Awesome layout Norm like the Grittiness of the scenes and the 3 rail looks like it belongs in the scenes to me I have an HO layout at my house in one bay of my Garage and also a 3 rail O scale that I'm building in my parents Basement with my Dad always enjoyed O scale
Norm, thank you for taking the time to show us your thought process and the evolution of your layout. Many times I've gone back over your older videos trying to put all the scenes together to get the big picture. Very inspirational, I look forward to seeing more.
Thanks for doing thin Norm, it is great to see the process. I have followed your work for years, and it's nice to see how it came together. Wonderful job.
Superbly great work, Norm, especially given the fact that you were even born at the end of the period you're modeling!!!! I can only guess what you might do with much more room! Beautiful and I can say it because I REMEMBER much of these buildings and steam railroadside for a fact... thanks for the walk down memory lane, young man! arthur (Ngai)
Thanks again Norm!👍🏻 Excellent vid.. informative with such a high level of detail and realism. Your rock formations are awsome! Gotta say it.. you rock this hobby!! Looking forward to more vids!👍🏻😁
Great tour of your layout! Gave me some ideas if I want to expand my 5x11 HO Scale. The Beer Can Hollow is a great idea. If I did one, it'd be like "Maple Jug Hollow" with Sugar Maples, keelers and a maple camp...
One more thing I'd like to add, Norm. How you built the curve with the foam, plaster of paris, the look of it with either the Pennsy I1's or the B&O EM-1 gives it that "B&O Cumberland Division West End" feel and look. I mean like, "rounding the curve @ Terra Alta, WV"
Love these videos, especially about layout construction and scenery. Can you do one about building Downtown Deco/hydrocal kits and painting them? Your brick buildings look fantastic. Thanks!
@@normstrains After seeing your DD "shrine" I was inspired and bought my first DD kit, the "First Timer Bar." I assembled it per the DD instructions and am testing painting techniques now on the spare walls they provide. Was curious about your technique. Thanks Norm, great work, love your layout and Greenbrook. What is inspiring is the "big layout" look and feel you created for a straightforward track plan and medium-sized space. Fantastic work.
Hi Norm, I have just recently discovered your channel and I must say you have a fabulous layout. I wish I had the room for O Gauge/Scale the detailing is excellent. I’m at the other end of the scale and I’m currently building an N gauge/scale layout. Even though it’s a much larger scale I like the use of foam and intend to use it on my layout to so lots of good tips. Looking forward to your next episode, cheers for now Norm, John
Hey Norm, awesome job.... Question where do you buy your background buildings from and do you have any videos that show how you do your ground scenery?
It would be interesting if you did a video on how you wired your custom signals from TERRY CHRISTOPHER which I happen to be a very big fan of his product and I’m in the process of studying these wiring configurations you seem to have mastered it at this point so it would be interesting to see how you are about wiring up your signals just a thought keep up the good work.
I painted the side of the rails with Floquil Rail Brown (still have a bottle and a half I'm trying to preserve) then dusted it with Model Masters acrylic Grimy Black.
Norm I’ve tried every material available and I do not want to use much ground foam You have trackside and layout grass above your track rail would you share how you achieve this grass effect. I’m going crazy because you have found out how to achieve this effect. Thank you
Glad to see the second video norm! You have come a long way since then. Since your layouts shape is a double tracked loop with two yards, some extended sidings and an extension for the roundhouse and servicing, how do you avoid getting bored from seeing long trains go round and round on the layout? I wish not create com thing similar, but need a way to avoid becoming bored despite enjoying just watching trains go round and round? Do you do things like servicing and switching activities for your trains?
I didn’t build the layout for operation. I think if that’s your interest your design should start with that in mind right at the beginning. I haven’t gotten bored in any case. I keep finding stuff to do all the time. I suppose if I ever expanded I could include operations with off layout staging.
On your layout part 2 how wide is it from the wall to the end you never say how why it is each side is a 4 ft or 3 ft and in the other side how long is it
@@pennsylvania_steam7093 I could fill my small yard with hoppers I suppose. I have been collecting quite a few lately. A new yard would require a layout expansion. Maybe someday!
Really like the massive wall of windows on your round house
Great construction techniques that are very informative. Thanks Norm!
"Beer Fridge" on your print gave me a chuckle. Great insight on your thinking process and work progression!
Yes everyone should have a reliable source of vitamin B. Merry Christmas!

Fabulous work. Thank you for sharing the process of the foam construction. Really informative and provides great tips for us amateurs.
Excellent video. Your foam technique was quite informative and useful. Thank you
Great video on explaining how you made parts of your layout. I'll probably watch it a few times to pick up some tips. Thanks Norm.
Thanks for that Norm! Great work....now downstairs to work on the RR!

Amazing as always! You mentioned Dave Minarik… such a great guy. Already missing his shop.
Some great new scenery techniques (to me). I really like how you do your scenery and structures. Great weathering.

This was very inspiring! Thankyou for posting. Your creativity is very impressive! And you choice of colors/weathering really flows and compliments.
Thanks for sharing! Keep more videos coming! These are very inspiring as I’m working on my own 3 rail scale layout
Great Stuff. Always gets me inspired and psyched to do more work when I watch your vids.

Thanks for sharing the evolution of your layout Norm. This is extremely fascinating.

What a treat! Thanks for sharing.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!WORK
spectacular layout, love the realism!
I miss the old layout!

town is DEAD on man it could any coal town PA or WV love it!
What material did you use for your streets. Thanks
Masonite, mostly 1/8” thick.
Are going to add power and phone lines to your poles? great work

love the way your track is weathered. What was your process to achieve the desired result?

What third rail? Do a good job making it look real and like the Velveteen Rabbit it becomes real.
Gargraves track?
Atlas

Norm, do you use Atlas O for track and turnouts or a mix? Thanks.
All Atlas O
I just wonder what the dimension was that's why
It’s roughly 29’ wide by 36’ long. Most of the layout sections can be anywhere from 30” (duckunder) to 54” wide (car shop section).
Hey Norm I have a question do you have a freight yard?
I have a couple of long sidings on the inner loop at the front of the layout, that’s it really. I’d like to have an off-layout staging yard someday.
@@normstrains will it be cool to get a yard for all the coal hopper to get loaded or you don't have a enough room?
@@pennsylvania_steam7093 I could fill my small yard with hoppers I suppose. I have been collecting quite a few lately. A new yard would require a layout expansion. Maybe someday!
