- The Super Mario Bros. Movie has finally been released in theaters, and I really enjoyed it! So here are my spoiler-filled thoughts on the movie as a whole. It definitely has a few flaws, but I had a smile on my face during the entire film. Pretty amazing that we're starting to see full on Nintendo movies be made. Thanks for Watching!

I personally think that this movie was phenomenal. While obviously made for kids with the easy story to follow, it was a love letter to Mario/Nintendo fans with all the references and easter eggs they put in this movie.
Chris Pratt’s voice didn’t even bug me and in general, I loved this movie a lot more than I thought I would. I’m already looking forward to what they do next with Nintendo movies
In the latin american spanish dub, they got Charles Martinet to dub his cameo himself. As Mario's dad was dubbed by the same guy who voiced Mario in the 1993 movie. Just amazing

I feel like the perfect word to describe this movie is fun. Its not a absolute masterpiece but its a fun movie and isn't being fun what mario games are all about.
Yeah i agree with your thoughts for the movie, i think putting pop songs in the movie was weird for sure, but the movie was so fun to watch with the cameos, and the mario kart action sequence was my personal favorite scene!

Your thoughts match up perfectly with mine. I don’t mind how illumination makes animated movies, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see them as problems. It really is just preference and what you’re in the mood for, and that being wholly negative abt this movie is kinda uncalled for! It’s spectacle is its best feature, for sure
Just came back from the theatre, such a good movie!! I love all the little secrets. For example, Luigi had his phone ringtone set to the GameCube startup jingle! I love those kind of easter eggs!
I 100% AGREE about the use of licensed music for the movie, it was so jarring to hear pop music in the world of the mushroom kingdom, it made zero sense to have Take On Me playing during the scene of them cruising around the Jungle Kingdom.
You're gonna be even more upset when you realize that the training montage and the Kong kingdom scene DID have original pieces of orchestral music but were replaced last minute for the pop songs. Very frustrating. Still loved the film though!
I loved the film but yeah the music choices were very random and out of place. I wish they would use something like slider from sm64 or something in it
This movie is a celebration of Mario and how far he has come over the last 42 years. It's clear that Mario isn't just the face of Nintendo, he's the undisputed face of the Video Gaming Industry!
The pop music didn't bother me that much but I really don't get why studios do it still. I understand if it really fits the scene but it feels like they're doing it just so people go "Hey! I know that song!" I also know the licensing music is pricey but I'm not sure if that'd be more expensive than just using new compositions or in the case of the mario movie new remixes
With the success of the new Mario movie, I wonder if we'll be getting any Legend of Zelda or Kirby media in the near future

this movie was great and i had a lot of fun, but i feel like the mark they missed the most was that bowser was barely evil and there didn't seem to be much real motivation. yeah he did a couple bad things to get that star (why did the penguin people have the only one btw?) but his only motivation was to be with peach and not just to rule the world? it seemed like there was no real plot, like if peach said no he would just destroy everything else in anger? and the reason he captured and tortured luigi and wanted to get rid of mario was because he might steal peach from him? idk it just seemed weird the route they went with. and again i still really liked this movie, the references were cool and just the idea of mario being on the big screen (in an actually good movie) is cool in itself, just a lot of it didn't really make sense to me
Considering the limitations Illumination gave you with footage, it's incredible how you used game footage in creative ways to get around it! I hope me subscribing will show my joy of your style!
I watched this movie with my boyfriend yesterday! I expected it to be okay, but I was pleasantly surprised. Chris Pratt as Mario felt way less annoying than it did in the trailers - by the end I didn't even think about it. The visuals were of course stunning, the music from the games was wonderful, and the humour felt surprisingly unforced and was genuinely funny. I was entertained! My two biggest issues were, like you said, the odd popular music thrown into there, and then the fact that Mario calls Luigi 'Lu'. When has that ever happened in the games? 🤔 It's not like Luigi calls Mario 'Mar' either. They should've stuck with Mario exclusively calling Luigi 'Luigi'.
I think you mean Lou as a reference to Lou Albano, Mario’s actor from the TV show.

the movie was excellent, i personally loved it when me and my family went to go see it in theaters yesterday. But I just kept dead-a-- laughing and wheezing when Bowser started singing about Peach or smth 💀💀💀💀
I just watched it today. It was pretty good. I do agree that the licensed songs took me out of it. Like the only DK song they used was the fucking DK64 Rap. I would of loved to have heard the main theme, Simian Segue, or Stickerbush. But hey, no fart jokes in an Illumination picture, which is a major plus. I think they'll a do another super mario movie focusing on Yoshi. Hopefully 10 years down the line we can get a Super Smash Bros. Brawl Sub Space Emissary Avengers Endgame style movie where everyone comes together.

Illumination might be one of the few companies that enforce copyright stricter than Nintendo does
