Silver Lake, as far as I know, is the only place in Michigan that has dunes that vehicles are allowed on. It’s fun to head up there a couple times a year.
Right. Definitely one of the quieter weekends I’ve been out there. I once went in October before it closed for the year and we had the place to ourselves.
@@TrailExpedition thank you! Is the top flat enough that I will have time to slow down once I’m at the top. My irrational fear is accidentally pulling some Evel Knievel stunt and I will then be outed as the total Noob that I am. 😂👀
@@TrailExpedition thank you brother I just went yesterday and had a blast in my gx460. No issues on stock tires. For anyone reading this with a gx lock your center diff. I noticed a big difference on the sand locked and unlocked.
I’ve been here my whole life and never even knew something like this existed! Have 2 go
You gotta try it out! Get your tags, flag, and air down those tires!
Ive never been to Michigan, sure didn't know it had sand dunes. Looked fun

Silver lake is a beautiful area with gorgeous dunes you can tackle or just watch the fun.
@tmc6228 agreed.
Reminds me of Desert Storm! We did a lot of that. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely lots of sand out there!
Also, thank you for your service. I did some time in Iraq and Afghanistan while in the Air Force 🫡
Looks like a quiet day on the dunes, it's nice to have relaxing days like this.
Those are my favorite times to go!
I see the new Dune ready entrance looks pretty efficient.. Hoping to get out there this year again.
Yeah that’s the first I’ve seen it. Kinda nice!
HAHHAA happy to see ya in my neighbor hood man!! Tons of wooded trails near by man!
I need to get up there and find some! Much prefer trails over dunes. Have any coordinates of trails in the area?
Definitely so man there is a lot around, I’m more of a trail and overlander any info you need in this area I got ya man
Cool, thanks! Any specific trailhead I should look for when I’m up there next? Crossroads to look for?
Just sent ya a message via IG
Looks like the dunes are pretty calm this year so far

@@TrailExpedition nice yeah we like to go on Sundays to the park and it's the same way we basically get it to ourselves
That’s always nice!
I’m going Friday for the first time. Do you remember what your speed was going up that first hill?
Honestly couldn’t tell you. Once you get passed the woops at the bottom, just peg it. Having low tire pressure is key to getting up test hill.

The last time I was there, it was very flat on the top so plenty of room to slow down. However, the dunes are constantly changing. Have fun!
Were you wheelin in 4hi/traction control off the whole time or were there parts to go in 4lo?
I honestly stick in four low most of not all the time. I don’t feel the need to drive fast through the dunes.
You should be in control of the times of going up and down again
In my country, the sand is so soft that it is annoying 🙂
I would imagine it would be easy to get stuck in.
I liked the video!
Thank you! I try to put out the best videos I can. You’ll have to check out some of our other trips!
You said at the beginning they check your plates to make sure u have all the right tags! What sort of tags do u need?
The Michigan ORV and ORV Trail Tags. I think it’s around $45-$50 for both of them and good for all year.
where is the best place to get a flag?
You can order them online or you can buy one right at the entrance to the dunes. There are two shops there that sell all kinds of off-road items.

Right on. Good to hear it was a pleasant experience. Low tire pressure is key for floating on the sand as opposed to sinking into it.
