    As a poor person who still wants to learn sign, this has been a great resource. I haven't been able to do in person classes, and having a teacher teach in the language has helped me so much! All the angles help a lot too! Thanks for making these accessible!

It's been year since you commented this, but I wonder: are you two friends? How's it been between you two? If you were friends, are you still friends or no? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I'm just curious.

      Another way to get extra practice online and learn more variations is to watch native signers -- if you can interact live / at Deaf events, that's ideal. But otherwise you can check out videos like anything by DPAN.tv -- watch the news in ASL! Great practice.

    I love that you show it from all angles and indicate that facial expression is such a big part of the sign. Thank you for all that you do in teaching. My son and I are on this journey together. We are hearing, however we bond over learning a new language and being humbled that we are blessed enough to have hearing intact. I myself only have 1 functioning eye, so I appreciate the challenges that come along with impairments.

    • @jlostudio9397
      @jlostudio9397 3 роки тому +1

      Grammar in ASL is pretty confusing. I like to think of it being slightly backwards, like learning Spanish. Eventually you’ll start to know where you’re supposed to turn the words around rather than talk the way we normally would, if that helps. Or if you’ve ever watched something Star Wars, just think of Yoda talk. There’s also a video by another person, but I forget who. Just stay on UA-cam and you might want to search ASL Sentence Structure. That one really helped me.
      Hope this helps you! 😊🥰 ❤️

    This was EXACTLY what I needed. I took a level 1 class several years ago up around Philadelphia and recently decided to take another class and didn't know whether to do Level 1 as a refresher or Level 2 and after getting some guidance went into Level 2. They spent last Monday going over all of the signs in Level 1... half I knew and half I didn't. And the review was fast.
    This covered a lot from the ones I didn't know or wasn't confident about!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
    It was the right pace and amount of repetition along with explanations for some.

    I love your videos thank you so much very clear and you go over it from all angles it helps specially the words on the side I usually put ur videos on mute so it's more visual I'm dyslexic so hearing some words then seeing them and trying to sign gets frustrating and too difficult but putting it on mute and seeing your expressions and signs makes it so satisfying that Im actually learning it.

    Hey Meredith, I am going over your new videos this time I am taking ASL 2 in my community college where I live. Been awhile I have practiced because of my other classes and work. I am hoping this time around I will stay in practice and do it on a regular basis

    It's funny I can sign way better than read. I worked with deaf kids for a year and then with adults with disabilities, where I signed but I had a couple students who used it for reading but didn't sign back. And now I just sign church music, but I have not really been involved in the deaf community since moving to our new town. Your videos are perfect for my level!

    Hi, Meredith! I have some doubts about signing some connecting words like: as, but, of, from, to, for, by, through, if, would, could, although, on, off, into, just, and, or... I'd love a video of you signing these words. I love all your videos! Thanks to them I am learning ASL and having a great big progress. You're amazing!

    Something I realized as a parent/teacher, having feelings of being excited is not always a positive thing. It has different meanings, especially for children.
    Of course, we usually use it to describe a good feeling related to pleasing experiences (good or bad) as adults.

    Some of these signs brought me back to my surfer root. Appropriately, 'Whats up?' and ''same as always'
    But the 'proud' sign made me think of FFXIV's Ball Dance emote.

    • @ASLMeredith
      @ASLMeredith  5 років тому

      Hi Turon, thanks again for sharing. As noted, it's normally to get nervous, but with more time and exposure you'll improve and gain confidence! You can also improve your skills by practicing in the mirror or even recording yourself and watching it back, to see where you can get better. Either way - don't be afraid - keep practicing in actual conversations and that fear/nervousness will begin to subside.

    • @ASLMeredith
      @ASLMeredith  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Leah, thanks for the kind comment! So glad you find these videos useful for learning :) Great question about double letters! I could certainly add this to my video list for the new year. In the meantime: Generally, you reproduce the letter's handshape in some way, though sometimes you may see a 'slide' movement instead. Different textbooks and different teachers give different "rules" to follow for double letters; there isn't one singular correct way. Vowels are almost always a "slide", while consonants.. you'll see a mix, and it may vary by position. Here's a good quora answer that summarizes some 'rules': www.quora.com/When-hand-spelling-ASL-how-do-you-sign-two-of-the-same-letters-like-in-good-or-steel But in your own class, use the style your teacher recommends!
