- WATCH PART TWO HERE: • Is Pokemon’s downfall ...
Pokemon is one of those franchises that manages to bridge the gap between more than one generation. Sadly its obvious that the franchise has sort of fallen of in the past decade. Lets see what went wrong with the most recent entries, and how Gamefreak had a negligent hand to play in the franchises demise.

PART TWO OUT NOW - TALKING ABOUT THE POKEMON COMPANY AND STUFF! ua-cam.com/video/uYbn58lUpBM/v-deo.html
This is what happens when people buy middle fingers.
Look to be fair about the PLA 1 step forward two back it was more of 2 steps forward 1 back because out of all the 3D main series games, scarlet and violet has been a fresh breath of air and by main series i mean X/Y, US/UM,
Sw/Sh, and S/V
Another thing to point out is that by the time PLA started development, Scarlet and Violet were well over halfway finished, and Gamefreak have very harsh release schedules so they didn't wanna go back and redo everything with the new concepts shown in PLA when by that time they only had around a year and a half to finish and they were clearly behind schedule already
Always remember, it's not greedy to demand better from a multi-billion dollar company.
"he's thinking too much!!!!!! kill him!!!!!!!!"
- pokemon fans
no, we demand equivalent quality.
Expect Game Freak isn't a multi-billion dollar company, that's Pokemon Company.
yo - how do you pronounce your name (i'm gonna feature your comment in a part 2 video and I want to know for sure)
@@VideoticCritic Me?
The problem with Pokémon lies within Game Freak being so centred on their own development that they forget studios like Monolith Soft's Kyoto office exist for the very reason of helping create massive worlds and landscapes that can still run properly on the Switch hardware
It also doesn't help that The Pokémon Company is acting quite autonomously from Nintendo. Yes, it has definitely resulted in slightly better community engagement than the tight and corporate Nintendo, but at least Nintendo cares about quality more than TPC ever will. That's why Nintendo apologized for the S/V glitches and bugs when the game launched, not TPC.
If Monolithsoft worked on Pokemon or at least helped with development, then it may be a lot better. But of course, Game Freak probably wouldn't want anyone else besides ILCA unless ILCA packs up and says "nah, we're done".
You can thank Junichi Masuda. He's proud that the Pokemon team is absurdly understaffed. And wishes he could reduce the staff even more.
@@thespamtonchannel8469 I don't think it would be better if Monolithsoft helped. They would just have a unreasonable time limit and a low budget that would make things even more difficult.
@@magnus5747 Mmm yeah true, they would get rushed somewhat.
Y'know, the biggest issue Pokemon has and faces is its fanbase. Not those actually criticising the games justifiably, but those still buying them, pre-ordering them and also complaining about them being bad games.
As long as the consumer supports shit behavior from TPC and GameFreak, why would they change anything? Sword/Shield didn't flop and sold the most copies world wide compared to any other game (although it is a cash grab) and Scarlet/Violet also has really high sells currently. Considering a lot of employees at GameFreak say "just leave it as is. its bought anyway" says a lot about how much fans are willing to get shit on and supporting that behavior.
A real problem with modern-day Pokemon games is that the deadlines are way too short, they need more time to properly develop the full games
no its the fans, pokemon fans are the problem. they keep buying trash/subpar games. scarlet/violet have no reason to reach 20+ million sales.
and its not even that they dont have the time, its also the fact that they CHOOSE to make large scale OPEN WORLD games. thats not a usual pokemon game and the good parts of SV have nothing to do with the open world, it was the story, the music and the design of pokemon and NPCs. The games would turn out better if they didnt have to make a giant world every time.
@@octoslut The majority of Pokémon fans are casuals-day-by-day people who work long hours or usually very young children. They're virtually clueless about better quality standards in video games.

they aren't as glitchy as red and blue. you can easily break red and blue in a huge amount of ways but not many for sv.
@@aqua6166 Yeah i guess, if you breathed incorrectly on red and blue i bet something would go wrong, but they had an excuse as they were on a far weaker console and were made 30 ish years earlier or something like that. So in a way its sorta worse that sv is still able to be somewhat compared
This is what happens when a company is so successful that it has no more competitiors to impress:
No more passion projects, just quotas.
Pokémon's kept putting out games every year. I think we can all agree that the games just need more time to develop. Great video!
They need to go back to the 2D sprite games. I have replayed all of those games so much but have no desire to replay nearly none of the 3D games other than maybe Pokémon x/y since mega evolution was the only gimmick I really liked.

This response from Morimoto about HGSS says it all:
Iwata:
So you’re saying that you'd like players to enjoy the kind of world view that's invoked by the titles HeartGold and SoulSilver?
Morimoto:
Very much so. In addition, as I mentioned a little earlier, we’ve been greedy in the amount of gameplay elements we’ve squeezed in there. There’s so much included that I even had colleagues saying to me: “Are you sure you should be going this far with a remake?” In that sense, it's not simply a remake - I think it's more than that. For that reason, I would like to see these games enjoyed by as large a number of people as possible.
To be fair to everyone involved we can only say that this was a present company mentality, and so in a way these decisions by Morimoto and others like him was more effort than the team was interested in putting in.
Pokemon Co. (Ohmori): “I mean it’s just a remake right, why put in more effort when the original sold well enough? It’s not like this won’t do better” (😒 BDSP)
I’m one of the few people who’s loved gen 5 since it first came out. From launch back in 2011 when I was only 11 myself I was IN LOVE with the game. It was so awesome to me and I’ll forever love gen 5 as my favorite Pokémon gen. I just love the aesthetic of Gen 5 so much and it was so unique and I’m really sad we didn’t get the gen 3 remakes during gen 5 with that aesthetic…..
I think the lack of remakes was a worthy price to pay for b2w2
@@VideoticCritic yeah I guess so. I mean I feel like they could’ve done the hoenn remakes after the sequels.
Gen 5 is the best under every aspect (except maybe the pokemon design but that's subjective)
lol im the odd one out because i still dont like these games, mostly due to the art style and not really caring about the story(has some good elements but GF really didnt want to lean into the pokemon are fighting into blood sport idea) it was meaningless and theres better stories i would like to see in a movie, not thru text boxes.
Pokémon fan-games are far better done than official releases at this point. That’s what I’ll be playing! 😅

Overall I don’t know if the issue is Nintendo, or even gamefreak. Pokémon company handles the merchandising, anime, and trading card games and since Pokémon go released (an interesting story in how Nintendo and gamefreak’s general dismissal of mobile bit them in the ass) Pokémon company came out with a bigger piece of the pie than they ever had before. Their shareholders push on the edges of gamefreak harder every year to get the game releases to line up with movie, card, and toy releases when the lay of the land used to be the exact opposite.
There are bits in scarlet and violet that tell me that people in that company legitimately want to make a good game, but games like botw had much more dev time than the last 3 pokemon game releases combined. SV came out less than a year from arceus for christs sake. Gamefreak isn’t perfect, but they need more dev time and I doubt they will recieve that any time soon so long as the merchandise continues to be the cash cow of the franchise.
Gamefreak isn't perfect, they're horrible
I bet that they allowed the whole company to grow so complex to handle all the multiple facets of the franchise that the people on top became layers and layers beyond of what the complaints coming from the fans of the games can ever reach. They have so much on their hand to handle at once that all they have the time to look at are the numbers, and those aren't going down anytime soon.
The devs from gamefreak selfinserted as Larry in pokemon sv imo and that should explain everything about what's going on there
They really tried to make Pokémon Legends Arceus a good and polished game, and it worked. But after that they should just realize Scarlet and Violet later, to get time to do the same with them...
Let's not forget that ORAS did not have the battle area that Emerald had.
True, but most people didn't even play that in Emerald. It's no excuse to have removed it, but I don't think it made the remake worse.
As a sonic fan, this is all familiar. But if Sega and sonic team can turn themselves around and release a great game like frontiers after so long, them im sure game freak and the pokemon company will too. Maybe they could take a page from their new book even.
One can only hope I want both franchises to do well
Look at other games, like PSO2NGS, and take the hint: Sonic probably won't get better.
@@henrytalley3739 sonic frontiers marked a comeback for sonic, and each dlc coming out this year is only making it better
From what I can tell, the main difference between Pokémon and sonic right now, is Pokémon insists on releasing a game every year
Frontiers took 5 years to make, and the next game won’t be coming for a few years, and sonic has multiple side games coming out all the while because they aren’t afraid of working with partner companies
@@henrytalley3739 the sonic team is almost completely new, set aside the directors, they took the time they needed to make a decent sonic game and learn what makes sonic good

@@GlytchGames the main difference is when Sonic games are shit they don't make good sales so they're forced to be good or no one will buy them.
Same can't be said with Pokemon
One thing that really irked me about the fandom was a bunch of responses to Scarlet/Violet's bugginess and how hurried it seemed. There were a lot of opinions that went along the lines of "Game Freak doesn't owe us anything, we should be grateful we at least have Pokemon games!" and how despite the games having potentially game-breaking errors, they were still "fun to play".
That's a pretty bad mindset. Other companies were thrashed for delivering subpar products. Bethesda gets dragged to the ground for things like Fallout 76, CDPR for Cyberpunk and currently Blizzard for the lies involving Overwatch.
Why do Game Freak and Nintendo have a free pass?
well, this video exists among many other critisms of the current state of pokemon and the comments here are pretty unhappy with the games as well, so I wouldn't exactly say that GF and nintendo get a free pass. they receive pretty harsh criticism as well but I think the main reason for the futility of it all is a classic case of "too big to fail". there's nothing like pokemon and there will probably never be. if a company releases yet another triple A rpg game which the market is already oversaturated with, so be it. people will play a different one. it's not like they don't have a choice. with pokemon however, what are you really going to play to satisfy your pokemon needs? gameplay wise, there's hundreds of games like it, but better, sure. but it still doesn't have all the unique and yet familiar monsters that people grew up with. and it's not like this cycle is ever going to end I'm afraid because there will always be a generation that is being raised playing pokemon, thus laying the very foundation for future nostalgia to always pull them right back into that universe.
"Game freak doesn't owe us anything"
Umm yeah they do. Like do those "fans" know that we're paying $60 (and that's just ONE version) for those games? At this point, Pokemon will just give us a turd with a pikachu face slapped in it that costs just as much as tears of the kingdom and they will still defend it to death.
There’s genuinely trying to be “fair” to someone/something and then there’s trying to deflect responsibility on part of another because of a perceived sense of ownership/priority.
Yeah realistically what Pokemon Co/GF get is more or less tantamount to either a “verbal” lashing (“harsh criticism”) or a slap on the wrist compared to other companies. I guess even in a highly meritocratic society as Japan money and fame can insulate lazy behaviors and questionable senior staff mentality (Ohmori and Masuda)
@@QP9237 Basically, yes. Game Freak got it lightly, compared to how people badmouth say, EA, Blizzard, Rockstar, Bethesda, etc; when they screw up. Look at the PC version of the Last of Us, people are tanning the developers' hides for how terrible and buggy it is despite the game being a very beloved property when it came out. But this will to excuse Game Freak as if they were a toddler who dropped a jar of cookies by mistake, speaks awfully about Pokémon fans.
Nintendo fans have been letting Pokemon get away with anything they want for years now.
In Arceus the flute you play is an untextured white cylinder with textures on everything else that isn't a pokemon model being worse than Mario Kart Double Dash. People called it the best Pokemon game since opinions 180'd on B/W.
GF insists on rushing pokemon games out yearly but doesnt get any help from different development studios to create a proper experience. it is literally just like they’re duct taping a game together and shipping it out in order to fulfill a deadline.

Want to know another company that’s having a similar fate to Pokemon?
Disney!
Disney is also going downhill too as their movies & TV shows have performed poorly recently! All 3 of their main movies bombed the box office, which shows that they’re going downhill too!
The moment movie companies stopped coming out with original shit and stuck to remakes, that is when hollywood started to go down hill.
The last Pokemon Generation I enjoyed was Gen 7. The music, the Hawaiian-like locale, the characters and the story were fun and memorable. When I played SWSH, something felt off the whole playthrough and now I know why. The franchise's soul was beginning to fade away.
I agree, I loved gen 7
Finally someone said it. I remember the magic of gen 4. My first game was Soul Silver back in 2010 and I loved it. The world was huge, detailed and even though I would later come to know that this game was a remake of a pair of games that came out years prior it still felt like a perfect starting point. I'd eventually go back and play the sinnoh gen 4 games, the games that released before those, go onto gen 5, gen 6 and would eventually stop playing around gen 7 since I would move on to focus on studies and other irl things as I got older. I recently got a switch last year and I'm just getting to switch pokemon games and apart from lets go pikachu/lets go eevee (which looked horrible due to preconceived notions amongst other things but done its job well enough) and Legends arceus, the switch era games have been sourly lacking in depth, quality and understanding, all of which were mostly present in the older games. Now with the hollow/incredibly rushed games that are scarlet and violet as well as the pokemon home nonsense, disappointment and half baked releases are the norm. It's sad to see the video game series that helped shape my childhood reach such lows due to corporate greed and neglect but hopefully things can change. Thanks for making this video
I've gotten so burnt out or utterly disappointed from the mainline pokemon games that spinoff titles such as the PMD games or even fan made ones are far more entertaining and worthwhile.
Yea, it's real annoying how despite it being a multi billion dollar company they stopped caring about the games after the 3ds (and yes x and y gets a pass) but I disagree that scarlet and violet has no magic anymore. There isn't any effort anymore in the coding but some elements, like characters are still full of life and despite the somewhat abhorrent glitches and design choices the two most recent are fun to play
You cant even enter like 90% of buildings in the game bro that sucks
There are several reasons for this
*Understaffed*
Gamefreak purposely keep their dev team small to have better communication throughout making a game as they still have the mentality that they're an small indie studio. So this keeps costs of the pkmn co payint them relatively low compared.
*Out of time*
Sadly being understaffed it has them need take more time The Pkmn Co do not give them, so a 3rd Iterations were 95% same game is re-released being the definitive edition; Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Ultra Sun/Moon etc. Now a days just patch it later, with SwSh and especially SV.
*Spaghetti code*
its no secret Gamefreak transitioning to full 3D since X&Y a decade ago, they've struggled to find their footing in designing landscapes and propering applying 3D models for their games ever since. Other game developers went under the hood to point out how godawful their coding is for 3D games. Clearly they should have stayed 2D.
*Nearly 30 years same franchise* Gamefreak has been develeoping mainline pkmn games since it's inception. Some devs on recorded stated pkmn is secondary for them. You'd get sick of working on the same damn thing for decades can be mindnumbing and feel stagnant and I don't blame them for this. They've done numerous small indie titles throughout as you see they wanna do something different than what the pkmn co wants them to do. Project Bloom is a new IP they're working on, very different from anything else based off concept art. Finally they can truly branch outside of pkmn.
*Conclusion*
Its abundantly clear, Gamefreak are no longer a good fit for the mainline pkmn games anymore. Their once passionate demeanor like (with Gen 2 remakes) for example is long gone. Unfortunately the pokemon company do not care and continue using them when obviously Bandi Namco (pkmn snap 2 & pokken) and Monolift Soft (BoTW & Xenoblade) would be better devs for the franchise as some examples.
Don't forget to mention that GF has split its dev in 2 teams. That's why we've got Arceus and S&V with 1 year delay....... you can see a lot of freelances in the credits... this can't give good results at the end. They need to grow their team. They must grow with the next "Switch".... or get back to a 2d/3d style, or give a chance to another studio for a spin-off to give them more dev time. No many solution at this point.
as soon as the natdex got cut, that was the moment i was done
I love the fact we still dont have multiple saves... that isnt a hard feature to implement.
I admit I got Gen 8, with the DLC. Dexit killed my love for the franchise, but wanted to see what Game Freak will do in exchange for a dex cut. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt, hoping Home allowed you to interact with the Pokémon in there like the Poke Pelago. But no, Home is just Pokémon Bank with global trading. I always loved to transfer my collection forward, which started from Gen 3. I refused to go forward after seeing how bare Gen 8 is, INCLUDING the DLC , and haven't supported the franchise ever since. My collection still is inside my Ultra Moon game. The last game where I can interact with everyone in the same game.
Same here.
I left everything in Gen 6, most of my competitive, mystery gift and events pokemon are still in pokemon X and some in Alpha Sapphire, now i don't enjoy new games and it's sad because i hoarded a lot of legendaries in B/W era negotiating with other people using emoticons to say yes or no(it was fun)
Ever since gen 7 you could tell that the franchise was being run dry & into the ground. Now games are annual, with rushed development & disappointing results. It’s gotten to the point that even the spinoffs(especially GO) has started to suffer, when before they were hidden gems of each gen.

It all started when Pokemon stopped making movies. I really think the magic was gone when that happened. The Pokemon Go fever in 2016 should have led Pokemon to make an open world game like Genshin Impact or Legend of Zelda. They could have built upon that open world instead of making a new game every other year and focus more on marketing and movie making.

Pokemon just got way too big. Now companies will neglect the IP and it will start to go down.
Every element of pokemon is suffering right now - every branch, from the TCG, to GO, to the mainline games and spinoffs... I personally think it's a leadership issue somewhere high up. Nothing kills a franchise like internal politics.

It's why Horizons is objectively a step in the right direction (at least so far) and the point where the anime really changed. 2. Once you complete the game and the Zero Area, the game becomes incredibly boring with little to no post game content other than shiny hunting.

There is just something that I would like to say as I want to work in game development (and soon will) and know quit a bit about how it works and how it goes.
I agree with you on the fact that Pokemon is definitely disappointing, and I feel the exact same way. But I am not quit sure Gamefreak is to blame, or at least not as much as people give it credit for.
As a comment stated below, we talk about multi-billion dollar company. But the multi-billion dollar company is not gamefreak, they are developer, the multi-billion dollar company is Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, Gamefreak makes money from it, but the deadlines, the crunches, the little team is not something that they decide. The people who decide these things are the executive, watching every of your step and move and asking you to prove that your are "worth keeping" by demanding insane work.
So I think that really, if we want to blame someoneit should be those executives (who by the way make much more money than any developer).
So, I don't know if I can do that here, tell me if not and I will remove this part, but I recommend another video essay, made by Yaggo about AAA games.

I hopped off after Gen 2 because that was the clear peak for the franchise. all you ever get with decades of the same thing being regurgitated out are diminishing returns and the producer of the product caring less and less with each new product. it is unlikely to get better.
A good number of people has been making genuinely good and fun rom hacks of the Pokémon games. If you can get a good game (within limits) from a fan alone, you should be able to expect something good from a team and a company selling you something.
Nobody's thinking it, so I'll just say it:
It's because they're Still making 2 versions rather than one big and better Pokemon mainline game.
Yes, it's also because GF/TPC/Nintendo suck and just churn em out because the zombie fans consume regardless, but, it's Also because they're spending 2yrs working on 2versions in the era of Internet, Wonder Trade, GTS and Pokemon Bank, and No One has even brought this up as an issue.
Just give us the completed "3rd Version" instead of 2 similar with the difference of 7-15 different pokemon to increase profits.
Look at LetsGo, a decent enough R&B remake, but why not add Johto region into that game to give new players the experience of playing G&S, too??!!... Because they wasted time making 2 versions rather than "Pokemon LetsGo" with a ft to choose either Pikachu or Eevee as your starter.
Also also, there are too many Gat Damn new pokemon to keep up with.
That's one of GF excuses as to why animations are the same with bland textures and no national dex: because there are too many pokemon (their words).. Well then, chill. Quit making new lame design pokemon. Bring back and design new megas. Take us back to past regions but decades later with huge dramatic changes. Anything!
Just not the same lame story of a 10yr old of a single mum becoming champion in a year.
There's a reason Gen 5 is considered peak pokemon.. Because it's adult themes.
Kids aren't stupid, as GF like to say and make out, but today's adults Are.
"Dozens of grown men and probably three women has crawled out of their parents basement for halo two" That made me laugh as female gamers at that time where non-existent, ha ha.

If their management of Project Gear during the 2010s was any consideration, GameFreak wanted to drop Pokemon for a long time. Pokemon was simultaneously their greatest achievement and biggest burden.
when you see the amount of fan made games people love now...gamefreak are not trying anymore.
Lack of development time (3 years aren't enough), small development team (their own fault for not being bigger cause "they don't want to end up like Blizzard"), the focus being more on merchandising, the cards, the anime, etc. Plus just going to 3-D was just too much, I feel like it would've been better to go 2D-HD like Octopath Traveler, keeps the awesome sprite work but now its even more beautiful
Scarlet and Violet's story is good at least.
Yea, the story was awesome. naclstack salt curing all the titan pokemon left a lasting impression. I loved when he said, "It's salt curing time." And proceeded to salt cure all over the place. *wipes tear* Truly a powerful moment in writing.
@@shatteredsentient5321bruh shut up
@@shatteredsentient5321 Naclstack isn't in all the Titan Pokémon. Neither is it's evolutionary line unless the player uses it, nor can it speak.
@Shattered Sentient Yeah I thought it was so cool when he said, "Its salt curing time." A true hero.
Honestly even that aspect Id say is more middling. Penny's story is cool for folks who can relate i guess, but "sympathetic team you fight" has been done better before and tied to probably the worst gameplay format in the game.
Arven is the "my single parent kinda sucks" plot that has also been done better before. Hard carried by the "boy and his dog" sob story angle it starts as but the professor and area zero stuff are meh and exposition dumped in the last hour, I think literally. In relation to him anyway, the actual world complications of paradox mons and all that is interesting at least.
Nemona is the best because they aren't trying to do anything super deep with her but ultimately repeating past stuff worse. She's just your rival but a fun unique take on one. Little tinge of sad past but it ain't insane and mostly hinted in post game iirc. Her attachment to you definitely requires one to just accept "yeah I'm the main character, whatever" for it to make sense though lol.
All of this can be laid at the feet of Masuda.
There are interviews of him during the development of SoulSilver and HeartGold where he just seems so determined and ebullient about adding new content to the old games. He wants to make great games, and he isn’t jaded yet.
Everyone knows that the last great mainline Pokemon games were BW2. That game was bursting at the seams with good content.
But for some reason, the fans weren’t for it. For some reason I still can’t wrap my mind around, the average Pokemon player DID NOT LIKE THOSE GAMES. You can see them complaining in old forum posts.
Once X/Y hit, the games started SUBTRACTING content, and then Masuda starts giving interviews about how kids have short attention spans, and too much content is bad for some reason.
The final nail in the coffin of Masuda’s passion was Pokemon Go. Once he saw how shitty a game could be and still print money, he became jaded.
He talks about this in interviews for the gen3 remakes. He justifies getting rid of the battle frontier with perplexing responses like “we have to compete with cell phones”, and the attention span thing again.
Sad, as he seems to have forgotten that it was mainly kids who played the original games that “required a bigger attention span” or whatever.
So he’s entirely at fault. He’s lost touch with the players. He doesn’t care about making good games anymore.
And this will NEVER change. We will never get high quality mainline games for this franchise again. Dumb people buy these expensive ass games by the score. It’s way too big to fail.
Best thing to do is just play a fan game. Plenty have improved on Masuda’s failure.
Good video. Wish it were longer. You can criticize GameFreak for far much more than this.
ORAS were the last great mainline games, the only thing that sucked about them was Gamefreak blueballing us with battle frontier, everything else was amazing.
EDIT: To be clear I fully agree that Masuda is the big reason pokemon has gone down the drain.
hey - do you know where to find these interviews? I'm working on a sequel video and it would be fantastic to have those clips.
dont speak for me as xy were great
will waht pokemon s and v masdua lfit before these games were made so who the one who mising shit up now
I still remember those shitting on BW2 days. Folks wanna sing a different tune now, but the fans really were the ones that felt like they were on a deadline back then. "Why are we still using sprites on the DS when the 3ds has been out!? Cmon Pokemon, get with the times!" Nowadays you can't turn the corner without seeing a poke fan on the internet grief and ache over gen 5's sprite work and how the main game's visual charm was lost going to 3d. They repeated basically the same thing going from Gen 7 into gen 8, "Get off the 3ds, it's dead even if its still getting games! Switch mons now, get with the times Pokemon!"
The companys are the ones making the shitty deadlines still, don't get me wrong. It's definitely their fault on somehow the most functional main switch pokemon games being the first ones with let's go. But this fanbase in particular definitely shouldn't act like they've always been a collective bastion of patience and a desire for quality control. At least they're learning now I guess, the shift from Arceus to SV was way too drastic and quick for anybody to ignore, especially when no one was pushing for gen 9 and just enjoying a cool new entry.
HGSS is the best in my opinion, because of my bias to Gen II. But man Unova was definitely the greatest display of Pokémon.
Whats really sad is the more people I talk to about why they buy pokemon games. A majority of fans tell me they buy the games out of OBLIGATION. Really think about what that means! People buy Pokemon games not to have fun but because they think of it more as a tradition to try and recapture their nostalgia from when they first played the games as kids. That is depressing to me.
People forget it's not fully Gamefreak's fault, it's mostly Nintendo and Pokémon Company's fault
I dont know. Everywhere i go everyones complaining about the recent pokemon but its been that way since gen 4/5 and now everyone looks back fondly. I think the same is gonna be case now and i personally like all the new games, even if scarlet and violet had some quality issues
There needs to be a course correct for Gamefreak or Pokemon Franchise will fall to obscurity. For 4 consecutive Generations, Pokemon has been too lack luster and the only good game to come out of this is Pokemon Arceus, which is not a main line game. That is how far it has fallen if a spinoff is 10,000 times better than the main line. Please Gamefreak, Pokemon Company, and Nintendo. Please listen to us and help make Pokemon what it once was back in the day.
Would explain why I am trying subconsciously trying to find PokeRivals in Steam mainly, I don't even hate Pokemon. I just missed their wonder and magic.
"gen 5 may get a shit-ton of hate"
this has not been true for for the better part of 6 years
I love your video! And yeah, with the 2D games I think it was easier to make a good game within that time frame. Now with trying to make big 3D and open world titles, they need A LOT more time to perfect it. Right now it’s way too rushed and it all looks and runs like shit. They won’t ever care though cause ppl keep buying it no matter what. 😅
I dont think pokemon gains anything from being in 3D, the type of game it is suits 2D alot better
@@kazzykaioken8873 I mean I think 2D looks good too but a lot of fans and new fans would prefer a 3D game like the rest of them so they probably make more money like this. Cause a lot of children like the series cause it’s mainly a kids thing. I just think they need to make them better cause it’s literal trash.
but what are they gonna do next?
I played sword more than I played violet, after I finished the game and the post game, I put it down since I just lost interest in spending hours on EV training pokemon and battling online, even catching shiny wasn’t fun since they were too easy
I feel like once pokemon go came out the quality of the main line games fell. Gamefreak like that pokemon go money
Born 1983 play pokemon when it first came out
I loved Legends Arceus and I finally had good hope for the franchise. I did enjoy Scarlet/Violet (especially the story, it was really bold and new imo for a Pokémon game) but I just kept playing and thinking "why did they remove that! Why did they remove this! Why does the game feel so clunky and broken!". I was very disappointed...
Pokemon Black and White was inarguably one of the best last games of the franchise and I'm happy those are the first ones I owned and play by my own
Amazing story, lore and the story was dark enough yet appealing. And let's not talk about the iconic Accumula Town them song that became so popular these years, I was singing along that shit since I heard it, it was so sticky.
Pokemon X and Y was accpetable for me, introducing the MegaEvolutions, something we all desired, nice and dark lore, hidden too Zigarde. Then Ruby Saphire remake and then...
Sun and moon in my opinnion is where everything started going to shit: Changed the beloved gym formula, new oneshot gamechanging moves that made the game trivial and turn it into an easy mode and the style was really childish.
After all that they trie to change the formula once again and try pokemon in open world, we asked for it but at that time every open world game that wasn't Elden Ring was bad, lacking, and poorly made just to stick to the new trend and add even more shit that made the game more trivial or just didn't made any sense
For me Pokemon Black and White was and will always be the Last Best Game they really had.
When you phrase it like that it gave me a sense of Peace. If Gen 5 was their ideals in Pokemon realized, then Gamefreak has never been trying to make a game I like or respect.
Finding a random bug in a cave with no story and calling it meaningful. To me that is the laziest worst way you could do it. But that is what they have always idealized about the series.
This has been obvious to me ever since they took away mega evolution lmao
Pokemon fans: 20+ millions
Gamefreak fans?: *cricket noises*
I believe that it all boils down to company morals since gamefreak and the team who makes Zelda games are vastly different I character.
I wish

I didn't play White 2 cuz i don't have it but i do have thousand of hours in White and it is my favourite pokemon game ever
I tried to finish a save of BDSP recently that I started long ago. I just can’t deal with the ridiculous over world design which is even used for cut scenes. I end up switching to a new play through of Ultra Sun. Even with graphic resolution heavily “worse” than BDSP, the characters still looked like people and engaged me in the gameplay. Game Freak knows how to make good games, but they outsourced BDSP and created junk visuals. What sucks is that we know that Ilca cared because of the work done on the Grand Underground and the competitive AI sets. I think Game Freak probably only allowed them to re-skin the original Diamond and Peal. The good news is they left Platinum untouched, so there is still hope for a good remake at some point (much like how Let’s Go remade Yellow), but it will be a long while.
Remind me of Disney but the videogaming of the industry..
The only thing I'll defend GF about here is the National dex at the end of the video. In a perfect world yea every game would have the national dex out the gate, but this becomes an increasingly more unrealistic ask each gen that goes by. And for me personally, even if every Switch title shipped with the full national dex that wouldn't even remotely budge any numerical grade I'd give the games. Scarlet & Violet would still be a fundamentally incomplete, janky, dated mess of a game no matter how many Pokemon were crammed into it.
We could say nintento to, and the pokemon company. I think I heard in another video that it is Nintendo who demands a game every year, and that the budget that gamefreak is given to make the game is not enough to hire the number of people needed to do that.
I need the money for the rest of the mainline ds Pokémon games and a DS

First time Pokémon isn’t in the top 5 best selling games of the console they released on, the decline is here
I've only ever played Pokémon Omega Ruby _(and a little bit of Pokémon X, but I didn't finish it because I borrowed it from a friend for a little bit),_ but I totally agree that GameFreak has gotten *SUPER* lazy with the Pokémon brand and that Pokémon has lost its magic. Omega Ruby was one of my favorite games when I was younger, and I couldn't tell you how many hours I poured into that game because I loved it so much. I wanted to play Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon when those came out, but my mom told me that I was "too old for Pokémon" _(yet, to this day, she lets me play Kirby, Sonic, and Mario, but that's besides the point),_ and to be honest, I think I should be thanking her in hindsight. It pains me that GameFreak has gotten so lazy, especially considering that Pokémon is one of the highest selling media franchises of all-time. It's so embarrassing, really. Not only for people that know how bad their recent games like Scarlet and Violet are, but also for Nintendo themselves. They have such high quality games and good game developer teams on their shoulders, yet here's GameFreak doing the absolute bare minimum and having their games become the best-selling Switch games. There are so many better Switch games to play, some of which cost _less_ than Scarlet/Violet. Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Omori, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Persona 5, etc. Games that are actually *_finished_* on release. Sure, some of the recent Nintendo games feel "empty" or lack content on launch, but at least they *fully function,* unlike most of the recent Pokémon games _(and most Triple A game studios these days, but that's a completely different topic for another day)._
And the worst part? GameFreak keeps getting away with it, because they know they can, and they know their "beloved fans" will defend them no matter how low they go. GameFreak _knows_ they can get away with doing the bare minimum. And not only that, but they have the *gall* to charge EXTRA for DLC for broken games and extra subscriptions *and wanting you to buy the other games because you cannot trade Pokémon with someone playing a different game than you AND for a Pay To Win game. **_And it keeps working._*
It honestly _frightens me_ when people say that their favorite game on the Switch is Scarlet/Violet or any of the other recent Pokémon games, because there are *_so many better games on the Switch, made with love and effort._* I *_despise_* GameFreak and the people who defend them and their broken, unfinished, unpolished games. But, they'll probably never learn and keep going lower somehow given how Scarlet and Violet became the best-selling Switch games instantly and became the best-selling Switch game worldwide, because Pokémon sells. But I guess that begs the question:
*How low is GameFreak willing to go?*
Oh dang your mom also said Pokémon is too little for you
@@TTV_Rxan She got a point though, these new games are just slop and you know young kids will consume any slop, its why youtube kids is even successful
I think it started going downhill after they added the gimmicks.
Mega evolution was cool but got discontinued. Z moves were goofy and felt bad to use. Gigantimax was kind of cool? But made the game too easy. Tera is just dumb.
They need to ditch the gimmicks and go back to the tried and true formula. Held items and abilities were enough, we didn't need gimmicks. Gens 1-5 were good without them, why do we need all these temporary gimmicks??
I'd be perfectly happy if pixel Pokemon games came back. I think Gamefreak excels in this. Imagine how beautiful a modern pixel art game could look today.
Pokémon’s place In culture has cemented itself to where it’s less profitable to put time and effort into making amazing games than it is to rush out games on a tight schedule. It’s like using _The Producers_ as a business model. Of course this business model can’t last forever if they can’t hold the adult audience because Pokémon is losing relevance with the younger audience. So hopefully we get our Zelda TotK-level Pokèmon game eventually.
Yeah, since pokemon Sun and Moon came out, I noticed that they just wanted to drop pokemon. And all the New pokemon games are so so lame they have no good store.
If I was stuck remaking the same basic game over and over again for twenty years I would probably stop caring too.
I still feel the hurt of how could they abandoned legend arceus that was a great game, with bugs but they never go that hard as s/v
