      Before prices sky rocketed, oak was going for about $6 a board foot at the local mill around here. At $6/bft, that 525 board feet would be about 3150. I know he's doing his own felling and bucking, and it's only possible with the gator, trailer, and woodland he already had, but Seth and Kevin just saved a bunch of money.

      'I did it my self' -Berm Park. Yeah they turned ~10 logs into lumber for a enough lumber to equal $2000, instead of selling to a veneer mill That would have payed $1000+ per log ($10,000). DIY costing yourself $8,000.

      Lumber prices now are at an all time LOW! Hasn't caught up yet at Retail but cannot go much lower without Mills Curtailing production or losing money

      @@kugelpanzerstudios4800 I think the argument William is making is they could have sold those logs and bought 3x the weight of wood of a different type, because of the value of that type of timber compared to what they normally use, however, if those planks they have are very weatherproof (I don't know my north american trees) they could well be worth $10,000 for their use, as they'll last for decades compared to the normal timber they used in the $600 build

      @@bgdg323 veneer mills wrong buy that super dry standing dead wood. Derp. It's too dry and won't peel well. It's too imperfect, has too much checking, has too many cracks, etc. And selling it to a veneer mil won't help them at all. Don't you love it when you try to post a snarky comment, but you get schooled by someone who actually knows what they're talking about?

    As a woodworker/furniture maker, I 100% side with you on working with the local sawmill. Always a treat to be right there with the process and take it home and turn it into something that will last for a very long time.

    Hey Seth, please be carefull felling these dead oaks. Its one of the most dangerous task in forestry felling trees that are long time dead since with just the vibration of your chainsaw and hammering wedges in to the felling cut, stems can break of and hit you being right underneath it.

      Yup a snag will kill you.many people here in new mexico have died cause of that I came close with one but I heard it crack snd got out of the way scary shit sometimes. Saftey should be #1. They should be wearing hard hat and listening and watching the trees.

    What I love about this channel is, that Seth shows the whole process, even if he broke something, or did something stupid along the way. Like bending the gator. This is one of those mistaktes that would easily happen to me, and then I'd think I'm the dumbest person on this planet for 8 weeks straight. Seth just accepts his mistake, and keeps moving forward. I find this very encouraging.

    So nostalgic every time I watch your videos, it brings me back to you in Florida from the beginning. I used to watch your videos, religiously and then I bought a 2019 specialized rock hopper full suspension and had it for a month before it got stolen and stripped from parts by a homeless person. After that, my passion for bikes was killed and now that I crashed my car and can’t get one for a couple years. I’m hopping back on the Mountain by community and I forgot how much I loved it. Thank you for putting out such amazing Contant. It is nonstop, entertainment, and so well done. I can’t thank you enough.

      @@ScottTheBot07 Price of lumber is mainly a function of supply and demand. As the economy bounces back and demand surges, prices will spike temporarily. This kind of short term price fluctuation has nothing to do with the President. Now, if you want to complain about Presidents, complain about the shortage of bicycles and parts attributable to Former Guy's stupid tariffs.

      @@Dr.Schlitz because we’re being kept in lockdown so people are doing hobbies and building stuff. That’s why, we were put into lockdown at all. If people kept working sure it’d be boring and you’d risk wuflu but we’d be free and have lower lumber prices. That is factual and not incorrect.

    Thats got to be one of the best Berm Peak videos in a while. Very interesting, nothing rushed, no carnage, just plain old Seth showing his work. This finally felt like a Seth's Bike Hacks from Fort Lauderdale or Berm Creek again. The music, the story telling, everything was perfect. Keep it up!

      Restore / resurrect one. There are millions of mountain bikes sitting around waiting to be used if you look and ask around. I have a kids trek mountain bike for sale right now. $100

      if you have a bike collective near you they have many repurposed mt bikes, and sometimes even programs to get your kid building bikes.

      Buy a used one.
      Go around multiple shops and ask.
      Prices might be a bit higher now, but there should be availability - maybe not the if you're looking for 1 specific bike, but if you're just looking for a kid mountain bike you will easily find one if you actually actively look for it
