I could listen to him say anything... He's so damn funny, brilliant, understated and adorable... I'm old enough to be his mom, but young enough to appreciate his charm!!! Fear not, oh darling Mark...I'm not an aggressive whacko...just someone who appreciates loveliness!
Thank you Chase for showing discernment around the use and misuse of psychiatric labels, assessments and checklists. It is always amazing to hear top class interviewing.... this cop was a real artist.
It is incredibly frustrating trying to understand a word that kid says. I'm so annoyed because I really wanted to know what he said after the female cop chimed in and asked why he conned them to open the bathroom door, if he didn't want any more to do with it (words to that effect). And I can't understand one. single. word. of his reply.
I got a comment saying you mentioned me over here and I'm glad my Columbo review distracted you from the failed airplane engine! lol. One less thing to worry about while flying.
You didn't mention the 2 children who survived. The first girl who was stabbed in the neck and played dead, and the baby in the crib. Thank you for this coverage because these boys were from a very strange family. Cheers, Elizabeth (from Australia).
I always think about what my dad used to say. I'd tell him I don't understand how anyone could do something like this. He'd say, "You're not supposed to. "
your dad was very wise. I think that is one of the reasons why I am interested in this content - trying to figure out 'how' and 'why' someone could do this
Asking “how many were killed at Columbine” was such a smart, brilliant question, as the answer tells us so much. Whether he knows the answer, the way he answers etc. I hope the dudes will mention it.
Good job despite the very heavy subject matter. I like how you called out the interrogator’s skillful technique, which made the show a bit more positive.
I lived very close to this home of horror at the time of the horrific attacks and murders. The older brother actually testified in his little brothers trial stating how he was the only one that acted to attempt to lessen his sentence. Fortunately, the testimony didn’t help, and they both received the punishment they deserved. Devastating case all around. The only reason they didn’t kill the infant was bc “they forgot,” but had the intention of decapitating the baby. The house has been destroyed and a memorial is in its place.
Side note: I JUST saw some Columbo episodes for the first time 💛 and now I totally understand your Columbo edits in you episodes, and that's a really nice touch! Thank you guys for another great episode.
He tells the lad that he'll be famous, people will want to interview him. The lad closes down and says he doesn't want to be interviewed about this. That felt like the first inkling of the weight of what he'd done. A few moments later, he looks down and to the side, heaving a sigh and in his own world for a moment-again, like regret. Then he pulls himself together again-trying to separate himself from what he'd been feeling in those moments. I could be wrong though?
Scott mentioned how doctors sometimes monitor their own breathing to the patient's breathing rate to try to soothe or calm them. Reminded me of the technique used by harpists who play for hospice patients or end of life music. They try to play a rhythm that matches the breathing rate of the patient to soothe & calm them. - Laura, Harpist
Also, a technique working with autistic people is to have two drums, they may start by banging hard or fast, you match their rhythm, and watch them realize you are in-sync. Then you can gradually bring the pace down to calm them. Very cool.
All of you fellows have tremendous appeal all in different ways. Never had such a hard time picking a favoirte peeps. This is a compliment for forming such an addictive you tube channel. Well done.
What these monsters did was truly evil and unimaginable. The one brother convinced their younger brother to come into the bathroom to be safe and then killed him. Sick. I know this is to show how a good investigation is done but had to throw that in there because the interrogator is amazing when you think about what these kids did and investigator doesn't just lose his shite on them.
I love when we're NOT told specifically which behavioral changes we're going to see in later videos. I enjoy hearing about each individual video (unless comparing to a previous clip pointing out the changes and shifts that are happening, of course - not what's coming up). It's more challenging for me to view each new clip without the influence of what I've been told is going to change. Love Y'All So Much!
That wouldn't surprise me, at all. A bad parent can only criticize and doesn't want to help their own children, even if it's just to get some speech therapy.
This young man has a speech issue that, considering his age at the time of this video, makes me think was neglected to be worked with properly to help him. I am not saying that justifies his choices and the awful things he and his brother perpetrated. I’m just pointing out that it’s pretty damn hard to be a teen as it is. Add a speech difference and other issues and it just compounds things socially/emotionally. What a horrible, tragic, overwhelmingly terrible case.
I have seen this type of speech pattern when as a toddler had ear tube surgeries. You are correct - isolation in an unhealthy environment & young children need to see faces & hear to develop language
Hartley is my favorite on this panel. Just so full of knowledge and calm on delivery. Someone I would go have a beer with. (I don’t drink, but a relaxed conversation over any beverage would do.)
I'd LOVE for you guys to do the police interview with Ruby Franke's husband! He's denying that he was aware of abuse on his children but after seeing the newly released video of the interview... HE KNEW!
I just heard the kids were in foster care(this seemed to be after reunification) and I wondered about why that would be--definitely would be an interesting BHP read
Mark please tell us what that decoration is on your wall. I like listening to your input but I get unnecessarily distracted trying to figure out what the heck it is! The brown caving that looks like it came from the top of a headboard from a bed set.
I actually dont see you as scary at all Greg Hartley, in fact, i think you have a beautiful spirit and an awesome smile! Having said that, you obviously have so many tactics as you speak of them, for different situations. You are amazing, have heart, but can also obviously be very confronting when need be. You are an inspiration!❤
I don't think I can drop a link in a reply, so instead, I recommend watching "We Can Make You Talk: A History of Interrogation". You will see where Greg Hartley could have that 'scary as hell' reputation. I actually didn't recognize him at first in it, so if you think you see him... it's him. He has a little bit of blonde hair.
SCOTT! Thank you for the Watch it for days info. I've watched every Columbo episode, pre-90s, 5-8 times cause, well cause it's Columbo, and never heard of her channel. I also saw your screenshot, the Columbo Tumble!
Such an odd mix in that this was such a horrific crime yet one of the absolute best, as far as what we've learned from the guys' analysis and witnessed from this amazing interrogator. It was so awesome to see the mirroring and mimicking being played out, and to see how effective it is. Thank you!!
This interrogator is great. I agree with Scott that i dont think hes aware of a lot of what hes doing . Not that he isnt skilled, but that its just intuitive for him so hes not having to think about it. Thats why it seems so natural , because it is. 👏👏👏
I've probably watched almost all of the Behavior Panel's videos and this is one of the darkest if not the darkest one I have seen. Retired teacher... Interacted with lots of at risk kids who deny accountability and lie and parents do too (sadly). If a child has been told his/her entire young life that they are bad, useless, never do anything right by parental units, it becomes part of his/her identity. Leads to a sense of futility. I see that kid will resist and disconnect from anyone saying you are a good KID. I learned overtime saying you are a good kid does not get that kid connected to you. Better to say I see you are controlled, plan ahead well, reflect on your actions to learn from them, take responsibility for your part, have been trying to tell the truth despite being here in this room with me and some of your plan has failed. If you tell the kid you seem like a good kid you are encouraging him to lie because he thinks he has got you where he wants you. You and Robert seem close. Tell us more about that. Help us understand why Robert has a different story, a lot has happened today, can you think back and tell us who you killed and how? We are going to have forensics tell us the truth. I appreciate Chase’s comment on checklists like everyone is the same. In my work people think this because they saw a UA-cam video about the products I sell. Everyone is different.
Would be cool to get the interrogator on the show. I always wonder whether they realise just how good they are or if it's just instinctual at that point.

Will you being do an analysis of Justin Beiber and Usher interview videos where they talk about PDiddy or where they are with him?
Thank you for your insights and analysis into this horrifying story. Behavioral science has always fascinated me. I am appreciative of your work. ✨
What is sentencing, chase
Prayers & Blessings to Chase & his family. Your courage is astounding, Chase. Thank you.
I could listen to Mark say “nonchalant” all day
I could listen to him say anything... He's so damn funny, brilliant, understated and adorable... I'm old enough to be his mom, but young enough to appreciate his charm!!! Fear not, oh darling Mark...I'm not an aggressive whacko...just someone who appreciates loveliness!
He is a joy to watch! Animated, articulate and brilliant.
I am with you Mark, it is very difficult to understand what the suspect is saying.
Thank you Chase for showing discernment around the use and misuse of psychiatric labels, assessments and checklists. It is always amazing to hear top class interviewing.... this cop was a real artist.

The dynamic and expertise between you four is GOLD. Super interesting so much to think about.

So good, gentlemen. I hope the investigator comes on the show.
I heard someone say once: "i may be a liar, but im not a thief." fascinating.
That was me. I said that . . . Nah, I'm lying : )
Chase, I hope your mum gets well soon. Best wishes Mrs H. ❤
Another great video. Love ya'll and much love and prayers for Chase.

Not to victim blame at all but for a kid to be this emotionally closed off says a lot about the family culture he grew up in.
That goes to the age long statement of Nature vs Nurture.
you should have both of these detectives on your show - the female we can't see is also right on the money
