John Wayne was much more of a subtle actor than most realize. If you really don't know his work, you think he's a one note song, but it's not true. Sometimes his face will change 3 times before he even speaks. One of his funniest lines from (I think) War Wagon with Ann Margaret he says "Baby sister, I have a saddle that's older than you!"...with that look. Reading thru the comments I thank you all for leaving Duke's political views out of it. He was an actor and had a right to his views, whether we agree with them or not. RIP Jake....

Richard Boone knew he was dying when he made this film. Cancer took him about two years later. “Big Jake” was the last movie Richard Boone ever did and he went out superbly. Wayne and O’Hara played off of each other so well in this movie! It is as wonderful a film as “The Quiet Man” when both of them are on the screen.

I remember reading somewhere, years ago, that the dog was one of the dogs to portray Lassie. It's fur was colored to look darker because the Lassie people didn't want to ruin the image of Lassie as a wholesome, friendly dog.
I've wondered if the dog that was Wayne's sidekick in the movie Hondo was also an acting dog from the Lassie line.

They're still capable of making good movies, Oppenheimer proved that, but they sure don't make 'em like this any more.
