gvalley07+ Freddy Montano I so agree with you both😊😊!!! She was a worldly treasure and not just because she had a beautiful voice💐💐 and she was an outstanding drummer💐💐 too, but because she had a good heart 😊😊!!!!
no estas tan herrado.. opino lo mismo estoy encantado con tremenda voz.... como me pesa su partida :( esta angelita nos dejo muy buenas interpretaciones...
Amazing performance; this was live folks no auto tune, pitch perfect, nor ear piece devices used today, this was all Karen at her very best, no one can top her in live performances.
How could anyone dislike this ? She was so amazing and so beautiful. I love her so much for her vocals and her drumming.. What more could a guy ask for in a girl. 💋 Love you Karen forever...RIP Angel
FYI: I GREW UP W/ CARPENTERS (1 YR. YOUNGER THAN KAREN) IN SO. CAL. (L.A.) YOU COULD NOT 'ADMIT' YOU LOVED THE CARPENTERS > IN THE MIDDLE OF ALL THE *DRUGGIE HIPPIES / BLACK PANTHERS / ANTI-USA / ANTI-VIETNAM / *ACID ROCK* ETC. > THUS THE MOVIE SCENE IN "TOMMY BOY" OF THEM IN THE ROOFLESS CAR > SINGING HEARTS OUT > TO THE CARPENTERS "SUPERSTAR"!
She sings and looks lovely, just a beautiful voice and she was a real star and a kind person, everywhere we go your music is still played, thank you Carpenters
+Tim Brooks In my, not so humble opinion, she was the greatest and best ALTO [contralto], of all time and easily in the top 10 of all singers, male or female.
Really rare. I listened to this song on the family car radio in 1970. But by 1983, everything changed. 35 years have passed and I continue to listen to this song with the same admiration. I believe that Karen is a talented woman with an unfortunate destiny. "Achieving perfection is the most important thing". Karen Carpenter.
I remember this show from back when i was just 15 and my dad knew that i loved the carpenters and told me that they were going to be on boston pops that night and i watched it and was amazed how well they performed:-)I have been looking for them live in contert a while because my wife has never seen them and "woohooooo",I found the entire boston pops show with the carpenters and i ordered it and it is on it's way in the mail to my wife and me now:-)We can hardly wait to watch it:-))))
Thank you so much for sharing video from this concert! I was a child when I watched this live on PBS, being a huge Carpenter fan. I am so glad some of this still exists. She was a tremendous talent lost way too soon.
Karen was at her heaviest here. She was actively going to the gym and on a great diet. It was it this time that folks and the rags were stating publically that she was getting fat. I so wish they kept there stupid insensitive mouths shut. All the years of not hearing Karen's tones getting richer and all the songs we have not heard.
Classy lady. Love the plain gown with an over jacket in a jersey knit. Perfect for concerts. I'm gonna get my seamstress to make me one like that. Everything about her is just class! Ive just learned so much from her as a singer. Subtle Diva.
Interesting to see in this video clip from the Carpenters' appearance with the Boston Pops Orchestra, Karen's unique way of holding a microphone with the middle finger and ring finger of her left hand on the outside of the microphone and her index finger, thumb and pinky finger on the inside of the microphone. She holds the microphone that way in another video clip of her singing the song ''A Kind of Hush''.
I'm sure the only reason PBS won't release this whole show is because Richard won't let them. Now, if enough Japanese fans were to request it I'm sure Richard would bend over backwards to accommodate them
I have to correct my two previous comments. After watching the documentary ''Close To You : Remembering The Carpenters'' again, I noticed in the video clip of Karen singing the song ''There's A Kind of Hush (All Over the World)'' that Karen holds the microphone with her index finger and middle finger on the outside of the microphone and her thumb, ring finger and pinky finger on the inside of the microphone. In addition, I did not correctly list the full title of the song in my previous two comments.
Actually, after looking again at this video clip of the Carpenters' appearance with the Boston Pops Orchestra, I noticed that Karen's index finger on her left hand is on the outside of the microphone not on the inside of it. But in another video clip (not with the Boston Pops Orchestra) where she sings the song ''A Kind of Hush'', she holds the microphone as I described in my previous comment.
@ Marty Howe. It is not that Richard Carpenter can't sing well--although obviously he does not possess a great singing voice, his voice blended perfectly with Karen's voice. Contrary to what you wrote, Karen would have made her mark on the world through her magnificent singing even if Richard Carpenter had not developed a passionate interest in music, because to paraphrase an old expression, ''talent usually rises to the top''. Karen's superb singing talent would have been discovered and nurtured by someone, even if her brother had not developed a career in the music business.
uhhhhhhhh the whole entire video is grainy and blurry! Don't get me wrong, i appreciate you posting this. I appreciate seeing ANY Carpenters video footage, grainy or not. But I just wish there was higher quality video out there for most of the videos. I just watched a laser disc from the 80s with a lot of the music videos on it, and it had better video quality than anything that's on youtube, which is sad..
No. writing, choosing songs, composing, arranging, producing, and keyboard talents. As Karen herself once said "other than that, he doesn't do much". Karen was the voice, he has none. It's the voice that sells, but without Richard it is highly doubtful Karen would have made her mark on the world.
Richard produced several albums for other A&M artists after Karen's death. Those projects did not sell very well. He did a solo instrumental album some years later. He began working with a female singer out of Nashville, I think, but that association did not produce any hits. www.richardandkarencarpenter.com/fans_ask_8.htm
He's done a lot of remastering and still arranging. He's been staying busy doing what he loves. I've seen him several times in Long Beach, CA with Petula Clark and then performing "Top of the World".
Never get tired of hearing this woman sing. She was a national treasure.
Oh excuse me..... but she belong to whole world... i miss her too. Greetings from Chile !
gvalley07+ Freddy Montano I so agree with you both😊😊!!! She was a worldly treasure and not just because she had a beautiful voice💐💐 and she was an outstanding drummer💐💐 too, but because she had a good heart 😊😊!!!!
In ny humble opinion Karen Carpenter is the best female vocalist of ALL TIME... too. Applause from a Brazilian fan!!!
rpsnet you are brilliant for saying that
no estas tan herrado.. opino lo mismo estoy encantado con tremenda voz.... como me pesa su partida :( esta angelita nos dejo muy buenas interpretaciones...

Miss her. Gone so fast.
Too perfect to last forever, thanks to Richard as well.
Sometimes one of God's Angels does visit Earth.

Beautiful!!! Simply magnificent darling! I never get tired of this song and I'm pretty sure I never will. 🖤🖤🖤
Who sounds this good live? Wow! Love You Karen! Thanks for the restored footage!
A voice so awesome, it is hard to adequately describe it. Just amazingly pure, unique, rich and absolutely beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing video from this concert! I was a child when I watched this live on PBS, being a huge Carpenter fan. I am so glad some of this still exists. She was a tremendous talent lost way too soon.
Always perfection!! RIP sweet lady.
Karen, Tony R.I.P. ❤️ Blessed!

Loved this/wish there was more of Carpenters before Karen was ill. God Bless Her ❤️Such an Angel👼

an angel having a human experience
She was only 24. Most 24 year old artists today don't know a key signature from a spud potato.
This is awesome! Thank you soooo very much for putting this on youtube! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Excellent Carpenter footage!
Man they are really packed on that stage :)
ooooooh wooooooow how wonderful and soooooooo cooooool : ) thanx ever sooooooo much for putting this on : )

ME ENCANTAN ESTAS CANCIONES DE ESTOS BELLOS HERMANOS CARPENTERS

Superbe interprétation, la voix d'un ange je t'aime Karen. Un petit français qui pense encore à toi.

+7Lukibi99Tore7 They say you can tell a singer by how she holds her mic.
Thanx for sharing ... love it
Wonderful!
It's too bad PBS refuses to release this entire show to the public.
Oh, I'm sure if they find they can receive enough "pledge drive" dollars for it, they'll find a way to release it!
I'm sure the only reason PBS won't release this whole show is because Richard won't let them. Now, if enough Japanese fans were to request it I'm sure Richard would bend over backwards to accommodate them
wow!
Karen, the world Loves You Dear! I remember this song in 1970. I was Alone and Pregnant!! ❤❤❤❤
she looks lovely here. too bad what happened. very sad. 😢

I posted four videos a few years ago featuring most of the concert, but WGBH Boston filed a complaint and I had to remove it.

Perfection!!! What concert is this from? Thanks for posting.

The best female voice of the seventies.
Of all time! 💞

She was such a nice girl. Her vocals were second to none, no need for her to play drums/percussion.
No need? Lol, she actually liked playing drums. Read some more....
+juan cisterne Karen LOVED playing drums and she enjoyed playing them while singing. She was a virtuoso at both.
Oh Karen.... Karen..... Tan única.
Are they using this clip in the new Dark Shadows movie with Johnny Depp?
Boston pop...blowing a clam @1:30! for shame!
Hello...!?? Somebody there...
ℴ𝒽 𝓂𝓎 𝒢ℴ𝒹
Would you please send it to me? I'm willing to pay for it if necessary
never heard from richard again after she died..... so where is HIS talent?? in a yellow suite?
No. writing, choosing songs, composing, arranging, producing, and keyboard talents. As Karen herself once said "other than that, he doesn't do much". Karen was the voice, he has none. It's the voice that sells, but without Richard it is highly doubtful Karen would have made her mark on the world.
It took the two of them to produce that magic...
Richard produced several albums for other A&M artists after Karen's death.
Those projects did not sell very well.
He did a solo instrumental album some years later.
He began working with a female singer out of Nashville, I think, but that association did not produce any hits.

No one ever pushed Karen to be thin but Karen...
fool4singing exactly!! No one told her to starve herself..
Too bad her brother pushed her so hard to stay thin.
The footage is awful
Look at what we have now complete trash
