I just love this guy .. i forget how much of a pain in the ass my car is to work on and after watching one video i just feel motivated to work on my ep82
This is so chill I like this style. It's almost like those speed builds of motors where they fully rebuild it from the ground up, except your just taking it apart
Glad you are posting this on YT, lots of projects like this (I've experienced it with a 1987 Mitsubishi Starion) take way longer than they should have or completely fall through, not because of how much work needs to be done, but because of motivation. I'm sure your subs and others watching will give you more than enough motivation for you to get where you want on this. Congratulations on starting to save a cool car from rotting away, I wish you run into as little trouble as possible on your restoration.
It's been a while since I've wrenched on older cars but your content makes me crave reliving those moments. It's extremely satisfying, and frustrating, keeping these forgotten classics running. Thank you for your continued efforts 👍
Haha! That’s some serious knock... Wish I had a project like this to wrench on. So hard to come by these cars where I live. Good luck with the rebuild; I will be keeping an eye out for the new videos!
Great video loved seeing the teardown process, it will definitely help me when I tear down mine. Wow, genuinely curious as to how the cams got that way? Sitting outside with the oil cap removed or something? Keep up the great content!
You'd think a quick sand blast might save the head but the cams would need to be replaces, probable with stainless steel or aluminium ones, cast iron is a little risky for cars now
Gotta get some Manon Racing Products parts for that 4age build it insane. They sure know their A series engines. Looking forward to this build and an update on the FX16
Holy crap that's the grossest engine internals I have ever seen! XD A commentary at some point would have been nice(even just a little clip afterwards to tell us your findings)...caus some of us are not always sure what were looking at(except a butt load of rust in this case :p). The annotations were cool(telling us when you did something out of the ordinary). As always thanks for the amazing content! Stay awesome =)
Is it possible to get those parts sand blasted or washed and make use of them again? Probably won’t be as precisely machined obviously but maybe to someone who just needs it for a spare or to get their project running?
I was gonna guess it had the cam covers off. I tore down a v4 wisconsin engine that had its rods bent at 90's from water freezing and pushing the pistons down over the years. Crankcase was still nearly rust free despite having the whole top end basically filled with water and ports filled with rust flakes.
Pull the pan. Rod has a lot of play: "Right, right, ok, ok . . ." Valve cover comes off. The rust on those cams: "Haha!!!" Cant wait to see you make it all right!
Literally have two motors in the garage right now with the same problem from the same person Nero ka24de’s Bad oil changes routine for that customer You can’t go 10000 miles on a oil change I sid And Thay didint listen
I try to aim for 3000-5000 miles depending on the quality/state of the oil, when I check it. Sometimes it can get really thin early on in it's life, compared to what it should be at.
Some of the synthetics claim longer miles. synthetic usually looks pretty fresh and still the right viscosity when I change my oil so I dont see why it couldn't go around 10k, if you arent beating on it its probably fine. but if you care about your engine and you want it to be nice to you you change the oil often
I’m 2500-3000 no matter what car and I only run Valvoline 10w-30 and a fresh filter filled with oil I dog the shit out of my car every day the little thing let me dog it reliably
Don't ever tell a navy person that No amount of Duct Tape can't fix something. They'd try to prove you wrong. Know for a fact they use it on the planes. But it looks like your are having fun w/ that engine.
Riley ,I know this is not the right place to message you. But I bought one of your slaps recently are you still messing with that. Your sites still up.
Oh and some Rav4 had beams engine too. Caldina too? I can’t remember off the top of my head. A lot of Toyota’s had “beams” engines, different spec though.
Great video , I just rescued an impreza bug-eye from a field in rural Ireland for the princely sum of 200 Euros , just cosmetic work needed thank God . It's great to get a new toy to work on 😀😀😀
I just love this guy .. i forget how much of a pain in the ass my car is to work on and after watching one video i just feel motivated to work on my ep82
Dude love the chill vibe the whole video
Little bilzyd right now tbh
Nothing better than watching someone else work on their cars. Makes me motivated to think about fixing mine.
Darth Volvo do you own the 940 in your picture? I own an 850 R and I’m currently restoring it
Charles Conto Yes, I own the 740 in the picture plus a 76 Volvo 264 that I am slowly trying to fix. It was sitting in a barn for the last 33 years.
The Autopsy.
You again
Hi!

Can always count on riley for straight bangers!! Content and music sheeeesh

So glad i found this channel. Just clean builds, chill music. Your living the dream man.
Haha! That’s some serious knock... Wish I had a project like this to wrench on. So hard to come by these cars where I live. Good luck with the rebuild; I will be keeping an eye out for the new videos!
Wtf happened to your cams omg
cast iron + no oil for decades lol
Lavos 1999 I know lol but damb you’d think the valve covers were off
got that rust mod for extra lift and duration ;)
it looked a little corroded around the intake too maybe the headgasket was bad before it got retired for rodknock
They made cams out of cast iron????
Your channel is gonna go far man keep it up.
Great video loved seeing the teardown process, it will definitely help me when I tear down mine. Wow, genuinely curious as to how the cams got that way? Sitting outside with the oil cap removed or something? Keep up the great content!
Really enjoyed this style of vid, but that poor engine sheesh. All new bits or can any of the internals be saved?
You'd think a quick sand blast might save the head but the cams would need to be replaces, probable with stainless steel or aluminium ones, cast iron is a little risky for cars now
Man keep it up I really appreciate the videos!
I like your music playlist, had to save it for some of my videos.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who removes bolts in a star pattern too lol
The LoFi taste in artist, its like we listen to the same shit haha, keep it up man loving the content as always, congrats again on everything lately.
Brian Urias same here
Your garage is freaking awesome. A lift and a home made paint booth and you can do anything in that place.
These videos are so relaxing.
Stoked on this project
Gotta get some Manon Racing Products parts for that 4age build it insane. They sure know their A series engines. Looking forward to this build and an update on the FX16
sHOUT OUT to NZ
The music and the editing in this video are perfect
Holy crap that's the grossest engine internals I have ever seen! XD

My car caught on fire and watching this after I put it out was prolly the best decision of my life. It's so relaxing
:) I see you got your self a new project. Well good luck on it
Is it possible to get those parts sand blasted or washed and make use of them again? Probably won’t be as precisely machined obviously but maybe to someone who just needs it for a spare or to get their project running?
What can you save from the engine? It needs cams and stuff but is the crank any good? The block?
Damn, wish it was longer
Keep up the good work bro 🍾
You are the lofi car builder
Tears were coming down during this tear-down :(
Just love your videos man. Not much more to say
Aye what camera do you use to film?
This is the most relaxing video I’ve ever watched
at least the cams look fine
You drove the car with the cams like that?
This is how old BYB videos were. Gotta love the chill music with engine break downs.
But man do I feel sorry for that poor 4AG. :'(
Great video, I think those cams might need a little bit of polishing. XD
*Or a whole blacktop engine ;)*
Loving the chill video but holy crap those cams made my heart hurt. xD
What’s that fitting on the oil pan for?
Did you find this car in a lake??? why so much moisture in the engine???
Is it normal to have so much rust in an engine which normally should be coated with oil ?
11:20 “just some surface rust, rub it off with steel wool and it’ll be fine”
That engine has been setting idle for quite some time, or out int the weather, Rusty !
What's your plan if you fixed it
Ahh, nothing quite as relaxing as disassembling an engine. Those camshafts are actual nightmare fuel though...
So fucking chill to watch. I love it.
its fine impact everything on and send it
Pinch welds that can support the car! Wish mine had that. How does an engine get that rusty inside?
Old oil. Check out Scott's repair on the Audi CQ on Hoonigans. Gas gets REALLY funk after a while, too.
I was gonna guess it had the cam covers off. I tore down a v4 wisconsin engine that had its rods bent at 90's from water freezing and pushing the pistons down over the years. Crankcase was still nearly rust free despite having the whole top end basically filled with water and ports filled with rust flakes.
Beautiful video
The music in this video got me high.
I've never seen a motor come out of a car that dry in side
Pull the pan. Rod has a lot of play: "Right, right, ok, ok . . ." Valve cover comes off. The rust on those cams: "Haha!!!"
Cant wait to see you make it all right!
Remember us when you get a million subs
Little bit of quick start ether she would have fired right up
Literally have two motors in the garage right now with the same problem from the same person
Nero ka24de’s

I stick to 7000. At the end of the day, it's not a special car and it will be sold in 4 years anyway
This was wonderful.
are you going to dig into rust repair or just let it rot and have fun with it while you can?
I sense a fully built all motor 4age build for the 86!!
Cams and crank should clean up no problems with a little wire wool. 😋
Don't ever tell a navy person that No amount of Duct Tape can't fix something. They'd try to prove you wrong. Know for a fact they use it on the planes. But it looks like your are having fun w/ that engine.
>Spun rod bearings come out
"Huh, this might not be too difficult to fix"
>Removes cam covers
"Oh man..."
Not watching yet but I am hype for the video.
Don’t comment much but wanted you to know I enjoy your content. Can’t even critique
is that an e100 corolla in the background at 2:16?
No an ae101 the ae100 came out in 1989 to 1991
I wish I had ae86
Show us your bike fam
Dude you should build another 4A and make another one of these type of vids
Fuck, I didn't expect the cams. Working like a surgeon, though...like...Dr. Strange one might say. 😂
And so begins the rebirth of the Hachi Roku that once dominated the Washington state
Ahhh the lofi hip hop tho!!!👍👍👍😁
Jae Illinbaus hell yeah and chilled cow
You should do a build off vs more skids Carolla
Riley would have 5 all motor cars build and sold before those guys were done jacking around with the fenders on the first car ...
I wonder when you're just gonna move to Japan and go full Noriyaro
Shit, now i gotta return the duct tape
0:46 strong pinch welds.
Don't jack your car up right there or put jack stands at there
What ever happened to this man why he is not making any content, we his OG's need to know
yes
Riley ,I know this is not the right place to message you. But I bought one of your slaps recently are you still messing with that. Your sites still up.
chill rap beats to rip apart a 4age to
Does a beams come in any of these cars from the factory? If not what cars do they come in
Haley Jones Mr2s, Celicas and I think they came in altezzas. I'm not a 100% sure but I think so.
Japple yep the 3sge and 1gfe beams came in Altezza/200
Oh and some Rav4 had beams engine too. Caldina too? I can’t remember off the top of my head. A lot of Toyota’s had “beams” engines, different spec though.
Of course,it’s worth noting that here in Nz we have a lot of Japanese spec vehicles. So may not be applicable to your region
Some Kiwi I love how 90's the beams engine cover looks
Why this guy getting dislikes?? doesn't make sense
Aye Tocino lmao he likes to trigger haggard fan boys on there vids
Really? What does he say that makes them mad?
Cayne haha probably cause he too organized
Great video , I just rescued an impreza bug-eye from a field in rural Ireland for the princely sum of 200 Euros , just cosmetic work needed thank God . It's great to get a new toy to work on 😀😀😀
bren 70sss damn that's cool I'm about to get a 1985 ae85 for free from my uncle becuz my cousin abandoned it and it's a shell
David frieburger in the background 😎😎😎😎
Label everything and soak it in vinegar for a couple of days. If your lucky all you might need to change is bearings.
Holy shit those cams lol.
if u aint gonna rebuild that thing just swap a 20v blacktop 4age
I see you also got fooled into buying the 3 ton jack instead of the longer 2 ton jack :)
One crusty fuckin' buster.
You can have any drink you want
Allways on nr.3 .....
*lofi hachi roku*
That engine it toast, a waist of time tearing it down.
DONT LIFT AN AE86 BY THE PINCH WELDS PLLLEEEEAAAASSSEEEEEE
Notification squad 🙌🏼
Do a 7age on carbs
finally
Out comes 4age in goes 2zz?
chi no he's rebuilding it with OEM plus 4age parts
3SGE Better swap than 2ZZ.
Drake yup
Drake Yeah but he's already done a beams
I'm just saying it swaping a 3SGE into an AE86 is a better decision than a 2ZZ.
Thats one crusty rod
