There’s a deaf person at the mall and I love the cookies she sells so I’m learning this just for her :) edit: I've gotten a lot of replies and so much support, and I'm happy to tell you all that I am now fluent in asl and currently learning bsl and fsl. Thank you all so much for the support, deaf people are just amazing people that I'd never miss this opportunity to learn a language to meet new, unique and friendly people. Thank you for all your support, I love you all. ^^
I'm not deaf but when I was in the 5th grade my teacher let me come early in the morning everyday so she could teach me some sign language. I loved it. the tiny bit she taught me has stuck with me all my life. I just started getting back into it tho because a deaf girl my age went to a McDonald's and was trying to order. This very rude lady was telling her to hurry up. she tried to speak but since she's deaf it was hard..I stood up from my table and walked over to her. (my parents were like "wtf, where u going??" haha) Anyways, I tapped her shoulder and signed if she needed help. Her eyes lit up and signed yes. I knew enough asl to help and get her food. That day she bought a Large fry, a 6 piece nugget, and a small drink. she hugged me and asked me what my name was. of course I told her. and she was just really happy. I ate my meal with her and we talked even tho I didn't know much asl. she went very slowly and mouthed words for me. After she was done, we parted ways and she just waved to me as I got in my car. I will never forget her, her name was Ally. I dont think being deaf is a handicap, people just need to be taught it more and realize its just the same as being born with hearing. So I vow to always give my tiny bit of asl knowledge to help. (just a lil life story I thought would make u smile, it makes me smile at least)
I'm not deaf, but my girlfriend is beginning to go deaf so we're learning sign together. My dad is fluent, so he teaches us sometimes, but these videos have really helped.
My daughter (actually both of them) are severely hearing impaired but they speak very well so most people don't believe they can't hear. So, they really don't fit in the hearing world or the deaf world. The oldest has learned to sign some and I am making it my mission to be decent by the end of this year so I can support her. I love that you are learning this for your girlfriend!
@@rachelrobles7796 hey, my deepest condolences, but please can you tell me what causes this thing, i mean how, is it in genes or does it happen naturally sometimes after youre born?
i work as a cashier in a grocery store part time after school. A deaf lady regularly comes through my till as im the only one who knows she is deaf. Lately ive been learning how to sign ASL so i can communicate with her better. Last week she came in and as i signed to her, her face just lit up with excitement and joy. It's amazing what you can do for lots of people just by giving a little bit of your spare time to learn ASL
That story made me smile, I heard you can teach infants to sign before they can speak. I want to learn to pass it on, and be able to communicate with deaf people and include them in on conversations. If there are no ASL interpreters or whatever the case may be.
Zyrex it’s a good idea to make learning sign language necessary in schools because we’d be able to communicate with deaf people and not make them feel left out. Hopefully that happens in the future
My boyfriend met a deaf man the other day walking around selling keychains. He was with his friends and the guy came up to ask if they wanted to buy. My boyfriend knows a little sign and decided to converse with him and the deaf man looked so happy that someone could finally talk to him. Because of that I want to learn sign language to so that maybe I could brighten up someone's day like he did with that man
Serously! I have never ever seen a deaf person NOT light up when someone (randomly) signs to or back to them. They are so sincerely pleased by it - maybe because it is so rare or maybe because it is always nice to be able to speak easily with a stranger.
Y'know, I had learned the sign language alphabet in school. It was a substitute teacher for English, and since we already knew the topics, she decided to teach us the alphabet. I found it fun, and a way to talk to my friends without getting caught in class. So I kept practising. Soon enough, a year had passed, and I was one of the last two people who remembered it, the other being my best friend. But as time went on, we started talking in sign language less and less, as the teachers had stopped changing our seats. I still practised the alphabet in my free time so I don't forget it, but I never really thought I'd ever use sign language again. But about a year later, my mom and I were in the airport, returning home from a visit to India. We almost missed the plane and were starving, but the flight had been held up, so we had time to eat before getting on the plane. I convinced mom to stop by a Costa near the gate. She reluctantly agreed. It was the quietest, most deserted Costa I'd ever seen, but a Costa all the same. We walked up to the guy at the register, and we looked at the food and told him our order. He pointed to his ears. I was shocked. I'd never actually met someone deaf before, and I was anxious. I was suddenly unsure if I could sign right, or if he would understand me. So I stayed silent, my hands at my side as my mom pointed to what we wanted and how many we wanted. He got the number of items wrong once, but otherwise, it went smoothly. I legit felt so bad for him. Imagine having to work at this empty corner of the airport, with no one able to speak the language he understands- where he might not be able to communicate is thoughts or phrase his questions- So, as we received our food, I raised my hands. "T-H-A-N-K-Y-O-U" I signed. For a second he just looked at my hands and I started freaking out, thinking 'oh god I made a fool of myself again-' but a split second later, the guy's face positively *lit. Up.* I will forever be at a loss for words to explain the *excitement* in his eyes. He showed me the proper sign, and I swear I heard his *say* 'thank you'. I could barely hear him but oH gOd was that the most wholesome thing I've seen in my life. So that's why I've decided to do sign language again. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Whenever I go home from the bus I occasionally encounter an adult man and he always waves hello, today I saw him again. I soon realized he was mute since he was using sign language and I felt bad for not understanding him
Hi! Just for your information, most (if not all) deaf people are not mute! In fact, there are hardly any mute people out there nowadays. Some deaf people choose not to speak verbally because they are uncomfortable with using a voice they can't hear (since a hearing person learns to speak clearly through hearing). Some deaf people do speak, it's a matter of choice. Anyway, a lot of deaf or hard of hearing people get offended if you refair to them as mute. Because they aren't! The best way to communicate with a deaf or hard of hearing person is by learning sing language. And it's just a beautiful language!
One of my friends is blind. The amount of stupid mistakes I have made is embarrassing but he always laughs it away and says it is not a big deal. In example I once asked him what colour a plushie was.
I'm learning this because i bullied a deaf girl at my elementary school, after 5 years past all i feel is guilt, I'll make a redemption and meet her to talk with sign language, wish me luck guys
My friends learned sign language so they could "talk" during class without the teacher noticing. Instead of passing notes, kids would pass signs. LMAO..
I love how people here are trying to learn sign language bc of some great reason and my reason is nothing bc i wanted to learn it for fun so yea *Damn guys this is the most like I ever get*
my boyfriend is 100% deaf and can read lips. He says he's fine reading my lips but I can tell it's hard for him. I'm learning ASL so I communicate with him better and learn his language. ❤️
+Rasheed Edwards actually no! even though we broke up a while ago, i still think it's a little cool to learn ASL. I admit, i haven't practiced in like 2 weeks so i'll probably suck next time i practice but no i'm not giving up. maybe i'll have some friends that are deaf or another deaf boyfriend in the future, i don't know! it's always fun to learn this kind of stuff. i like learning new things except for math and stuff that we really don't need to learn in the future. ok i won't rant about math. but yeah i didn't give up.
I met a deaf person at Starbucks in the eighth grade and I gave him my number so we can text a conversation because I didn’t know sign language :) I’m only learning now bc there’s a school for the deaf near my school.
My dad is a teacher and his school makes it mandatory for students to learn the alphabet at the minimum. I'm learning some basics to help teach the students that want to learn more
I've always wanted to learn sign language... And I feel every school should have faculty for teaching Sign Language.... The World will be a better place then.
@GKeeper316 About 4.1% of the US population is deaf. That's around 13 million people. Maybe it shouldn't be mandatory, but it definitely should be encouraged. The option to take ASL as an elective subject would be a good thing.
There‘s this person at my basketball camp who comes every year and he has a hearing disability and it breaks my heart to see him by himself sometimes. Can‘t wait to start taking classes!
I'm doing the same, and it definitely is fasinating I learned a lot of this as a child but forgot a lot over the years (addiction & mental health stuff). An elderly lady who was hard of hearing came up to me today trying to ask for help and I couldn't make out what she was saying, tried my best though and helped carry her bags then came home in search to relearn the language.
Same here. I’ve got a dull profession in catering, but for a while have been thinking if I could learn SL and actually use it to employ myself and interact/help people at our local mute community.
Lark Unique I switched to sign this year at school and I guess I was excited for it but nothing too special, but then that same week I switched I watched A Silent Voice and I was left with tears. So now I really want to learn sign I’m super motivated. Also my sign language teacher is awesome and motivated me even more so yeah honestly asl is probably my favorite class right now :D
I love reading stories on the comment section on what drove people to learn sign language So here's mine I work in a supermarket and there is this girl who comes in everyday to buy stuff And sometimes she needs help finding things, so she usually has a note. The description on some of the things she wants is sometimes vague. Like she wants 500ml of yoghurt but then there are some many companies to choose from so I usually just give her the brand I like. So I'm hoping to learn a bit of sign language to see if I can help her better when she comes in. I also think sign language is mind boggling, how people can converse fluently by hand gesture is truly remarkable. So I'll dedicate myself to learning it bit by bit see how good I can be. Its always a mystery, a joyful one if I may say when I see people talking in sign language and can't help but think what they are saying. Never stop learning
I think that sign language is really cool, but if you think about it so is every other language, because while you are reading this (if you speak English) you are understanding what I'm saying even though it's lines and curves.
I'm 13 and have nobody deaf in my life whatsoever. However, I'm making an effort now since it's shown that kids learn faster than adults (since we're in a learning environment every day) and I want to pick up my language ability now. I'm learning basic German, Italian and Spanish as well as ASL. I want to learn ASL because I want to, should I ever meet someone deaf or hard of hearing, be able to communicate with them as best as I can :) You're helping me a lot and I look forward to more videos to help me and others learn.
You are an inspiration Claire. Most of my peers can't grasp their own primary language and make basic mistakes or ask me to spell (English is my second language). You should get the best understanding of multiple languages while you're still young. Alongside English, I've also learned Morse code (fluent at 20WPS) and I'd love to learn ASL mainly because I want to be prepared in case someone hard of hearing or deaf will require help/assistance, and partially because I'm fascinated by languages in all forms.
Claire K Yes, yes, a million times yes. This is a brilliant idea and I'm glad you're actually doing what you set out to do. You're going places Claire, keep doing what you're doing :)
This is really cool! Even though I'm 19 I'm basically here for the same reason. I've never met a person that speaks sign but it's still a valid language, just expressed in gestures. I was always fascinated by that so I wanted to at least know some basics. Btw Clair, in case you have specific questions you want to ask a native speaker about German you can always send a message ;) Learning languages is awesome ~
Thank you so much!!! My best friend and boyfriend is deaf with cochlear implants; but he asked if I could learn to sign because it would mean the world to him if he didn’t have to wear them just to be able to communicate with me. This means everything to me and I’m really excited to be able to conmect with him so deeply.
Awwww.... I wish you good luck I hope you learn pretty fast and surprise him with your new skill until then don't tell him that you're learning sign language....some day when it's looks like you learn inof then go that shock that person he'll be shock in happiness....for sure....my guarantee.....🤗
Oh yeah this really brings me such a great moments with my deaf friend in middle school, I just know the alphabet signs but that was enough to communicate with him, and I was the only one in the classroom or perhaps in whole school that know at least the very basics signs. At beginning was pretty hard to try memorise the letters, if i learnt 3 words each day after 3 days I forgot it completely. But I never felt desperate and did my best just to "talk" a brief conversation with him. I used to help him with homework or translating the teacher's class and always it was a pleasure for me. Even though he's older than me he's a wonderful soul and even is much better than many of my friends. And after 4 years staying in school I'm still grateful for that awesome friendship.
@@sherribaggett1615 lol I completely forgot this comment xD But yeah, have been like 5 years since we finished mid school and I still know the alphabet and though I don't talk with that friend anymore I feel so lucky for meet him.
My friend is going deaf and I’m really scared for him. I’m learning sign language cause we have to talk by writing on paper right now and I feel like he feels kinda left out from the rest of my friends because we all talk usually and sometimes it’s too loud for him. I really want him to still be able to hear soon, but I still want to do my part in helping him feel better even if I can’t fix his hearing.
Kayden before I come to America I did learn sign language in Arabic to talk with my deaf friend in my country and when I come to America and live here I met some deaf people they are very amazing people and I love them so I tried to communicate with them in sign language but I realized the American sign language is different than Arabic sign language so I start watching videos on UA-cam to learn the American sign language to communicate with my deaf American friends I love them so much. you have a good heart I wish you the best God bless you
I've been interested in learning more sign after I ran into a deaf person at the mall. Short Story: I bumped into someone at the mall and I said "I'm so sorry" and they signed 'again'. So I used the sign that I learned from this video to interact. It was short but honestly an experience.
I was watching the silence and I took a moment to think of it I realized that its important to learn sign language either to communicate with others or maybe to use it as a secret coded emergency language against thiefs like who knows right ?
It’s so crazy that a language made up of predominantly hand movements could have “variations” lol. You would think the ASL committee would’ve said “NO! We’ve got to get on the same page about this, people!!!” but it just goes to show like any other language, it’s as varied and unique as the individuals who are speaking...very cool!
I am profoundly hearing impaired now. So my wife and i are trying to learn i have had my hearing problem for 43 years now i will be 49 this spring i taught myself to read lips now i need to get back into signing again
It's American English sign language. So it mimicks the grammar structure of that and the mental phrasing. Most sign languages are derivatives of the spoken language in that country thus creating separate sign languages.
@@traininggrounds9450 what she is using here is American Sign Language, which has it's own grammar structure separate from English. Some people do use the signs with English grammar, but that is a separate language mode called Pidgin Signed English.
@@amysmith183 That's cool. I'm sure whatever phrasing there is in ASL is a derivative of English though and even American English. I'm sure Indian Sign Language has it's own idiosyncrasies relative to their spoken language. I bet Pidgin isn't too popular though due to the extra fluff right?
@@traininggrounds9450 If ASL is anything like British or Dutch sign language it will have very little in common with the word order of the language spoken in the US and will construct concepts in a very different way. The little BSL (British) and NGT (Dutch) I've learned over the years indicates that (as a gross generalisation) both languages tend to start sentences with the 'most important' word and work back from there. Since that's nothing like the structure of either British English or Dutch (two very different languages in themselves) I wouldn't expect ASL to follow US English either.
There’s this really cute guy in my grade who is deaf, so here I am. Even if he isn’t gay or bi or has standards, I’m pretty sure this’ll be worth it for him.
@@Nympthethereal Thanks for the recommendation! I have 3 different new cousins who will grow up deaf/very hard of hearing. Blood is thiccer than water so I figured its time to learn
I am teaching English to a student who is deaf, it is very hard to communicate with him. Your videos are going to be a lot of help for me to help him to read and learn English.
I took a short class in high school where I learned some basics. Its 3 and a half years later and I still think about the day where a deaf couple came in and they were really struggling to communicate and I was able to help them. I want to do be able to help more people again. It's also nice to piss off my friends in college by randomly switching to sign language with my other friend and they have no idea what we are talking about 😂
So happy more people are loving and amazed by ASL as a language. I dont have anyone Deaf/deaf in my family either, but I was lucky enough to be able to take classes in HS. Now I am on my third year of college trying to become an interpreter :]
Nate that’s awesome!! I think it’s really cool how sign language is and I’m trying to learn it myself via UA-cam and other apps, but I plan on taking the class in HS
Im just a 13 yrs old kid who wanna learn sign language... not because im deaf or i have a friend like that... i just wanna learn to communicate with loads of people :)
And even if they can, you can always teach them baby sign language in case it takes them a while to start talking! you seem like you'll be a lovely and thoughtful parent.
These signs are a very useful start for helpful phrases in ASL. The way you have some videos slowed with the phrase and facial expressions emphasized is great, thank you!

I’m deaf and this is a great way to teach sign language I watched videos and took classes and almost knew every word like these in 1-3 weeks! You go girl
So there's these two girls in my Spanish class who couple weeks ago would like review some sign and I could tell that they were very into it because almost everyday they would review something different ( of course this happened when there would be free time during class) and I had to take my Spanish final with them and so some people were still taking the test so nobody was aloud to talk yet and these two girls ( and I just want to say that there like the most sweetest people I have ever met) were just having a full on conversation in sign and I just was so amazed. I had this big stupid grin on my face. Once we were all aloud to talk i asked one how do start learning sign, how did they get into it and she said that they just kind of went for it and that its pretty fun to learn. I remember some things that I was showed in elementary like restroom and thristy and the alphabet that was all I knew. So I told her that just watching them made me want how to fully learn sign. So thats what I'm doing this Christmas break.
I did too, and I'm pretty sure my friend did as well. We were in a voice call and started learning together, and after I turned up my volume and realized there was no sound, he said something along the lines of "there's no sound, right?"
Ahh actually I learn sign language from your channel just to fill my spare time. Never knew if someday I would use it. Unexpectedly, I got the chance to use it in a flight to my hometown. The passenger besides me is deaf. She's so excited when I answer her back in sign language! We talked about many things during the flight. I'm glad I found your channel.
@@sienabensley7272 My school teaches it too. One of my friends took it, but I chose Spanish. The school considers ASL a foreign language credit. The state requires that to get into a state college you have to have two years of foreign language credits to even be eligible to apply, but the college system does __not_ consider it a foreign language. So if you want to go to college in Florida, ASL doesn't meet those requirements. Maybe it's the same in other places, so they may not have chosen it for that reason. :/
Did you say hello and see what she says? I'm going to assume if she's in your school she can read lips. So you don't need ASL. Oh, look up the deaf female comedian. That's how deaf people usually talk. So get used to it.
People: *learning sign language for serious things* me: *here to learn cos i wanna talk to myself like a crazy person* My parents will never know hehehehhehehehe
This make me very sad to watch cos my hearing parents didn’t raise me properly, no education, no sign language and treated me like nothing until they sent me away to boarding school in a result of being lazy. So I didn’t have a good childhood. They even tell my siblings not to teach me anything for years which was unfair. Dad abused me for years too. It shows that they didn’t treat me properly and unloved . Later I had 3 hearing children. I never make same mistake as my parents and am glad I bought them up in a decent upbringing as well as good education. I felt very bitter what my parents done to me. You are very lucky that they brought you up properly and had a good education.
Sally Fullick that is awful your parents really shouldn’t have been such mega asses!! I’m really glad and proud of you for doing so well in bringing up your own kids!! God bless!
Try to find it in your heart to forgive your parents. I find it amazing that you took your struggles and learned from other people's mistakes. God bless you
Just a Christian who wanted to pop in and say I'm sorry that you got abusive parents, and you don't need to forgive them. if they have changed and apologized or at least showed remorse for what they did and you want to, then that's fine, but you don't owe them your forgiveness. God tells us to forgive the repentant, the remorseful and changed, not those who would continue to do us and those around us harm. People who misinterpret His word do. And your feelings of bitterness are valid. If they seem to cause you problems, you might want to talk to trustworthy people or professionals about them, but be careful who you talk to. Many people spread harmful ideas about abuse and forgiveness. Wishing you well.
I wish i knew sign language as a kid. I'm not completely deaf. i can hear (wear hearing aids) but my talking is very different from others, Always been made fun of.
Aw- I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you- it's never too late to start learning and get involved in the Deaf community. There are ASL classes in Brooklyn (www.aslnyc.com for more info). If you have any questions, you can direct message me on Instagram. :)

Both of my parents are deaf, but for most of my life I lived with my hearing aunt and uncle, so I never learned ASL as a child. Now I have to learn ASL in highschool along with a Spanish class
I find ASL a very fascinating language and I personally don’t know anyone deaf but if I do encounter some one deaf I can communicate, also I like teach my friends so we can talk across the room
Yeah, in addition sometimes I'de rather move my hands to communicate because opening my mouth to talk to people sometimes feels like the most troublesome thing.
I am a dog trainer and just met my first deaf couple; the husband was hard of hearing and his wife was fully deaf. From my own research, I knew not to slow down when speaking to them, but I was conscious to make sure I fully mouthed words rather than speaking from the side of my mouth like I tend to do sometimes. She asked me to repeat myself a few times, which I expected, and the husband was beyond thankful at the end for treating them like everyone else. Which broke my heart. That is why I am here and why I subscribed. I need to learn more ASL, so thank you!
Imagine if there was a universal sign language taught in every school on the globe! Oh how much communication we could do. (My millennial nephew came up with that fantastic idea.)
Kind of same reason buddy....but somehow I feel I should learn more about the languages if it's sign language or any language I'm very much interested in language learning.....
If you would like to quiz yourself here is what you learned. Hello Deaf Hard of hearing Hearing Are you deaf? Yes No My name is (your name) What is your name? Nice to meet you. FINALLY!!!!!! an ASL teaching video WITHOUT annoying MUSIC, and with clearly visible hands and with slo-mo and repetition, and no busy/distracting background. FINALLY!!!! YAY. I need more of this! Also, careful specifics about which hand (dominant or non-dominant) and if motion is clockwise or counterclockwise. But alas, I won't do Insta or FB (no Zuck for me) so will keep looking on YT. Thank you for this!
The_ Joker it’s like saying we should all speak one language. ASL works great for English speakers but would be really hard for someone who speakers Spanish, French, or Italian for example
There is such a thing as a Universal Sign Language but it is hardly used and is mainly based on ASL. The thing is, when you look and start comparing sign languages from different countries, you will find that some are rather similar even though they are still their own separate languages. For example, BSL and AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) use a lot of the same signs, and the same can be said for ASL, LSF (French Sign Language) and ISL (Irish Sign Language). The thing is, why would we want Sign Language to be universal? You could make the argument saying it will be easier for communication but that's like saying everyone should speak English and that's not right. It would take away peoples' identities, cultures. heritage and that would make the world a boring place. Sign Language in every country is steeped in cultural tradition, history, and continues to evolve just like any spoken language so it has a right to be treated in the same way. I love the fact that differs between countries, and even within regions of the same country, because it shows how rich a language it is.
There’s a little girl that is deaf. So when I go to visit my dad I’ll be able to speak to her. I’m learning just for her. I’m very excited to see her face when I meet her ☺️
I have a deaf cousin and I still dont know how to speak to him at 15. I even use to live with him. He has a wife and child and his wife is deaf too, I really need to step up my game because I feel like a tool
I have a series of deaf customers and this greatly helps me because I always feel rude when I see them signing and I can't help without writing or blatantly exaggerating my talk (I talk way too fast.) Now I just need to figure out how to say "Will that be all for today?"
Ahhh...I'm HoH and work with two Deaf people, and my family never let me learn ASL because they found it "inconvenient", and COVID-19 inconvenienced a lot of things for me, so these videos are super helpful! I wish I'd thought of searching UA-cam for ASL lessons earlier this year than resigning to learn ASL later when this pandemic was over.
Thank you for making these. I’m a second year medical student trying to learn ASL in order to communicate easier with deaf/hard of hearing patients. These videos are great :)
My favorite movie when I was kid was the miracle worker I learned the alphabet but never any sign. I was transferred to a new district in my job and received a deaf customer he came in and talked with his phone. Luckily I knew how to spell and told him everything (which thankfully was little or we would have been in there for hours) he came in the next day without his phone happy to see me now I’m committed to learning asl so we won’t be in the shop forever.
I remember trying to learn sign in middle school and I got the basics down pretty good. But sadly I had forgotten most of everything except the alphabet due to the fact that I didn't practice. Currently working at a fast food and saw two brothers communicating in sign from across the room. It crushed my heart I had forgotten everything and I wish to relearn for those who can't hear/ speak.

God Bless you in your efforts at communication! You brightened that lady's life through your selfless act and effort!
That story made me smile, I heard you can teach infants to sign before they can speak. I want to learn to pass it on, and be able to communicate with deaf people and include them in on conversations. If there are no ASL interpreters or whatever the case may be.

Serously! I have never ever seen a deaf person NOT light up when someone (randomly) signs to or back to them. They are so sincerely pleased by it - maybe because it is so rare or maybe because it is always nice to be able to speak easily with a stranger.
so thoughtful of u
Aw
Imagine having to work at this empty corner of the airport, with no one able to speak the language he understands- where he might not be able to communicate is thoughts or phrase his questions-
So, as we received our food, I raised my hands.

And it's just a beautiful language!

thats so cool! I'm actually going to school for the exact same thing next year and also will be taking ASL!!
that's amazing!
I love reading stories on the comment section on what drove people to learn sign language
So here's mine
I work in a supermarket and there is this girl who comes in everyday to buy stuff
And sometimes she needs help finding things, so she usually has a note.
That is very kind of you. I think she would be pleased to know she was part of your inspiration to learn a new language!
Aww, that's so sweet
I think that sign language is really cool, but if you think about it so is every other language, because while you are reading this (if you speak English) you are understanding what I'm saying even though it's lines and curves.
Quarantine got me bored so I’m learning sign language as my curriculum for the next month because no school
Hi!
Michael Scotttttt
I'm 13 and have nobody deaf in my life whatsoever. However, I'm making an effort now since it's shown that kids learn faster than adults (since we're in a learning environment every day) and I want to pick up my language ability now. I'm learning basic German, Italian and Spanish as well as ASL. I want to learn ASL because I want to, should I ever meet someone deaf or hard of hearing, be able to communicate with them as best as I can :) You're helping me a lot and I look forward to more videos to help me and others learn.
Claire K omg me too, I'm learning asl and Russian , and the guitar and piano .
Claire K same
This is really cool!

Very nice story!

I've been interested in learning more sign after I ran into a deaf person at the mall.
Short Story: I bumped into someone at the mall and I said "I'm so sorry" and they signed 'again'. So I used the sign that I learned from this video to interact. It was short but honestly an experience.
I was watching
the silence
and I took a moment to think of it
I realized that its important to learn sign language
either to communicate with others
or maybe to use it as a secret coded emergency language against thiefs like who knows
right ?

I’m deaf and this is a great way to teach sign language I watched videos and took classes and almost knew every word like these in 1-3 weeks! You go girl
I swear Switched at Birth got me hooked on ASL.
C.T. Same it just inspired me to learn it so if I meat someone deaf of hard of hearing I can talk to them
C.T. same

I love everyone in this comment section for trying to learn asl
I’m learning sign language so I won’t have to talk to people at my school
Hej same here dude

You are a GENIUS

I mean, flipping the bird is so universal that even sign language isn't needed.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who turned up their volume.
Hey It's Arii u aren’t lol i did and it just said there is no sound lol
when people raise their voice for the sake of winning the argument but lacks substance.
I did too lol
I did too, and I'm pretty sure my friend did as well. We were in a voice call and started learning together, and after I turned up my volume and realized there was no sound, he said something along the lines of "there's no sound, right?"
Hey It's Arii I did the same thing lol
I'm just trying to teach myself bc why not?
Ingrid Y That's what I'm doing!!
Next is German for me :)

More people should learn ASL 🤷🏽♂️
i am
yeah they have a class at my school
here 👋🏻
I disagree with that why should everone learn to speak ASL
@@davidbernard8062 so they can communicate with deaf people?????
Time to learn stuff my school will never teach me
Because I'm pretty sure they're cowards
Yeah there should be sign language in school
@@AleyOfficial I agree. It should be taught very early in a child's life.
The school one of my friends goes to teaches ASL. She didn't do it though. I'm like: What??? Srsly???? You DIDN'T DO IT????????????
@@sienabensley7272 My school teaches it too. One of my friends took it, but I chose Spanish. The school considers ASL a foreign language credit. The state requires that to get into a state college you have to have two years of foreign language credits to even be eligible to apply, but the college system does __not_ consider it a foreign language. So if you want to go to college in Florida, ASL doesn't meet those requirements. Maybe it's the same in other places, so they may not have chosen it for that reason. :/
This helped me a lot bc I have a new girl in my school who’s deaf and nobody knows how to talk to her so now thx to this video I can be her friend!
Did you say hello and see what she says?
I'm going to assume if she's in your school she can read lips. So you don't need ASL.
Oh, look up the deaf female comedian. That's how deaf people usually talk. So get used to it.

Ofc a BTS stan said this
My parents often see me signing to myself and at one point they just gave up 👁👄👁
This make me very sad to watch cos my hearing parents didn’t raise me properly, no education, no sign language and treated me like nothing until they sent me away to boarding school in a result of being lazy.
Wishing you well.
holy crap..... :(

I actually wanted to learn sign language to be able to talk to some of my deaf friends. I really hope it works..
keep your head up don't let people make fun of you.

My husband is hard of hearing and we have issues talking when out at busy places so we decided to learn sign language. We've been doing it as a family with our kids and love your videos. Thanks for sharing and helping us learn!

My brother is deaf and I know all the basics but this really helps :>
Both of my parents are deaf, but for most of my life I lived with my hearing aunt and uncle, so I never learned ASL as a child. Now I have to learn ASL in highschool along with a Spanish class
It would be lovely to get to talk to your parents... know how they feel🙃
I am not a millennial, but i always questioned myself about it.
I'm here because the movie a silent voice. I'm not deaf but I find ASL to be useful and it may come in handy... Pun... I'll go home XD

Kind of same reason buddy....but somehow I feel I should learn more about the languages if it's sign language or any language I'm very much interested in language learning.....

Sign language should be a universal language, why do we have to create a divide in everything we do?!
The_ Joker it’s like saying we should all speak one language. ASL works great for English speakers but would be really hard for someone who speakers Spanish, French, or Italian for example
neftali ruiz Just saying it’s possible for sign to be universal. No language barriers no divide.
ASL American Sign Language is different than Mexico or other countries. I do not know why it has to be different either.
@@Ruizfranco48 We use the same ASL in spanish 😀
A Silent Voice made me wanna learn sign. Now when my favorite deaf couple comes in to the store i can finally communicate better :D

There’s a little girl that is deaf. So when I go to visit my dad I’ll be able to speak to her. I’m learning just for her. I’m very excited to see her face when I meet her ☺️

I have a series of deaf customers and this greatly helps me because I always feel rude when I see them signing and I can't help without writing or blatantly exaggerating my talk (I talk way too fast.) Now I just need to figure out how to say "Will that be all for today?"
Just make the sign for "finished"

It may not be often I run into someone who needs it but especially in these times where they can't read your lips (bc of masks) I'd like to be able to help :)
I've been wanting to learn sign. No real reason, just to Know it. Quarantine as just given me the time to.
I was watching an anime movie called "Koe no katachi" It's about a girl who's deaf and got bullied by a guy but later on they became friends again and the guy also learned a little sign language. I never knew how deaf and mute people feel. My mom's house is located near a school for mute and deaf people and every time I visit I pass by those people. I want to learn this so I can help deaf and mute people whom I'll meet in the future and guide them and be their friend. ㅠㅠ The feels
