I feel like the rewatchable movie can be split into two categories. The comfort movie - Movies I come back to to just let yourself live in for a while. Stuff like any Wes Anderson movie, Ratatouille, Sing Street and Inception fall into those categories for me. The layered movie - Stuff that always has little details to notice. Anything by Kaufman or Edgar Wright falls here. Of course there's the overlap of stuff like Hot Fuzz, any Park Chan Wook movie, Night Is Short Walk On Girl, etc. Even some movies that are insanely messed up I just get an itch to rewatch like Zone Of Interest and Oldboy. Such an underrated movie topic and I'm so glad you made this vid.
My favorite rewatches are Speed Racer, Little Women, The Nice Guys, Tenet, Fury Road. Little Women is a comfort watch, the rest I think have to do with either being badass, funny, or a combination of both
I do agree, although my particular idiosyncratic preferences in movies I rewatch eagerly are a tad different :) Having special tastes for non-mainstream movies lead to rewatching things few people I know would revisit repeatedly. For instance, I'm a huge Eric Rohmer fan, and I can't count how many times I rewatched 'My Night at Maud's' or 'A Summer Tale'. These are a few movies that comfort me too and that bring me immeasurable pleasure, as though they were designed on my very own tastes :): (in no particular order) * All About Eve * Annie Hall * L'Avventura * La Dolce Vita * The Philadelphia Story * Eyes Wide Closed * The Lord of the Rings trilogy * Vivement Dimanche! * The Party (Sellers) * Midnight in Paris * The Omen (the 1st) * The Exorcist * Coogan's Bluff !! (yes!) * Gran Torino and lots of others.
For me, the rewatchability of a movie is one way that I am able to distinguish a general masterpiece movie from an all time favourite of mine. If a movie is pretty much perfect in every way yet I don’t really fancy rewatching it that much (which usually happens for me with bleaker films), I will rate it much lower in my mind than a movie I could rewatch at any time. There have been many movies where, everytime I watch them, the first thing I think is “man, I just want to watch it again” and to me, that’s a clear sign that it is one of my favourites. The reason I immediately called Whiplash one of my top 3 favourite films as soon as I saw it for the first time is because I actually rewatched it the day after my initial viewing because I loved it so much. Most of my top 10 favourite movies are movies which I can watch 3 times in one year without getting sick of and that is ultimately why they are my favourites Why do I rewatch them? I dunno, I just like going into a film knowing I’ll love it. I don’t feel like I need to try as hard to pay attention and appreciate everything as I’m already doing that passively. Plus, there’s always something new to latch on to and it’s always fun to find a new detail when rewatching I’d say that the most rewatchable for movies me are… Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Whiplash, Whisper of the Heart, Shaun of the Dead, Ed Wood and Fantastic Mr Fox
this channels always so good, for me the most rewatchable films are Fantastic Mr Fox, Shaun Of the Dead, Sing Street, Ratatouille, Paddington 2 and La La Land.
YEAHH EXACTLY I THINK THE SAME AND I WANNA BE A SCREENWRITER AND DIRECTOR ONE DAY I love your videos! And I do think I do hold some movies closer to my heart than others
For me im not interesting in rewatching a movie even though i love it so much because i dont have that much time. I would rather watch something new to expand my film collection.
0:29 how does eraserhead give you comfort? It is a wildly fascinating movie but it is far from comfortable to watch in my opinion. Edit: nevermind, you answered my question in the video. Also wanted to mention that you are a very underrated youtube channel :)

Have you ever watched or heard of the 1973 horror film, Messiah of Evil? It’s such a strange movie, but I can’t help but be enchanted by it.
I haven't yet, I just took a look at it and it looks really fascinating! I'll definitely be checking it out soon.
