0:52 In the intro summary, there's one point missed about what happened before the atmosphere got shrouded: All the debris that got launched came back and broiled the atmosphere. Any creatures unable to escape got cooked.
@@JhonDoeAnnon New Scientist: `The impact of a 10-kilometre asteroid is blamed for the extinction of the dinosaurs and most other species on the planet. Early computer models showed that more than half of the debris blasted into space by the impact would fall into the atmosphere within eight hours. The models predicted the rain of shock-heated debris would radiate heat as intensely as an oven set to “broil” (260 °C) for at least 20 minutes, and perhaps a couple of hours. Intense heating for that long would heat wood to its ignition temperature, causing global wildfires.`
Check out Neil Stephensen's 2015 novel, "Seveneves," which details similar events after the destruction of the Moon. I believe there's still a film adaptation in the works, a Ron Howard project.
There wouldn't be any survivors of the initial impact. That thing is 50 times bigger than the asteroid that took out the dinosaurs. The atmosphere would heat up so much and so quickly it would probably flash boil the oceans, and any living thing on the surface, and probably the the entire crush would liquidify.

Thanks to geologists we think that all living beings on our planet Earth have the most to fear from an asteroid impact or volcano eruptions. But when we look at the many horizontal layers that we find everywhere on our planet, we clearly see the effect of a repeating cataclysm. These disasters are mentioned in ancient books like the Mahabharata from India and the Popol Vuh from the Maya and others. They tell us about a cycle of seven disasters. Certainly, a cycle of regularly recurring global disasters cannot be caused by asteroid impacts or volcanic eruptions. The only possible cause is another celestial body, a planet, orbiting our sun in an eccentric orbit. Then it is close to the sun for a short period and after the crossing at a very high speed it disappears into the universe for a long time. Planet 9 exists, but it seems invisible. These disasters cause a huge tidal wave of seawater that washes over land "above the highest mountains." At the end it covers the earth with a layer of wet mud, a mixture of sand, clay, lime, fossils of marine and terrestrial animals and small and larger meteorites. The Northern hemisphere is covered with a layer of ice that fell down "in blocks as great as mountains". These disasters also create a cycle of civilizations. To learn much more about the recurring flood cycle, the re-creation of civilizations and its timeline and ancient high technology, read the e-book: "Planet 9 = Nibiru". It can be read on any computer, tablet or smartphone. Search: invisible nibiru 9
We could make a giant spaceship drill filled with atomic weapons that would drill into the core of the asteroid then explode it from withing shattering it into small pieces small enough to be burned by the atmosphere
I'm not sure it would be viewable except maybe indirectly. The incoming mass would be exceedingly hot and bright. You'd be blinded by it, even at a great distance.
If this ever happens I hope to god me and all my loved ones are in the direct impact zone cause i don't want anyone of us to suffer on a hell scape planet after it hits
If an asteroid is coming and there is nothing we can do about it I’m getting the pin for the impact point and going straight there to get at the front of the line
Jupiter is on the other side of the asteroid belt, so it wouldn't help in this scenario. Jupiter also launches asteroids towards Earth when it get's too close to the asteroid belt.

Let us know how we can help you grow b/c you should be able to put out more videos per month like at least 2 per month. So how ever that needs to happen inform us more because we need alternatives to Kurzgesagt. Cant just be iPhones man. Need more Samsungs...
How would exploding a nuke in the vicinity of an asteroid do anything to it? There is no medium for any shockwave to form. (And before you say "radiation", that's insufficient to alter the trajectory for the kind of mass the video is talking about.)
It IS radiation, but not the way you're thinking. The direct momentum transfer from the photons themselves is indeed irrelevant but what would happen is the surface of the asteroid would be flash heated into explosive vaporization, and the momentum transfer of that surface erupting off the asteroid is what pushes the asteroid the other direction.
You could also purposefully shatter the asteroid, and send multiple nukes after to detonate between the shards, it should be easier to redirect smaller pieces
You had me until nukes. I think it's been proven for a while now that would be absolutely one of the worst things we could do. Have a wonderful day everyone!
I certainly hope it happens , we ( humans ) have screwed the planet beyond repair , too many wars , hunger , people are selfish , people don't care about anybody except themselves , this planet earth needs a reboot from scratch , start afresh , hopefully the next species to emerge will be kinder , and care for our fragile planet
That's not true actually. The planet's environment is not beyond repair. The likelihood of extreme climate change by the end of the century has already been vastly reduced. Crime is on the decline in the US decade by decade (and probably around the world but I don't have hard data for this), poverty is on the decline, technology keeps advancing to meet the needs of today and there are plenty of potential technologies that could meet the needs of tomorrow. People are mostly good though can be made indifferent by the struggles placed on them through a system that many are working to change. Indeed, many public goods studies show that people mostly behave with kindness until someone behaves poorly. Those people can be punished, and they are, just not in the timeframe we would like. Do you know what it takes to make the world a better place? For people to get out and work at achieving it. It won't fall into our laps, but such a world can be made.
You are losing your asthetic with too much 3D.... Please come back to the styles of your first videos, we liked it better. Same with the naration, from a fan
M.E.G.A Make Earth Great Again....lol It won't matter to the Earth-she will simply develop life forms that will survive on her just as she did 65 million years ago.....it'll take time, but Earth has LOTS of that.
You forgot about the roche limit. Vesta would almost certainly break up as it approached. Wouldn't help us but there would be several commissions. Energy would be the same.
The real concern is, what effect would this have on local trout populations?
So troutful!
There’s something fishy about this question, but I just can’t put my finger on it…

The scary part is a asteroid could hit us and there's not much we can do about it, life as we know it would be gone
Just the way of the universe
