I have over 500 hours in arma 3 and I can tell, you don't need a mil-sim unit to have fun. Only a couple of friends on a server or, a server of random on zeus or escape.
Thanks for the input I'm trying to decide which to put my time in. I have both games but can't decide which one I want to play and put the time in to learn. This comment helped a bit
Arma 3 is a classic. Probably the most hardcore realistic military shooter ever made. The simulation is too overwhelming for most people. We got DayZ from Arma, it’s such a masterpiece itself
In my opinion, squad is definitely better if you are new to the milsim stuff and need to get a helping hand when starting. I say, if you are planning on getting arma but not too experienced, get squad. If you are planning on getting squad but you need the full realistic milsim experience, get arma. If your planning on getting both and your new, play squad for a bit like, a couple months or so, then get arma if you still want it. If you are experienced, just get arma, unless you have money and want to get both. In short, if your new to the military genre, get squad, if you are looking for hardcore milsim, get arma.
i just got it for $6 as well and i also got the prairie fire dlc too for an extra 14 bucks. definetly has been on my list for a while too, glad to finally start getting into it
If you want realism go with Arma 3. If you want semi-realism with an arcade/battle royale feel go with Squad. Both are great games but I would give the edge to Arma 3 due to the endless amount of mods/gameplay modes, etc..
What do u mean battle royale? Jump from airplane with parachute.. tlooting weapons and items, then fight againts another squad till 1st? And get legendary skin?
Big difference: Arma has a lot of single player scenarios, including campaign missions (the most realistic i've seen) or missions mods, apart from the multiplayer. Squad has only multiplayer. Anyway, i love both games. Squad is more like a realistic Battlefield. Arma is more like its unique thing. I would recommend you begin with Squad; it can be addictive. Arma is not for everyone; but is closer to reality.
As someone who was in the military for a very long time. I will not be as a dismount. I was on tanks during my time in the military so I will be on tanks in game.
Honestly, I think Squad is the better game for its straight-forwardness but Arma is also really good. 10$ Is a really good price for it, if you're willing to take the time to learn it. Keep an eye on Squad as well! They have quite a few sales every once in a while.
Arma the ultimate sandbox with endless mods like dayz, not only that but by far has the best combined arms gameplay from a squad bike to A10 fight pilot. Arma also has extremely good pve servers that are huge in scale. Squad is better for a less clunky experience, and is by far the easiest to pick up with the added benefit of an entirely mp focus and is good aswell but arma is the ultimate sim especially if you like using vehicles
Both pros and cons you told about Arma is the reason I play it. It's, like you said, hardcore MilSim. Thats why people in general play it. NO game on earth has the feel, immersion and intensity of a battlefield like Arma. By far not. Armas scale alone is jaw dropping. The dimension of a battle this game puts on is just insanity. I also think that it looks waaaaay better than Squad. Graphics on ultra is boss. Game looks stunning. I have no idea how one can come to the conclusion that Squad is looking better than Arma. The one and only downgrade I have with Arma is its performance. But since it runs on an engine made for simulations its kinda understandable. Simulations almost always eat up your CPU like nothing :D For me its Arma. Squad is too easy. I dont like that kind of gameplay. I like big COOP operations with hundreds of units doing their thing on a battlefield that is 10km² or bigger. Haveing 100+ people playing together in COOP is just pure immersion. All the coordination that is needed, the coms, the calls, the different role everybody has to fullfill and the sheer size of missions make it for me. For me these games are not even comparable. Its two different kinds of games. Like GTA and Skyrim. Both open world but you cant compare them really.
I love this comment! You did a really good job expressing what makes Arma such a unique and one-of-a-kind game. I agree with everything you said 100%, I just prefer Squad since its a lot simpler and I don't really have the time to deal with Arma haha. I also agree that the graphics on Arma are pretty dang solid. I should've done a better job of explaining what you pointed out . Arma can look amazing but it is much more performance hungry. In my experience I can run Squad at higher graphics settings than Arma on my hardware since A3 is such a pain to run. If I had a beast of a PC I think you're right, Arma would look amazing. Thanks for your comment! Definitely gave me some stuff to think about, and a drive to put some more hours into Arma so I can really get to know all of its many ins and outs.
Squad is quite more specific on what it tries to achieve. It's full on PvP action not meant for bots, at least not as an important feature. Both games share about the same skillset on the gunplay itself aside from controls of course and customization. Btw the Arma coordination experiences are only possible if u belong to a clan/milsim group if u are talking about the true highly tactical stuff, same with squad ,there's only so much u can do with random players in public servers regardless of the game. I mean have u seen One life events in Squad from Karmakut or clan matches?
youll be done with squad in a few months,Arma3 has been in the top 50 games played for 7 years. Arma3 has far more to offer than squad,it literally has an editor where u can create ANYTHING you can imagine. This reviewer cares more about what game is "easier" to understand than which one is worth your investment. Iv been a gamer for 30 years,Arma3 hours played DWARFES all other games iv played, combined. Theres a reason for that...and i dont even touch the MP aspect of it which has tonnes to offer.Arma3 is better than squad in almost every way that actually matters
@@Popmandoop and you were too impatient to learn how to play Arma3 or added md after mod and complained about poor performance or got butthurt because a community member said something to hurt your fee fee's.
@@MsFreegaza Honestly I think Arma 3 is a great game. The modding potential is nearly unlimited and it's community has more dedication than any I've ever seen. If I were to make an "factually best" video Arma would have won, but I made this an "In my opinion" video. I think Squad is much more suited to my playstyle, and my life honestly since I don't have enough time to spend on all Arma has to offer with School, Work, and this channel. This video was made to tell people which game I perfered and I did just that. Obviously you have a different opinion, and that's fine. That's what opinions are, but there's no reason to attack or downplay others opinions just because they don't align with your own.
i really enjoy arma 3 just because of the zeus gamemode, sog praire fire, mods, and the editor i have played squad for only a couple of hours during a free weekend, for some reason i ran into some heavy performance and graphics issues (i could see grainy effect in the distance, i had resolution set to my monitor) when i did and it left a bad taste in my friends mouths i dont know why i had such issues with squad because everyone else online seems to have no issues but i never figured it out because again, free weekend
In my opinion if u want a fun tactical and friendly experience play squad but if you want to get ptsd play arma lmao Don't worry it's a joke i don't really know much about the games I've never played them but have always wanted to cause I'm a battlefield fan I like games that involve teamwork and action
I got the game, but could not configure my joystick or game controller. No button mapping options at all, just some useless sensitivity sliders. Brand new high end pc, btw. I could manage the infantry, but no way in hell I am going to try flying helicopters or jets with a frackin mouse and keyboard. Probably a buggy copy, just my luck. So screw it, refunded, move on to something else.
@@lonewolf5238 Oh gotcha, yah I havent tried using a Hotas or controller with Squad. Sucks that it didn't work out for you though! That sounds like the best way to pilot the Heli's in this game. I'm pretty sure there is button mapping, but it might not work with Joysticks, and it might not have even been there when you tried haha.
It was a glitchy mess, not just missing button mapping or JS/controller config. Game wouldn't launch at all half the time, then when it did, I'd get a blank screen with audio and subtitles when trying to run Boot Camp. Again, brand new high end pc, no problems with anything else, just this game. I think it was a corrupt download, but Steam support is essentially useless, so refund and forget about it is the only choice left.
Yah I'd say so! I'm running a 1660ti but my brother has a 1660 and a 2600 which is pretty equivalent to a 4790. It'll have to be 1080p and you'll need to tinker with the settings, but it does sound attainable!
In my opinion squad is better in graphics...that would be remaining in Arma...but squad I think it's more limited about content and creating tools as a sandbox like Arma
Uninstall and reinstall it. That did the trick for me. Make sure your connection is solid. Do the tutorial (20 minutes) then go to browse and servers near your should show up. I personally recommend elite as it’s very noob friendly.
I tried Arma III and yeah it's not exactly accessible. If I had friends pushing me to play it I might have kept it, but trying to navigate it solo was daunting... also the campaign is very boring, so even using it as a jump off was a no go.
Ill buy both someday but i think ill choose Squad first. Arma has too many DLCs and stuff to be played fully. Aparently you cnat evne drive vehicles without soem DLC i heard?
Nice video! Btw do you think sqaud can run on a gtx 1650, i5 9400f and 8gb ddr4 ram? I Will get a new pc in the future that Will be able to run it but for now this is what i have
One thing you didn't mention was that Arma is much more PvE focused than Squad. A big part of arma is doing large scale missions with unique objectives like destroying radio towers and rescuing hostages. I bought Squad but was dissapointed since all the gamemodes were variations of conquest from battlefield and felt way more arcady. I can see why people enjoy it but its just not a the kind of game I was looking for. I think comparing the two games to eachother is a little unfair to both. They have very different experiences
Arma 3 > Squad Squads engine doesn’t feel true to scale if that makes sense. I genuinely feel like arma has better graphics. Squad has better visual effects but depth and how natural the controls feel goes to arma for sure.
I have been playing arma3 for 700hours without any milsim, casual CTI is already fun enough. Also no one will imagine that you can also turn arma into hero shooter with some addaction scripts. Try searching for TTS cloaking script, you can re-create that but with different types of skills you can imagine. You can literally adjust everything you want in arma like health, weapon sway, recoil, character speed if you feel like you want to play arma but make it more like call of duty you can adjust the game to feel more like that. While other games limit you on what you can play. I won’t buy squad not because of my bias but because i still want to sink another 700 hours into arma.
I got Arma 3 on sale from steam with a ton of add ons for $30. I'm very familiar with modding as I've done it with Skyrim and other RPG's. That being said, modding Arma is far easier than it is with any other game I've ever modded (aside from the mods menu in Skyrim). You can set up certain mod loadouts for specific servers. That being said, with the 50 or so mods I have with the base game it takes up about 110GB if space which is hard to swallow for some people. With loading all those mods, I seriously recommend and SSD vs HDD.
Arma 3 is just like Asseto Corsa Competitive of fps. Super realistic, super fun to play but man you need to learn A LOT and play a lot to really enjoy it at its best. (Also, the controls are also pretty confusing but they can be used to)
I have Acer Nitro from Best Buy I have the AMD Rysen 5 4600. 8gb ram. With the GXT 1080. I picked up Arma 3 today n it runs it Fine imo. On standard settings. Even in Multi-player which is know for Tanking FPS I get a solid 30-60FPS. So if I can run Arma 3 it can run Squad I'd say.
@@Popmandoop ah, well, it's arma III for me. the wasteland game mode and the like looked good when i saw them in videos of arma. thanks for replying to me, have a nice day!
I haven't personally played post scriptum but I have heard that they're very similar. I made Squad guide a bit ago, maybe check that out and see if you already know it all! I feel like that would be a solid indicator.
Arma 3 is great but has aged badly. Playability is...well, different. You have to get used to it. Squad in the other hand is more like a traditional FPS but with more realism. Anyway, they are in different levels. If you want to go hardcore both are great but you'll have to join a community for that, go for Arma 3 if you want the sandbox experience (i've spent 1000s of hours in the editor), also has a great modding community. If you just want to install-and-play experience, then go for Squad.
If you are more into single player scenarios with cool bots or whatever, get arma. Squad is more realistic and it is a multiplayer for the most part. When starting on either game, arma is quite complicated unlike squad. I personally have more fun with squad and other similar games such as beyond the wire.

I agree 100%, Arma has a huge learning curve. Who wants to spend yrs trying to get good at a FPS? Squad it is for me & 6 Days in Fallujah in a few months. Great content, follow your passion & it will lead to good things!
Arma 3 is the superior game and by a massive stretch. It's not even comparable in terms of it's potential. That comes with a caveat though. Arma is a highly complex game which requires a lot of time to fully appreciate what it has to offer. The engine is insanely resource demanding too. Personally, I wouldn't touch Squad but then I go all the way back to VBS 1/OFP. For most people, Squad would be the better game
I own squad and cant say i play it much... Honestly its because people mostly do their own thing and you never know who to shoot and who not to shoot. I just wish it had team markers at all times not just up close, really its way different looking at a PC monitor vs real life. people say it would take away from the realism... Because we all know its very realistic to sit on your ass and click a mouse when your a ground soldier... Really its still just a game. If it had team markers i would be addicted to this game like super mega crack.

We got DayZ from Arma, it’s such a masterpiece itself
thinking of getting into Arma because of dayz is there crafting in arma as well?
@@naytbreeze 8 months late but no, not unless you play with a mod that adds it.
You NAILED IT for me. The configs are over the top. It’s ridiculous. Great video!
Perfect length, thank you for being thoughtful about that.
"The training is too much"
I don't think milsim is for you
You've got to be very committed
In my opinion, squad is definitely better if you are new to the milsim stuff and need to get a helping hand when starting. I say, if you are planning on getting arma but not too experienced, get squad. If you are planning on getting squad but you need the full realistic milsim experience, get arma. If your planning on getting both and your new, play squad for a bit like, a couple months or so, then get arma if you still want it. If you are experienced, just get arma, unless you have money and want to get both. In short, if your new to the military genre, get squad, if you are looking for hardcore milsim, get arma.
Pick up and play was all I needed to hear...thank you
I hope when Arma IV comes the graphics question to be solved
I agree, right balance of info/video and your opinions and explanations. i knew 0 about either now want both!;)
I got ARMA 3 for $6 on its anniversary on Steam. It was also on my wishlist for sometime so i didn't waste a second.
i just got it for $6 as well and i also got the prairie fire dlc too for an extra 14 bucks. definetly has been on my list for a while too, glad to finally start getting into it
you're a cool dude. thanks for the review
I think you're a pretty cool dude too! Thanks for the comment!
....Squad. *Groundbranch is incredible too*
Good stuff man. Keep at it
Thanks! Will do and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I couldn't make a decision, so I bought both and now I have 200+ hours on both. 10/10 would buy both.
Such a well produced video bro you deserve tons of more subs
you should remake this video every couple of years
I'd love another. All I have is he'll let loose and want s modem one but I'm being picky cuz I don't want to get shafted
arma 3 wth ace3 mod. its by far the most realistic war game. but squad its very good too.
I haven't tried that mod yet. Sounds like it's worth a look! Thanks!
@@Popmandoop i love arma because its hard and challengin , altough time consuming
Only 500 subs. Thats sad, you should have way more, your content is so good.
Thanks! I'm glad you like the channel! Hopefully as I get back to posting we can see even more growth and grow an even bigger community!
your really underrated for your channel size keep the hard work up!
Thanks! I appreciate it. It's a grind but we're still growin!
@@Popmandoop no worries and yeah i bet lol
If you want realism go with Arma 3. If you want semi-realism with an arcade/battle royale feel go with Squad. Both are great games but I would give the edge to Arma 3 due to the endless amount of mods/gameplay modes, etc..
What do u mean battle royale? Jump from airplane with parachute.. tlooting weapons and items, then fight againts another squad till 1st? And get legendary skin?
now compare squad to arma reforger.
Thank you a lot thank you for helping pepole (even tho its just find a game am so happy that you did!!)
thing i hate about arma 3 is you have to buy access to snipers, helicopters, and planes
Not a problem if you're not broke. Get your money up
Such good production, keep it up :)
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
As someone who was in the military for a very long time. I will not be as a dismount. I was on tanks during my time in the military so I will be on tanks in game.
Oh that's pretty cool! Good thing both games have really fun vehicle play. You'll have to let me know how accurate they are!
I'm running 192 mods right now in Arma 3... at the same time.
Love your channel dude! I’m just getting a gaming computer and I was trying to pick between Arma and squad. This helped a lot!
Thanks! I felt the exact same way, that's why I made the video!
God I want squad now but arma is 10 dollars on sale right now
Same
Honestly, I think Squad is the better game for its straight-forwardness but Arma is also really good. 10$ Is a really good price for it, if you're willing to take the time to learn it. Keep an eye on Squad as well! They have quite a few sales every once in a while.
@「 Deadpoppin 」 you cant refund arma after 2 hours
Simulations almost always eat up your CPU like nothing :D
For me its Arma.
I bought Arma but I had no idea what to do or where to go. Probably better I stick to squad :(
@@newchangeunlisted_viewer5594 yikes, maybe joining a realism clan would be a great idea. Do some more research on tutorials overall.
@Ruska lol did i say it was easier?? I was actually defending squad from the first comment wtf. Read again
Thank you so much, I was deciding between arma and squad. You made me know which to buy.☺️☺️☺️
I'm glad it helped! I know I was in a similar position a few years ago
youll be done with squad in a few months,Arma3 has been in the top 50 games played for 7 years.
@@MsFreegaza yes I love arma but oh my fucking god it was so hard to get into. The majority isn’t up for spending so much time in a game.
That's what opinions are, but there's no reason to attack or downplay others opinions just because they don't align with your own.
just subbed! your videos are high quality and you could grow immensly!
i really enjoy arma 3 just because of the zeus gamemode, sog praire fire, mods, and the editor
i have played squad for only a couple of hours during a free weekend, for some reason i ran into some heavy performance and graphics issues (i could see grainy effect in the distance, i had resolution set to my monitor) when i did and it left a bad taste in my friends mouths
i dont know why i had such issues with squad because everyone else online seems to have no issues but i never figured it out because again, free weekend
I have Arma and have played 4ish hours but idk i cant seem to understand like anything
In my opinion if u want a fun tactical and friendly experience play squad but if you want to get ptsd play arma lmao
Don't worry it's a joke i don't really know much about the games I've never played them but have always wanted to cause I'm a battlefield fan I like games that involve teamwork and action
so your saying arma is realistic than?
So a quick recap, Arma 3 needs nada pc to run at 120fps, squad needs a mid budget gaming pc and it runs perfectly with about 60-120 fps
If Squad had good single player capability, I would've chosen it. But it doesn't, so I didn't.
For sure. That's one thing I didn't do a good job covering. Arma has a huge single and multiplayer community, but Squad has only multiplayer.
I am getting a pc it costs around £700 so im hoping i can run these games
Fingers crossed!
I wonder is gtx 1650 6gb and intel i7 4790, ssd spec. Enough for squad good ( 60 or more ) fps rates?
Yah I'd say so! I'm running a 1660ti but my brother has a 1660 and a 2600 which is pretty equivalent to a 4790. It'll have to be 1080p and you'll need to tinker with the settings, but it does sound attainable!
In my opinion squad is better in graphics...that would be remaining in Arma...but squad I think it's more limited about content and creating tools as a sandbox like Arma
I can’t play Squad. I’ve tried every single solution that has been posted anywhere, but I still have zero servers showing up in the server browser.
Uninstall and reinstall it. That did the trick for me. Make sure your connection is solid. Do the tutorial (20 minutes) then go to browse and servers near your should show up. I personally recommend elite as it’s very noob friendly.
4gb 1050ti, 16gb ram, i5-8400 1080p. Can I play Squad in stable, any good fps?
Fyi. R7 4000 series + RTX 2060 , I can get more than 60 fps at low settings, 40 fps when team fight
Yeah Arma is definitely the next step up! and yes you cant use the dlc vehicles unless you have the dlc, but I think you can still be a passenger.
yeah arma 3 has dlcs and all that but theirs a big modding community that pretty much has every mod you probably like
I’m on Xbox so I can’t get mods so what would you recommend
i appreciate rust getting a shoutout
Arma 3 > Squad
Squads engine doesn’t feel true to scale if that makes sense. I genuinely feel like arma has better graphics. Squad has better visual effects but depth and how natural the controls feel goes to arma for sure.
Opinion:
Buy both, both are awesome in their own way
id probably buy which is the cheapest
Ground branch , Zero hour cuz i like more squad tactics how a big scale army half sim
Awesome! I have ground branch and I just picked up Zero Hour! Great games if CQB is more your thing! Same with the ISMC mod for insurgency sandstorm!
Arma 3 is just like Asseto Corsa Competitive of fps. Super realistic, super fun to play but man you need to learn A LOT and play a lot to really enjoy it at its best. (Also, the controls are also pretty confusing but they can be used to)
Just bought squad and I'm so excited I am worried though that my potato PC won't play it.
Poor boy chronicles.
Thanks, very helpful
I play arma and squad, but squad have weird maps,i will pick the arma3
You said your specs were in the description... But I looked and couldn't find them :(
You're totally right! I'll put them in right now. For the time being I have:
Ryzen 7 3800x
1660ti EVGA Dual Fan
16gb DDR4 RAM
and a 500gb ssd
Whichever one is the furthest away from COD is the one I wanna play.
What was a beat price? On sale?
Will my Acer Nitro 5 be able to run squad.
I'm not sure, but I think it could run decently on low settings. If it doesn't steam allows refunds if youre under 2 hours of playtime!
Arma for absolute Freedom, also to be sent out to space by a bicycle.
how's squad for pve/pvpve?
That's what I didn't really touch on since Squad has no PVE at all. It's completely pvp driven.
@@Popmandoop ah, well, it's arma III for me. the wasteland game mode and the like looked good when i saw them in videos of arma. thanks for replying to me, have a nice day!
@@yaboinubtheii4154 Yah for sure! You have a good one as well!
squad is a best tactical shooters game.
I have both, but Squad all day for me.
I have over 400 hours in Post Scriptum can I just jump into Squad or is it that different?
I haven't personally played post scriptum but I have heard that they're very similar. I made Squad guide a bit ago, maybe check that out and see if you already know it all! I feel like that would be a solid indicator.
Yeah its similar. Some different mechanics though
i only bought arma because it was 8$ which is a steal
100% Arma 3 for 8 bucks is more of a robbery Lol!
Should I get both?
Arma 3 is great but has aged badly. Playability is...well, different. You have to get used to it. Squad in the other hand is more like a traditional FPS but with more realism. Anyway, they are in different levels. If you want to go hardcore both are great but you'll have to join a community for that, go for Arma 3 if you want the sandbox experience (i've spent 1000s of hours in the editor), also has a great modding community. If you just want to install-and-play experience, then go for Squad.
I wonder if my RX 6500XT can handle arma
If you are more into single player scenarios with cool bots or whatever, get arma. Squad is more realistic and it is a multiplayer for the most part. When starting on either game, arma is quite complicated unlike squad. I personally have more fun with squad and other similar games such as beyond the wire.
It just depends on what you're looking for
100%
I don’t play modded arma tbh and it’s so fun I have 200. Hours I recently got into the 55th br server I think das what’s it called it’s the best multiplayer server in my opinion you can fly wtv yu eant except cas
I agree 100%, Arma has a huge learning curve. Who wants to spend yrs trying to get good at a FPS? Squad it is for me & 6 Days in Fallujah in a few months.
Great content, follow your passion & it will lead to good things!
If it takes you years to learn Arma then I’m afraid you have some severe learning disabilities
For most people, Squad would be the better game
i think squad is just for fun and arma is for being all serious and profesionall
Nah, arma is also fun asf, especially reforger, met some great people in WCS
I own squad and cant say i play it much... Honestly its because people mostly do their own thing and you never know who to shoot and who not to shoot. I just wish it had team markers at all times not just up close, really its way different looking at a PC monitor vs real life. people say it would take away from the realism... Because we all know its very realistic to sit on your ass and click a mouse when your a ground soldier... Really its still just a game. If it had team markers i would be addicted to this game like super mega crack.
I couldn’t decide so I bought both
which one do you prefer more
