I worked as a bathroom remodeler for just 4 months before I realized the industry is a bit of a scam. Good for you guys for taking it on yourself….it was definitely the right decision!
Love the video guys, and good on you for having a go and saving heaps of money in the long run. Love the singing too Kevin, when working on big you have to keep yourself entertained. keep up the good work.
Great job, Kevin! You never cease to amaze me w your ability to figure things out and get the job done. 👍 Looking forward to seeing the van build though! ❤
You guys can totally do it yourselves and probably do it better. My shower also needs to be redone and I fully intend to do all but a check on the plumbing myself.
Bathfitter is the biggest scam going. Awful. You could have the entire bathroom redone with all brand new fixtures for less than the rip off bathfitter tub and surround. I have no idea why people choose bathfitter. It's a cheap quality product that isn't even cheaper than the alternative.
Love your videos! We too have a 89 roadtrek we love working on. You guys remind us of our younger self. Goof to see hard work pays off. Love the neighbor. LOL
Exactly. Money buys you time to do other things with your life. Also, most people are not experienced with plumbing, and plumbing has a way of going very bad, very quickly. If you have the time and know what you’re doing, do it yourself. Otherwise call in the professionals and protect your sanity.
So how much did you save in comparison? We just got quoted at $24,000 for just a shower/tub and shower only. We were thinking about bath fitters. Now may try on our own.
Be careful Kev. I tried something similar and now I have to have a belly button surgery in December. Always have a second person if you can with the heavy stuff. Hey, can you ask Taylor if she thinks the recovery is going to be brutal? I’m dreading it. Ty!!!
Thanks John will do! Tay said recovery shouldn’t be too bad so that’s good, And if ya can be nice to the nurses they’re there to help! 😊 I hope the surgery goes well and recovery is fast! 👍🏻
Just asking, as i m currently trying to catch up wih your vids, but seems to me the mic isnt working great in the 2 first new van build and this video aswell… just asking.
Hey Samuel! Thanks for the insight, I’m not aware of any issues, but it could be due to the distance from the mic, is it just volume or quality is not good?
@@MathersOnTheMap Volume / distance ? Seems strange to me that with an external mic, volume is so low. Anyway, just wanted to flag it. Keep the vids coming guys :-)
Seriously guys, everything you post I am gonna watch gladly, even Taylor making a late breakfast. Consider me a convert - your videos make early afternoons so much more pleasant, even despite the fact I’ve got work to do that’ll be over in the evening. Cheers🙂 And, btw, the Iceland trip in August was unforgettable😉
@@MathersOnTheMap When you are done in Jersey, come over to Poland - my bathroom needs some redecorating. I’ll provide all the meals and accommodation😉
Hi, can’t see where they came up with the quote of 11,200. I sometimes think these ridiculous quotes are designed to get you to turn it down as they don’t really want to do the job.
$60/hr x 8 hrs x 4 days x 2 people = $3,840 $4,000 on material add 40% profit margin = $10,976 this doesn't mean the workers get paid 60/hr its just the rate, same way a mechanic shop charges 80-120/hr but pays 25-35 hr its actual mechanic. reason I put 4000 for material is because "bathroom fitters" has a more "high quality/professional" tub/showers than a big box store. hourly rate is also dependent on location and the reason its so high is because its a way of protection, when there is a problem on the project and the company goes over its budgeted hours it has to foot the bill on a lump-sum contract.
I’m not a bath fitter fan but don’t forget I assume they will do the job legally with a licensed plumber and would pull permits. It’s not a fair comparison.
@@kneehats2311 hi, you’re the second person to comment trying to justify the ridiculous quote. It was a tiny bathroom with wet services already there. I don’t understand your ready acceptance of such a ridiculous quote for what they claimed would be 2 days work. I know they are professionals but you’ve got to ask yourself if their work is really five times better than doing it yourself. They certainly appear to be charging 5 times as much. Sorry for the rant, I don’t mind paying a professional but the quote was ridiculous. I would like to know if they had other quotes for comparison. That might shed some light.

And shoutout neighbor Glenn 😂when you guys blow up you have to get him a jacuzzi
Haha for sure!!!
They quoted me 7500 because I had water in between the liner and the tub.
Just got done with it myself 26 bucks and a little sealant

No matter how you cut it, you're up 9-10K and a better man for figuring that out. Thanks for sharing!
Appreciate it Owen, I agree!
I have seen 3showers that bathfitters. They were beautiful and done in one day. The customers are happy with their walk in showers

You didn't use any waterproof boards on the side and the floor. Does that pass the code?
Y'all are the cutest! And yes, PEX is the bomb!!
Thanks Susie!!!
Looks great!
Thanks Wyatt!!!
That is a lot of repairing and fixing the shower!
Haha that it is Ryan!!
Great work. Bathfitters don't care like you do. They just cover up the old stuff. You picked the best choice. Looking forward to the finished product.
Thanks Bill! We were SHOCKED with the price. Can’t wait to get it all done
I just had my condo tub/shower replaced with a walk in shower. Yes, it was forking expensive at $11K plus but it was done in two days.
pros and cons!
What a ripoff

If that's all BathFitters gave you an estimate for you got off light.
Do you guys always eat breakfast like that?! 🤤 Well done on the reno... came up nice.
Most of the time, yes!!! haha
11k? I just got quoted 20k for converting a standup shower to a tub (72”). Am I taking crazy pills?
72" is very large, 60" is standard, you could be paying for the extra length. That's a lot of extra material
Saw the shirt up over the nose. You have got to have a mask or 20 lying around the home.
Haha yes I eventually got one!
It's too bad that Van Life is so popular and gives builders license to charge these rates.
Haha bathfitters is charging $11,200 because of van life?!

Bath fitters fail overtime either with the drain or overflow
Yea we are super happy we didn’t end up going with them… and so is our bank account haha!
Because Bath Fitter doesnt replace any of the plumbing or put waterproof boards behind the walls
Bathfitter would have done it in a day it's taking you a week unpaid. So 11000 doesn't sound so bad
As usually all labor is done by man, woman just providing moral support.
