I used to frequent band message boards back in the day before reddit was a thing, eventually I realized I was wasting all my time and getting myself riled up for no reason at all so I stopped using them entirely. Then reddit came along and I did it all over again for every subject except for metal. Quit that too. Eventually I realized I was much happier if I quit all conversation based social media platforms. UA-cam comments are the only thing I still use, and I usually just leave a comment and then never return to it to avoid arguments.
This is the way. Social media has absolutely destroyed 2 entire generations of humanity. The toxicity has overtaken the usefulness. It is a Cancer among us.

There’s a lot of gatekeepers yeah but as someone who used to be on r/metalcore and interacted with people daily, I got downvoted to shit one day because I stated an unpopular opinion on a band and people kept on piling and piling on me with the downvotes and assuming I was someone who heard them on TikTok and didn’t know anything about the subgenre or something(for the record I’m a senior in high school but that doesn’t matter given I’m a genuine fan of the genre through my older brother). They destroyed my mood so I deleted the app for a few days. I don’t think a subreddit has ever made me do that before. There is overwhelming negativity on there that I only visit it whenever it pops up on my feed.

Tbh I got into metalcore from the trustkill bands and loved that Era and even every Era even risecore. I say this because im not really into hardcore. However I also hate how these hipster pitchfork guys try to rewrite what hardcore is about by separating hardcore to hardcore "punk". Like during the trustkill Era there was a bunch of what they'd consider the bad hardcore bordering on metalcore but it sounded amazing and I loved it. I'll always align more to hardcore vs what they call hardcore punk because hardcore punk to me is just people being hipsters calling everything frat this and mainstream that when they weren't even in the scenes to begin with and their opinion is null. From what I've noticed Spotify's playlist are randomly generated and kind of sprinkle in stuff that you already like to kind of listen to in order to ease you in which is pretty annoying if you are looking for a specific genre. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to listen to something super heavy and bands like DRUG CHURCH or Viagra Boys show up. It's whatever AI they have just blending genres regardless if you want it or not.
I was at a Dillinger Escape Plan show circa 2002 or so. Was standing in line and my buddy just says " oh, the hardcore kids are here, yay). I look up and see this mongloid with a stubbly shaved head, wife beater, mouth slightly agape and just walking around breathing. That dude is the first thing that came to mind from over 20 years ago when I went to R/Hardcore.

Yeah, but you don’t turn on Worship and Tribute for breakdowns so I can kind of see it. Same thing goes for At The Drivein’s Relationship of Command. A fantastic album from start to finish but I don’t think it has a single breakdown

Everyone in that thread is just mad that they will forever be nobodies. Nik is genuinely a cool dude. I remember running into him a lot on bands we listened to, and people started making the memes of Nik covering the song before it even comes out. He actually would respond to you if he recognized you as well in the comments. What he has done is actually really fucking cool. The bands we grew up listening to or singers we always wanted to know more about, Nik not only has that happen, but even does interesting stuff with them, or checking our other bands together. Nik has done a lot to bring the metal community together unlike these basement dwellers.
Let's took it this way. Nu Metal is genre we all know here and love for some reason, he is fusion of rap style of singing, dark grunge lyrics and fast thrashy riffs. Making list called "Breakdowns" and put only hardcore songs just bc breakdowns comes from hardcore is like making Nu metal list with Nirvana and Wu tang clan on list, like can you imagine someone like that guy in reddit say "Metalhead is surprised to see Ice Cube in Nu Metal playlist" yeah no shit i would be surprised too

Yeah, but you don’t turn on Worship and Tribute for breakdowns so I can kind of see it. Same thing goes for At The Drivein’s Relationship of Command. A fantastic album from start to finish but I don’t think it has a single breakdown

Everyone in that thread is just mad that they will forever be nobodies. Nik is genuinely a cool dude. I remember running into him a lot on bands we listened to, and people started making the memes of Nik covering the song before it even comes out. He actually would respond to you if he recognized you as well in the comments. What he has done is actually really fucking cool. The bands we grew up listening to or singers we always wanted to know more about, Nik not only has that happen, but even does interesting stuff with them, or checking our other bands together. Nik has done a lot to bring the metal community together unlike these basement dwellers.

Let's took it this way. Nu Metal is genre we all know here and love for some reason, he is fusion of rap style of singing, dark grunge lyrics and fast thrashy riffs. Making list called "Breakdowns" and put only hardcore songs just bc breakdowns comes from hardcore is like making Nu metal list with Nirvana and Wu tang clan on list, like can you imagine someone like that guy in reddit say "Metalhead is surprised to see Ice Cube in Nu Metal playlist" yeah no shit i would be surprised too

I mean they at least had Jesus piece, mugshot, year of the knife, candy, sunami, and never ending game. There’s a handful of other bands on the playlist that go pretty hard but I feel like this playlist should have been for deathcore kids because that’s what would be expected based on the title lol
