Thanks for the positive comments. Yes it's a year since I bought the BR-60 and I still love playing the guitar. It's had absolutely no issues and I'm thinking it might be cool to do another video as a follow up. Let's see if I can get it done in the next week or two. Happy picking!
Very comprehensive review! I've had a Blueridge BG-40 for nine years. It was the first guitar my parents bought me, and although I've played more expensive ones, I'd never call them "better". A real keeper for sure :D
Now I want one. Great video, plus a lesson in playing all in one. Thank you.
Well done, have Blueridge in my sights, thanks.
Interesting guitar and great playing.. thanks for sharing
Derek thank you for the great review. I have been seriously thinking about a Blueridge ! I have seen omre and more players playing them at Bluegrass festivals etc. that used to play Martins !
You're welcome. I'm still exceedingly happy with mine!
It's so when they get drunk at the festival and fall on the guitar they broke a Chinese guitar and not an American one, so they dont feel so bad. Also new Martins aren't as good as old ones.
I have the smaller BR43 because I can wrap my hand around the neck better and hold the guitar better because of its size. I do have some arthritis in that hand and this size plays easier. But sound, I would say is very close to a BR60. I have a friend that has a BR60 and I played it and decided I wanted a Blueridge. Great video.
I got a older br60 I love it you play good
Nice Guitar ! Good playing too !!
Very good sounding guitar! I have a br-160 that is more powerful than either of my Martins, Blueridge definitely building some fine instruments.
Thanks Randy. I am subscribed to your channel. Respect!
great!
Great review! How are you still getting on with your Blueridge after a year? Any issues with the bought deflecting or raising up, bridge lift issues? I'm interested in picking one of these up. Also, is that a Shubb capo you are using there? It sounds fantastic and you were spot on there with The Boxer. Also, I noticed that you formed your A chord the same as James Taylor... in order to get that powerful hammer on using the index or ring finger. Thanks!
I was in Guitar Center quite some time back and one of the techs, who do some of their work out in the open, were working on a Blueridge guitar. It caught my attention because I noticed that it had that "cannon" of a sound that you'd normally get from a D-28/35. VERY full tone too. I wished I had gone and asked which model it was. I don't know that it was too old, but the top had definitely tanned... more so than my 34 year old Yamaha.
The br 60 is a great guitar! I own one and have always been really happy with it. I had owned a br160 and I sold it so I could buy the 60, because it sounded that much better than the 160. And yes even tho the 160 was all solid, the 60 is a better sounding guitar. It has more bass and is not jangley like the 160 can be. Great review!
+Wyatt's dad Hey man! I am in the same predicament. Have a Br-70as (same as yours but with adirondack top) and not sure if I should spend 300 pounds more on an all solid Br-180a.... What are your thoughts? Its rare to hear of ppl choosing a laminate over solid... good for you!
+Scott Heng Go and try a few guitars before deciding. Every guitar has its own sound, even those of the same make and model. Your ears and hands will tell you what's right.
+Scott Heng hey Scott I can't stress enough how much better the br 60 was than the 160. It was a big difference.
I hated to get rid of the 160 because it was all solid but sometimes I'm the acoustic guitar world, things don't make sense.. I put that 160 on a tonerite for 5 days even and it lacked what I wanted.. The 60 sounded beautiful to me, my wife and friends. They could even tell the difference.
You do need to play any guitar to see what you personally like tho. I've played 4 160's and none of them sounded as good as the 60.. One sounded close but the 60 still sounded better. I don't know how that was possible but it was..
Another thing I found was to just leave the stock plastic bridge pins. Don't put in bone or anything else in these blueridge guitars. They sound too jangly with anything other than cheapo plastic pins. Good luck to you! If you have anymore questions I'm here for ya!
Awesome video !
What brand strings does it come with it stock ?
i just love my br60 since i got it i almost never play my martin d35
I love mine too. I'd play the D-35 more. I've owned 2 which were both stolen. Heartbreaking..
If you're american that can get you deported.
Don't fret mate, it sounds every bit as full as a D28, I've tried a few that I didn't enjoy but I'm enjoying this Blueridge, you play well too 😊
i know guitar sound is subjective, but do you think this guitar is better than the seagull s6 (if you've played that one)? i've narrowed it down to those 2. thanks!
I've played and own 2 Seagull guitars. They have a great sound but I do prefer the Blueridge. I also think the Blueridge is better because it is built better. Both Seagulls sustained a break at glue joint on the headstock with normal usage. I take good care of my guitars, so it wasn't through negligence. Get the Blueridge and never look back.
What s the difference beetween br 60 LE??
I have the same guitar its weird I use d addario medium gage
Nice Nice guitar!
Hi Derek, great review! I have a Br-70 as (similar to br-60 but with an adirondack top) and am thinking of changing it in for a Br-180 (full solid) ... I am thinking twice about this since you have spoken so highly about the Br-60... Would the all solid body warrant me spending 300 pounds more? Would be so helpful if you gave your input! Cheers!
How would this compare with the Blueridge BR-40?
Johnny Pena my daughter has the BR-40 and it's amazing. Powerful and punchy with a bit more midrange tones than the BR-60. It's a copy of the Martin D-18, which is a favourite of bluegrass and rock and roll players because of its power and volume. It cuts through the band better than the BR-60.
I was thinking of getting the left handed version, definitely one of the better sounding guitars I've heard under $500.
I have a BR43 and love it. Smaller but sounds great.
Both chinese junk
I have the BR 40. And mine sounds as good or better than Martin. D 18. Wouldn't trade it. For tye worid as they say. Keep your Marin your not getting my. Blue ridge,,
One question, this guitar comes with hardcase?
Diego Martínez No. I had to order the gig bag separately
Santos is not a rosewood or from the rose wood family, and it is a colloquial name for anything that looks like rosewood. Santos is also called caviuna, Pao Ferro, morado and Bolivian rosewood among others.
I own the identical guitar and I consider well made from decent materials ( the backs and sides are laminated).. It looks good , sounds good and plays well.
Thanks Jeff. Of course you are right about the Santos. A lot of publication touts it as a rosewood and I believe even the spec sheet for the BR-60 does. Probably why I called it that in this video. I only learnt about Santos about a year later.
What website did you get it from?
thomann.de in Germany
+Derek Herbst thanks!
My bad, you say it in the beginning, duh ! Lol
No worries.
Ozie? Or Kiwi?
Neither.......
South African 😎
@@DerekHerbst747 close enough. No actually inst your dialect known as "africana?" Ioften get south african and Kiwi and AU accesnts mixed up
@@IDVDalot No offence taken. If you don't hear the different accents regularly it's not easy differentiating us southern hemisphere boys..
@@DerekHerbst747 so you really cant tell eachother apart from the sound? Interesting
@@IDVDalot I meant you. (American guys). We can tell immediately
Guitar playing starts at the end of the video. 🙄
Thanks for the compliment.
7:53 your guitar is out of tune!
I've tuned it since then.. 🤣🤣
