This channel won't last long if I keep “golfing” like this, (coming over the top swing)

  • Tired. Hungry. Shanks. Please consider subscribing. I will be posting weekly my progress in golf until I start tournament golf. I'm an ex elite road cyclist and I'm taking my knowledge as an athlete to golf.
Golf is hard but at least I should be able to hit the ball when I'm tired or I can forget tournament golf. The tournaments I want to go to you get banned for a year if you shoot 15 over. So I think I need to keep repping the good swing but I may try practicing when out of energy and see if that can't get rid of this issues. I have been "rushing" the swing. I have found out the solution but it will take some work to really get it to be permanent.

I’m exactly the same with the swing. You stripe it on the range and then come over the top on the course 🍻

    Harden The triangle.
Ive had this problem exact problem and solved it.
During you back swing, your chest line and both of your hand looks like triangle. Harden them abit while taking your back swing. Make your chest follow your back swing rather than just throwing your hands back and remember your ussual tempo this is important too

I've got the same problem, cant bring it from the range,to the course .It is physiological. I'm having some success with slowing everything down and just letting the swing go, without trying to steer it at all and concentrating on no tension in the arms and hands. Good luck !

I just watched the beginning of the video again. You can deff see that my swings tempos are different too. Also i get laid off at the top and don’t finish the backswing

I have a routine for when I am playing. 5th tee eat a granola bar, at the turn eat something, and then 14th tee.
Just to stay ahead. I would rather have too much in me than get behind.
My bag always has extra snacks... Just in case.

Just my two cents you don't have to take it at all but just wanted to say that from my perspective both your warm up and on course swings have issues. Your upper torso rushes to finish the swing and I believe it stems from two things, your backswing is explosive when it doesn't have to be and you're not keeping your eye on the ball through the swing (because your shoulders are moving fast). Ontop of that, your right leg is really ridge and your are hunching over the ball (which causes more a "whacking" motion than a golf swing). You should take an "athletic" stance over the ball meaning both legs evenly bent, and with a slower back swing + keeping your eye on the ball until the swing is finished would improve your swing as a whole greatly. Jerome Rufin has a great yt channel as he too has gone through swing changes, he has range session videos with Dana Dahlquist who is a top trainer in the US, I would heavily suggest checking them out, super easy to digest and implement into your game. Have a good one man!

I enjoy people trying to help. Someone else mentioned having a rushed swing and I think they were right and I have been working on that. Not watching the ball is a bad habit that i work on but have trouble breaking. Thats interesting about the explosive backswing because it really doesn’t feel explosive at all

Don't beat yourself up. The simple answer is that you went from simply "hitting the ball" to "trying to send the ball down the fairway." Those two actions or intentions are very different. Basically, when you don't give a $#!t where the ball goes you swing confidently and freely but as soon as there's consequences then suddenly you're more concerned with preventing those consequences than you are striking the ball.

I do that same thing. 2 handicap then all of a sudden can’t hit the ball. Cant stop the over the top either. If I do it’s a shank or a huge block right. You can’t play like that. The strike is so poor if you do happen to hit it where you are looking it’s short. If you figure it out let me know. I can show you the same exact swings from my phone. Nothing like shooting over your handicap on the first hole. Luckily my short game is okay and can get me through it but it’s not fun. And it’s not fun when people say - I would be happy with and 83! Not as a 2 handicap you wouldn’t. I have shot 73 then a 93 in back to back days. Good luck

      @ianbaldwingolf  16 днів тому

Agreed. Its not fun not being able to golf. There is a drill where you stagger you right leg back to help coming from the inside. I think next time I suddenly cant golf I’m going to just start golfing with that staggered stance.
Go and read some of the other comments in regard to the mental block. I think they may be correct. But im hoping it was some over training as I have been swinging a LOT lately. But you can see the swings at home and then out golfing are different. Im getting laid off at the top and maybe not finishing the swing too and then getting rushed. Im going out tomorrow after two days off and i’ll be nicely recovered. Feeling good about it.

@@ianbaldwingolf yeah mine can come and go. I took up fishing last year to give me something else to do when it pops up. I hit more balls than anyone I know and can get a sore back not really muscle wise just aching and can’t get through it like I know I can. Doesn’t matter how hard I try I just can’t get off that back foot. Irons are okay since there is loft and it can hide some flaws but 3 wood and driver are out of the question. To me it’s almost like I can’t see it correctly. I can go to the range and hit to the left or to the right and stripe it. But hitting it down the middle of a range messes with my equilibrium or something and then I am screwed. Does that happen to you? I also lose a lot of sleep thinking about it so it’s just a vicious cycle. That’s exactly where I am now. Going fishing tomorrow

Hmm.. Well I took time off last year because I left my country club (I've only been going for 3.5-4 years). I was working really hard on the swing and not getting any better and knew I needed to just take some time off. I started fishing again, kite boarding, and cycling again. I was an Elite road cyclist and was going to race again this year but that didn't work out and still suffered from my glute issues from leg length discrepancy, (which I am now thinking could contribute to my golf swing). So I've only gotten back into golf about 2 months ago. I was right that taking time off would help me get better but the obsession does hurt though. I don't get angry anymore though because I feel like I know what I'm doing but can't stop it. After the time off and coming back it was like a lot my lessons started to click better.
Only my forearms have been really sore lately. The rest of my body does just fine. I never have back issues. I'd be curious to see your swing. How can you share it?
I do think that my swing is rushed. Ill send you a video I found that I think was excellent and I saw my tendencies in the video. I'll find it and post it to you.
I only see a straight tight fade. That's the shot I see and always try to hit. If I am really on then I hit that shot. But I really want to know why I do it and hope to catch it on video soon. I think it is a tempo issue but many other things.

Sounds like a mental blockage to me, just need to clear your mind and swing your swing. Stop over thinking it when the pressure is on.
