I just want to modify things so that I can make a story line that goes along with the Tarkovsky aesthetic of Stalker, Solaris, and Andrei Rublev (Space monk tiem). Not toning down the violence, but emphasizing the psychology and the human element of these kinds of stories. Really happy to be a backer of this Kickstarter! Read the zero edition rules and think the 1.0 will be even better for what I am thinking of crafting!
If you're still doing this, there's an official STALKER ttrpg that's fairly famous. It's a bit weird since it's diceless, but it's honestly just fun to read since it has little stories from The Zone and setting information not expanded on much in Roadside Picnic.
I just discovered this game and company. You guys’ website alone is worth the price of admission. The amount of free content on there, support, accessibility…man, you really knocked it out of the park. Purchasing this boxed set in the morning for sure. Please keep up the good work.
So once the armor is breached it’s completely useless? Wouldn’t it be more fun if every time you got hit the “armor” you have lost an armor point until it was completely destroyed?
Hopefully they are keeping the miliary training/ammo rule. That made it so different and terrifying if you were in a violent encounter and you only had one shot before you had to reload your smg
I applaud your decision to make the Panic conditions less clinical, especially for the reasons given. I think it would be fitting to rename "Heart Attack" to something else as well.
Are the rules available on Drivethru rpg the same version as in this updated version? If not, when will the drivethrurpg options be updated or purchasable?
Do monsters still make a combat opposed roll on defense? Or are they moving to the new armor system as well and they'll only use their combat stat on offense?
Oddly, only on offense. They seemed to have eliminated opposed rolls of ANY kind, and I can't get my head around an opponent's abilities having NO bearing on your success or failure. There must be some easy solution to this.
I actually like double fails. I usually just tell them "bad things happen to the both of you..." and let them say what could go wrong. Usually its a mexican standoff when you get shot and shot back in retaliation, or the fire barrage does actually hit but the enemy gets to close the distance anyway. Also, depending on where youre fighting, things will be exploding and computers start shortcircuiting, lights turn off, the amount of noise from the struggles get the attention of more dangerous creatures lurking in the darkness, start grappling monsters and setting things on fire.
I like the simplicity of just making a combat roll to attack. But I can't get past the notion that WHAT you are attacking has no bearing on how hard it is to succeed. I also can't imagine an rpg can get by without a contest roll system even existing.
Where can i buy 1st edition? i cant find it anywhere. I see a sold out mothership player survival guide on nobleknight games but i dont know if it is 1st edition.
@@colbyhunter4622 Tuesday night games website is the best place I know! Should be first result for “mothership 1e” on google, you can get notified when they are in stock again.
Great video, but still have a question that you might help, a creature has in its stats "hits: 6 (55)" this means it has to be hit 6 times before being killed, and it has 55 points oh health? Thanks.
Think of it like this. Each "Hit" is a health bar, and the number in the parenthesis is the size of the health bar. So if you deal less than 55 damage, it still has 6 hits, but once you deal 55 damage, it's down to 5 Hits. You need to get rid of all of its hits to kill it. Additionally, if the thing runs away and heals up, it recovers damage, but not Hits. Additionally, if a stat block reads "Hits: 3", then you just need to hit it three times and it dies, with no regard for damage. Which does unfortunately mean that for a creature with Hits but no Health, a crowbar is just as effective as a grenade. I hope this helped.
@@renardTrickster thanks very much. I didn't find this rule anywhere, but from what I gathered is because I have the zero edition and those rules are on the first edition that didn't come out yet... how did you find out this? Thanks.
@@blamp666 Actually, these rules did exist in 0e. If you have access to A Pound of Flesh or Dead Planet or such, enemy stat blocks will have this notation. But it's true that they weren't explained in the player's guide IIRC. As for where I found out, I think it might have been a post from the official Mothership subreddit where someone asked this same question? Which in turn was probably answered in the Mothership discord if I had to guess.
Sean, if possible, please note that androids should NOT scare ONLY FRIENDLY players. Thanks for the clarifications, after them I liked the fact that you added d20. I also hope that you will find time to agree on the translation of the game into Russian. THANKS! SPASIBO! ))
SOOO excited for this, cant wait for the pdf! DR system for armour looks lovely and a player in my game had a minor freak out last session over the panic rules in EXACTLY the way you guys described lol. Amazing work, true genius
Also about tactics. You’re creating a SYSTEM. While it’s great to be streamlined and leave things open to dm fiat the truth is that most dms won’t make up rules on the fly and would rather stick to printed material. The dms and groups that want to change rules DONT NEED YOUR PRINTED APPROVAL. Everyone else wants rules.
If a GM isn't making rulings, than you don't need the GM, just a computer. The ability to make rulings adapted to the situation is CORE to the running of TTRPGs... the GM is what makes the experience function the way it does. Also, by telling the GM to use their judgement to resolve actions, and to engage in conversation about how skills may apply, then you are ensuring that the rules as written lead to a GM playing by make rulings. It's not a bug, it's a feature.
While I understand the desire to be more considerate of players (and I'm saying this as someone with a condition myself), I simply don't understand why people who might be triggered by something would even play games like this in the first place. I've seen the safety tools for similar games and it would seem irresponsible for people with those particular sensitivities to even expose themselves to such content - or, by regulating or eliminatiing that content in the game, it becomes something completely different. Either way, not the optimal choice.
I must chime in as the obligatory 4e defender! It has my vote for the strongest edition of the game, with a really brilliant approach to design, worldbuilding, and usability.
I want a mothership soundboard with weapon and ship sounds, and most importantly the mothership and tktv themes and variations!

My first dive into Tabletop rpgs and this seems like such a good choice for me. Really excited for this!
Same, I have been peaking into it for a while, looking for an IP that really stood out to me.
Be sure to let us know how it goes or if you have any questions.

That panic system sounds excellent, just neat and perfect.

"book of 100 interesting encounters" please, something to drag and drop into place or adapt to a situation. pleasseeeeee

Props for the WFRP 2e shout out. :-)

I don’t see anything in the rule book about sensors on starships…will that be added to 1e?
Will there be tools for converting from 0 edition available for purchase or download.
I'm all in on Mothership! Backed the kickstarter and had previously bought a few items on Roll20. Will the Roll20 items be updated to 1st edition?
Yes, Roll20 will be updated. The question is when. Answer: We don’t know but it’s on our to-do’s for sure.

Everything labeled 1st edition (1E) is definitely updated. If you can't find 1E in the description, its 0 edition.
What's the background music? Especially at 6 min mark?
Thank you for reminding me. Tonight I will add attribution to the description.

We certainly hope so. It is likely only a matter of "when" more than "if."
