy Props, sir!
Bill Tidy Dr
Excellent! Good for you!
Against the goat-rappers that will not work. But there are many who are looking into methods which will work and use them, when the NBC war gets started for real.
God we could you John Wayne now
"We lost a legend and haven't seen one since.." John Wayne.., the "Duke".
Michael O'Brien They will come again, I assure you.
Never again will we see the likes of Duke Wayne...
take a look in 1600 penn ave.

Go and watch Oprah son.
"Do you think we need more movies like this today?" Couldn't hurt...
No we need more real men like him today. Not the 29 genders of bs
Yea we need people like this today
Americans of today couldn’t handle George Washington, much less the Duke!
@@am6066 speak for yourself pilgrim
Absolutely...you know you're a badass when you can end a fight with just your name.
John Wayne had class. Every mothers son of ya. could be short for something else. think about it.
All me and my kids watch this because it how I was raised truth and your words all a man's got if your word ant no good u ant no good
We need more of these men!
Unforgettable John Wayne...We all miss you so much, Duke, after more than four decades since you left us. You've been loved in Italy too, and I have the honor to watch your movies in original from time to time
The Duke, a Real American!
Poor Sheep farmer never got his 100 now
Wonder what the "woke" version of that scene would be if filmed today's America !!
I love this beginning. It is Wayne at his best! He would have made a great President and boy do we need one.
From the UK , is your comment still good . You have " Dribbling Joe " now.
The Duke was king
I would be pleased to be that guy.
"Dog" is amazing. Me and my dad would laugh our asses off at that mangy dog biting bad guys in the ass.
Best heroic entrance ever. There, I said it and I mean it.
There ya go!
I miss movies like this. Can't decide if this or The Cowboys is my favorite John Wayne movie. Thanks for posting, nothing like getting a little John Wayne fix in the middle of the work day.
Hondo and Red River are my favorites.
Most threatening lines ever
I love how the guy's entire demeanor changed when he found out who he was.
He lost his knife. Not a bad price. Later on he will probably pay the $100.
I grew up watching The Duke, and especially loved the westerns. He set the bar high.
hi courtney, what is your fav John Wayne movies, for me, i have a few...
The Searchers, Big Jake, Rio Bravo, Red River, and Stagecoach to name a few.....
Man I love this scene!!!
You can call me Father, you can call me Jacob, you can call me Jake...you can call me a dirty son of a bitch, but if you EVER call me Daddy again, I'll finish this fight!
And this is how you deal with ISIS.
Except ISIS shoot first and don't sit around waiting to talk.
Best not give them a chance to shoot first then. Apache helicopters at a 4 klick standoff, that sort of thing.
It's the same principle. Just got to know how to apply it.
we do
Well. There ya go.
DrCruel true but this is a movie not politics
I swear Jacob McCandles is like the western John Wick, the mere mention of his name will turn even the most hard nosed bad ass into a stuttering apologist. XD
Nothing like a Winchester 1873 with a saddle ring.
+18661873 (Opening Scene Gun) Sorry PILGRIM but he is using a very limited run WINCHESTER 14" 1892 44-40 Saddle Ring Carbine that if owned nowadays you must have a letter from the ATF showing ownership papers due to the factory 14" barrel and antique status. These were made before the 16" Law on RIFLES was established by our government. These CARBINES are very RARE and are worth BIG $$$$ to WINCHESTER Collectors !
+Rick123691
I stand corrected.
It was a '92, not a '73. He used that shortened rifle/carbine in nearly all of his westerns including the first one, Stagecoach.
94 is better
mike85364 ... 94 isn't really comparable to 92. Rifle cartridges vs. pistol cartridges. For speed of repeating, 92 beats 94 by a mile. For range, 94 outshines 92. The vast majority of lever guns in Westerns have been and still are 92s in .44-40 because they fire the 5-in-1 blanks. The Yellowboy 66 and the 73 also handle the Hollywood blanks, but they aren't as robust as the 92, especially if they are going to be dropped or thrown. Of the few lever guns I've owned, my favorite is a Japanese Winchester 1886 in .45-70 Gov't. It has the design made famous by John Browning, styling that harkens back to the turn of the century and the modern steel strength to handle extremely potent hand loads. If I feel like fantasizing about the old West when I take it out to heat up some big brass, I can think about John Kloehr vs. the Daltons.
Big Jacob McCandles vs Jock Ewing, could have been one hell of a fight.
You're welcome! I remembered this scene from when I saw the movie as a teen and thought it was so cool. Like I said in the description if we don't spend money on junky movies maybe they will bring back good ones if not at least we'll save money!
"No. You got me scared." Good line.
I HAVE USED THAT VERY LINE AND IT WORKS TOO.
I am Dutch, but John Wayne was a great guy and actor!! He tried to give the American people some lesson how to live proper and decent!! Sory but it hasn,t work out yet!! That counts for the Dutch also!!

I am also a fan of
the Duke, and an American and a woman. And I take no offense to your
words, cause your right. They don't make em like him anymore. Duke
was the original anarchist. Whether he knows it or not. He believed
a man knew what was right and wrong and shouldn't have to be told,
but he also knew that from time to time, a man is gonna have to help
someone remember their manners. I have always wanted to marry a man
like the Duke, plenty of people thought they knew what he was about,
plenty were very very wrong. They only saw the tough side, but John
had a soft side to him too, a warm side. He would much rather sit by
a fire and feel the warmth of his family then the cold of the plains.
The things he knew and understood he knew and understood to survive,
not because he enjoyed them. That was what people always
misunderstood about him. They thought he enjoyed playing the kind of
games you have to play to survive, he didn't. He just knew there was
no gett'n away from them, so you better learn how to play em good.
I
In response to your observation, if the U.S. could get rid of democrats and socialists, there would be more John Wayne's in the U.S.
utubetommy
You are wrong. If there were more like John Wayne, THEY would get rid of the Democrats and socialists. Sadly, his kind are no longer allowed to thrive in this world.
I'm not scared to say it, when I saw this movie I was early teens and could not wrap my head around that statement, took a while for me to understand.
Which statement ?
He was the best ever.
Best part of the movie but he stiffed the sheep hearder the $100. and lost a good knife!
JOCK EWING
"Aw what'd he have to go and do that for?"
We could use John Wayne in Commiewood I mean Hollywood now to clean it up.
Jim. Davis. was. no. match. for the. Duke.
Only the Duke could best Jock Ewing!
Jock was a joke he never even come close to john wayne..not hardly
I went to the movies in the family car to watch this show....way back when!
Enjoyed when he explained to his sons that the bad guys shot up the ranch, killed workers and kidnapped a child - "We're not paying them for this!" The country could use a guy like that right now.
Well they tried to get him to run for President. He told them he couldn't take the pay cut.
John Wayne, Bernard Fox and Jim Davis!
"Aw, now what'd he have to go and do THAT for?"
Love this movie. Just who in the h do u think u r? Jacob McCandles. Why Mr. McCandles,I thought you were dead. Not hardly. Love that!
So I understand that cattlemen and shepherds conflicts were based on competing for the same grazing land, but where do those guys think the wool for their clothing came from, or those warm blankets that kept the chill away on those long cattle drives.

One of my favorite scenes ! Dog !! Come on dog !! You do it !!
The actor Jim Davis in the black hat played jock Ewing in Dallas back in the 80's Jr "Larry hangman "Ewing's dad!.🐕🤠🌹✊🕊️🙏🇬🇧💎😎👍
he was in a lot of westerns...I really like him ! very " Wayne Like".........cool
John Wayne in anything awesome 💜😎
In 1976 John Wayne came to town, & the "whole" town turned out for it. People still talk about it. My favorite John Wayne movie's are Big Jake, The Quiet Man & Angel & the Badman ( in black & white ) The best guy he ever knew was Maureen O'hara, they were the best of friends, she even went to Washington DC on his behalf. The quote was "John Wayne American" He was 1 of a kind & their will never be another.
One of my all time favorite Duke movies! On he could get away with having a dog named "dog"
What kind of switchblade did he use?
