Thank you!! I read A LOT of classics and I haven't found many you tubers that talk about them so I really enjoyed this video ^___^ Personally, classics are my favourite genre as well, and soooo many you tubers just seem to talk about YA fiction which doesn't really interest me anymore as I am a bit too old to enjoy that genre now haha. So, thank you!
This is great!! I really love this kind of intro to classics videos since I have always been wanting to branch out to classics but intimidated by the wide selections and the archaic language.
Niki LivesNow I'm glad it was helpful, I was a bit worried it wouldn't be! Yeah, it can definitely be a bit intimidating when you start to read classics, but it does get easier :)
Sabrina Handal I'm happy with the positive response I've received, because I honestly though this was going to be the worst video ever, and not helpful, haha!
Scratch the "ramble", this video is filled with a lot of good tips and information. The only classics I read have been german classics in school, like Goethe or Brecht. But I'm a huge Steampunk fan and as such I love the Victorian setting, so I might pick up something from that era at some point. Dickens for Christmas and a hot coffee from my R2D2 mug seems like a holiday plan. :)
Bitten by a radioactive book Oh good! I'm glad it's not as much of a ramble as I feared :) And that sounds perfect, Dickens, Winter Night, a Fire and a Christmas Tree....perfection
Definitely agree with you that classics get much easier to read once you read more and more. Little Women is one of my favorites too!!! And Gone With the Wind is my ultimate favourite!!!! I love it so much! You recommended some wonderful books, great video!!
verityreads Yes it is! Such a powerful book and how can you not love Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh? (I'm an old film buff, I'm a sucker for classic film as well, haha)
I definitely recommend The lion,The witch, and the wardrobe by C.S Lewis. Its such a wonderful/ magical tale you can’t help but be excited to filp the page to find out whats next. Its a repsention of thr bible (like the rest of the chronicles of narnia books). So just to be aware of that. But again yeah its super easy to read and its just magical.
The language in classics is definitely what deters me from reading most of them. Nobody talks like that anymore so I feel like it takes more energy(?) for me to actually understand what I'm reading. But I really really WANT to like classics so I'm glad you made this video! I'll definitely have to start with one of these.
Kelsey Jardin Yay! I'm so happy it was helpful! Yes, I get what you mean about it taking more energy. I still tend to read a classic at a slower pace than I would a contemporary novel
I had to read To Kill a Mockingbird at the beginning of the year and really enjoyed it! :) The first classic I read was The Giver, but at the time I didn't see it as a classic. I did read Pride and Prejudice as well as Jane Eyre which was probably the worst mistake because they have really put me off classics. It was at the end of 2012, so I was only 13. And it was so hard for me to read and understand. It took me months to finish them both (I read them back to back.. Even bigger mistake). I'm trying to slowly wean myself into reading classics again and not be scared off of them.
ABookAddict Yeah, definitely try again! I also find that I have to be in the right mood to read a classic. If I'm just not feeling it, I'll pick up something else and then return to it later
You definitely need to be in the right mood. The only problem I find with them is that there not fast paced like the books these days. But will definitely try again when I'm in the mood :)
I watched Gone With The Wind as a kid and found it so depressing. lol But I love Little Women to pieces even though it broke my heart. I need to re-read it. :) Thanks for the tips. :D
Akossiwa K Yeah, Gone with the Wind is pretty sad :,( But Little Woman is just such a sweet book! It does break your heart, but it's still heartwarming at the same time...if that makes sense? Haha
+Akossiwa K I didn't like Gone With The Wind either. I thought Scarlet was reprehensible. It reminded me of Wuthering Heights. I saw dysfunction instead of strength.
you mean they are classics but some were written during the 19th century which was the start of modern period? so they fall under the modern literature instead of classical?
Excellent advice and excellent suggestions! This video was absolutely great and it got me thinking about how to help people get interested in classics. It's just so daunting sometimes! So, I filmed a response video to this one. ua-cam.com/video/bAsR_WSn6vg/v-deo.html
I personally found Animal Farm by George Orwell to be quite easy to read, and technically it is a classic.
+TheSuperShrew My dad gave me that to read ages ago...I really need to get on it!
True!
Thank you!!

Grace Christie Oh good, I'm glad you liked the video! :) It's so true, classics don't get enough love on Booktube!

I second these recommendations, these are all some of my favorites!

I love Anne Shirley❤.
Oriana Parra
I love Anne Shirley too.
I had my doubts about this video but I found the recommendations good. A definite North American bias but then I'm an Aussie.
I haven't seen the TKaM movie, read the book in HS...but the film is B&W?!
Patrick theBookAddict Yes! With Gregory Peck! Really good movie
will, try and watch it :P!

Madam teach some thing by classic literature
YA classics are easier as well. I think they have more adventure than standard classics which makes them easier to get into, at least for me.
I SHALL START MY QUEST WITH PARADISE LOST
Your are talking about your classic books that goes opposite of the title labelled for this video.....!!
you mean they are classics but some were written during the 19th century which was the start of modern period? so they fall under the modern literature instead of classical?
Kindly replay
