Mark Fisher would play this to his students in his DOCH lectures. When he listened to this song, the atmospheric synth chords, the mournful vocals and the violent bass must have felt like the "haunting presence of the past" that he likes to talk about. It surely depicts his ideas perfectly if you think about it. Its like Burial didnt know why he felt the way he felt and made this eerie, distorted and dark music. Unconsciously longing for the past and at the same time worrying about the missing future (Mark Fisher means innovation in culture when he says future) which leaves you with this unsettling feeling and you're left only with nostalgia. I'm not sure if I understood the school of Hauntology correctly here but if you're interested in this I'd recommend Epoch Philosophy's video "Ghosts of Mark Fisher". Obviously this all is a hypothesis of Fisher's. Its certainly interesting. Epoch Philosophy says it depicts the vibe of Londons dark and rainy streets, which most of those Dubstep producers back then directed their production at. To me this track is unbelievably violent and eerie indeed. Just have that hypnotic drum pattern and bass in focus. Its fucking amazing how he managed to make a 70bpm dubstep beat feel like a 140bpm garage beat. Almost 2-step kinda. Those distorted chords? Out of this world. Then he finally unleashes those chords in full power at 3:11. It sounds apocalyptic. It sounds like a lightning strike slowly burning its way through metal. This track definitely a looper for the next days..
* Reminisces about wandering through Lambeth´s streets at ungodly hours , coming back home , alone , from a night out - unaware that just a few blocks away my mood was being put into music .

This album was there for me during a lot a chaos. Great memories
Future music from the past is so up that I don't want to come back down.
One of the best songs of all time easily. The drums :') Been listening to this song for 11 years now and it doesnt get old
Always very emotionally melodic
Such a tune

Nothing has made me this emotional in a while. I'm close to tears. I love the hell out of this.
