I'll confirm oil leaks but i ran thicker oil n did the front seals n its clean now. It IS 20+ years old. Hell of a V8 tho, 7k revs all damn day like nothing.
One word: Quality. Will look like new with some degreaser. Definitely looked like spark plug tube seals were bad. And definitely do the starter in case.
@Jeff Lee no matter quality of engine. Probably the previous owner of this Lexus barely changed oil each 20,000 miles. Don't mind your mustang would look better with such maintenance, this is the point.
@Jeff Lee I couldn't help but laugh when I read your comments. You don't even know why the engine here was leaking? Its seals/gaskets were not changed when needed. If your Mustang's engine was let go for several years with bad seals and gaskets it would be similarly filthy... I'm seeing hints of really unintelligent suggestions of nationalism from you. Do you really think your engine could outlast a 1UZ?
I used to drive 1997 Lexus ES300 I was a 2 Nd owner driven from 200,000 miles to approx. $460,000 miles. Almost 20 years I had that Lexus as my 2nd. car! The day I got rid of it was the day I bought my new Hybrid, the Lexus s still running perfect! The Toyotas and the LEXUSES are all hard working, very Amazing cars! 💕💕💕
This was relaxing to watch, which is strange when I'm watching a bloke get covered in coolant, grease and blood. Stoked to see your content more frequently my dude 🤘
That motor had so much oil in places it had no business being that it would easily pass itself off as a pre-80's British motor! Also, your choice of soundtrack is exquisite. Thank you for your post.
Nice! I always wanted to see the intake manifold setup and how much it can be opened up and ported. Cam shaft lobe got you! Those bad boys can be razor sharp. Those are meaty sleeves in there too. Be worth bumping it up .040 for a bit more umph! But machine work and new pistons are costly. Overall great job Riley. I too love tearing motors down to see what it's all about.
Fun disassembly, everything looks good internally. You've got a solid foundation should you want to push the envelope with that motor. If not, it'll be a trustworthy steed for another 150k with a refresh. Ran synthetic the entire life of my 2JZ and it was bronzed just like the head was with yours.. your brother.. or whoever it was you got it from clearly took care of it.
That's still got to be one of if not the best V8 ever built, even all these years later. I'm considering getting either an LS400 or an SC400 and doing a manual swap and build on it, hell I may get both.
Very nice video new to your channel. I am a subscriber. What a motor unbelievable I have the SC300 I thought that was a great motor. After reading about this motor I am in shock. It is a Picaso of engineering marvel. Unbelievable how so far advanced they are over American engine builders. I never seen a stock motor so engineered not an inch of dead space. Mind blowing.
What was that first song? Cool to see the build quality from the Old Mercedes of Japan... those square inlets are intriguing Engines are so cool, it's like surgery with none of the blood weirdness lol, until the red coolant came out! Definitely drain the block ahaha
Not really, the entire intake manifold can come out in 1 piece. Doesnt have to be split in 2 like this video. Did one myself, took about 5 hours with a lot of cleaning along the way
Boostedboiz and Backyard Built posted a new video when I wanted to go on my morning run... I still have to go to my morning run, but I have to be really fast. :D
HAHA Power steering fluid in the intake, typical toyota! thats alot tho. Toy/ lexus used a mech vacuum idle up valve on the power steering pumps that fail/ crack and pull vacuum/ power steering fluid in through the intake track. love the 1uz!
yeah mine has almost 400,000 still runs like new and love how you didnt drain any fluids before taking apart lol probably still ran fine you just are miss informed think its almost 300 thousand so its not got long left but these are the million mile lexus my dude
I know this is very late but I think they're equally reliable and durable if unmodified. I would use a pre October '94 motor for supercharging but guys report that with low pressure boost the later motors are fine too. One is technically stronger than the other but they're both still extremely strong Toyota motors from the Golden Age of over engineering.
How are people able to memorize engines? It's so mind boggling to me. Like how many times do you have to take it apart and put itt back together in order to memorize it? amazing!
MusicBro94 it’s not as difficult as you think once you start to understand what makes different kinds of engines different from one another internally, after that you start remember almost every detail you can about stuff you are truly interested in.
You are right I was thinking the same thing. I never saw a motor with that much stuff attached to it. It is an amazing work of art. Way more advanced than ANY American engine.
this engine failed due to blow by. its the main reason for all the oil in the top of the engine and some of the carbon buildup in the intake ports going to the cylinders and beyond. early in the video you see some replaced breather hose thats collapsed partially from whats exposed. its on the valve cover before he takes it off. im willing to bet thats a big chunk of why it decided to start pressurizing the crank case. and eventually lead to the failure. ive seen that cause big failures so many times over the years and its a shame.
mine is leaking from who knows where. owner told me to look into it but that was all that was wrong with mine, well serviced and kept but was repainted and lost its two tone, still looks great tho. its coming from the front of the engine most definitely and drips down the fan to the cs, to oil pan then spews it all out from underneath. ive been trying to research and looked countless times even cleaning it over and over to better indicate where its coming from, but idk lol. havent had much issues at all with the car other than a fan switch going out.
My machine shop has a pretty lady working there too, and she's super knowledgeable. Place looks almost sketchy like in dude's backyard but they're super on top of shit lol
one day ima take apart my 3uZ and ima b just like u w the vaporwave on the noise cancellin headhphones just night after night taking the engine apart cleaning it replacing the gasketss and shit
the 1 uz has an automatic rust inhibitor feature, just leak all the oil all over the chassis so it wont rust ;)
This is true, VVT-I 1UZ motors leak from the factory.
How are you so triggered?🤣🤣 your mustang i gay aas fuck too 💯🤷♂️
I'll confirm oil leaks but i ran thicker oil n did the front seals n its clean now. It IS 20+ years old. Hell of a V8 tho, 7k revs all damn day like nothing.
@@SharpieEasternn my shit dont leak. Not a drop.
Sharpie Eastern if it ain’t leaking there’s no oil in it
Here’s to another 240k after the refresh 🍻
I cannot deal with all the content u are creating lately... It's just too good. My standards are getting too high for the rest of UA-cam.
One word: Quality. Will look like new with some degreaser. Definitely looked like spark plug tube seals were bad. And definitely do the starter in case.
200 IQ starter placement by toyota :)
@@WyGuyyy But, on the bright side, when it does go it usually needs new manifold gaskets anyway.
@Jeff Lee no matter quality of engine. Probably the previous owner of this Lexus barely changed oil each 20,000 miles. Don't mind your mustang would look better with such maintenance, this is the point.
@Jeff Lee another idiot thinking his anecdotes are the only outcome

What a unique style of video, the music is so relaxing. Thanks for sharing.
Omg I'm cleaning my vegetable garden right now and cant watch this yet. I really cant wait to see what it looks like.

Dude, this was so relaxing. Loved the music.
You should be depressed, search Everywhere at the end of the world
Such a soothing video. Cant wait for the next one!
Just what I needed
Thanks

great video, love the music and visuals
These types of videos just make me love this channel so much, im surprised that other youtubers don’t use this style!

Holy shit. I actually fell asleep watching this. It was the best falling asleep I ever got because of all that quality content.
nice looks good be blessed sir thank you love to see the 2urfe
You coulda filled a pool with the amount of fluid that came out of that thing! Give it to DJ, he’ll put it in the 240.
thats too much powah baby for dj
Loved this, thank you.
you planning to do any engine mods or just stock rebuild?

Great video! The music was fantastic also! Where do you find that sort of music, I'd love to start listening to more classic music like it.
This is work from the caretaker, it's a project about dementia and it's effects on memory
Great work bro
I have a big day tomorrow and I'm definitely going to fall asleep to this tonight. Big thank
excellent footage; liked and subbed
That was very satisfying to watch. The classical music went very well with it. You forgot the eight six walk around tho :(
Musta been swell designing cars in Japan in the 90s

Say what you want about these engines being slow, but they are so well built and strong.

*stares at starter motor location in disgust*.
Those piston domes look like 1az/2azfe time for me to do research on 1us dome height :D. Loved the vid
The music here is something else.
Great video man. Do you live anywhere near Kansas?
Moe The Driver Washington state
Curious how much you spend on rebuilding it
unf that money shot at the end
Excellent video....but it made me fall asleep....at work....again.
5:02 those motor mounts almost look like the 89-92 7mgte mounts but lower?
That starter placement seems like a PITA to do if it goes out
Not really, the entire intake manifold can come out in 1 piece. Doesnt have to be split in 2 like this video. Did one myself, took about 5 hours with a lot of cleaning along the way
I’m looking at an sc400 soon with this motor in it what are somethings to look for or I should start replacing when I get this car?
Oh my... that's a lot of oil in the intake
Bioshock vibes from the music
What are you gonna do about the yellow Celica?
9:08 If I'm pulling heads usually the block already took care of that for me :)
Soothing
Foes anyone know what the part is that connected the the thermostat housing
How long did it take u to do this rebuild??
@ 0:42 was that a home made alternator shield?
I have a 260k mile VQ out of my G if you want it lol needs heads resurfaced and new head gaskets
hell yeah
What were the songs?? Thank you

So many parts jesus
Timing belt too
In portent about Carm shafts settings
it actually doesn’t look that bad tbh..
this was not a cylinderhead issue - but crap oring in oil pump - this is common in every toyota 1900-2005
Cinematic engine disassembly before and after shot @ 10:20
This isn't the ls400 lexus 1989-1994 is it?
Dude is the Lexus plz
Some non vvti rods and boost. And your set 😂

songs?
Now I know what to expect if I ever tear my engine apart
Music ??
nice
Mate i think thats one of the later 2 or 3uz engines
Great engine :D I own one :) Greetings from Poland :)

dawg where do you find your music lol
The Caretaker's empty bliss something something, I forgot.
He's got a playlist on his channel with some of the music he uses I think

Ended up being oil pump and driver side cam seal, still don’t know the reason as to why oil is in intake manifold
@@VietyF oil is in the manifold because the pcv system allowed air into the intake that leaked through that leaking seal. acting like blowby
lol the caretakers af

Fuck that music got me all hot an bothered definitely alot going on with these motors
