    Weird comparison, considering that's a very old Carrera .. we now have the last of Heuer01 and the new in house Heuer02 - true in house. Poor review here.

      Yeah but the whole point is the 1887 was and is the steal, the 'controversy' over the movements origins has made it a great used buy and the 1887(which is so similar to the H01) has one of the prettiest display backs for its price range too! the Cali.16 would've been a good shout here too as a classic and well tested movement but I'm glad to see that they did pit in-house against in-house

    Pity you didn't mention the Heuer Monaco for comparison, and of course the Speedmaster was originally a race timer, though that's a whole topic in itself

    Where does the Carrera with the Calibre 16 movement fit into the story? It seems like Tag Heuer have been creating Carreras for 10-15 years with both movements?

    • @scdevon

      I have a 2011 Cal. 16 Carrera. Very solid movement and the 7750 is a proven design. Highly reliable and accurate.

      Caliber 16 is basically an ETA/Valjoux 7750. I have one from 2007. Lovely watch and a fantastic, robust movement. I think some of the newer Caliber 16 uses the Sellita SW500 which is basically a 7750. Sellita makes the same quality movements as ETA.

    • @scdevon
      @scdevon 2 роки тому +1

      @@PersonaN007Grata - I would still prefer an ETA all things being equal. It's still hard for me to get used to the name "Sellita" under the hood. It sounds like the name of a Chinese vacuum cleaner and ETA has a rich heritage. I hear great things about the Sellita movements, though.

    • @PersonaN007Grata
      @PersonaN007Grata 2 роки тому +1

      @@scdevon I totally understand. I’ve done some research on ETA’s relationship with Sellita and it seems that Sellita was just considered factory number 2. Many ETA movements had parts made by Sellita and we never knew it. Apparently Sellita’s build quality was indistinguishable from ETA and internally they were considered the same company for all intents and purposes.

      I am a fan of the Carrera and the Valjoux 7750 so I bought the Carrera Calibre 16. It's a great daily wearer. Design and aesthetic wise, it's one of the best watches going.

      @@keenan909 It’s all about preference. My 1st Swiss watch was a Tag SEL Chronometer which I still own and love. I have spent more money servicing it than it cost me lol but I’ll never get rid of it. But also, one has to be frugal (for lack of a better word) about their purchases. I’ll definitely pick up a Heuer if I can find them for a good price. I won’t pay retail for Omegas, Tags (or any other watch in that league). I also won’t pay 2nd market Rolex prices. I did break my rule and picked up a Zenith Chronomaster from an authorized dealer a couple of years ago and paid full retail because to service those is outrageous - I wanted the security of getting a legit, non-canabilized Zenith and a factory warranty. I’ve purchased from JomaShit and the savings wasn’t worth it because the watch broke within the year and I ended up sending it to the brand’s service center for a proper service. This happened twice, 2 different watch brands. So it’s tricky sourcing a good deal and getting what you’re supposed to. There are a lot of shady things that goes on in the watch resale arena.
      Back to my point, my Rolexes, are worth more now than when I bought them. I can’t say that for any other of my Swiss watches so if given the choice of a Tag or Rolex, it’s a no brainer to me. But don’t confuse that for meaning I buy them as investments. I just don’t want to piss my money away :-). But I’m on the list for the new Chronomaster Sport, love it! And for all those saying it’s a homage to the Daytona , just don’t know Zenith’s heritage.

  • @bespincustompropsbombarta8300

    Urm didn't Heuer invent the chronograph for aeroplanes and rally cars!
    Out of the 2 the Heuer is truer to a racing chronograph with its larger dial making it easier to read and use, the Rolex is far too cluttered and more for bragging rights down the golf club or getting mugged in London 😂

  • @cmiller7299
    @cmiller7299 4 роки тому +4

    Modern rolexes just look pudgy to me. Applied indices on Daytona would look better with sharp lines of original, not the rounded edge blobs they have now.
