My mate is trying to talk me into getting a desert race tyre,, I'm only on a 300 tpi , what would suggest for the 300 doing the fink and going for a place ?
I wouldn't suggest running a large desert race style tyre, anything over the 120 width I found to rob a lot of power from the 300. If you're having a serious crack, I'd go with a front mousse/ rear UHD tube combo.
I have run a GT desert tyre before ( can't remember the model number) it was pretty similar looking to a Michelin desert tyre and held up well during fast style desert riding. Don't get overly stressed about a Michelin desert tyre or a big desert tyre in general, they are a bit overkill for the average guy especially if your regular riding doesn't require a desert tyre, you may end up getting stuck with a near new expensive tyre after the race . I did 2000km of prerunning on a dunlop mx71 set up a few years ago.
Hey when running the mouse in the rear are you running double rim locks?
