      Sonya Obrigado pelo video
      sou Brasileiro e no Brasil temos consciência da nossa negritude temos um movimento negro muito forte porém a grande maioria ainda e muito alienada e diluida por serem mestiços e nao se verem como negros aqui o rascismo e muito forte Sou professor e como muitos irmãos estams criando um movimento forte para as nossas proximas gerações sou de São Paulo capital e aqui tambem temos o museu AFROBRASIL que conta toda a nossa historia e ancestralidade temos muitos problemas devido a falta de união poucos Artistas se assumem como negros e menos ainda lutam pelos negros mesmo sendo de pele escura o dinheiro e a acensão social faz um embranquecimento em seus cérebros O melhor exemplo e o jogador de futebol pelé que nunca defendeu a causa negra e sempre preferiu mulheres brancas
      a grande maioria dos artistas negros segue esse mal exemplo enfraquecendo ainda mais o nosso triunfo mas nao tenho duvidad que um dia chegaremos lá obrigado pelo seu video

    Stumbled upon this video when reflecting on my trip to DC in March. Went to this and the holocaust museum in the same day and was left in emotions I’ve never quite felt before. As a white man from rural Indiana visiting these two amazing museums opened my eyes a lot and it was an impactful trip all around. Thanks for capturing your visit for all of us to watch

    Had to watch for my Sociology course and I am not disappointed. Once everything opens up back to normal after Rona is over I will most definitely take my first trip to D.C in order to visit this museum. My family and I on trips to other states usually always find a place that holds history for us to check out so I can't wait!

    Thanks but, was there any information on who we were as Africans? Our history did not start here.

    • @sonyadelight9755
      @sonyadelight9755  7 років тому +41

      I agree. Unfortunately, this museum briefly mentions who we were as Africans. Most of the earlier history in this museum focuses on middle passage and slavery. I echoed some of your sentiment and also interviewed a lady who also shares your view as well. This museum is a nice tool to wet the thirst for knowledge regarding African American/ African history. I'll be traveling to West Africa later this year to Vlog some of the slave passages.

    • @LGeneticbeautyH2O
      @LGeneticbeautyH2O 7 років тому +17

      That kinda figures..There are several museums and none of them expound on the truth of our highly intelligent history as a people before being forced here. That's very important when you have people from all over the world visiting these museums.

    • @LGeneticbeautyH2O
      @LGeneticbeautyH2O 7 років тому +12

      Vlogging slave passages is ok but, dig deeper if you get the opportunity. There is so much more to us than slavery.

    Yes, the museum is excellent and most of the time, busy. It's like you can't see it all in one day...One of my favorite and most emotional parts was on the elevator. It's like traveling back in time as the elevator descend the centuries descend. And you get dropped off in the 1400's I believe. That was emotional for me!

    What a well-shot and edited video. To comment on the lovely Ms. Pullins’ message, I would encourage people to look into West African history more deeply than Egyptian history as a basis for African American roots. It is a beautiful and rich set of cultures. The Yoruba people were some of the last to be taken to the Americas and much of their vibrant cultural influence permeates Afro and Afro-Latin culture here today. As for Egypt, I think some people latch onto it because It’s harder to find information on West African civilizations, and American Eurocentric education focuses on Egypt so much. (Egyptian “royalty” was incestuous anyway, and imho, admirable beauty and power lies in the tenacity of the common people.)

      I appreciate you sharing your visit. I visit the museum once and seen the top levels but not the lower levels. I wanted see Tills casket and Parks dress. I just paid for a virtual tour and missed half of it and the part I missed highlighted the lower level. I did get a glimpse of Rosa’s dress. I was there about 1 1/2 standing outside to get a ticket then about 2 hours inside to see the upper level. I came to town with my fiancé who was sick and we got a chance to tour the White House. He told me if I got a ticket go ahead an tour and come back later. He had stage 4 lung cancer. Thank you again for sharing you trip. You are a cutie. Abundant blessings.

    Great video. Going here pretty soon but a little scared of being overwhelmed. My heart bleeds when I know what people have gone through and still going through

    My favorite part of museums is the preserving of artifacts and other tools and reading about them. Then you can envision them being used back in their time. Such as the dresses being worn and furniture in a house. Dioramas are the best!

    Do you know that white lady just insulted you by calling you cute mommies are cute not black people and had the nerve to touch the little bun your head with a smirk.

    Can't they find a way to streamline things better. It's frustrating watching people suffer in lines and crowds. All those lines and waiting make the experience at the museum suffer. All the other museums I've been too (12+ from DC to NYC) has no where near the lines and jammed crowds as this. Why's it have to be the Africa America museum that has this experience. This breaks my heart.

    • @sonyadelight9755
      @sonyadelight9755  4 роки тому +1

      I agree. I think it’s because it’s new everyone wants to go. Also it’s the only museum that focuses on actual black people. It’s unfortunate that it is the only museum of this magnitude in this country ( maybe the world 🤔) that actually delve into black history in such a way.

    I just visited DC and tried months in advance to get tickets to this museum. Can you believe the tickets are two years out. SMH There are two other options to get tickets, 2nd, the Smithsonian puts out tickets online at 6:30 am, set your alarm and if you're lucky you can get up to four I think. The third option is to get in line pretty early and stay there until it opens to the public at 1:00. So get ready to camp out. Its crazy. I didn't make it in but maybe in the future. I enjoyed DC, Baltimore, and all the other landmarks.

    Honestly, this should be a free museum. Most things in D.C. are. This of all things should be also.

      It’s free. They have the ticket system to regulate numbers in the museum.

    That's the one cardinal rule my Bajan step-grandfather taught his little white grandbabies, NEVER touch a sister's hair. You can compliment and look, but no touching.
    Of course unless you were given explicit permission to.

      if you are a vet or active duty military, fireman, police officer or first responder, you just show up with military id or dd 214 or other credentials of proof of service or occupation. you are allowed 2 guests. or you can just show up as soon as the doors open and they may let you in.

    I went here with a group (I don’t remember their name or what they actually were, it was two years ago, my apologies.) along with my brother and cousin two years ago, it was genuinely so amazing. Although I don’t remember a lot of it (horrible memory) I do remember a few things. I pray that ill be able to come back soon.
