- In this I share the three train related gifts I received for Christmas. I received a Lionel Legacy Union Pacific F7 ABA set, a Lionel Rock Island Hobo Sound Box Car, and a Menards United States Marines Gondola Car. After a brief review of each item, I run the train for fun. The F7 B-unit is a "Bass" unit which compliments the overall sound of the ABA set. Bill B.
Exceptional use of a relatively smaller space with 036ish space..well thought out photography and track design gary
Hey, Gary, thank you for your thoughtful comment. I enjoy the design a lot. When designing the railroad there were a number of things I wanted. I wanted to run scale equipment but yet be able to have an interesting track arrangement. I wanted a small town, some elevated trackage, a couple of tunnels and bridges, a small yard, and at least one reverse loop. Ultimately l was able to have two reverse loops thanks to a friend who suggested how it could be done. And finally, I wanted to have room to add some interesting scenery. It is a lot in like you say a relatively small space. The compromise I made was the use of O36 curves. They are tight, but I am okay with that. Thank you again. Bill
Congratulation om your new diesel set. They look great on tour layout.
Thanks, Nick! It is my first set of Lionel F7's and it is very nice. I especially like the Super Bass B Unit because it really does enhance the sounds of the locomotive. Highly recommended. Bill
Bill, Semper Fi …… US Army Vietnam Era Retired Welcome Home ! Enough of that ! Excellent video, I’ve actually purchased this same Union Pacific AA with SB “B” unit Been in the train room for 2 months but today,is the day ! I’ll be subscribed & Watching, Excellent Job !
Retired Veteran, thank you for your, enjoyable comment! Yes, Semper Fi! Vietnam Era veteran here as well. I appreciate your subscribing to the channel as well. Much appreciated. Stay tuned as I hope to have the railroad up and going again in the next couple of weeks. That is the plan anyway. It has been down for sometime due to work on the railroad. I’m ready to start running trains again!!! Bill
Thanks for sharing your additions Bill! Cam sure enjoyed those F-units! Beautiful pieces, that hobo car is neat with the sound! Take care!
Hi, Lehigh River Subdivision, thank you for watching the video and for your comment. The F7's really are nice and I love the Hobo Sounds Box Car. You take care as well. Bill
Boy mr B you were a good boy this year to score that bounty! Hey enjoyed watching “ train friend “
Good morning, Scotty, thank you for watching the video and for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I stayed out of trouble this year and it paid off, lol. Take care and Happy New Years! Bill
Those were great Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing.
Hi James, thank you! Yes, I am fortunate to be so lucky. I have really been enjoying all of them. Thank you for watching the video and for the comment. Bill
Santa was good to you! Congrats! Layout is looking good. Happy New Year!
Good morning, Sean! Thank you for stopping by and watching the video. I very much appreciate your kind comment! Yes, I am a lucky guy. After my next video I am going to take some time to really focus on getting more work done on the railroad. Your railroad is looking great and is such an inspiration! Hoping you have a wonderful new year! Bill
Those engines run great and sound great. They look nice going over your new bridge. I like the loads you have in the gondolas.
Hi, Chris, good evening! Lionel did a great job with their F7's. I really do love the Super Bass unit. I don't feel like my video really did the sounds justice as the Super Bass unit really adds to the overall sound of the set. Thanks, Chris, for the comment about the new bridge. It took me a while to get it all put together and in place. I bought the loads from a seller on eBay. He makes all kinds of loads at a pretty reasonable price, I think. Take care, Chris! Bill
Bill I really enjoy your videos. So natural and easygoing to watch. Happy New Year
Good morning, Mikey! I must say your comment was a great one to wake up to this morning. I am glad you enjoy my videos. I'm not a natural when it comes to being in front of the camera and for whatever reason some videos are easier than others. After 50 videos I am starting to get the hang of it, with the emphasis on "starting," lol. Thank you for watching and for your comment. Much appreciated. Have a safe and happy New Year! Bill
Very nice Bill. Happy New Year!
James, thank you! I appreciate your watching the video and commenting! Happy New Year to you too! Bill
Hey Bill. Very nice Christmas haul. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Scott, good evening! Yep, I was pretty lucky this year. I think Santa must like me. This was a fun video to make as I really enjoyed running the F7 set and listening to the hobo box car. The little U.S. Marines gondola tagged on to the back of the train was fun too. Happy New Year! Bill
Thank you Bill for your service sir! Seeing those UP F units made me very jealous! As a former UP conductor, I could only imagine climbing into the cab of the E units they still have and conducting.
Thank you, WIPEOUT Trains! The Marines were both good to me and for me although I did not always recognize it at the time. When I read that you had been a UP conductor, I said, Wow! Very cool. Not many get the opportunity to experience railroading like you did. Very nice, indeed! Bill
Fantastic engines Bill!! Those UP units are awesome, and your story telling and creativity always amazes me. Keep up the awesome work, and Happy New Year~!!
Hey, Johnny, thank you for the kind words. After 50 videos I still don't feel all that comfortable about being in front of the camera, but I am learning. This was a particularly fun video to do. I really enjoyed running the new F7's, my first F7 set. Thank you again and did you see my recent video about the Burlington F3's? If not, check it out, I do my best to give M&M O Scale Trains a shoutout. Bill B.
PS: Tell the Mrs nice choice on the Marine Gondola !
Will do. It was a fun gift and a nice little car. Bill
Santa was real good to you this year Bill - congrats!
Hi, Ed and Bettina Berg, thank you for watching my video. Yes, I am a real lucky guy, Santa was very good to me. Thank you! Bill
Hey Bill! I see you were on Santa's nice list and he brought you several very nice gifts for the OM&S! That set of Union Pacific F7's are beautiful! Be careful not to let those hobos hijack the train. We wouldn't want any collisions. Thank you for your service and thank you for sharing all the goodies Santa brought you! Hope you and your family all have a safe and happy 2023! Take care! ~ Ricky
Hi Ricky, good morning! Yes, Santa was good to me for sure. The UP set of F7's looks so classic, that was my pick. There were some other paint schemes that I really liked as well but the UP set fit with the OM&S better than the others. I really like that Lionel made them such that I can use the Super Bass B unit as well on my O36 curves. I think you are right I'll have to keep my eye on those hobos from here on out. By in large I enjoyed my time in the Marines. My time in the Corps helped me to grow up and mature, yet I'm still a kid at heart particularly when it comes to my trains. I hope you and yours also have a safe and happy 2023! Take care. Bill
Nice Christmas haul, Bill! Hope the two of you have a Happy & Prosperous New Year! T4
Yes, I am a very lucky fellow. You too, T4, I hope your new year will be both happy and prosperous! Are you making any progress on your railroad this holiday season? Bill
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway Well, that's an interesting story. With all the minus zero temps here, the heater from the train room ended up under the house thawing out the crawl space and frozen pipes. Fortunately no pipes broke, so now that the weather had abated, momentarily anyway, I am getting a brand new heater for the train room as I think it would be wise to leave the other one in place and at the ready (we have heated pipe wraps, but they proved to not be enough last week). The short of it is... I haven't done much, but with the holidays over, I have already been doing some cleanup and organization in the train room to get going in January! T4
@@tinytowntrainstv Great, that you all did not have any broken pipes and great that you are making arrangements to get busy on the railroad. Me too, I have one more video I want to get out about my little Missouri Pacific Atlantic and then I am going to focus on working on the layout also. Bill
I have the Ann Arbor Hobo Sounds car on pre-order. I can't wait!!!!! I also purchased the A-B-A Soo Line F-units, also with the SuperBass. What a sound system!!!!!!!!
Hi, Tesch Valley RailRoad! I don't believe you will be disappointed with the Hobo Sound Box Car. It is a real fun car to have on the railroad. Lionel's F7 locomotive sets are wonderful, and I really love the Super Bass B-unit. Those Soo Line F7's are really sharp. Bill
Love that UP set Bill. Thanks for sharing with us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks, Jason! The video was fun to make. The F7 set, my first, is very nice indeed, but the Hobo Car is really a blast. It's my favorite of the sound cars I have. I have one more video that I hope to put out in the next week and then I am going to focus on getting some work done on the railroad. Thank you for taking the time to comment, Jason, as I know you are very busy. Happy New Year to you and yours. Bill
Pretty sweet looking layout. I really like the elevated lines and the mountains!
Thank you, John, much appreciate the comment about the layout. It is coming along. I have one more video I want to do and then I am going to turn my focus on the railroad layout for a bit. Want to complete the wall around the upper level and continue adding scenery on the mountains. I also have a building lined up to work on. Stay tuned. I hope you will. Thanks again. Bill
Tough looking f units, Bill! Very nice.
Hey, Joey's Trains, thank you! Lionel really did a nice job with these F7 sets. They are a lot of fun to run, and they look great! Thanks for checking out my video! Bill
Those F7's are beautiful and left me speechless! Santa was very good to you! I also noticed some new retaining walls along the elevated portion of your layout, great progress! Have a healthy and prosperous New Year Bill!
Hi, Darin, Happy New Year! Yep, they are awesome. My first F7’s I believe, certainly on the OM&S. It was a great Christmas. I hope yours was as well. Thank you for checking out the video and for your kind comment about the progress. Take care! Bill B.
Beautiful Set Bill.! 👍They really look great in the UP paint scheme.! The little HoBo intro was really creative and what a cool car that is.! The layout is really looking sharp.! I thought that was a close call at the RR crossing but then realised it was planned. I have the Marine Corps Gondola as well.! I have a train car for every branch of service because Freedom is NOT Free.! Thank you for your Service to our Great Country.! BIG 👍Mark
Good evening, Mark. thank you! Lionel did a great job on their F7's and I chose the UP version because it seemed so classic and because I see the UP lines when I travel not far from home. Personally, I am not a real big military train guy, but I do enjoy seeing some of the military trains that folks put together. I just have never seen many real military trains. I do enjoy having the USMC car and will start to look for a little more realistic load for it, perhaps some tarped crates. Thank you again, Mark for your continued support. Bill
WOW! Santy Claus must really like you. Very nice additions to the layout Bill. I’m jealous!!!
Hi Blake, yep, I have to agree, I was pretty lucky. This is my first set of F7's so I really am enjoying them. I tell myself all the time that I am a pretty lucky guy to have the OM&S and people who appreciate it. Bill
Semper Fi! Bill B and love your videos
Semper Fi, Southern Yankee's Trains! Thank you for watching my videos and for being a subscriber! I'm real glad you like my videos. I'm learning as I go. Thank you and take care. Bill
An F7 will be my next purchase....someday ! I'm a big fan of the MARS light....got to have one. An enjoyable film Bill...thank you ! Happy New Year to you and your family. 🎉🎊
Hi, James, I do not believe you will be disappointed in Lionel's new F7. No rush, I'm 69 and this is my first set of F7's for the OM&S. F7's are kind of a staple in model railroading. I am not sure what took me so long, but that is okay too. The MARS light is pretty cool I must agree. I'm very pleased you enjoyed the video. Happy New Year to you and yours! Bill
@@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway Bill...I'm 72 ! It's still good to hear that the younger kids like us keep the trains rolling ! 🤣🤣✌
@@jamesmelchin2873 Yep, "Though I've grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.” Still a kid at heart, I guess. Thank you, James! Bill
Happy New Year Bill, and to your wife! Looks like you were a good boy this year. Santa brought you some really great items! I would like to get that hobo boxcar. I have a bunch of hobo items myself that I’ve collected over the years starting with with the Postwar #3444 Animated Gondola Car and the #3357 Cop and Hobo boxcar. It just grew from there, and now I would love to purchase that boxcar. I’m just not sure what road name I would like. I understand Lionel is coming out with another set of road names. Maybe one of those will spark my interest as well. I hope you have a wonderful new year ahead, and I look forward to more of your videos! Regards, Tom
Hi, Tom, thank you and Happy New year to you and yours. I guess I must have been pretty good as Santa was certainly good to me. I am a pretty lucky guy! I think you would enjoy the Hobo Sound Box Car. I certainly have been enjoying mine on the OM&S. Those Post War hobo cars are pretty neat. You are right, Lionel is offering the Hobo Sound Box Car in an additional four road names. If you go to www.lionelstore.com/online-catalog and look in the 2022 Volume II Catalog, you can see them. Thanks again, Tom! Bill
Dang, Bill, those F7's are beautiful. Congrats on all yer new pieces! Marines huh? Didn't they celebrate some type of birthday last month? 🤔Getting close to 250 years, OORAH!
Hey, Clyde, thank you! Yes, November 10th was the Marine Corps 247th Birthday. Yep, once a Marine, always a Marine. It's just the way it is, Oorah! The F7's really are wonderful. Lionel did a great job on them. The Hobo Sound Box Car is pretty special as well. Thanks for watching the video and for your very nice comment! Happy New Year! Bill
I really enjoyed your video! I was thinking. Don’t he know that train car box is empty? LOL! PGH train fanatic also did a video the other day with the same hobo car.
Hi, The Rose Jewel Railroad, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Well, the car was in the box when I set it down to do the video, lol. I really do like the Hobo Sound Box Car. Yes, I saw PGH Train Fanatic's video about the car. His was good, but I liked mine better, lol. His was the Erie car and mine was the Rock Island car, big difference. Thank you for watching the video and for your comment, it made me chuckle and I chuckled again while writing this reply. Bill
Congrats Bill - what a great collection of Christmas gifts. Happy New Year to you and your family! Superbass units are addicting so just a word of warning :)
Thank you, Matt! Yes, I understand about those SuperBass unit. I really like them and Lionel's sound cars! I love the Hobo Sound Box Car. Just sitting on the track those little hobos just chat away and play that harmonica. Happy New Year to you and yours, Matt! Bill PS Have you watched the video before this one about the F3's? I say a few words about the M&M discord server and podcast.
Well I have the older passenger set of the Union Pacific always like those .maybe because was my first set as a kid.
Cool, Christ's O Gauge Trains! Very neat indeed! A good set of UP passenger cars, especially the MTH 60 footers are kind of hard to find or so it seems. Thank you for your comment! Bill B
That UP caboose looks very similar to a Right of Way UP caboose but it’s brass. Like the hobo boxcar.
Hi Hunter, I’ve not seen the Right of Way model, but will see if I can look it up. Lionel identifies it as a C4 version. The hobo car is pretty cool. The grandkids certainly liked it. Honestly, I like all of the different Tailsounds box cars.
Very well done close up shots, bill. What makes that clicky clack rail sound? Gary
Hi, The Trainboard, thank you. I appreciate the comment. I like to shoot my running videos with the camera up close to the trains so as heighten the realism. The sound you are referring to comes from one of my Lionel RailSounds box cars coupled within the train itself. I really like the added sounds it provides. You can turn the sound off if one wants too by a switch on the bottom of the car. Bill
