humorous fantasy is my favorite. I love when things are not always epic and dire and battles. First of all is the Discworld series, but also Robert Asprin's Myth series.

When I saw your video title, I immediately thought of Kings of the Wyld. That one is definitely my kind of humour!
Also, the Palace Job sounds ridiculous! I might have to check it out for myself. I also didn't realize that there was a lot of humor in Traitor's Blade. I may need to push it up on my TBR. Great recommendations video! =D

Sam, this was on my feed today, and I thought, why not. Not sure if I ever watched it, but knowing me and how much I loved your content, I cannot believe that I hadn't.
100% agree with your picks for humorous fantasy recommendations, especially The Princess Bride.
Marie and I miss you on UA-cam. Maybe this was sent to us...by the Internet dieties...to help us through our desire to see you back on UA-cam.

You can't talk about humourous fantasy without uttering the genius that is Terry Pratchett. I love his work so much and highly recommended it. I've laughed my butt off in public more times than I can count.
Indeed, Kings of the Wyld sounds like one of his books (Interesting Times).

Anything by Terry Pratchett I'd always recommend of course. Also the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer. Tom Holt is good if you like mad ideas and writing with your humour.

I keep hearing Pratchett is pretty funny! I'll need to check his books out soon!

I just discovered your channel as this video came up on my recommended feed. I love it - I recently did a book review of Kings of the Wyld; I loved that book so much and will be reading Bloody Rose soon, the follow up book. Love your selections and want to read "The Palace Job" and "Theft of Swords" in particular that I hadn't heard of before. I did a video a while back on humorous science fiction books, so I can definitely relate to the concept of the video. Love the way you review them.

I love humorous books! Who doesn't love to laugh, and why not while you're reading anyway. That's why I love Terry Pratchett's books so much. He's sure to make me laugh out loud every time I read one of his books.
I really have to get my hands on The Princess Bride - I've always wanted to read that book.

Having just finished the Lies of Locke Lamora, thank you for this list, definitely some books to check there.
Having said that, and reading from some comments below, you really have to get into Terry Pratchett's Discworld. When it comes to humourous fantasy, Pratchett is the master of the genre. His kind of British, witty sarcasm is impeccable (if you like sarcasm, you'll love captain Vimes). Note that his books aren't your standard "fantasy novel peppered with humour". Humour is the main element, but that doesn't mean that the story in itself is undermined by the jokes. Also, underneath the humour lie messages about racism, sexism, oppression, you name it.
Just one last thing, bear in mind that it is a whole 30+ book series and the first 2 or 3 books fare poorly, both humour and storywise when compared to the following ones (but hey, they read so easily that you can fly through a book in like two days). Sorry for the rant :P

I love this video! I was umming and ahhing about buying 'Kings of the Wyld' and now I'm sold. I loved Locke Lamora in all three books and can't wait for the 4th book to come out. As for other recommendations, I gotta shout out Terry Pratchett and the 'Discworld' series - he seems to be one of the biggest fantasy/humour authors ever. Also Neil Gaiman's books are often humourous (and with Good Omens being written by both Pratchett and Gaiman). Joe Abercrombie can also have quite a dry cynical humour to his books and I often find Brandon Sanderson has a bit of humour running through his books (especially the Wax and Wane post-Mistborn ones!)

    • @SamsCozyCorner

I found Finn Fancy Necromancy quite humorous. It does have a lot of references to the 1980’s and that really hit my funny bone. Now you won’t get the action like Sebastian de Castell, but you do get more humor and a wide range of characters. (Humans, Sasquatch, Elf, were wolves.....). I enjoyed the story. Check it out if you can.

Thanks for these! I want to read more adult fantasy books and things that put me off from easily doing so are the amount written by guys thus the higher chance of sexism, the length, and fear of being bored by them. I like a bit of humor in books and it being mixed into fantasy is a pretty good formula for me to enjoy a book. :)

If you like sarcastic smart ass characters you should definitely check out the Bartimaeus series by Jonathan Stroud. The Bartimaeus character is a walking embodiment of that style of humor. Its basically set in an alternative history London where the politicians that run the country are magic users. It combines witty humor with political intrigue. Nathaniel is a young magician who summons Bartimaeus, a 5000 year djinni and he tries to use him to work his way up the ladder. Most of the humor is the banter between the two, Bartimaeus is the smart ass and Nathaniel doesn't want to take crap from him. The first book is The Amulet of Samarkand. Pro tip, the UK covers with the Bartimaeus silhouetted across London are way better. The US covers almost make them look like children books when they're really more on the same level as harry potter.

My recommendations - 'Days Out - The Funboy3' By Phil Street. A trilogy of comic masterpieces. Four guys travelling from town to town, from pub to pub. Very funny. Should be made into a TV show. The author has written a couple of books in an 'Antidote' series and a Novella which is very amusing.
