- The Poseidon Norton MTB is a modern trail hardtail that adopts modern standards and modern geometry. Supremely capable out of the box, but also a great canvas for upgrades to suit your preferences. Is it the best budget MTB out there in 2023?

a 29/27+ version of the poseidon would be awesome. 29's can be poppy and fun too!
Excellent review! Thanks for putting all this in context. And doing so concisely.
Thx! It’s a good bike - well thought out and balanced. Challenging for a smaller company.
I like the idea of supporting a smaller brand but I’m not convinced by this one. It might be inexpensive but it’s actually “cheap”. VFM isn’t there in comparison to other $1k hard tails. Vitus Sentier, Canyon Stoic 3, Commencal Meta Origin… there are better options if you’re shopping based on spec.
Those are all $300-500 more, not $1k.
It’s 700 bucks now, great deal it seems. What makes the bike cheap?
Orange P7 has a beautiful Reynolds frame. I snatched up one, made in UK. On Sale 3 years ago for $1780. Big jump up. Massive.
Sounds like a great bike with a good price,I'm looking for a mountain bike Carbon frames are junk in my opinion,so this might be the bike I want.
27.5 rules.
I run my full suspension at 27.5 (coming from 29), and it has made my ride so much more enjoyable!
Hey, I’ve been watching the development of the Norton on Spindatt for a while and I bought a frame to do a parts bin build for my wife. I wanted to love the bike and I’ve built up many bikes from frame only. The information in the specs on Poseidon website is extremely poor if you want to do a build yourself. They say the frame is ready for 180mm rear rotor, it is with a 20 mm adaptor so it’s actually built for a 160. The biggest problem is the rear thru axle. It’s boost yes but they don’t tell you the thread pitch or length. They told me it’s 180 mm x 1.5 pitch. Nobody makes a 180mm long axle x 1.5 and I bought a 178 from wolf tooth. The frame actually closer to a 172 or maybe 175 so it’s been a total pain in the a$$. I need to go to the hardware store to see if I can get a spacer. I’ve taken a bunch of pictures and am an experienced bike builder so I’ll ping them in the morning. So far, not impressed.
Should have mentioned I asked them to sell me a an axle and they said no, they only supply as part of a full build, go figure. I wish I’d just bought a Nukeproof scout frame, they come with a rear axle and given the F ing about I’ve had with this it’s cheaper! I built one last year. Zero issues and 100% happy.
@@andrewduncan3647 were you able to find a good solution for this?
Sounds like an absolute pain, I was debating whether or not to get this frame and do the same, but definitely not after reading this. Did you ever figure out the rear axle? If I ever get this bike I don’t wanna be hunting for the right rear axle size incase something goes wrong
I believe they have the through axel details on the website now. It was a lot of messing about yes but once sorted out it’s actually a nice bike. I really want to support smaller brands like some others have commented but they need to get better!
@@andrewduncan3647 looks like im gonna order it
I really want to get the Norton.
I wonder why they specd it with cable brakes. The mt200 is cheaper if not equal cost to that juintech
they probably get a better wholesale price, maybe cheaper logistics as well.
🤔 dropper + fork + wheels ($700 extra), I prefer a Ragley Mmmbop, Marley or Big Al, Vitus Sentier... (Discounted and financed)...$1,600 or less
Poseidon offers just the frame too at about $400, so you can avoid the entry level parts and put on what you want from the get-go.
Honestly probably the better option to get exactly what you want
AWESOME BRAND. 💯 AWESOME PRICING. 💯😎
fullerton loop, good times
Im so tired of seeing poseidon. Its a cheap brand that only UA-camrs like, giving bad information to people who then make bike shop employee's lives harder.
Cry harder.
@@Hornet135 🙄🙄 wow great job daddy
@@fleshmuseum that’s right, submit to your authority. Don’t expect to be able to post bs and not get pushback.
Getting a dropper post (adding weight) upgrading fork and wheels (dropping weight) seems kinda costly and one should just consider a bike with at least a dropper and a better fork.
That's how I feel too
What is the max tire width for the Norton?
or canyon stoic
There are many better bikes for under $1000.
Can you list a couple, I agree because youde have to upgrade

Great frame!
Why on earth did they choose such a dated paint scheme for it though? They missed the target market on aesthetics in my opinion.
You mean it’s not flat black?
What paint colors do the target market like?
