    Justin’s music journey is weird. He started out as an artist named Amnaeon, won Jared’s vocal contest, had a mental breakdown, deleted all of his music (he had like 3 or four albums), took a year or so off, came back, rebranded as hungry lights (hungry covers and hungry pootoos (his cover channel and comedy music channels) came later), released four albums, is in the process of writing books for all four albums, and then Max and Mike Portnoy found him for Tallah.

      You're missing the most interesting part.
      As Hungry Lights, while Tallah was getting started; he was the first youtube i ever saw who actively went against his fanbase. He answered every single request comment with "i don't do requests", getting more and more agitated, but holding his ground.
      I started working online doing music shit (after working in the industry for a decade) and it was people like him, who had agency and knew how to actually deal with sheep-like, drone, npc "fans" who have a tendency to take over your life that made me ok with giving it a stab. Huge inspiration!

    Finn, legit question. What is "wrong" with "boomer" metal? I mean, you're using it in a negative context so I assume you personally think there's something lesser about it so I'd like to know what it is? Simply because it existed decades ago or is there something inherently lesser about the music for you?
    I always hear this term being used and I find it funny because if the music is somehow lesser than something newer just because it was released decades ago, then that has nothing to do with the music itself, you're just coming off trying to appeal to the younger crowds. I think there's a big reason why people still love and reference older metal bands. They fill a void that newer metal bands simply cannot replicate.
    Larger than life, completely original, lyrically timeless (mostly), story-telling elements, less "wall of sterile 8-bit noise" etc. So if that makes it "boomer" then so be it, there's a massive reason why these bands are still selling out stadiums and arenas 40+ years since they became a band and 20+ years since they were last "super relevant".
    "Boomer" music isn't even listened to by the boomers lol it's mostly by Gen-x, Millenials and now Gen-z's. Would love some clarification on what you mean by it.

      Maybe I’m just reading it wrong but it just comes off as tongue in cheek to me. I’m sure Finn would admit there’s reasons that music stays relevant for decades, I mean you’d be a fool to not recognize why it’s still listened to.

      @adamyahya4638 9 місяців тому

      @muymachopenguin4314 forsure but repeating it in most of his videos everything the topic comes up males me believe there's more to just being tongue in cheek, which is why I asked for clarification

      @laurisaarinen1126 9 місяців тому +1

      That is true. I do get Finn's point about people often only caring about the older bands and therefore newer stuff doesn't get enough exposure. But then again, all music will be old at some point, depends also what you call old. Some call nu metal old by this point, some absolutely don't. Anyway, the best bands will be remembered decades later when you can better tell what stood the test of time. And every single era of music has some of these bands.

    Mine has to be Uroboros (Remastered) by Dir en grey. They had taken their older more chaotic sound and blended it seamlessly with elements of death, doom, black, and nu-metal to create something truly unique feeling, and this would be the general template they use going forward. If I may attempt to explain Megadeth fandom…
    At least for me, part of the appeal for Megadeth, if I’m being honest, is rooting for the underdog. Mustaine’s history with Metallica if often used to ridicule him but it also is the best promoter of his music. And as a guitar nerd, Megadeth has the best guitar playing in the big 4. “It’s an acquired taste” I trained myself to tolerate and sometimes even like Mustaine’s singing.
    Megadeth has nerd/under-dog appeal.

    The musicians in Megadeth are actually insanely talented. It doesn't always translate into great albums or songs, but on a technical level (especially the guitar) they can be pretty amazing. If you combined the singing of James Hetfield and the great songwriting ability of early Metallica (Kill em All through the black album) with the musicianship of Megadeth I feel like you'd have a stellar band.

    My pick - The Pale Horse by Legend/LGND.
    It just sits with me personally. Big nostalgia vibes. Every song slams. The dark undertones throughout the album drive the tone. Chad is one of the best vocalist in metal. The breakdowns are impactful and heavy as fuck. Drums are simple and produced to perfection. Just the flow of the album and the songwriting bore deep into my soul.
    If I had to pick one or two songs, I’d go with “Parasite” and “Shut Down”.
    LGND’s self-titled is also in my top 10, too.

    It depends on what you call “Metal”.
    My favourite album of all time i wouldn’t call Metal, it’s Souvenirs by The Gathering, a fantastic mix of Prog and Trip Hop.
    My second favourite album of all time is questionable whether it’s Metal or not, because it could be counted as an Alternative Metal album, but it also has a ton of Post Grunge elements. Which is The Autumn Effect by 10 Years, a fantastic blend of Post Grunge/Alt Metal, with some small hints of Prog and even Folk in there.
    But if you want a straight undoubtedly Metal album answer then it has to be for me The Heart Of Everything by Within Temptation, a fantastic Symphonic Metal album and Within Temptation’s best album they’ve ever put out.
