Had my LS400 seven years and 204.000 miles of total reliability and sheer driving pleasure. Had my LS460 six months. It was terrible to drive in comparison. Fantastic channel.
One of the hardest things to do is hire help when you think you're close. I can tell you from experience (I'm 52) that paying for help is the smartest thing to do because you don't know how far you are from correctly diagnosing and correcting issues like this. The suggestion of working with a certified Lexus tech to help get you to the finish line is a GREAT idea.
It's a direct injection engine, so check the condition of the intake valves. Could be carbon buildup issue. Check for leaks in intake and exhaust. Check the corrections (fuel trims).
I love the channel. I've watched since the beginning. I've owned 5 Lexus'. The years the LS has this body style are known as the least reliable and hardest to work on. I think you'd love a GS. The 07-11 are more comfortable but are actually faster 0-60 then the newer GS'. 13-20 takes turns better. Of course looks are subjective.
I wouldn't let go of it but I will say that you may need to get the engine really looked at the right way cuz it could be something worse than all the stuff you're calling out maybe something with the Pistons or something if it's leaking so much. I don't know if you've heard of Dave's Auto center he's in Utah but give that guy a call he's in engine machine shop guy one of the best guys look him up and give him a call he would give you a good directions on where to go next for it.
Check for compression, if the engine compression is good enough then your injectors are really bad. I changed my port and direct injectors when I started having these issues on my IS350.
Thanks for the suggestion! I swapped out the injectors on the driver side with some in better shape and the car runs and drives great now! I’ll be making a video update soon
I think you made a mistake buying used parts, I gotta feeling that's the problem , I know it cost more to buy them brand new but tearing the engine apart and spending all that time on it I think it's worth putting new parts in it ... I hope I don't see these problems with my 2015 LS in the future . Just curious , what type of oil do you put in your car ? I know it's 0w-20 synthetic but what brand do you think is best ?
Save all the original parts... Stop throwing the "parts cannon" at it. Bring it to Ivan (Pine Hollow Diagnostics in PA)... He's a pro and a fellow UA-camr like yourself. Ivan can fix it!! It needs a deep dive into what's going on.
Except for the valley plate leak, which lexus acknowledged they used the wrong glue, these failures are self inflicted due to mistakes in yours work. Not knocking you at all, you live and learn. Just stating the facts.👍
unfortunately as you get more and more into these newer Lexus', like most cars only certified techs can figure out and work on it. too many of these more modern cars are locked behind ecu computers and dealer techs.
damn been waiting weeks for a (hopeful positive) update - sucks to hear this, hopefully once all is addressed, its good to go - do you mind sharing how much youve invested so far?
I just think you need a better diag plan. Need a better scanner, you haven't look at data Monitor or even misfire count. Camera the cylinder and so on, check for service bulletins,
I do have live data on this scanner which is nice, it can do alot. I found a broken teflon seal on the injector on cylinder 5 so this may be the culprit! Which makes sense now
Yup that’s what I’m leaning towards. Injector on cylinder 5 is out now and spraying a less than ideal pattern upon testing. Broken seal on the sleeve as well. Going to replace it with a better condition injector
Can you share your live data at operating temperature. I am not sure you are working with live data. You are going with codes which is wrong. I had cylinder 2 misfire on my car for a long time. What I did was to pull the throttle body wash it with 2000 grip sandpaper, changed the air filter and fuel housing filter. Again change the injectors and see what happened
w some things u can fix cause they easy maintenance stuff but w stuff like this its just easier to take it to the brand shop. at least there u get a warranty if they mess something up
Marty. Bro. Stop throwing parts at it. Remove plugs. Stick a camera probe inside cylinder 5 and 6. Put pressure to coolant system with coolant pressure tester. Leave it overnight. Come back in the morning. Check for coolant inside cylinders with scope. Unlike the 2UZ. This is a aluminium block and is very prone to warping if overheated. Lots of people when they have that oil cooler leak that you resealed underneath the intake manifold let the engine engine run low on coolant causing overheating issues . If you still can’t figure it out, let me know and I’ll take it off your hands. Cash offer.
Good idea! Might have to try that just to be sure. I had a very planned out method of replacing parts while I replaced the bad injector, and did so successfully on cylinder 6 - but now something is definitely wrong with the injector on cylinder 5. The valley plate wasn’t actually leaking, but I resealed it anyway while I was in there. Coolant pressure tested great and cylinders are decently clean when using my boroscope. Luckily the engine has no signs of overheating, and the rough idle and misfire is most likely a bad injector or o ring. I have an injector tested now to test my theory so I should be diving in again soon. 👍🏼
@@MartyMotoring Leave the coolant pressure tested connected overnight. It takes sometimes 8-12 hours for a bad head gasket to seep coolant into cylinders. Also if cylinder 5 or 6 are “ cleaner then the others that’s a good sign also that you have coolant cleaning your cylinders.
@@MartyMotoring how do you know something is wrong with cylinder 5 injector? What you should have done is removed all 8 injectors and had a local marine shop clean them ultrasonically and replace the basket filters. It’s VERY unlikely for these injectors to go bad. Clogged yes. But not total failure.
You have bad injectors...its smokes likely black smoke, one way to fully determine its your injectirs is disconnect the A/f sensors on both banks and turn it on, it'll still run rough but will be a whole lot driveable...it somokes because the ecu is compensating alot for some defective injectors...check your Long term fuel trim it should be in the high negatives or high positives... Replace all injectoes, replace the AF sensors on noth banks then you're golden. I'm based in Nigeria. Yep black smoke at idle is def bad injectors... you've done everything right that's why I'm sure its bad injectors... Replace cy5 injector with one from the former set you removed...
I will check that and also believe that cylinder 5 injector is bad. I got an injector tester on the way and will hopefully film that process of diagnosis!
I did take it to them initially and they quoted $8,000 after I just got the car for $14k. That's too much and I've learned so much along the way. :) I'd be over the value (currently $13k-15k) if I took it to them
Just an injector issue that I’ll figure out eventually! Unfortunately I can’t let it go broken, I have a small loan on it. So gotta fix it and go from there. I probably will end up selling it once everything is fixed so the future owner can have peace of mind
I know you do these vids on the side and have other expenses and don’t do vids as much but what!!!! You sold the sequoia!! No more Toyota/lexus?! What did I miss? Do you still have the vibe?!
