  • Detailed building review of LEGO Palace Cinema (10232) - Palace Cinema is one of the most beloved of the LEGO modular building series - and with good reason.
Check out eggybricks.com ➡️ for instructions and stickers, and sign up for the email list to get behind-the-scenes details and occasional off-the-cuff videos delivered to your inbox!
In this video, we cover our favorite building techniques, show our favorite parts of the experience, and talk about what it's like to get a ten-year-old set in 2022. We also place Palace Cinema in our LEGO city, so our figs can watch some movies.
Disclaimer: The ticket pictured at 5:23 is not included in this set.
Some neat things about Palace Cinema:
    - Palace Cinema comes with a rare green brick puller
    - Palace Cinema comes with a red baseplate, to evoke Hollywood red carpets - it's the only set to have one except for the Hospital set released in 1978.
    - Palace Cinema looks heavily inspired by Grauman's Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, which opened in 1927
    - Palace Cinema comes with special star-printed tiles that look like the Hollywood Walk of Fame stars
    - The black spiral staircase on the first floor uses rounded 1x5 technic plates to place tiles, which are then rotated around each other.
    - First-floor interior mini-builds include: a concession stand w/ soda machine, popcorn machine, and condiment shakers; plus a ticket service area with cash registers.
    - Second-floor interior mini-builds include: the movie screen itself, two rows of red seats, and the film projector.
    - The exterior of the second floor has a railing made with skeleton feet.
    - The Chinese roof is made out of 1x1 round bricks and looks fantastic.
    - The sign has really nicely brick-built letters.
    - The marquee pulls it all together.

You have hands down the BEST filmography of any lego channel I have seen and especially with the build highlights. Please continue this in future videos. It is super unique and gives the viewer added value as we can see finer details rather than a simple overhead shot like most of the bigger channels do.

      i think you meant cinematography… a filmography is a body of work by a filmmaker/actor/producer/etc., similar to a discography for a singer/artist.

This was the second set I bought in 2015 when I came out of my dark age. For me I still think it's one of the best Modular sets after the Parisian Restaurant. It's shame about the mould. It may have been stored in a humid environment. Also nice production on your video.😀👍

Boy, I never thought I'd see someone incorporate Bela Tarr into a Lego set... I saw Satantango at MoMA 10+ years ago. One of the great movie going experiences ever. I even got to meet him in NYC when he was promoting Turin Horse.

This review is amazingly well done. The production is really really good. Thank you for all the time and effort put in to making this video and informing me on my decision to purchase this set. Crossing my fingers it is mold free ;)

I love your enthusiasm! And at 9:40: YES Sátántangó!!!! As a Hungarian it was the icing on the cake. Thank you for bringing back the memories. I saw it in an unheated university cinema on a cold winter from 11:pm until next morning. The experience really matched the athmosphere of the film ;)

Don't sell short older sets, I buy them all the time. The mold you found on the paper items is the first I've heard of that--just how they were being stored and moisture must have collected.
As for brick fading, many people think that only happens when Lego exposed to sunlight, but I've had many 10 y/o plus sets, that were sealed, with faded bricks. There are a number of videos you can find on UA-cam showing how to bring life back to faded bricks.

I like your structured, mathematical layout approach to the city. I am limited on space for a city build, so I used your idea of the stacked city and started with building 8 studs wide Mocs. Looking forward to see more from you, all the best from Germany.

Nice video! I just got this one new in box myself via eBay. Thank goodness no mold!! It's the only retired set I'm willing to pay extra for but it looks so neat with a light kit. Had to have it. Agree the old style lego faces are cute but prefer the more expressive new faces so will be swapping them out. Thanks for the review. Can't wait to build it.

I built this this week ^^ not 100% done as I'm having trouble to find 6 trans-clear pieces in the proper color and not this yellowish material Lego uses now (sigh, I wish they took a step back or tried something different)
I didn't wanna represent and event, just a regular day, so I ignored the car, lights and "fences".. and even the figs as I already have too many, plus I went with 1x4 dark tan bricks instead of those expensive 1x8s so there was really no point on getting every extra thing xD
It's my favorite modular by far, a shame it's the only one with stickers.. but luckily I was able to buy some custom prints (on original pieces) from steindrucker a few years ago (it doesn't look like they sell them anymore though), they also included custom window "glass" for the 6 arch windows but custom print and stickers is as far from official I feel comfortable with so I didn't use them 😂

Great job. Video was well done also. I love the Palace Cinema, but yes The Diner is better. Two of my favourite Lego buildings are not considered modulars, The Old Fishing Shack and the Medieval Blacksmith Shop. Both are beautiful buildings, excellent build techniques and just a lot of fun to build and display.
I’ll be checking back again to see what you are up to.
One question…..why did you not include Market Street in the list of modulars? It is my least favourite modular and th only one I don’t have, but I was just curious. Merry Christmas 🇨🇦🎄👍

    • @eggybricks
      @eggybricks  Рік тому

Thanks so much! Great point about the not-modular modulars - we've been saving our Medieval Blacksmith set for a while, and now we're excited to build it soon. Sadly haven't gotten our hands on the Old Fishing Shack yet.
Re: Market Street - we know LEGO officially considers it a modular, but it seemed different enough (not marketed as Creator, much lower piece count/price point) that it seems unfair to compare it to the others. Plus that's one fewer for us to be missing :D

    • @MrPolleyr
      @MrPolleyr Рік тому

@@eggybricks ……I agree Market Street never seemed up to par with the rest of the Modular’s. I’ll enjoy watching you do the Blacksmiths Shop. If you can get The Old Fishing Shack for a decent price, buy it. You won’t regret it, it’s awesome.

Printed these days? Just got the jurassic park T-rex enclosure set recently and it was stickers only. I hate how Lego has gotten cheap over timewhile the sets are getting more and more expensive. Many other brands have better quality today. I bought some I like. Anyway, love your little city, it's amazing!!!! And you two are cool.

Never heard of LEGO instructions getting mould on them before, and there are sets going back 50+ years... I wonder if that box was somehow defective or stored somewhere damp? Or did LEGO use cheaper paper for a time? Very strange, I wonder if it's too late to order replacements from LEGO.

I got the palace cinema back in 2020 as one of the 3 modulars I got for my birthday and Christmas that year. I also got the Diner and Assembly square as well since 2020 marked 10 years since I got my first lego set. Right now my palace cinema is right on my beach next to the perisan restaurant then my in progress Dailey bugle and finally my boutique hotel to finish my 1 back row of buildings that I am happy with. Hope to finish the bugle by next week if all goes well.

I just got this set recently, and imo, the three black bricks that Lego used to hold the 3 wall lights are ugly. Like some other builders, I’m going to replace them with the same colour as the rest of the main floor walls. I’m pretty sure I need to get dark tan for that part, but I want to make sure before I order them. Can anyone confirm that I need to get dark tan? Thanks in advance.

Palace Cinema is one of the weaker modulars in my opinion. Very little SNOT construction, mostly regular brick wall construction with low fidelity. The roof is definitely the more interesting part of the build but it doesn't hold up well when viewed from the back. Regardless, I have fond memories of it. It was my first modular and big adult targeted set, it felt HUGE compared to my creator 3 in 1 houses at the time. My favourite modular will always be the parisian restaurant though.
