    If Range Mode used 1/30th the power, you cannot just multiply the range results by 30 to get expected full power range. Power drops at the square of distance, not linearly.

    So basically, you need to go TBS crossfire to get a decent range

    Thanks Steve. I purchased a Video Aerial Systems Shapeshifter 2.4 Antenna when first released for my Jumper T16 radio after I installed the multi Tx but I never got around to using it. The antenna sound promising so I now need to decide if I should modify my Radiomaster T16S to use it. Though I mostly use full range Crossfire on all my radios including my Futaba T18SZ.

      If you have Crossfire, I don't think you need the antenna mod.

    Saw in another video you were raving about the tx16max - have you switched over to that, and if so did you find the antenna on that better than original or did you have to upgrade the max antenna as well?

    Thanks for the test. I also think this may be more a test of the antenna as a receiving antenna as opposed to transmitting. I say that because you were using the telemetry signal back to the transmitter. I know that while flying fpv , I have “lost telemetry “ but still had control of the model. All in all , I think you’re totally correct Thant there is certainly “some” range gain with this antenna even if we don’t know what exactly that number is. Keep it up and maybe that Orange Dodge will wear his tires out and eventually leave!

    With my stock FS i6x and an Fli14+ diversity rx i get arround 600m and with two added LR antennas i get a maximum of 1,8 KM under perfect conditions...but i rather put CRSF micro tx on my TX16 before i ruin it by modding the hell out of it..

    Your quad should have been higher or you need flatter area to test range normaly.. People doesnt fly near ground when 1km away. :)

      @@TahoeSteve Will higher altitude decrease range? Or it's just gonna be better with less interference from the ground? I remember seeing an article that says a high DBi antenna has a weaker signal when it comes to vertical coverage.

      What flysky receiver are you using on your tx16s?......I do have a tx16s and an fs-ia6b receiver and still testing it if it can go up to 500m....

    You had to struggle soo much for this test . My radioking tx18s has a removable antenna with an SMA antenna so i can remove my antenna without openning my radio . That might mean i have poorer range on stock but yeah changing it for the aftermarket one is super easy or probably even easier than the word easy itself.

    • @aakashjana6225
      @aakashjana6225 3 роки тому

      also i got myself crossfire so range is not something that i am scared of anymore lol . No stock radio has a highly dependable range you can only fly within a distance in which you can spot the aircraft with your bare eyes.

    Your conditions were not identical. First time you were in the back of a metal vehicle and the antenna was laying on its side. Second time there was a human on the light post with the quad. You need to place the quad on something with no metal. And you need a clear line of sight with no buildings/metal along the sides.

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve  3 роки тому

      You're probably right, thus the big effort to have a disclaimer right up front. Bottom line is that I do have more range with the new antenna just as the paper data and real data showed in the video.

    Do you use Crossfire?

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve  3 роки тому +2

      My other TX16S has Crossfire on it. Crossfire is certainly the way to go, but this is a cheaper alternative, and you don't have to swap out all of your receivers. This video was done mainly out of curiosity. I really wanted to know how an omni would perform over the factory antenna.
