At your low point, you’ve just put out one of the best content I’ve ever seen. So much wisdom to be taken from this, even for a person from a much older generation as myself. You’ve just earned my subscription. Watch out Hyroxers, Hunters coming for you!

@@giovanni3023 He didn’t qualify for the 2019 CrossFit Games through the usual qualifying events eg. The CrossFit Open. Instead he launched a social media campaign to get one of 2 wildcard spots. His campaign videos kind of made him appear arrogant and disrespectful. And I guess we were expecting both wildcard spots to be given to previous games champions or someone who narrowly missed qualifying or maybe someone who would completely dominate the reigning champions at a snatch ladder… for entertainment purposes. But I think it was in the end a good decision to go completely wild for the wildcard and put an OCR athlete to the test.

So many valuable lessons from this experience. I'm incredibly grateful you share them all in such detail. You've undoubtedly learned boatloads about how far you can push yourself, and your transparency is truly inspiring. Your dedication to leaving a mark and being one of the greats is evident, and I wanted to say you've inspired me tremendously. I'm currently training for an IRONMAN thanks to you, and it all started with HYROX.
I watch all your videos and have followed your recent journey closely. Your dedication, reading countless books on fitness, and your expertise in every aspect of fitness and competition are impressive. The experience you have, coupled with your relentless drive to push yourself to the limits, makes you truly admirable.
I really hoped for a sub-51 finish, and it was heartbreaking to see what happened in Nice... I can't imagine what it must've felt like for you, going into it knowing you weren't even close to your best, having to find strength where there wasn't any must've been a horrible feeling.
Remember that feeling and use it to fuel a plan to beat these guys next year. Your resilience and determination are what make you the champion bulk pony we all know.
We're rooting for you man, document this year and smash them come 2025!

Hunter, wow!! What an honest and inspiring assessment of your performance and lessons learned. I, like many others on here, have been following your training for the last few months in awe at how you’ve been able to get such high volume, heavy weight, etc, all WHILE losing weight. Without illegal drugs, this combination is nearly impossible.
While I’m not a pro athlete, the lessons you’ve gone through are similar to ones I’ve gone through with a business career - my best performances are always when I’m well prepared but critically NOT over doing it. Thank you for sharing all this. You are one of the greatest.

I enjoy all of your videos and as an amateur athlete, you have definitely inspired me to get better and improve my Hyrox times (I consider it my own challenge to chase your incredible times).

Your transparency in what went wrong for you is greatly appreciated and I have certainly learned from this video. The marginal gains are killing the whole story.
Thanks for this insight and story hunter.
I have also been overtrained while training for the Worlds in Ironman and I have also seen this in many top performing athletes.
Before Team Sky went on to win the Tour they struggled with the basics of recovery and training.
Marc Allen struggled to win Hawaii many many times and Dave Scott overdid it before Mark Allen won his first Hawaii and unfortunately never came back.
Lance had two coaches: Michele and Chris. Michele although having a dark history was nevertheless one of the best exercise physiologist and very top notch (authoritative guy). Very smart guy that focuses a lot on the whole basics of the physiology (always staying below LT2 to increase threshold).
My POV is: The low weights are probably just possible in extreme endurance sports. The whole german federational system of track and field overtrained so many good and talented athletes with a too much intensity, too little calories and too little recovery system. RED-S is just so very common in endurance athletes here and a big big hazard. I guess you even induced more stress with the altitute tent or this system ;).
When you look at rowers or XC Skiers (Huge VO2 Engine) they also have a bigger frame. I guess the ultimate capacity in Vo2 (in l/min) is more important than your relative (ml/min/Kg), ex. 7L vs. 73ml/min/Kg, for hybrids or Hyrox Athletes.
But also you see some Athletes (like Kristian Blumenfelt or so), that have a bigger frame with superb relative VO2 values.
Excited to see your next races! Will be good!

Braylon Tender offered you his coaching services. Oh well. Braylon would have told you that Tour de France contenders care about power-to-weight ratios for one reason only. They race up hills for long periods of time. Gravity is trying to pull you back down the hill and you have to exert power to overcome that force. The greater your bodyweight, the more power you need to overcome that force. So Tour de France contenders are obsessed with achieving the lowest bodyweight possible, consistent with exerting sufficient power to compete at the highest level. Hyrox has no hills. It doesn't even have a station where you have to directly exert power against the force of gravity, like a pull up station. That was a royal blunder, champ.
