This period of Tull was just magical, the songwriting, the subjectivity and clever lyrics and wordplay is just the best. Their output from 1970 through to 1982 was amazing but 76-79 was just off the scale. Beautiful, and thanks Ian and the rest for making some memorable albums.
@@seansullivan5965 I actually love the too old to R&R album as well which isn’t mentioned much when people discuss Tulls best work. I love it especially some of the gentler folky songs on that album like from a dead beat to an old greaser and the 🏁 chequered flag. Songs from the wood just blows me away as well.
Jethro Tull. Been a fan since I first heard them back in the early 70's. Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses being my favourite albums. Seen the band at least a dozen times. Best prog rock band around. Always will be.
I think of all bands that I'm too young to have seen in their prime, Jethro Tull has to be the one I regret missing the most. Ian A. had one of the best voices of all time IMO and he sounds SO GREAT in these 70s concerts. Nobody else sounds this good live. No one comes close to sounding like they do on a record like IA. Amazing.
@@nomdeplume2724 they’re one of my favorite groups. Before I became disabled I used to clean house to Heavy Horses because of my bff and I cleaning her place to it.
Songs from the wood & Thick as a brick are among my all time favorite records. Back in the late 70's I'd listen to these over and over every day along with Cat Stevens Tea for the tillerman
excellent. That is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums, but I don't think I've ever seen it live. Of all the Tull albums "Songs from the woods" and "Heavy Horses" still remain my two favs followed by Stand Up and This was.
Songs from the Wood is my go to album when I feel down..it lifts my spirits...always has done..every track is beautiful..."Have you seen the Jack in the Green" reminding us all on gloomy winter's days that Jack will be sending Spring. Thank you Tull..loved your music most of my life..❤❤❤
They did perform Velvet Green at this show. I don't believe it's on this channel yet but is elsewhere. I first heard this live version as included in their '20 Years of Jethro Tull' box set, and then bought a DVD of this show years later. That performance of Velvet Green is my favorite rendition of any song, by anyone, ever, live or studio. It's my one desert-island song.
When I was 11 years old I heard the Cream version of Crossroads on a jukebox and my brain was rearranged to the point a year later I bought my first bass. I’m now 65 and still playing and recording and it’s all because of Jack Bruce 🤪
Uma das maiores bandas de todos os tempos e uma das minhas bandas preferidas. De 1968 a 1979 fizeram grandes discos, depois já não sei dizer porque conheço pouco.
I agree, 1979 concluded Tull's initial era. John Evan, Barriemore Barlow, and David Palmer's absence from the group, coinciding with the departure of John Glascock, meant the real Jethro Tull was no more.
This song and the entire album, has something idk but shortly after I began to learn the lyrics and revel in SFTW....I started seeing Druids etc no joke. There's something here.
ell i'm a common working man With a half of bitter -- bread and jam And if it pleases me i'll put one on you man -- When the copper fades away..........................................ripper of a line BLOODY RIPPER!!!.....ps i mean the whole bloody album is a masterpiece but that line just GETS ME everytime!! soz for commenting this here you cant comment the song ahahahah
It's hard to believe Ian Anderson was just 29 when this performance was recorded, and just shy of turning 30. For some reason, he seems to be a bit older than his age here. Maybe the demands of touring aged him a little bit.
Jaja, die "Songs From The Wood"-Tour hab' ich damals auch live miterlebt. John Glascock war ein Tier. Das war anderes Theater als das, was Anderson momentan abliefert ... :-/

Agree
I love also the first period, before 1970

Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses. . . Just wow

Ian is a wonderful singer and flutist and a marvelous frontman, my all time favorite!❤❤❤
The album that introduced me to Jethro Tull in the late 80's, and made me a life-long fan. Love this song.
Just fantastic! The best voice in Rock world, for me. And the big talent.
I saw Tull on this 77 tour, I was 17. It was one of the most memorable concerts of my life.
Me too, I was 15
My first rock concert was Tull in '75, Salt Lake City. I was 15 and It was amazing.
Me too Florida
Great, timeless song! 💚💚💚💚💚💚 Love and appreciation from Italy 🇮🇹🙋🏻♀️❗ Itullians we are! ✨🎶✨
Ian is a national treasure
Best years with Barre, Evan, Palmer, Glascock and Barlow. 💕
What a line up
That is the best line up in the history of the band in my opinion. They all added a little bit extra on to Ian’s magical talent.
That's a big 10/4!!
I just love everything Tull did.
Jethro Tull, Yes and ELP have to be the absolute BEST the 70's gave us in music 🎶 genius 🎉
Songs from the Woods was the first Jethro Tull album I ever heard and bought.
Me too💥
Having a listen right now!💥💥💥💥💥🤓

Absolutely ♥️, masterpiece, magical voice. Thanks for posting. Good time forever young.
Songs from the Wood, Heavy Horses, and Broadsword and the Beast are my favorite Tull Albums.
"Songs from the wood" and "Too old to rock and roll" are my two favourite JT albums. Both take me back to my youth.

The best band in the known universe and probably even is some of the others. The genius of Mr Anderson knows no border.
I'ved been growed up with Tull, they are the best ever

Гений, каких мало.
MY HERO. HAVE SEEN HIM 5 TIMES. EACH TIME MORE AMAZING THAN THE LAST 😅😅

That must've been so magical! I would've loved too see him live with my mother ! We would be dancing , crying, laughing, and singing

Superb - Songs from the Wood at Hammersmith Apollo was the first JT concert I experienced - have enjoyed just about every tour since. Wonderful
Neprevaziđen, neponovljiv! Pozdrav iz Vojvodine...
Would love to hear "The Whistler" and "Velvet Green" and the rest of Songs From The Wood." Fortunately, l have the album, the CD, the cassette, lol.

@kevgamble I totally get that. Such a beautiful song.
@@kevgamble Velvet Green is also my favorite song of all time and the performance of it during this show is amazing!
If I recall correctly I saw Jethro Tull in November of 1977 in New Haven, Connecticut. Later in the same year as this
Jethro Tull transcende as eras. Está no nível da música clássica, mas de uma nova geração.
RIP Uncle Ian ❤
Agree great when they were allllll together ❤

Only "Jack in the green"? It's so short. Next on SFTW is "Cup of wonder" ++ Please
They're uploading a concert. It's not the same set list of the album
Божественно!!)) Просто кайф!!))
Y parece que fue ayer cuando escuchamos por primera vez este maravilloso tema y al día de hoy, sigue tan fresco..
Amo vcs❤
Have you not listened to "Bursting Out?" Ian himself said, "they are plural, plural." In this case, he is singing about a single Jack.
Tull - Forever!!! 🤘❤

Jethro Tull are the band the mostly I associate with the imagery of Tolkien or DnD. Ian's descriptive writing style is very similar to Tolkien's style

What's not to love?
Jacks in the Greens. They are plural.
This is posted by Jethro Tull. You don't think he knows the title spelling of his own song? It's Jack-In-The-Green. Look it up if you don't believe.
I believe it ..duh:))
His timing is impeccable. What a great Artist 🎨 God Bless
