Just replaced my Hotpoint main oven thermostat. A little more complicated than the video as it has a halogen hob but the guidance through the video is first class. Thanks!
Hi Scott, thank you so much for your comment here...we are glad to hear that you found this video useful to help with your repair. Well done for completing the fix yourself!

Hello Rory, my EW74x Hotpoint oven light doesn't go on at all, I can hear a weird sound inside the cooker, almost like a faint high pitched drilling sound .It sounds like its trying to do something , I am replacing the fan I ordered off you tomorrow ,it arrived very quick , nice one ! I'm on espares now but there's only ew74g thermostat , will that work please ? Thank you .
It sounds like you may have a loose terminal in the connector at the back causing an arc and burning. For more information see another video: ua-cam.com/video/YvQEDG-hNz4/v-deo.html
Hi, thanks for your comment. We hope you have been able to replace the thermostat with our help, and that that your oven is now working a it should be again!
@@eSpares All working fine, thank you, although the two screws holding the thermostat control were covered by the glass front, which was glued on. I managed to remove it and glue it back on afterwards but only then realised that all I needed to do was twist a quarter turn to remove it 😁. Also, although I was careful enough to fit the new control with the terminals in the same orientation, I found that it was upside down but I had already put it all back together so just remarked the knob 😁

I have a Smeg oven that gives me an error 1 alarm and stops the oven. The only info I can find is that it's probably related to the thermostat. Do you know something about this? Nice explanatory video by the way!
Hi fophinho, Error code F1 on a Smeg oven refers to the oven has detected a problem with the temperature sensor not relaying information so check the sensor.
Any suggestions on what to do if your oven is still overheating, whatever the temp setting is AFTER you have replaced the thermostat like this? (Just done it this afternoon and still have the same problem, but Loved you video and would never have had the guts to give it a go otherwise!) Assuming I didn't damage the new thermostat and it wasn't already bust (which I'm pretty sure is that case) is there anything else that can cause these symptoms?

+Asif Ifas Thanks for the comment, Hopefully by cleaning the cap rod it will help cool down the oven and well done for replacing the heater element. Don't shy away from Doing It Yourself ;)
What actually goes wrong with the thermostat to cause it to always rise to the highest temperature. I removed the top of the thermostat and saw that everything seemed to be in it's proper order, no breakage or loose connections on the copper wire either. But! The copper sensor seated inside the thermostat wasn't slowly fluctuating to turn off the oven when the 150 - 200 degrees was met, which allows the oven heating element to reach highest temp. Yes, I turned power fuse amp on to test this.
Hi Rory Just wondering if you can point me I the right direction please I have a lamona oven And it's working fine but when I turn the thermostat off The power indicator light is staying on .. but the light is faint Is this some thing to worries about . Thanks James
Hi sean , is the oven cycling correctly? as long as it is not overheating it may just be the indicator light flickering which will not stop you using it.
That was very helpful. I have a Bush oven which switches itself off after a a few minutes then automatically comes back on after a while. Maybe after it cools.. is this a thermostat issue or could it be a cut off switch or something??? Your assistance would be appreciated
Hi Absee, it could be either at this stage so test both, also test the cooling fan and the oven switch. this video will help as well ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
Hi. I wondering if the losing of the clips that hold the element can compromise the functionality of it. We lost our ones in a Cata oven and now is not heating anymore the down part side
Hi Enrique, the clips that hold the element stop it from touching anything else when it gets hot and expands if it is not heating check for any signs of damage then use a multimeter to test it to confirm if it has failed.
great tutorial thanks , ordering my thermostat just now from a Mr Watt i swear im telling the truth he gave me some good advice also , thankyou bruce i ve just taken my old wonky thermostat off myself with your expert help :)
Hi so my Indesit oven is just getting really hot whatever the temperature, and the light is not going out when its been on for a while - I guess this is the thermostat right? The model number is FIM 21 KB IX - will any thermostat work with this or do I need something specific?
Hi John, it does sound like the thermostat isn't working correctly, you will need to have the correct part otherwise it won't fit or work correctly but check out our part pages www.espares.co.uk/search/ma805pt1604/cookers-and-hobs/thermostats/indesit
Thanks for the video. I have a stand alone indesit oven, The oven switches on from cold and heats up. when it reaches the set temperature it trips the RCD. when you reset the power and turn on the oven it trips as soon as it hits the thermostat temperature. Is this the element or the thermostat most likely?
Strange as it may seem the problem is more likely to be the element but we cannot guarantee this. Good luck with the repair and please let us know the outcome.
Help please. Purchased Energy Regulator (ES212776) for Creda 40063 from espares but wiring is different. Can you advise where each wire goes. No videos available for different or new universal regulators
Hi Love your videos! Insightful as always! I have a Lamona 4401 oven. It gives some heat, and the oven light isn't turning on / and the fan isn't working (I'm assuming as it doesn't make a noise as it does when its on). Is the thermostat the most likely culprit? Thank you in advance for your help!!
Hi Noreen, if the light comes on and it cycles when it reaches the temperature then it is not the thermostat, test the switch first and then the fan motor with a multimeter to determine if they have failed.
+eSpares thanks for getting back so quick. The light doesn't come on, the fan doesn't seem to be operational and the oven gives warm heat but nothing more. Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter so was going to try and tackle the most likely part through trail and error. I imagine it's hard to be sure of what's wrong, but would you have any inkling based on that information? I'm thinking it's the fan motor? Thanks
OK, Noreen, if you are going to do it the hard way here is a video on replacing the fan motor ua-cam.com/video/AYC3mVlqxmA/v-deo.html&t but check out our other oven videos which may be useful and let us know how you get on.
Hi, I am just about to order part to replace as I think my thermostat is the issue. Wonder if you could confirm please 2 days ago over only worked below 150degrees, grill and hob fine. Yesterday only grill and hob work, Today only the hobs work. I assume it is a faulty thermostat and not clock/an element for example but is there any way to be sure? Thank You
At 4:34 we talk about the oven temperature indicator. This should light when the elements are being heated and if the thermostat was faulty the light would not come on. However if the grill is not controlled by this (some models) it suggests a common problem between grill and oven so check the terminal block as the connections may be loose and burning. For information on the terminal block see our video: ua-cam.com/video/YvQEDG-hNz4/v-deo.html
Hi, my oven gets insanely hot if I set it to anything above 140c but below that it keeps the correct temp roughly. The indicator light comes on and off but the temperatures seem way off? Do you know what this could be? Does it need re calibration?
Hi adam, most thermostats can not be re-calibrated, is the thermostat cycling above 140c? you will also need to test the overheat thermostat to determine if it has failed.
@@eSpares thanks for the quick reply. It does cycle yes. I tested it with a thermometer yesterday and it's way out... 100c on the dial is actually 220c and 200c was hitting past 280c! All the usable temps are between 0 - 100c on the dial so Ive just made an accurate dial sticker for now. Don't know what would cause this but at least it's now controllable. Thanks again
I had The thermostat and oven element replaced( did not do it myself ) with parts supplied by e spares. initially the circuit breaker was tripping out when the temperature in the oven rose. so I thought it was thermostat. Now the element does not heat up at all. could it be wired wrongly or is it a faulty part?
You need to identify the problem before replacing parts as if you have connected the wires correctly that should not be the fault. For information on Diagnosing the problem see another video: ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
I replaced the oven element in my Electrolux cooker which had blown then the element went in the grill shortly afterwards, the grill and oven are heating ok but the oven is full of smoke . The oven is clean and I allowed it some time to dry out but it's still filled with smoke. I would appreciate your advice on the subject
Hi Daniel, new elements pick up grease and oil during manufacturing and will produce smoke when first turned on. This will burn off quickly so just open a window and run the oven then the grill for five minutes and all should be well.
hi can you confirm if the thermostat is the isdue.. my oven switches off i can turn it back on and it will work then after a shortwhile turns off again..thanks
This sounds like the safety cut out is stopping the heating. Check the thermostat controls the temperature on low heat (light will cycle on and off when warm) if it keeps getting hotter it will be a faulty thermostat. For more information see another video: ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
eSpares thanks. I broke mine trying to get the old grill out. (You have to remove a screw that the thermostat is attached to, so you have to remove thermostat from the assembly. But the little clips holding it in break easily.) Do you have spares of the thermostat‘s metal clip holder? (The thermostat is fine I think... looks like a switch with a little metal plate that detached)
Can the thermostat make everything dead in an oven? Temp indicator light, oven light and fan? Thanks. Ironically, only thing I do get is the click when turning the knob on.
No, that is what we try and explain in the diagnosis video. The light and fan would still work but the indicator and element would not if it was the thermostat. There are only four areas common to the light, fan and element. 1: Clock relay for automatic cooking. 2: Thermal cut out if unit has overheated in the past. 3: Selector switch to change between grill, fan and conventional ovens (depending on model). 4: The terminal block (distributes power to the separate circuits. Wiring unless damaged does not normally fail but connectors can get hot and burn if loose.
eSpares hi mate my electric logic cooker seems to have no power to the bottom half could this be a blown fuse iv replaced the motor and thermostat and it has a recently new heating element thanks
I have a mini range leisure electric cooker..the oven light and fan come on the oven gets lukewarm but no hotter, the top oven is fine, so are the hob rings and I can hear the fan...is this likely to be the thermostat please..thank you
Hi Kim, it is more likely that the oven element is failing so check that first, you will need to gain access to the element and check for any signs of damage and meter the element to establish if it has failed.
Hello, good morning, I have an electric stove and the temperature selector and thermostat has broken down and I called a specialized technician and he came in my house dismounted the two went away and said he would come back with the two new parts and never came back, I bought the new parts but I am afraid to connect them because there are many wires and plugs, so I would like to know if you have any electric stove of the brand logik model LFTC60A12 that can take some photos of the connections of the temperature selector and the thermostat and can send me so I can assemble without damaging the new parts I bought .... Thanks and look forward
Hi david, the only appliances we have are for filming and we do not have your model so cannot take photos but if anyone else has hopefully they will be able to help.
Hi Harriet, how do you mean not heating properly too hot or too cold?. We suggest you watch our oven diagnosis video first to help identify the likely area of the problem: ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
Just a quick question if I may, my oven keeps tripping the rcbo when the oven reaches temperature and clicks off, I’ve checked all the 5 elements for resistance with a multi meter and they all seem fine. I’m thinking the thermostat is causing an earth leak somehow, any ideas ?
Your problem is in our opinion likely to be one of the elements (probably the one heating at the time but not always) not the thermostat.A 'leaky' element will not always show with a multi meter, for more information see this video: ua-cam.com/video/XV6QlTwobLo/v-deo.html
Cool, thank you very much for such a speedy reply, it looks like I might need to get someone in after all to check it out, I don’t have access to a megger insulation tester and don’t fancy narrowing the search down by randomly changing elements. I just think it’s strange when I can use both ovens or grills until they reach the desired temperature just to trip when the thermostat clicks the element off. I may also have an over sensitive rcbo as the oven is running off a new CU. Thank you again for your reply, your videos are very well made useful and informative
Good Morning, I have a cda intergrated fan oven but have lost manual and cant find the model number. The thermostat needs replacing but I cant find one that is same as one I have. Do you have email address i can email photo so you could possibly help me find correct thermostat part for my oven. If you could help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
On some 'pyro clean' ovens the door locks during the self clean cycle as it heats to a very high temperature. If the problem still occurs after switching of then on and resetting the clock check the lock and the oven element.
Our oven heats up but goes past the set temperature then cools to below the set temperature.....and keeps cycling up and down. I'm assuming it's the thermostat. Is this the case?
Hi iSharon Smith, if the thermostat is cycling it usually means OK and depending on the thermostat would have a tolerance of + or - 10% if the thermostat is overheating well past the correct temperature then it is likely to be the thermostat.
Hi Louise, it is likely to be very similar to this but without the full model information we cannot give specific advice. Are you sure you need to replace the thermostat?. It may be worth watching the following video to confirm the problem first: ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
If you watch the video linked above you will find many other reasons why the oven may not be working besides the thermostat so it may be worth checking these first before trying a new thermostat. The thermostat is a switch that can be tested with a meter to confirm the switch is closed, if it remains 'open' then it would be faulty. We cannot identify your appliance without a model number so if you need help finding this follow the information on this link: www.espares.co.uk/findingmodelnumbers
eSpares removed the element and rcd stayed in now put new element in and it’s still tripping it, as soon as it’s turned in it’s tripping it? What would you suggest next?

Hi Kim, it is more likely that the oven element is failing so check that first, you will need to gain access to the element and check for any signs of damage and meter the element to establish if it has failed.
that was nice and helpful .. thanks a lot
Creda Concept top oven not heating properly. Could it be the thermostat?
Hi Harriet, how do you mean not heating properly too hot or too cold?. We suggest you watch our oven diagnosis video first to help identify the likely area of the problem:

Just a quick question if I may, my oven keeps tripping the rcbo when the oven reaches temperature and clicks off, I’ve checked all the 5 elements for resistance with a multi meter and they all seem fine. I’m thinking the thermostat is causing an earth leak somehow, any ideas ?
Your problem is in our opinion likely to be one of the elements (probably the one heating at the time but not always) not the thermostat.A 'leaky' element will not always show with a multi meter, for more information see this video:

Cool, thank you very much for such a speedy reply, it looks like I might need to get someone in after all to check it out, I don’t have access to a megger insulation tester and don’t fancy narrowing the search down by randomly changing elements. I just think it’s strange when I can use both ovens or grills until they reach the desired temperature just to trip when the thermostat clicks the element off. I may also have an over sensitive rcbo as the oven is running off a new CU.
Thank you again for your reply, your videos are very well made useful and informative
Good Morning,
I have a cda intergrated fan oven but have lost manual and cant find the model number. The thermostat needs replacing but I cant find one that is same as one I have. Do you have email address i can email photo so you could possibly help me find correct thermostat part for my oven.
If you could help would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou

After cleaning my self cleaning oven the door locked sign is flashing and want go out and can't get oven to work. Can you help me. It's a Kenmore
Nice video. What is the cost of this job without the price of the thermostat in UK?
hi can you help me to find a smeg 2500 watt hob upper heating element for a42
Hi addis, just use our link to our webpage www.espares.co.uk/search/mo970486pt1595/cookers-and-hobs/elements/smeg/a42
have a bush dual fuel oven was wondering how to change the thermo
Hi Louise, it is likely to be very similar to this but without the full model information we cannot give specific advice. Are you sure you need to replace the thermostat?. It may be worth watching the following video to confirm the problem first:
ua-cam.com/video/_lWk22-qvoI/v-deo.html
hi yes element went but replaced that but light for thermostat isn't on the thing is my cooker is dual fuel so got gas hobs
If you watch the video linked above you will find many other reasons why the oven may not be working besides the thermostat so it may be worth checking these first before trying a new thermostat. The thermostat is a switch that can be tested with a meter to confirm the switch is closed, if it remains 'open' then it would be faulty.
We cannot identify your appliance without a model number so if you need help finding this follow the information on this link:

nice one, really helped me. :)

Mine is tripping the rcd oils it be the thermostat
Hi tospicy4ya, it is more likely to be the element causing the RCD to trip so check that first before suspecting anything else.
eSpares removed the element and rcd stayed in now put new element in and it’s still tripping it, as soon as it’s turned in it’s tripping it? What would you suggest next?
