If you’re making the reddit goobers angry, you’re doing something right in my opinion
Nothing infuriates them more than someone being well adjusted and speaking the truth.
Normally I'd agree, but I looked and this post has 0 upvotes and 30 comments. And a lot of comments are defending him. I wouldn't consider this "cancelled." Seems like most just don't care
imagin spending your valuable time there every day xD
It's a shitposting sub 🤣
@@vosoryan don’t get me wrong, not everyone on Reddit is a Reddit goober but everyone knows the type
100% factual actual
As Uncle Iroh said: "If you search for the light, sometimes you may find it. But if darkness is what you seek, it is all you will ever see". Perfect for Redditors
"The only thing better than finding something you are looking for is finding something you weren’t looking for at a great bargain!"
Thanks to this video I'm adding Bulldoze to bands I need to listen to more
DUDE 🙌❤️ Thank you for the Uncle Iroh love (by means of Korra no less, my favorite series only because of how it stood on Avatar’s shoulders). This is a quote I cite often -in present day especially- so thank you for that 🤝❤️
Such a wise man. I hope the live action does good by him.
@poeticsilence047 it looks like it will based on the teaser alone
Nik: stresses all along the way that he doesn't dislike Hardcore but the lack of Breakdowns with a playlist title like this
Reddit: How dare he hate on Hardcore?
😂😂😂😂
He even propped the list when real breakdowns were going on.
We have to stop calling melodic pop-punk hc.
Nik's face whenever he hears actual hardcore music is wonderful. Haha. But I agree, a playlist called "The Breakdown" that's missing actual legit, classic hardcore bands? Ridiculous.
Opposing views in rock and metal?! How dare you! Triggered is an understatement bucko!
😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Justice for Nik! The good boy of modern metal who hath done NO wrong!
I'm a software dev, and I was cracking up at your shoutout to the Spotify DevOps team. So good.
I'm a techsupport lead. Same here, just lost my shit on error page
Yeah, this was totally awesome.
I was once guarded/protective and emotional about the music I listen to... but then I turned 15.
I stand with Finn and Nic
There’s a finicky joke in there somewhere…
"I'm mad at Nik because he isn't stuck in the past like me. Metal and hardcore fans are only allowed to like the stuff they liked growing up and he should know this"
If you've never spent time in New York, you won't have any idea how insanely accurate the "folding your pizza, I'm from here" ploy is...
“All but the most sophisticated New Yorkers” we can see these fakes right through.
@@georgearrivalstransplants. People who went to Fordham or NYU and came from some jerk water USA town
@@mobilewintercamp7515 Yea not for nothing but most of us went to a cuny or st johns and we’re doing fine lol
I didn't know that was a New York thing...My family is from PA and still in PA, and I've always ate pizza by folding it to prevent the toppings from sliding off and the tip from bending over
@@Slegelrock PA pizza is legit. Anything outside of NY, NJ, PA, or CT is pie with Polly-o
I hereby sentence Nik Nocturnal to 7 years of No Eye Contact.
Put on this unwashed Corey Taylor mask from the 90s, you earned it.
LOL, I laughed way too hard at that mask.
Make prints of 24 disappointed Nick faces and send it to him as Christmas calendar😂😂😂
This is a brilliant idea.
am i the only one who thinks that nik looks better now? like he looks much more healthier and that makes me honestly very happy. great content Finn, by the way! Became one of my favorite metal youtubers. kinda like a metal dad that i don't have. keep it going man!
He said on the DickeyDines podcast recently that he’s been taking healthier approaches to work and making positive life changes + started dating Paula so he’s got a deathcore gf to play breakdowns with
@@itsshelby OMG WHAT I skipped soooo much but that's also so great to hear and I'm super happy for him!! Him and Paula are such a cute duo tbh 😄
@@ximioo1340 oh yes, they had such a great vibe together at the Mansion. Really happy for them. I was impressed with Paula too.
@@dominikaksiazek7177 same thoughts here!
Reddit needs to chill out and leave you guys alone. #JusticeForNik
You’d have a better chance at solving world peace than getting Reddit to be reasonable for three and a half seconds.
I stand with you & Nik. So many people on Reddit behave like 12 yr olds. So annoying... Love the inclusion of Andy saying "Here's the thing."
Canadians can’t be canceled
Trudeau has entered the chat* 🌚
People who get butthurt over music because music is their whole identity is CRINGE.
Love to see mom and dad supporting each other 🥲
One thing that I love is that both "normies" and "elitists" (I hate both those terms) can agree that spotify is ass at making playlists.
The gatekeeping by Reddit nerds is more outrageous than any specific band/genre fans out there. They've got the gumption of Gandalf screaming at the balrog that "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
And what is Nik and Finn doing then? “Not this band but needs to be this band” . The hypocrisy is crazy. I’ve never been to this Reddit sub but people are free to call out the two biggest “influencers” in metal if they want. In my opinion, they have absolute shit taste (especially Nik) so I condone any and all criticism towards them. Even Fantano’s hipster pitchfork ass likes better metal than this guy who runs an actual metal channel. Reddit nerds vs scene dorks it’s a lose lose.
But Gandalf could actually back up his shit talk lmao
There’s a lot of gatekeepers yeah but as someone who used to be on r/metalcore and interacted with people daily, I got downvoted to shit one day because I stated an unpopular opinion on a band and people kept on piling and piling on me with the downvotes and assuming I was someone who heard them on TikTok and didn’t know anything about the subgenre or something(for the record I’m a senior in high school but that doesn’t matter given I’m a genuine fan of the genre through my older brother). They destroyed my mood so I deleted the app for a few days. I don’t think a subreddit has ever made me do that before. There is overwhelming negativity on there that I only visit it whenever it pops up on my feed.
Bonus points for using "gumption" correctly!
@@Birtheater4545 That's kind of my point. You like what you like, and that should be the end of it. People telling you are wrong view musical taste/talent as objective, and not subjective. I fucking LOVE metalcore, and my favorite bands in the genre are Architects, OM&M, and the Amity Affliction. I understand how polarizing that is and I do not care. People can tell me I am wrong all day, but it's literally my taste. It's like eating certain foods. You can't tell someone they are wrong just because you don't like it. Apply that to your musical tastes, and you'll be much happier. Don't let the trolls drag you down!
Cancelled has truly lost all meaning as a word.
You care a strangely large amount about that word meaning something that it didn't used to mean. Why.
@slamkam07 a strangly large amount? Dude I wrote one sentence 🤡
"Riot Stairs, isnt that a Deadguy song?" That made me remember the like button.
Those people probably need to listen to the Graystone song :D
I like how often heavy music creators are interacting now. Obvious not everyone likes everybody, but I enjoy seeing fun stuff like this.
Shattered Realm was my first ever Hardcore show back in 2004/5, I'd never seen a proper hardcore pit before and literally the entire floor was one big pit for their entire set. Simpler times.
they came back recently..were supposed to play a show here (AZ) but unfortunately had to cancel
seen them a few times in philadelphia and new jersey way back then man shit was wild i recall shows with donnybrook and hoods maybe and another time with e town concrete
Me, at least once weekly, for nearly no reason at all: HERE’S THE THING
I enjoyed this way too much. Keep laying into these angry gatekeeper types Finn. They need to learn how to relax 😂
"unlike all you losers on reddit". My hand rushed on the like button.
People on the internet mad about something?... WHAT??
This comment maddens me
I love when these dudes just laugh off the haters. Keyboard warriors need to calm down. 😂
Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com/finnmckenty
Nic diddled peoples feelings. CANCELED!!!!
Finally some relief for Finn lmfao, can't wait to see this!
When you went on about Sworn Enemy, Shattered Realm, Ramallah etc… you were naming my fav hardcore bands and I thank you… and I was a Juggalo in middle school (still am)
I used to frequent band message boards back in the day before reddit was a thing, eventually I realized I was wasting all my time and getting myself riled up for no reason at all so I stopped using them entirely. Then reddit came along and I did it all over again for every subject except for metal. Quit that too. Eventually I realized I was much happier if I quit all conversation based social media platforms. UA-cam comments are the only thing I still use, and I usually just leave a comment and then never return to it to avoid arguments.
Since I've stopped browsing social media I'm in a better mood. Less stressed out.
This is the way. Social media has absolutely destroyed 2 entire generations of humanity. The toxicity has overtaken the usefulness. It is a Cancer among us.
As someone who scrolls through Reddit every now and then, you couldn’t be more right about the community, but you could say that about the whole site, you’d have an aneurism when looking at r/Slipknot after Jay left, some even calling for the band to quit, they even have their own gripe against AJ Good of the House of Masks YT channel.
What did AJ do lol?!
AJ? Why? I'm curious now xD
Coz AJ is a close friend of Jay Weinberg.
@@dominikaksiazek7177Subbed to r/Slipknot myself (not a super hardcore fan of the band but I enjoy some of their stuff), they basically view AJ as a manchild with a massive ego
I was at a Dillinger Escape Plan show circa 2002 or so. Was standing in line and my buddy just says " oh, the hardcore kids are here, yay). I look up and see this mongloid with a stubbly shaved head, wife beater, mouth slightly agape and just walking around breathing. That dude is the first thing that came to mind from over 20 years ago when I went to R/Hardcore.
Yeah usually East asians are on Reddit and on the Hardcore subreddit
Totally agree on spotify's pre-made playlist sucking! "Metal workout" has Black Sabbath, Ozzy , Godsmack....
imagine being at a show full of this subreddit, lmao .
Lol they would have to go outside first
I just love that sworn enemy got brought up so much. They have been one of my favorite bands for so long and it's a bummer to meet so few other people into them
Lol I had forgot that video popped in my recommend as well.
Thanks for reminding me to watch it.
Reddit is definitely toxic but this post youre referring to has 0 upvotes, 32 comments, and the caption says "I love Nik." Seems like no one really cares
Break it down for us
I was just listening to Emmure's Shinjuku Masterlord and the main hook of it was so relevant to the subject matter in this video and made it slap even harder... "do you really think I GIVE A F#CK?"
Best fucking song
Spotify put our poppiest / lightest song “Messy” on a metal playlist 😂 I think someone is out to lunch
His disappointed faces should be turned into NFT.
Not a real breakdown list without a Jam Band breakdown
Nothing goes harder than Phish
No Foggy Mountain breakdown on the list is criminal
Hey Finn, do you link Glassjaw?
I thought punks would get mad at the statement that this kind of music does not make Nik want to mosh. Punks open really crazy moshpits to songs like theese, without breakdowns
Haha I just got done watching this video. I was shocked as passionate as he is about breakdowns that he hadn't heard of Sunami or Jesus Piece
Holy shit you absolute skewered the person who made the playlist lmao
I'm subscribing because you used SRE in the correct context.
14:08 "Here's The Thing".
Right on cue. Thank you.
As always great video. Love your dedication to our wide world of music. Keep it up Finn! You're the man!
A hardocre community on Reddit. They can't cancel a show without breaking down in tears, let alone cancelling Nik lmao
One time I got banned from Reddit for asking “how is Joe rogan a Nazi”
If Reddit is against you, it just means you’re a normal person with normal views
True
No way this title is true. Reddit is always a positive community who loves everyone. 😑
No one here is going to mention the fact he was on Jared dines musicians mansion and wrote a hardcore with a sick massive breakdown in the band Greystone in only 5 hours?
It was probably 1995 I saw Sworn Enemy in NYC at a Coney Island High. NEVER seen a whole club go absolutely nuts like they did for them. Every single person.
7:33 Nik's confusion NEEDS to be a gif on my phone like NOW😂😂
the way he says it's the breakdown playlist reminds me of the way people said it's the catalina wine mixer off step brothers
'here's the thing' reoccurring is always a chuckle.
It’s art
I remember there was a big controversy regarding their Phonk playlist not too long ago, too...
Bad Blood is Scott Vogel’s new buffalo hardcore band! Which is cool cuz im from buff and saw them a few times and theyre great! As well as Exhibition 😅
Why'd you change the video title?
Nic should start introducing himself as the Anthony Fantano of deathcore. would look good on a t shirt.
Also need that hell yeah brother on a hoodie
I always thought 'HARDCORE PUNK' was like The Casualties and other crusty dudes...just me?
Anyone get an ad on this video they was a song with the chorus "tearing me down" and the dudes jamming out in an old abandoned jail?
Wasn't watching on my phone, but I liked the song and I wanna find it
The end about molotovs got you put on another government list
Thought I was the only one looking at Spotify-made playlists like “what the hell is this?!”
I am so over breakdowns so i might actually check out this playlist lol
I refuse to go into any music sub reddit. People take things way to personal.
From what I've noticed Spotify's playlist are randomly generated and kind of sprinkle in stuff that you already like to kind of listen to in order to ease you in which is pretty annoying if you are looking for a specific genre. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to listen to something super heavy and bands like DRUG CHURCH or Viagra Boys show up. It's whatever AI they have just blending genres regardless if you want it or not.
Ok if Reddit hates it I must sub.
Also this guy is funny. I thought I was subbed already.
When is not?
Gotta love people who “hate” you so much, that they dedicate a whole page about how much they -love- despise you
What’s pitchfork?
Hey, I like that pitchfork-core stuff! But you and Nic are dead-on. That should be called the breakdown poseur playlist. Put some Terror or Earth Crisis on that mess!
The best breakdown is obviously Brace Legs by Born of Osiris
Right on bro!!! Hardcore keyboard balls, soft hands. My heart goes out to all the frail NPCs that dwell in the sub-reddits of internet butt-hurt purgatory, RIP😢😢😢
PLEASE! make your own list! Be awesome. Both of you. Definitely listen!
Granted, I'm new to modern metalcore, so I had no clue breakdowns came from hardcore originally, but when someone says "breakdown" I expect a metalcore breakdown, and I watched this video, and barely got my itch scratched because none of it was close. I had Nik's expectations. At the end of the day, Reddit will always be Reddit.
EDIT: Also, your comment about Nik being the most influential person in metal is true for me personally, I got back into metal/metalcore at the end of 2022, and it was through his reactions.
Breakdowns originated with music, mostly Jazz.
Spotify doesn't even know what a breakdown is. I think they really think it's just a new genre of metal. WTF.
I voted for you at the Nik nocturnal awards. You guys are both legends in my book!
Im gonna breakdown... crying
Nik has a great online personality. I wish he was my best friend.
Does fin like misery signals? Always curious
Tbh I got into metalcore from the trustkill bands and loved that Era and even every Era even risecore. I say this because im not really into hardcore. However I also hate how these hipster pitchfork guys try to rewrite what hardcore is about by separating hardcore to hardcore "punk". Like during the trustkill Era there was a bunch of what they'd consider the bad hardcore bordering on metalcore but it sounded amazing and I loved it. I'll always align more to hardcore vs what they call hardcore punk because hardcore punk to me is just people being hipsters calling everything frat this and mainstream that when they weren't even in the scenes to begin with and their opinion is null.
Love the video broski.
Exactly
I spit my drink out when you mentioned dashboard confessional again. Shit gets me every fucking time 😂
The fact that reddit rages about Finn and Nik, yet they're still the two biggest metal youtubers as far as I know, shows that people being loud about something on the internet doesn't mean it actually matters
"Where's the breakdown?"
Great merch idea
This
@@Ruthlesshauser take my money already finn
folding the slice is proper og technique, never had it any other way -- is there even another way to hold/eat a slice?
I saw Nik’s video earlier and it was great. All those songs should either have wildly heavy or EXTREMELY historic breakdowns and Nik’s video, isn’t wrong!
Bad Blood is awesome, it's Scott from Terror's new band.
I’m convinced Bryan Stars wrote that article about Finn
Finn really hit him with a "I'm not reading all that" sigma af
I mean they at least had Jesus piece, mugshot, year of the knife, candy, sunami, and never ending game. There’s a handful of other bands on the playlist that go pretty hard but I feel like this playlist should have been for deathcore kids because that’s what would be expected based on the title lol
Tickets to shows need to include breakdown insurance - I'm never looking to file a claim but I will if I have to. :)
I add this playlist to mines after watching this vid 👍
I want Spotify to allow us to add info/details on songs we add to our playlists. I do themes and stuff.
Dude, the title of the Reddit post lied. "Surprised it's mainly hardcore." No, THERE'S NO FUCKING BREAKDOWNS ON A BREAKDOWNS PLAYLIST!!!
Nik's video was already funny and you made it so much funnier hahaha
