Thank you! I've always been slower gaining subscribers than some other equipment Channels. Most likely because of the mining theme. Doesn't bother me though, I pride myself in quality work and am grateful to all my fans who enjoy it
I was lucky enough to get a new D9L around 84 or so. Man, did those tractors ride good compared to the flat track solid roller frame dozers! Shouldn't be compared to a D9H, much bigger. But, they had their issues. The first design High Track Caterpillars wouldn't climb slopes well. They were short overall for their size which was touted as very good for working tight places. But, the tracks simply wouldn't support them well on steep climbs. Going forward wasn't as bad as going backwards. They were, I hate to say it, helpless trying to back up a steep slope. I done a lot of drill bench work and had to be very cautious about that. The later D10N, D11N and so forth had the extended tracks which helped. Still won't climb as well as the old flat track tractors.
Wow I never thought I would see you doing a D9L. There are some construction companies that are still using these to this day. I've actually come across a couple of them in real life as well as seeing a whole bunch of them on UA-cam at large construction sites.
I love all of your documentary videos especially anything having to do with cat, new or old. And it's really fascinating when you do the vehicles that I have models of because then I can sit the model beside me as I'm watching you talk about it. I'm currently building up my mining class and right now I have a wheel loader, which kind of looks like A cross between a cat in a Liturno, a D11, 777 rigid dump truck, and I am working on getting a cat 340 F excavator. Essentially what I'm going to do is I'm going to get a 1/12 scale RC excavator and change a few things so that it will fit in with the rest of the robust equipment in the class. And when I get done with it it's gonna look like A legitimate 340. Most of my equipment is 1/16 scale but The excavator has to be 1/12 because they do not make a 1/16 scale mining excavator or else it would be sitting with my other mining equipment right now
Great video!!! I have watched ALL your videos probably 10+ times.... These D9L's were absolute BEASTS and one of the most powerful 9s ever produced. Id take the 9: over any D10N... The entire N series were let downs in my opinion and dont make a pimple on the butt of the L's. Glad that some of these are still in service pushing along today. Will be a shame when they are all gone......
I like the old Caterpillar Logo. I had a couple T-shirts and a hat that I bought at a flea market a few years ago and I'll be damned if I could find them now.. Kinda pisses me off!
My home screen is me and my boy climbing up to the operators seat on this legend of Appalachia....it's paired with a single high grouser 235 grazin in a field for the heavy duty diggin... love the 80s iron
AHA! IM THE 1ST TO COMMENT......AS SOON AS I SEE A NEW NOTICE FOR YOUR NEXT UPLOAD, I IMMEDIATELY THUMBS UP THE INSERT, SIMPLY BECAUSE I KNOW IT SHALL BE OUTSTANDING! ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR SUMMER.......YOUR APPRECIATED IN CANADA :)
As always your videos are very informative. Funny even though Caterpillar has been making those high drive sprocket tractors for over 30 years I still think they look strange.
The mining company who owned this 9L (along with the other D11s in the background), filed for bankruptcy due to the decline in the coal market. She was auctioned off to another coal company.

I had 3 of these, great dozer. That 3412 engine has a sweet sound
Love this series you do on new and old machines! Thank you!
Personally I too enjoy filming these old machines. Thanks and glad you enjoyed it!
A legendary machine. Wonderful video!
What a powerhouse of a machine. Great upload!

Looks like you hit a honey hole of equipment. Let's keep these videos coming. I have literally watched every one you have made.
You deserve way more subscribers, your videos are well-done, interesting and very thorough, keep up the good work man

Thanks Justin, much appreciated.
I love the documentary videos keep up the good work 👍
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them!
Nice video! Most people don't know that the D9L became the D10N.
I know. It was an interesting model transition point in Caterpillar history
D9L beautiful machine

That is very interesting. I have also been informed that the track chains had a very high wear rate making them expensive to run.
First big dozer I ever ran! Thee ole d9L with a coal blade! Spent a lot of nights pushing coal trains off. Thank you for this awesome video!
First 30 secs educate, than WHAM - delivers an 4 year degree on a D9L - at least for this novice - thanks!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!

It's my goal to show the old iron and tell its story. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you! And yes I've been told by many operators that the L series were great tractors

Nice job!!

what an awesome machine!
The 9L is cool! Thanks
great Video love your Videos
Thanks!
The Most powerful D9

Thanks! It truly was a revolutionary design concept. Interesting now that Liebherr has introduced a high-track drive bulldozer.
What's the scoop on the new liebherr dozers? Have they got good results so far or do you know?
From what I've read the prototype appears to be a good machine. But time will tell. I'm hoping they have one on display at MinExpo this year
Yea put one in the heavy rock then we'll see!
Nice informative video once again Justin...is this particular dozer retired or under repair or just sitting at the end of a long day?
The mining company who owned this 9L (along with the other D11s in the background), filed for bankruptcy due to the decline in the coal market. She was auctioned off to another coal company.
thanks...great to see someone else reusing the old girl
I hope one day I can run one of these raised track machines im so sick of the flat track construction level stuff I run
Only reason for high track is because they couldn't keep water out of there finial drives. Now you have 3 points of wear.
another great walk around,,, how old is this one,,, waiting for more work,,, or the scrap man,,,
Nope, she was idled along with all the other equipment in the background due to the coal market. Thanks!
Awsome video. Still on use?
Still operational. She was idled when the company who owned her filed for bankruptcy due to the decline in the coal market
64 Tons and 460hp!!!.
great vid...too bad you couldn't fire it up
Does John know you're filming his 9L?
Probably not lol
hahahah
Do she run and where are you with so many cat dozers?

+PAmining oh that sucks hope it gets a new owner
