    Every single scene on The Office is close to perfection IMO. The acting, the mannerisms, the body language - just incredible. When you watch the actors in the background who don't have speaking parts and they're still completely immersed in the scene. Gareth here, for example, when Brent is saying "Let's grow ourselves a big lanky, goggle-eyed freak of a son" he's in the back and starts to shake his head when David goes too far. It's just brilliant. Also when Jimmy goes in for another kiss and Gareth pushes him further towards Dawn. The little things make this so good.

    This show delivers human interactions too well to the point where I get chills sometimes. The American Office is great escapist comedy, whereas the British show is borderline depressing in its accurate portrayal of workplace social dynamics. Both are good in their own right, but, for me, the UK one wins for its realism and artful depiction of cringe moments that happen in real life.

    Mackenzie went on to write and star in The Detectorists which I highly recommend. Watched all 3 seasons as they came out. A nice gentle English slice of life show in the countryside. Unusual and high quality as only the English could come up with.

    one of literally dozens of scenes in only 14 episodes which are better than anything which happened in the US version.

    • @M2-mike
      @M2-mike 5 років тому +4

      Though I prefer the short UK original. There are some great moments In the US version. Either way it's tough to compare the two shows besides season 1 which is a carbon copy. The US version goes on to develop it's own identity and own brand of comedy

    • @christschinwon
      @christschinwon 5 років тому +4

      @@M2-mike I only saw one episode of the us version. The Brent character was being filmed driving into work and ran over a member of staff turning into the car park. I'm still laughing thinking about it!

    • @mrfish9876

      Started out a poor rip off of the uk version, developed into something funny in its own right, then dragged out long past its sell by date towards the last few seasons.

    The best part for me are the moments leading up to Brent's blunder as Gareth goes from amused, to slightly uneasy, to shaking his head as if he's silently begging Brent not to talk about the Oggmonster's big eyes

    Dialogue between Brent and Oggmonster: I close my eyes and imagine it’s a sketch on XFM. I imagine Ricky and Karl have taken it one step too far in dissing Merchant and he actually cracks down. But he has never been close to sounding so upset at XFM, so he took it in good stride when they did it there. He does sound annoyed at XFM but never so sad as he does here. Good acting. Well done.

    What makes it funnier (another nuance) if anyone else has noticed is that during the Brent/Oggy exchange, Brent's head and shoulders are right at the bottom of the screen near the corner and Oggy is all the way at the top, emphasising the height difference but also making Brent look like some little cartoon character!
