A few weeks after this game I saw Wolves hold a very good Everton team to a goalless draw at Goodison Park. I recall Ernie Hunt and Mike Bailey gave a top display in midfield, against Alan Ball Colin Harvey and Howard Kendall who had been brought together at the start of the 1967-68 season. Everton's directors were so impressed with Ernie Hunt they signed him days later for the then huge fee of £75, 000. He had also shone in a FA Cup tie v Everton in Feb 1967. Sadly he left Everton in April 1968 for Coventry. Everton kept the player, Alan Ball, who he had been signed to replace Wolves went on the become a top side in the old First Division. And after a game at Goodison when Everton defeated Wolves 4-0 in January 1969. The Wolves and FA Chairman, John Ireland rated that Everton the best side he had seen in the post war period
