  • Predator is a long-running sci-fi franchise. With the new prequel, Prey, now out, we decided to go looking for sins in the original sequel, Predator 2. And, oh my god, are there sins!
    Thursday: musical cartoon sins.
    Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

    The Predator spared the two women because one was unarmed and the other was pregnant. It was established in the first movie that it never kills unarmed prey. And no responsible hunter kills a pregnant female.

      It's probably because we've seen what Predators look like by this point. There's no mystery to it, the first one doesn't really show what you're dealing with until only Dutch is alive. They kinda took the "Jaws" route, even though that was actually technical problems with their shark, making it more scary.

  • @acehangman617
    @acehangman617 Рік тому +76

    I agree the movie is flawed and doesn't hold up to us looking at 'futuristic urban settings' from our current viewpoint in the farther future, but the movie itself does keep with a lot of the Predator lore. The reason everyone is so sweaty is likely a heatwave in Los Angeles. The Predators (I am not using their real name because I'm not a nerd) prefer very hot environments. They don't tend to kill unarmed people (or if they do, they'd do it in hand-to-hand, assuming the target was capable, like a soldier or boxer), like he did with King Willie who didn't use a gun. Same with pregnant woman, and that's why the scene was there without any real need to explain the pregnancy or who was the baby's daddy.
    Same with coming out of camouflage after thinning ranks. They'll usually have a specific target in most attacks and will thin out other members, but just killing targets while hiding and not revealing yourself isn't necessarily honorable. I don't know all the protocol or what's more tradition, but that is kind of well known. No reason it wasn't camouflaged climbing the building, unless it was trying to make sure Mike was following it.
    I also can't recall exactly how the Predator's vision works, but it's probably a bit like infrared (the helmet likely enhances it and has other viewing modes as well). So in the hot, steamy jungle of South America, Dutch probably was harder to see and the environment was hotter, making it more 'red'. While in the meat freezer in the slaughterhouse, Mike would likely be standing out in much greater contrast.

    • @thefanwithoutaface8105
      @thefanwithoutaface8105 Рік тому +11

      To answer your question, Predators typically see in infafred vision, however the mask effectively acts as an enhancing tool since logically if a Predator were to go to an insanely hot environment like a jungle or LA during a heatwave they'd basically be blind since everything would appear red. The mask effectively narrows it down to only see the heat signatures of living things, hence why the only stuff we see with a signature are living creatures.

    thank you for showing a clean shot of the flintlock pistol at the end and not just skipping over that. i just watched Prey when it came out and was pretty sure it was the same one and was going to rewatch Predator 2 to be sure, but you did the work for me :p

    I thought it was fairly obvious they mentioned that Leona was pregnant because Danny Glover would realize that only armed people were being killed and she wasn't killed because she was pregnant ...because the Predator has standards

      He should NEVER have tried so hard to find fault with a film much beloved, and beloved for what it is, a 90's action movie.....and one of the very best!👍🏻

    1:14 The point is that weapon (high power long gun with a scope) is permanently mounted to the trunk lid where it lives vs a random duffle bag of pistols which comes and goes.

    You missed the sin for Harrigan surviving the blast from the spaceship taking off - no way he would have survived that back blast.

    Missed "role credits". Gary Busey's character refers to the creature as a Predator when talking with Danny Glover's character in the van.

    I do miss Gary Bussey. He played some great roles, like Surviving the Game, The Firm, Under Siege and the original Point Break.
    But i also really miss Bill Paxton. One of a kind. I love seeing him in Aliens, Navy Seals, Tombstone, True Lies, Apollo 13, Twister ...
    I must say, it is not every actor that can play the good guy, just as good as they can play the bad guy.
    May he rest in peace, and tip my hat to the rest.
    Thank you all for entertaining us for so long. 😎🍻
    P.S.: To all the movie makers and directors, for future Predator / Alien movies, take notice of these movies, because they certainly don't make them like they used too ....

    I remember when this movie was widely disliked. Very few people had anything positive to say about it even when they kept coming out with one terrible Predator sequel after another. Then the amazing and well crafted "Prey" movie comes out, and suddenly "Predator 2" is the second best Predator movie in the franchise! It's a weird transition.

    People love to rag on Predator 2 ignoring that it actually added more stuff to the Predator lore than the original that's stuck around even to this day. Let's count shall we
    Weapons: Combi Stick, Smart Disc, Net Launcher, Spear Gun, Med kit, multiple light settings on the mask
    Music: Predator one had maybe one iconic theme while this movie's more tribal sounding music has basically become a staple of the Predator franchise
    Code of Honor: While the first movie brought the idea up, this film cemented the rules of the Predator, no hurting unarmed, pregnant or sick people, with the Predator even distinguishing between a real gun and a fake one. It also introduced the concept of Predators rewarding humans who successfully defeat another in battle, often with a trophy taken from past hunts.
    Predator Ships: First movie to actually show us what the inside of a Predator ship actually looks
    Xenomorph Hunting: This goes without saying as the Xeno skull on the wall effectively started the conflict between the Xenos and Predators that's existed to this very day.
    Point is the Predator Franchise owes a large chunk of it's identity to this movie and people should respect it.
