    I’m a utility worker in the Asheville and surrounding area. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen. Me along with all of my coworkers are praying for you all and doing everything we can to get the biltmore area, swannanoa, and chimney rocks power restored. It touches my heart to see the support from everyday Americans that have came to help. And the people that live in these areas have been so nice to us. Mountain people know how to survive and still live one another. My faith in humanity has started to be restored.

      Good to hear! How bad is the town hit? As I strain to bring my mind back there and remember Chandler from years ago. Remembering driving in the town doing some business there multiple times.
      How many days without? I think the longest I've gone without power was 12 days.

      I scrolled down and found your comment. I had thought the same and already posted my version of your thoughts, thereby validating the observation. Not that this is rocket science Lol!
      I thought it was a perfect briefing for this type of briefing about-what's-happening news format, which it needs to be and keep it nicely flowing.
      And while I don't always like music in any video on serious subjects, I welcomed it in this video and was impressed with how good those Asheville local musicians are, and her selections and placements.

    • @Vkw-ld1ux
      @Vkw-ld1ux Місяць тому +1

      @@meredith2277 maybe a little nervous because she’s talking mostly about Asheville which is a major city with an airport. There are still many communities that are in a very different position and in dire need that don’t live in the city of Asheville. It was private citizens that were some of the first people there putting up starlink so people would have internet access.. no mention of that kind of thing either. This is very selective information.

    • @SJ-ef5gk
      @SJ-ef5gk Місяць тому +2

      @@Vkw-ld1ux I live here and it was everyone who helped and FEMA was here fast. Yes, the local citizens were the first people to be here to help, that only makes sense. The airport is near Asheville but it's out in the county. It's also a small city about the size of Scranton PA or Binghamton, NY probably not even that big.. I happen to know the person who made this video and a lot of the people she interviewed and it's all the truth. It's still a huge need here and it's been all hands on deck. We're very appreciative of all the help and care coming from other areas.

    • @Vkw-ld1ux
      @Vkw-ld1ux Місяць тому

      @@SJ-ef5gk You mean here as in Asheville, correct? I didn’t move to NC, I was raised here and moved back. Can you speak for all of the other areas or do you know who some of the first people that were in Asheville with starlink.. because I know. And FEMA isn’t boots on the ground, I’m not that foolish. I’m very well based in the military community but I welcome you to speak your mind on places like Chimney Rock, Spruce Pine, or Black Mountain. I’m glad Asheville is doing well and I’m not denying that a main hub with an airport shouldn’t have been priority but most of us care to know to whole truth are well aware of what’s been going on in Western NC outside of Asheville.

My grandson's an executive chef at a resort on the ocean... I mean... pretty sure he could find work. Well... what a shock... what an absolute shock... to see our beautiful future home devastated by the very thing we were running from. @@Nic_P85 Do you want everyone in the country to move down here? It's already out of control with prices and getting over crowded. This is a small city with big city traffic. Forest, farmland and pasture are getting gobbled up left and right for ugly apartments and subdivisions. Everyone and their mother is trying to move down here and you want more to come? Wtf us wrong with you people? The mass influx is severely impacting the quality of life down here and overdevelopment of the land (the land we all love and live here for) is truly horrible. It completely alters the vibe. People need to stop moving down here. Vacation here dont move here. Everyone wants to move to the vacation destination and that's how you ruin it. Fact.

    Definitely keep us posted on updates there in the mountains. My crew and I were a part of the Operation AirDrop AirMobile missions there out of hickory. We flew 2 Huey helicopters from the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation there delivering supplies in and out of landing zones in the region 50 miles or so from Hickory. It was a distinct honor to be there for that mission. The Great Smokies are absolutely God’s country out there, and as a praying and believing Baptist myself, I felt it was God’s work in helping the wonderful people of the lower Appalachian mountains. May they be blessed! #AirCav 🚁

    Thank you so much for your update. My plan was to come to Asheville to pick up clay at highwater clay which is on the river. We headed home from the Smoky Mountains on that Friday rather than going through asheville. Up until Thursday night they were just saying it was going to maybe be some heavy rains through about midday on friday. We decided to come on home. The storms followed us all the way home to Central virginia. I was a nervous wreck by the time we got home! The clay sublime company is on the river. I heard that the water was 20 ft deep. I know there was a lot of potters who lost their studios and everything. There's a lot of fundraisers going on. Lived in Asheville in the late 90's so I'm not surprised by the outpouring of love, support and community, same with the influx of support from around the country. American's can be an annoying bunch at times but usually not when there's a disaster. There's a small church close to where I live in Boulder Country that has a sign ... Hello from Arizona! I am so glad I found your channel tonight! My brother moved to AVL less than a year ago and absolutely loves everything about your wonderful town. He was blessed that his home high and dry, so just the water and power issue we all are too familiar with. Just today he told me his power was restored and now his internet. Our mother endured Hurricane Andrew in ‘92 and that was a Cat 5 hurricane and horrific, as many of you may know. I have been sick with worry for not only my brother, but for all citizens in WNC. I was lucky to visit this past spring so I am all too familiar with so many of the landmarks. The outpouring of love I am seeing in this video is amazing. Thank you for taking the time to film this and share the current status. The utility workers, and everyone involved has done heroic work thus far. God Bless Asheville and all of WNC and its fine residents. Thank you, again! Stay safe!!

    Beth you make great videos and I started watching your channel a few months before this disaster. My gf and I here in Florida was so looking forward to renting a cabin around Waynesville to see the fall colors and explore the entire region later this month, but obviously that’s not happening…. So many lives have been impacted. Just made a donation to the WCK like you linked on your video. ❤

      Thank you so much. World Central kitchen is a wonderful organization. I think we will film Waynesville next as they are looking quite good and all the vacation rentals are still open for business. They are welcoming people to come to town right now because they are back open, we appreciate your comment and I’d be glad to hear from you when you’re ready.

    The 1916 storms dumped even more water but not near the population and development back then of course. I was there all of September and luckily got out of the area near the Riceville Fire Dept even though the bridge at Bull Creek was washed away. We maneuvered our way out via several connected private driveways that a local discovered. Quite the mess. You're definitely right to mention non-potable water being a major issue. Flushing toilets may not be a sexy topic but it's super critical.

      Important to realize that much misinformation re FEMA is being spread-like their home repair program (max $42,500) is a loan or that they take your land. Incorrect. This repair program is a grant-not a loan, and they don’t take your land. Also, people don’t know that normally response efforts are led by county/state with assistance by FEMA. This kind of misinformation is damaging because it will discourage some from applying for funds that they qualify for.
