The BBC must have taken what, about eight hours footage a day, and most of it was like, you know… "Oh, look. Here's a good guy, he's getting on. He's their friend as well as their boss. He's a motivator, an entertainer. There's lots of good stuff. Oh, he's made one mistake, like any human would, should we just cut that out?” ...No, what? Put that bit in, cut the other stuff out. We want a scapegoat, we want to dumb down. We wanna give them the biggest plonker of the year.

6:54 I always had empathy for Brent in this scene. He made an effort to get everyone together and break the ice, and The Swindon Lot made no effort at all. Brent was pulling teeth to get some basic conversation and banter going, and he got nothing back but silence, rude whispering, etc. One of the few times he was actually in the right.

Brent’s idea of a conversation was him talking to everyone. Nobody was allowed to have their own conversations because it was all about him.
They whispered because it was basically “an afternoon with Brent”
If it was Neil he would have just had a chat with someone to his right. Instead he made it a “look at me” performance.
