Enjoy your Z! Mine was T-boned in 2017 and I moved on to other cars since, but I still have dreams about driving it and having lots of fun with the 6-speed manual.
I also just got one in October!! Always been my dream car. It may not be as fast as modern day sports cars they’re 20 years old. Haven’t driven mine much other than the drive home and 2 miles around the block. Storing it in winter. I’ll be getting it tuned next season with just a intake and dual cat back. Not a loud exhaust but the valve rumble is amazing

Great video! I love my 06 350z, and It just doesn't feel like a 17 year old car! I've also got a 91 Miata, and the 350z feels pretty luxurious in comparison! Especially with the Bluetooth I've installed and the sound system is pretty good. Had mine for almost 4 years now and absolutely love it! Don't see myself selling anytime soon, might just even buy another!!

I've had an HR from 2014 and i haven't found a viable competitor to change it. Keeping it for life.
@@JohnnyB.Looking to get one imported next year ! Looking for any HR engine or even a Nismo. Pretty cheap in Japan. Imports for me would cost 5k

I’m so pleased with this review as a massive fan of the Z33, however I can’t help but think what the result would have been had Fifth Gear used a Track spec (in the UK “GT Spec”) model equipped with the RAYS alloys and the Brembo brake setup. It probably would have been down by around only 2 seconds.
Why is progress always measured by track times? The Supra is typical of modern cars. Sanitised, disconnected, sounds crap, too much fakery (fake engine sounds - who bloody started this?!), style over substance and a less refined engine (4cyl turbo). For me, I don't care how much quicker it is. Vicki looks bored in the Supra. It's all about how the car makes you feel. Ask yourself this - what's the favourite car you've owned and why?

Its like wearing headphones in your car or downloading v8 sound modules for your Tesla. The purpose was to enjoy your car without waking up the neighbourhood. 😂. Well said....I remember the feeling when i got my 2003 DE. Not the fastest but the drama. The 370 nismo in comparison was toned down. I guess thats why old mx5 NB NC were so popular. Now the 86. Modern cars are like laptops on soft springs 🤣. They dont evoke emotions like a 3.4 cayman or an open top MX5 with a nice exhaust can

Brz and gr86 are 200bhp 350z Hr is 308bhp I’d imagine they being completely different cars v6 all the way
@@GamingCornerYT new gr86 make around 215 wheel on dynos that’s not far off what DE 350zs dyno and HRs are around 260 wheel they aren’t that far apart with the weight difference they get around 5.5 0-60 but this is not bashing the Z at all lol it’s so much cheaper they’re charging outrageous prices for these gr86s

I mean, Vicky is a heck of a presenter, and is what saves Fifth Gear after they stopped with Plato and Tiff. I can listen to her talk and review all day everyday. She should just start her own UA-cam channel and go full online and go where she belongs, to tropical weather and exotic cars! I love her style of reviewing

I bought a new 350Z in 2006. It was the year of the mid-cycle refresh so LED taillights, bi-xenon headlights were first offered that year. I special ordered mine to get it with an MT and my preferred options: Brembo brakes, staggered GT wheels, leather etc.
Loved it so very much but had to sell out of necessity after 4 years for less than it is worth today. I ordered a new M4 with MT in 2017 (also a mid-cycle refresh) and still own and love it, and yet I miss my Z every day.
Always preffer feel over speed. Even if its a bit slower Z is much better for actual driving experience. Its sad that automakers are killing any proper sensations from driving across the board
More Vicky please! Man do I miss Tiff or what.. keep hearing his voice in my head while watching this excellent video. Remembering the 350Z was actually one of his favorite. Wish he could be at least a guest presenter on one of the future episode.

The water in the side repeater could keep a goldfish alive
There was many mentions of the 350s brakes not being strong enough, but no mention of the fact the car driven was an import on the smaller wheels and more to the point missing the Brembo brakes which is all you could buy UK cars with.
That 350z is an import from Japan, so not the GT Uk spec that was sold here. The Uk car has cruse control and other goodies, including Larger Brembo Brakes.
There is no Japanese 350z. they were sold in Japan as the Fairlady Z. this is just a base spec. Probably has an open diff too.

Tiff Needell created fifth gear and somebody thought it was a good idea to sack him. Tiff Needell and Jason Plato recreated something we had seen only in best motoring international. Close racing head to head against the latest models. Any youtuber can film a trackday these days. In my opinion it was a relatively myopic strategy to fire Tiff. Fifth gear can not win back the time they lost out to youtube when they decided to go mainstream . I have already subscribed to your channel once, only to discover for my disappointment that fifth gear had uploaded series with missing episodes.

The 350z was one of my dream cars. About 8 years ago I bought an Azure Blue Rev Up version and I absolutely adored it.
For me it was the perfect combination of sports car and cruiser. All my previous cars either felt like track cars or fat cruisers.
That fat 3.5L engine not only sounded absolutely incredible but it had power everywhere. It was everything I could ever hope for.
I wrote it off within 12 months and then bought the HR model with over 300hp and absolutely fell in love once I'd swapped the exhaust with an Ark and spaced and lowered it and had it setup for the track.
Best car I've ever driven, all round comfortable powerful, you felt everything in the road. Amazing
That was until someone drove into the back of me (On purpose) and the insurance cost me so much I had to sell the car.
I've never recovered from that and I miss it everyday. If you ever see HJ57 WVA out there in the real world let me know. I put alot of love into that car and I was forced to sell it!
In a few years I will buy a 2008 Nissan 350z and I will keep you updated

New cars are really taking away the feeling of driving for me. For example going from a STI forester to a Golf R i was disappointed the golf is more capable slightly but the Old Scooby is a hell of a lot more fun.
That Zed's a Japanese import, a base model one. The official import was the GT model.
Edit - The GT also came with Brembo brakes as standard.
Please do the old Puma against the new Puma ST.
I remember when TopGear did an old vs new video with the 300ZX vs. the then new 350Z & the 300ZX won that battle, twin turbo on the 300. Maybe do a 300ZX vs. GR Supra? haha.

also they should have used the HR 313 model. Kind of unfair to use the slowest 350z.
I have enjoyed this gear for all of these years. But it sure would be nice to see cars compared to one another in the dry every once in a while.

That Supra/ BMW is nearly 5 seconds faster round the track!
I had a 350Z Sport with the stiffer springs, Bilstein shocks and an heroic Brembo brake package. I reckon that would have made up the 4.9 seconds.

Yes we know. You reviewed this car back when i was high school. I had 4 Zeds. Including 350Z and 370Z Nismo. Exposing everyones age here 😂. Sounds better than the 370 for sure

I always get a kick about how one can watch 2 great shows(5th Gear and Clarkson/Hammond/May era Top Gear) and come to a review like this with the Z and the outcome/reviews are polar opposites.

That 350Z doesn't have the Brembos, which partly explains the poor braking performance.
The non-Brembo calipers were basically a parts bin recycle from the S13 Silvia / 180SX, a ~200kg lighter car. And even that car was considered underbraked with those brakes.
It would have been interesting to see this done with a Brembo equipped car. The Supra still would have won, but it would have been closer.
The 2.0 doesn't have brimbos either its single piston

Comparing a base model Z to a supra. Nice. At least get a ST 350z with brembos. Or a rev-up/HR model with the standard brakes.

The 350z Nismo was the peak for these cars. Had the HR motor, stiffer chassis and suspension.
Even the 370z was a step backwards. Just not the same.
350z Nismo were slower than the base model and Enthusiast model 350z Hr’s thats why i never went the Nismo route. I fully gutted my 350z Hr and ive been beating FBO 370z Nismo and Tuned Q50 3.7/G37’s and im bone stock still haha but basically a tin can 😂
It would have been nice to see the Toyota go up against the new Z. And if you drive a z in the rain you best be up on your game.

A touring pack with 18" wheels and Brembo brakes would have been a better comparison.
All UK Zs have the 18s and brembos, this one is a super basic jap import with the cloth seats, no steering wheel controls, brembos etc

I've had the fiesta st180 a few years back and the 350z back in 2003. Have the Supra 3.0 now. 350z was such a great car, and I never had any issue with it. Fun factor, fiesta and 350z very close!
Love these videos with old vs new under powered models... New is often quicker, but have you considered the influence of the tires? If the old competitor has several years old tires, that might have a huge impact on a track driving to the limit...
At least get a UK GT edition that’s in a good nick. The 07 and above had over 300bhp, more torque and obviously the brembo brakes.
Lol fast when the 08 HR remapped to 340bhp. Keeps up with the 370 nismo

Boot spoiler? I'd sooner complain that it's a base model with no brembos and it isn't the later 313hp HR variant. Could you pick a worse example of a uk 350z to pit against the supra?

there is a new 400z and the 2.0 Supra has been released since launched but killed off this year.

New Z irrelevant its a 370Z with 7 year old engine. Renault CEO considered it but they decided it was not worth doing a 2 year thing like Toyotas 86. I reckon it would sell out though. Renault would need Nissan to put a Euro 7 Engine which is not feasible to keep selling post 2025.....That Supra 2.0 thing didnt sell 🤣🤣🤣....£48,000 its going to be like Jaguars 2.0 F type. No ones willing to pay that for a 4 cylinder with fake sounds

@@blademanx considering what a 6 cyl Supra cost 30 years ago, paying 48k really isn't that much for 4 cyl Supra that could possibly beat or come very close performance wise
That particular Z is looking a little worse for wear. Could use some attention on that front bumper… that panel gap with the hood don’t look quite even.
That wing on the Z seems like a Nismo item.

New car they reviewed in 2002. A80 Supra wasn't new back then, since it was just going out of production.
