The TH20 for me but the 1887 was a beast of a movement, great watches on the used markets too! Think the performance absolutely smashed it, looked brilliant and without the controversy it was a great heart to any Carrera

The Carerra Monaco Grand Prix (Titanium) Limited edition (CAR2A83.FT6033) was an immediate must have watch for me in 2014-2015 when it released.
At the time used prices were around $6,000. Then the controversy came out about their in-house movement being derived from a Seiko movement.
I have a variety of watches, Seiko's Rolexes, etc. but around that time the term in-house was starting to boom, and the pricing and value of the watch increased if it had an in-house movement versus a seilta, eta, etc.
So there was my issue, Tag was charging in-house movement pricing for something that wasn't, per say.
So the past 10 years, I've been watching this watch slowly go down in value, waiting for it to hit a price point where I was comfortable paying for it. $1900.00.....box and papers, from Chrono24, sounds fair!
So congratulations to me! I was patient, and I waited, and finally procured the 1st watch that really had me like wow!

Thanks for your insightful review. For myself, I enjoy the TAG/Seiko collaboration and the 1887 is indeed a special watch! Cheers and blessings

My wife bought me one new back in the day. White dial with a great bracelet. It was on clearance because of the "scandal", which is the only way we could have ever afforded one back then. I think it's beautiful and it's still my favorite watch. Knowing the watch snobs hate it makes me enjoy wearing it that much more.

Uff must've been a steal back in the "scandal" days! Yeah i love how against the grain it goes, but IMO it really is one of those watches that you need to look past the optics or image of it to see that it's objectively a good watch - especially for what these pre-owned ones go for these days.

This is a great movement. I've been wearing a 2017 Carrera Heuer 01 (non-skeleton dial), which has a slightly modded 1887. It's a great looking, fairly accurate timepiece. As a car fan I enjoy wearing it with a leather jacket when driving my sports coupe / sporty sedan.

Nice! I'm also a big car & F1 fan so I'm actually zeroing in on a Carrera for myself to refelct that. Great minds think alike ;)

So tag bought a Lexus from Japan, changed the wheels and rear view mirrors and claimed it created the whole thing.... That's not difficult to understand.

Its quite a interesting watch in my opinion. One of the few swiss watches ever made with a seiko magic lever winding system. Transparency is key

For sure, I think had it been more transparently communicated it could have been an easy win for Tag (like Pagani being transparent about using an AMG Engine) - but in the end things worked out as it forced them to roll out the Heuer 02 which is now the TH20 and still offering great value AND on preowned these 1887 Carreras are a steal

I remember this, back when it happened. Seiko and Tag Heuer should have made this movement together, in Switzerland, and shared it in chrono models. Same like how Tudor and Breitling share movements. It could have been a great collaboration. Instead, Tag Heuer handled it all wrong. Took them many years to recover from it. With that said, there is nothing wrong with a Seiko movement. The problem is lying and deceiving customers.

Completely agree, I think there was a really good marketing spin they could have put on it that would have highlighted the advantages of the movement AND its origins. But for better or for worse it turned out ok because the scandal forced them to restart the CH-80 project and that turned out well :)

Interesting. What do you think of grand carerra

In general I like the approach they took with changing the display to the rotating rings to look more like guages vs the regular subdials, though (as far as I understand) mechanically this wasn't a huge departure from the normal Calibre 17 (ETA 2892+DD Module) or Calibre 36 (El Primero 400) for the Grand Carreras, though I'm still curious to see what they're like in hand. Hoping to get my hands on one in the near future so I can maybe do a video on that too :)
