Annie's suggestions were PRICELESS. She's forcing him to write the worst kind of trope-filled dreck, and he's having to smile and pretend to admire her ideas as if they are literary gold.
I would have watched a whole series of little movies about Buster and Virginia solving crimes around Colorado.
what?
Amen. Their chemistry was amazing in this movie, and I love both those actors!
No kidding.
Richard Farnsworth died a few years ago, after a long career. I think Frances Sternhagen is still living.
What have been a good idea at the time
Hey Madison, Paul's ultimate victory all the sweeter, when he's denying Annie any closure to her beloved story. Such a perfectly desperate instance of taking revenge. It's even better in the book, where he's actually just burning a bunch of blank paper while the real manuscript is hidden under the bed. In the end Paul actually gets to give the world his new masterpiece. The story of how it was written will make it an instant best seller and make Paul a God among legends.
Kathy Bates took home the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the movie.
The scene where she breaks his legs was on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.
A good thriller doesn't always involve over the top nudity, or senseless gore. Stephen King has mastered the art of the horror/thriller, drawing the audience into the story. You can almost feel what Paul is going through every moment with Annie.
We all can't wait to read your novel. We're your #1 fans! 🤪
Misery is an absolute classic!
Reiner's "This Is Spinal Tap" is another MUST SEE!!!🤘😔❤
Reiner's "Primary Colors" is great as well. He does a nice cameo in it as a radio talk show host.
Congratulations on finishing your first novel, I hope to see it on the shelves soon!
Great reactions and insight into the Misery film, Madison!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Kathy Bates won the Academy Award for her performance. I didn't know James Caan died in July, that's a shame.🙏🏽The first film I saw him in where he was the main star was "Thief" (1981). It is a good film, and pretty unique. Yes, the vault film of "Rocky" was great. If you liked that film you will definitely like "Rocky II" when you watch it.
I remember LADY IN A CAGE starting Olivia Dehavilland, James Caan ANN SOTHERN around 1965
Amazing reaction Madison, to not only one of my favorite movies but one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations! Ugh I could see the pain on your face when Paul was forced to burn his manuscript. As a writer myself I feel the pain and despair in that moment anytime I see that scene.
2 mins ago! Lol passing through, just missed ya!! On to the reaction I gooooo 🙌🏻🦾😎
Great reaction. RIP James Caan.
You might be the first person I’ve ever heard say “Dad gummit” and I love it.
If you like more of the awesome Kathy Bates in another Stephen King adaptation but different than this one, you'll want to check out Dolores Claiborne from 1995. Jennifer Jason Leigh also stars in it. A little quote on Wikipedia: "The film was well-received by critics, with the performances of Bates and Leigh being especially praised. Kathy Bates stated in a retrospective interview that her performance as the titular Dolores was her favorite performance she had ever given."
Another Rob Reiner movie - a comedy: When Harry met Sally.
When I met King I told him, "Mr. King, I have to tell you: I'm your number...28,534th fan! Or thereabouts."
He laughed but clearly didn't want to talk to me.
"I will leave you alone now, " I said then.
"Thank you," he answered sincerely.
King once said in an in interview that he didn't realize while writing it but after finishing the book - Misery is about cocaine and where it took him. Cocaine was his #1 fan - until it turned on him.
Great reaction as always.
Fellow writer here. If you haven't seen Stranger Than Fiction, you should definitely give it a go. Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal. I often randomly think of Emma Thompson's technique for inspiring creativity.
Will Ferrel's best performance, imo.
Such a great underrated movie!!! 💥
A very unappreciated gem!
Your Film Fridays keep getting better and better, Madison. I was super interested how you'd react to this as a writer, though no woman I know, writer or not, would go for a drive by herself in a blizzard without snow tires. That seems like "man against nature" behavior and nature usually wins. I love the way Paul Sheldon ultimately found Annie's weakness. He couldn't outrun or outthink her, but she was vulnerable when it came to Misery. I think this is the only thriller where a villain is defeated by a manuscript. Keep these wonderful videos coming, and congratulations on finishing your novel! I'm looking forward to seeing you published.
Kathy Bates, Academy Award, Best Actress 1990, for Misery.
I'd love to see King commission a real MISERY anthology book collection for us to read to understand why Annie loved the books and why she went bat sh*t crazy. I love that kind of immersion in books, tv, movies and videogames.
Suuup Mads! Welcome back!! Letssss dooo this!!! 🙌🏻🍿😀... Sincerely, your #1 Fan! 😉....
Lol great line, given this movie, lol
Your facial reactions to everything that happens in this film is so fun to watch! Great reaction, Madison!
I enjoyed your Rocky reaction. :) It prompted me to nostalgically look up the series online, and I found out Stallone has made a new director's cut of Rocky 4 that is apparently very different to the original. I'm very intrigued.
So, Madison, between this and Romancing The Stone, are you sure you want to be an author? BTW I'm your number one fan.
Yeah, Kathie Bates earned that Oscar for sure❤
I think Kathy Bates' character was supposed to be an analogy for cocaine according to King..
Just an all around good solid family movie.
Right up there with 2007s Funny Games
@@mikethemotormouth Yeah, but The Sadness from 2021 is still one of the greatest family friendly movie.
@@Lupinvej haven't seen that one yet. 2014s Goodnight Mommy is definitely a contender
@@mikethemotormouth The one that takes place in Antarctica with the cute dogs, it’s from the 80’s, is also a really good movie about people bonding.
This movie ranked at #12 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo, cool reaction as always Madison, take care sweetie 🥰
Welcome back
This is going to be a fun one 😆 🏆 ❤ 🎥
Another "writer" story gone seriously creepy is "Sinister".... Ethan Hawk is the lead in this horror film and it's near the top shelf for suspense..... Definitely perfect for your October spooky season film reactions.
My favorite James Caan role is in "Brian's Song" .... True story of a professional football player and his tragic end to cancer. ❤ 🏈 🎥
btw you wimp Madison 😆 LOL looking away at the "hobbling" scene.....hahaha
My pet peeve is movie trailers that basically tell the whole story of the movie (plot twists and all) in abbreviated form. I always think, "Well, I don't need to see THAT movie because I kind of feel like I just did!"
All of Rob Reiner's films are good. I don't like or care for his one minded politics but he is a very good director. You should watch "Stand By Me" and for a totally different movie by him is "Spinal Tap" a great comedy if you haven't seen either one. And I agree about the spoilers, better to know very little about a movie so you can have your own revelations and surprises.
There's a book entitled, "Four Screenplays" written by the late William Goldman. He adapted Stephen King's "Misery" for the film. Mr. Goldman also wrote the screenplay for the adaptation of his original novel, "The Princess Bride", also directed by Rob Reiner. These four essays are comprised of interesting anecdotes and behind the scenes recollections of Mr. Goldman on working with directors and actors. The other two essays are about his experiences writing his original screenplays, "Marathon Man" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".
Stephen King has fans tell him all the time that they are his number one fan. Even stranger, King got into a bad accident where he was hit by a car and almost had his leg amputated as part of his long recovery - art imitating life.
The original novel "The Fan" is where this concept was taken from. It was about a ball player with a twisted fan. James Cann was a great actor. Try "Thief" or "Alienation"
I feel your pain Madison on several levels. The Sherriff really gets me though. I think it's a pretty consistent end to a benevolent character in many Steven King's work. From the Shining, to Dr. Sleep, to Shawshank, to GReen Mile. There is always a benevolent side character instrumental in helping the protagonist escape their torture only to have the antagonist unexpectedly take them out.
Mr. Jingles?
@@tracyfrazier7440 Mr. Jingles did die. He just happen to have a miracle worker near by to resurrect him. HA
@@lethaldose2000 I was wondering if that is who you were referring to in The Green Mile. I couldn’t think of any other character that would fit. Thanks.
@@tracyfrazier7440 I never thought about it until you brought it up for that movie. THen it came to me. It's not definite in "Green Mile". THat's why these reactions are great they promote discussions with us consumers of great movies.
Hey Madison! New on here! Great movie! Lol
There’s like 6 actors with lines in this whole movie and two have minimal lines (Lauren Bacall and the waitress at the end). What a great small scale piece this is. What acting.
Rob Reiner is the son of Carl Reiner, a famous writer and producer. Rob was also in All In The Family.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have seen it countless times. And I’ve seen numerous reactions to this. But every time I see it I cringe at the hobbling insane I feel that pain for some reason.
Fantastic reaction.
Check out the movies The People Under The Stairs(1991), Stand By Me(1986), Candyman(1992), and A Nightmare On Elm Street(1984).
I love your channel. I've watched every video. My favorite video is your The Others reaction. I've watched it 4 times. Your commentary is great. I really feel like you are talking to me personally. I look forward to your future uploads. I hope we have many years together. I'm your number one fan. 😁
The scariest villains are the ones you can easily find in real life. Stephen King, someone often creating supernatural monsters, managed to still create a terrifying character without the need of otherwordly powers. Annie Wilkes makes you think twice about wanting to become famous 😨
35:02 Every one of my partners I’ve met through my lifetime involvement in amateur theatre. They all grew disenchanted once they realised the confident, eloquent and witty charmer they fell in love with was nothing like I was off stage. 🤷♂️
- THE TOWN (2010)
- PRIMAL FEAR (1996)
- PRISONERS (2013)
- GONE GIRL (2014)
- GRAN TORINO (2008)
💪🏽💪🏽🔥🔥
Gran Torino is great.
Absolutely Fantastic suggestions!
"I love this sheriff" Don't get too attached.
Richard Farnsworth has a nice role in The Natural with Robert Redford.
@@conureron3792 His biggest role was probably in Anne of Green Gables
Ahhh Madison, I have no problem letting the psychotic mass-murdering, book lover take the reigns into this deep dive of terror. She's so sweet and unassuming, what could go wrong. Since her goal is really to help us all to be better. In the words of Kathy BAtes, "Help me to help you."
Another great movie about writing in a different vein is "Finding Forrester" directed by Gus Van Sant.
James caan.
Also great in Rollerball.
(Has ANYone reacted to that?).
Funny that you mention writers being typecast in a certain genre. There's a way to get around that... create a pseudonym to write under another name. Actually, Stephen King admitted to one when he wrote thriller novels as Richard Bachman.
Job well done and great analysis as well as reaction . Cheers and regards on getting published
Beethovens moonlight sonata fit so well as she broke his ankles.
RIP James Caan.
When John Lennon was killed by that crazy Beatles fan every celebrity in the world probably thought about that one fan who writes them five letters a day....
Do you NOT recognize an amazing song when you hear it "Shot Gun?" Girl please. hahahah
An entertaining reaction as always.
And Madison... just to let you know...
I'M your number 1 fan!
Awesome review. The burning of the manuscript hits home for me. I had a similar thing happen. Where I was punished by my ex who shredded up a story i wrote. It took me about a year to work on it.
Great movie! I got to see it in the theater when it came out. Entire theater groaned when she hobbled him.
Hello Madison. Here are a few scary movies from the 1970s that you might like. Marathon Man, The Legend Of Hell House, Midnight Express and The Sentinel. These are good movies that young folks are probably not aware of.
Do NOT watch Marathon Man if you have a dental appointment upcoming.
Fantastic reaction and best wishes on getting published.
For more Kathy Bates - and a totally different character- check out Fried Green Tomatoes
Can you react to the original Godzilla (1954) as your #54th film? I think it would be pretty fitting if it was.
The title song is amazing foreshadowing.
Awesome Movie and Work Lady as Always!!!👍👍😎❤️ Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
I just wanted to say, I'm your #1 fan 🙂
Your reaction was priceless though the whole movie, I loved it.
Hi watch the Clint Eastwood´s movie "Play Misty for me"(1971) it's a similar theme to "Misery"
Hey Madison, I'm your number 1 fan!🤪
WOW. WELL SHUCKS IM SIMPLY YOUR #1 FAN.
I 100% agree with NOT reading synopsis before watching becasue they do spoil the movies! They do it for parents so they know what they’re renting for their kids so I jsut don’t read the synopsis anymore.
Thanks ... Madison
These really are great reactions. I'm your number one fan. :)
Kathy’s Oscar Performance. Check out “Deloris Claiborne” ? And if you want more for SPOOK TEMBER try “The Fly” & “Invasion of the body Snatchers”1957 only.
Hey Madison, I'm your number 1 fan.
Love your shirt 🇺🇸👍🏼
I always wondered if his legs were actually injured in the crash
Great Reaction Madison
I'm your number 1 fan you dirty birdie
Annie Wilkes=the UA-cam Comments Section. Am I wrong?
another great Stephen King a must watch Green Mile
I thoroughly enjoyed your monologue after the movie! Very enjoyable!
It would be very interesting to know what you think about the series "True Detective"?
The movie creeped me out more than the book.
Great react
His legs got pretty damaged in that car wreck, or did they? I need to read the book one day
Another good movie about an author: Shakespeare in Love
Lol.' This is an authors worse nightmare!' :D ... How's your novel coming along? Have you put together a synopsis without spoilers? :)
If you havent read the book Misery its a great read!!!
I liked Buster too.
👍
Fantastic reaction, thank you!!!

More completely different from Rob Reiner - Stand by Me (a wonderful coming of age story, also from Stephen King), The Princess Bride (the best fairytale romance), When Harry Met Sally (probably the best Rom-Com ever), and Spinal Tap (hilarious comedy, rock-n-roll mockumentary).
Very differernt from _When Harry Met Sally_ too. Harry is lucky he didn't meet Annie.
Enjoyed your reaction.
I'd recommend The Mist if you like King.
You'll love the first 4 Rocky movies.
I am sorry. Buster should not have gone to Annies without backup. Come on, Police procedure 101. He knew she was a killer.
Please make the executive decision to react to Rocky 2! Loved your reaction to first movie.
Funny thing about Stephen King, most of his protagonists are self-insert writers. This is probably his best movie adaptation, both in quality and fidelity to the source material -- even if she doesn't chop his foot off with an axe -- so it was an excellent recommendation. There's probably only one other adaptation of his that I would recommend, and that's *Stand by Me.* Which has very little in common with the short story it's based on (The Body), but it's just so damn good, and so much lighter in tone, I'm sure you'll love it. Everyone will say to go with The Shining, but that's more representative of Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson than Stephen King. I have an unpopular opinion of Kubrick, so don't recommend it. And before someone yells Creepshow, remember that both 1 and 2 are inferior to Tales From the Darkside. Yeah, Stephen King is a brilliant writer, but his adaptations... they're mostly lukewarm airballs. Misery and Stand by Me definitely top the list, with Pet Sematary at a distant third.
Another banger of a reaction, as always! 😀
What about "Carrie"(1976)?
@@sparky6086 Carrie's ok, and worth a watch, I just wouldn't classify it as a must-see, like Misery and Stand by Me. It's in the Pet Sematary/Christine/The Shining middle-of-the-road category. Sissy Spacek is brilliant, and the telekinesis running rampant angle is great (and especially novel for the time), but the adaptation lost all of the charm of the novel. The book was told retrospectively, with different reports and accounts slowly painting a picture of what happened to lead to a terrible tragedy that befell an entire town. You know that something cataclysmic already happened right at the start, you just don't know what. It's almost like a mystery that you, yourself, uncover. Several different accounts slowly lead you to discover what happened -- what the Hell could have happened -- to destroy this town. It's that build-up that makes Carrie an amazing read, which the movie unfortunately had to sacrifice in favor of a beginning, middle, and end, milquetoast approach. So sure, there's nothing wrong with Carrie, it's cool. But it's miles away from what it could've been.
Ironically, the adaptation of Stephen King's *other* novel about a young girl with psychic powers, Firestarter, never gets a mention. Probably with good reason, as it's another weak adaptation, but I find it a lot more rewatchable than Carrie. And not just because you get to see a tiny little Drew Barrymore incinerate everything with her mind. Unlike The Running Man, which I 100% watch for the Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liners, haha! Now there's a completely divergent Stephen King adaptation.
Oh, hey, just remembered another Stephen King must-see: Shawshank Redemption. It's kinda like Stand by Me, in that the movie's actually better than the original short story (Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption). But don't be in a hurry to react to this one, if you haven't already, as it's such an ubiquitous staple of reaction channels that it's gotten tiresome, lol.
If you're going to look away from certain scenes how does that make this a reaction video?
Great movie . What always piss off about the movie is what happen to the sheriff (In the book it is even worse), He is such nice guy. but that is horror movies for you and that is why I almost never watch horror movies . You should watch other Steven King adaptions like Shawshank Redemption ,The Green Mile., Stand By me .
Congratulations you’re the lucky winner of the ongoing giveaway text me on telegram to claim your package
Kathy bates was amazing in this, also it's pretty sketchy having hogs in the house
