I have to agree, I have tried many other tyres but find the D606 definitely offers the best compromise for the dual sport riding I do. MT21 Pirelli on the front is a good option as well.

I have run the MT21 as well. It didn't work as well on the rear. On the front, the MT21 handled better, but I had splits on rocks and punctures. I have never had a flat with the D606.

Hi Mark, another great vid! Have run a 606 rear and MT21 front for quite a few years now on my DR650. I average 5K on the rear and 10k approx on the front. Was not a fan of the D606 front and found it some what unpredictable in the loose stuff. For me, the MT21 was better behaved and have since stuck to that combo. Running 25psi front/rear on the black stuff and 20 front/25 rear in the dirt. Fantastic prices for tyres at Essendon Motorcycles and Mowers - am about to order a new set! Cheers.

G'Day Mark, The only thing I would add, and it is not the fault of the tyre, is if you run lower pressure on the tar, the tyres will wear uneven, as Pete found out, so yes drop your pressure for off road, soon as you hit the tar, pump these up to road running pressure.

Noise on bitumen is the big downer for these tyres, a pair of ear plugs fixes that. Great tyres. Some say the side walls are so strong you don't have to ride with any air.

Grandpa Fumblefingers here. I have a couple of tips when you install the new tires.
    1) Set them out in the sun for a couple of hours and let them warm up. they will be softer & more pliable.
    2) Forget that window wash, Us a rubber lubricant. You can probably find it where you bought the tire changer. If not DAWN dish soap works great. And Grandma Rosi always has some in the kitchen, I simply steal it and tell her we are out. But seriously, it does work well.
    3) That NOMAR breakdown tool is worth it's weight in gold. Along with three or two other NOMAR products.

I've had the factory trailwings up until yesterday. I finally put these 606's on my dr. WOW! I love these. Absolutely grabs on dirt! I also changed my rear sprocket up one tooth. Plus I bought a front sprocket that's one tooth smaller, I haven't put that on yet. But wow it feels like a whole new bike already. I was wondering what pressure to run, so I'm glad I caught this video.

Hello Mark, those tyres look good and the business, very suitable for your bike and riding; ON my Triumph Tiger 900GT I run Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres 19"front and 17" back, they are 80/205 Road/trail type which is what I do, I don't single track just dirt roads, my recent sent I got 16,500kms out of the set...that is why I buy them! Great on the roads, good grip. So you have brought tyres fit for your use and that is the key...well done....David...Adelaide Tigger 900GT....

I agree mate I've run the D603,D605&D606 and also a range of Motocross tyres when racing.
I have to say the D606 for a 90/10 (90% off-road - 10% road) is an excellent choice, the fronts do tend to roll off fast on the edges so you need to be aware of that especially on bitumen.
Thanks for giving these tyres a bloody good plug mate.
But I have to say I've always run a good might alloy rim lock and had the tyres balanced, it keeps them from bouncing along and you get longer wear and a more enjoyable ride.
    👏👍🇦🇺

I haven't tried the D606 tires yet, but they are on my radar. As my DRZ is mostly my commuter bike, I lean towards a 50/50 tire as a rule. So far, both the Shinko 700 and 244 have worked great for me.

Hay mate I to LOVE the 606 - Rear only ( I swear by the Pirelli M21 Rallycross front ) the rear Rallycross is crap 💩- had one lucky to get just over 1000kms , but the front Rallycross the last 2 over 10,000kms each . I do LOVE ❤️ the 606 rear but , but I do only get around 2500kms , around 80% off road 20% on - I am a bit heavy on the throttle 😂😂😂. I do know we all have our favourites but I reckon PERFECT combo for a DRZ , DR , 690 , XT , ; basically mid weight Enduro or light weight ADV I’d the 606 rear and M21 front 👍 Raceway Motorcycles - I brought the last 1130 Benelli from them in 2018 !

good video going to put Dunlop D606rear and Pirelli M16 front on my CRF 300 L Tires can make a difference, I had Dunlop TrailMax Mission on my KTM 390 Adventure and had some shaking in the front so they put the stock tires on shaking still there, found out it was the disk, problem gone, but I find the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tire a lot better than the stock tires, they held the road a lot better when there was gravel or sand on the pavement when going around corners, also much better in the gravel and dirt roads. I also have the Dunlop TrailMax Mission on my DR 650 as I use it as a 50/50 bike, did go with a 20 liter gas tank, factory one way to small was always looking for gas stations. I use the KTM as a 70/30 or 80/20 bike the DR 650 as a true 50/50 bike and the CRF 300 L will be set up as a 10/ 90 bike 10 on road 90 off road. Am dreaming of a KTM 690 enduro may be next year see how I make out with the CRF300 L The Dunlop TrailMax Mission have over 11,00 Km and very little ware, most likely get north of 20 Km out of them. a great 50/50 tire. They to are a hard side wall, which I need on the KTM cast wheels.

Having worked with many race teams down the years from whom we pass on the conclusions to the companies which then get built into the over the counter tires we all can purchase. Tires have many contributing factors to their life cycles on bikes. First you will probably not be surprised how many peoples choices are usually dictated by cost. For a tire though you have a lot of contributing factors like profile pressures and most important the correct pressures to the riders ability to the terrain being ridden. We never found any tire remarkably better than any other in years of testing but wrong tire choice has been overwhelmingly a contribution to performance. Certainly from knowledge gained down the years I would not endorse any brand over another purely because they have all been about the same but I run Michelin on my Triumph Tiger and Bridgestone on my Honda AT and both for me give me the same feel and confidence and they both came fitted to the bike from new. I also have a Husky fe enduro bike that came fitted with Dunlops which also work just fine. As long as you use the right tire correctly its whatever makes you comfortable for me.

The D606 rear is the best DOT legal 100% dirt tire out there.
The front is a little dangerous.
If the rim isn’t balanced and you send it down the freeway and don’t pump it up high it might speed wobble.

Agree with the rider and not the tyre bit, as long as I have a few knobbly bits left it's always my lack of skills that let's me down. Great review, just finishing off the rear of a set of MT21s, they've been pretty good on and off road, will probably give the D606 a go soon.

I think a tyre is a personal prefrance. Whats good for others, dont mean their good for you. The tyre must give you as a rider a feel of safty and confidence. I think too many people buy these when they rarely ride dirt, and even that is just dirt roads. And try to turn their 300-500lb Dual Sport/ADV into a dirt bike, which is not good at that no matter what u do. So now u just ruined the smooth road riding qualities of your bike that u liked so much when u bought it new, when its really your skill level and sag settings making the bike handle poorly offroad. But hey....I remember being brand new to offroad, not knowing a thing and went EVERYWHERE on a completly stock bike. Iv never been happier not worrying about tires, suspension, the latest mods! Now Im constantly tinkering with everything, but thats another hobby all in itself.

I've been running D606s since I bought my DR650 in 2013 and continuing until now on my current DR-Z, I actually find they're pretty average tyres for most things off road, just decent performance across the board but nowhere near the best dirt tyre. I actually find them kind of terrible in deep sand, the reason I keep going back to them is their on road performance is so far above any other knobby tyre I've ever tried and on par with pretty much all the adventure tyres, except in road noise. I can keep up with all but the fastest riders on the road and then bugger off down a dirt trail whenever I feel like it.

Ive only used 3 different tires on my bike and the D606 was one of them. Out of the 3 I liked that one the most, I had one issue that was most likely my fault. When they started to ware they wore in a weird way almost like the knobs were coming off backwards. Now my tires were bot balanced at the time so that was probably it. I did a lot of commuting with them and they were pretty good. Got a about 2 thousands miles out of them. Ill end up getting them again down the road

For your 2 up tests. Have you considered testing a touring road bike? Can always fit adventurous tyres. Maybe not a Goldwing but a good variety around 1000cc that would cope with dirt roads.

I put a 606 on the front of my DR650, literally my first ever experience on a motorcycle tyre except for my training. and it does feel very sketchy in the way it tracks on the road, no complaints in the dirt though, I suppose you can't have it all. I think I'll try something else when it wears out. I have a heidenu on the rear which is fabulous

Excellent rear tyre. Hooks up really well in the loose stuff too. That goldentyre looks a really good pattern, they obviosly wear well if your recommending it. D606 are a great all round tyre. But i recently got a 2018 WR450F with a D606 rear, and it is absolute shit for what im doing here in W.A. Which is soft to intermediate stuff. I think for what you are doing on your DR650, and if i was doing the same, i would heavily consider it for that. The wear well, and do everything decently.

I just road from Idaho to Wenatchee on a 2024 Crf450rl. Stock irc g1 I think they are. The tire performance on highway was good 7/10
      Dirt roads 6/10
      Single track 4/10
      Rocky/muddy/ hills/ xtreme 3/10
I didn’t mess with air the whole time as I was constantly 😮transverseing different terrains.
I hope that if I get some d606 and willing to adjust air
      I’ll find
      5/10 highway
      8/10 dirt
      8/10 single track
      5+/10 in extreme conditions

The 606 seems to be a very polarising tyre, people either hate them or love them, can I ask all the people that hate them, what is a better alternative? I'm new to dirt bikes and don't know what to buy, I'm set on mt21 for the front but not sure on the back. Want something food for bitumen but has to be great offroad as well, not too concerned with longevity as long as I'm not replacing tyres ever 1000kms

It may be psychological but I do feel on pavement it feels like I am running a foot race with galoshes on! Not as nimble as others and pretty chunky. But off roading as is in life, is often a compromise. Best wishes for a happy, healthy Christmas & New Year's!

  • @brendenvosper7772
    @brendenvosper7772 2 роки тому

Get some rim locks and key your tyres down. Must be harsh as. Of course balance your wheels and ultra heavy tubes, very important. It will help your riding no end.
The 606 can be very noisy. Goes through a phase as it wears. Of course high pressure when on tar helps. Lowering and raising tyre pressure is a fact of life on a ADV bike between snot and the road.
As others have said, M21 is far better on the front.
