Problem is , handhelds are niche. No matter how cool you think they are, most people don't agree. Nintendo branding sells the Switch. MS will have a tough go at a Handheld and have to be ready for decades of fighting for market share. Even Sony couldn't keep a handheld going long term.
If next xbox suports steam or other 3rd party stores... exclusives will be a thing of the past cause you will be able to play all of them just like pc gamers. what Xbox can do is turn playstation into a 2nd class experience by releasing games with two different schedules\time frame.
As an older gamer (I have been gaming since the 1980s), I have always HATED with a passion the idea of exclusives. I would love to see all companies release all games on all platforms (tech not withstanding obviously, I mean, Switch running the latest games at 4k is out for sure, but still). If a game CAN be multiplatform, it SHOULD be multiplatform. I have had every generation (and sub generation) of Xbox since they were released, and I have owned a Switch and a PSP (awful device imo), and would love to see an xbox handheld. I am also an avid PC gamer, and a subscriber to Gamepass Ultimate (and have never paid a penny for it, I get it with MS rewards every month), and will continue to stay as one. BUT, I still buy games on top of that. I just use GP as a way to play games I might not be interested in, and have discovered several that I found I really liked. I really enjoy being able to play games on my Xbox, then switch over to the PC, and then continue playing said game, from where I left off, on my PC... but then as I said, I am an older gamer, I may be a little weird.
What is the point of multiple consoles without exclusives? I always see PC gamers propose this mindset, but of course they would. They are the only ones actually benefiting from console games, features, and services hitting the PC platform while everything else is bled dry as a result. I can guarantee that I never would have bought my Xbox Series X & Nintendo Switch OLED if I could just play Halo & Mario on my PS5.
If literally every game was available on every platform immediately though... how would anyone then decide whether to get an Xbox or PS5? At the least you'd need "timed exclusives" as otherwise what would you base the decision on? 🤨
Console exclusives used to be more defined by the hardware it was on, this is what makes Nintendo to remain unique as they no longer play the tech game. This is one of the major reasons Xbox and PlayStation clash so much (which stems from the top down and why Sony continues to try and money-hat deals to keep games off of Xbox). Aside from a few controller features nothing really separates the two, the hardware is more than capable running games on both. There should always be exclusives, as long as the hardware maker is funding the games. I take exception to hardware makers who pay for exclusivity, and this is even relevant to the PC with Epic and Epic game store. Microsoft is blurring the lines now because of Game Pass and wanting to get as much revenue as well since games costs so much to make now. Indiana Jones is too fast on PS5, it should be a 1 year timed exclusive like Sony does on some of it's third party deals.
@@Tusrista Yeah, Nintendo shows that gamers care about games (shock, I know) and not just chasing-spec like PC gamers. Look at all the furore there was about Microsoft and Sony taking the 8K off the boxes for their current consoles. "There should be class-action lawsuits", people cried. Okay... and how many of you actually own an 8K display so you could have experienced it? No-one? Okay so why are we all so bothered by a benefit we couldn't ever see anyway on an existing 1080p, 1440p or 4K display? 🤷🏻♂️
I too have been a gamer since 1980, also always multi-console gamer so I agree with you 100%. Put the games on as many platforms as possible is best for all gamers, and Microsoft. How is getting your games in more gamers hands a bad thing. It is not, imo.
From the very start of the year it has been their strategy to put their games on PlayStation and switch. They have just been trying to tire fans out with conflicting messaging to either support or become complacent with the move.
Unpopular opinion, but games going everywhere is bad for brand identity and can lead to monopoly if only one platform is has all the games. This is what's happening with all of Xbox's games going to PlayStation, but PS not putting their games on Xbox (PC is a separate market from consoles). Xbox keeps devaluing itself, so there will be no reason to buy Xboxes moving forward, hand-held or not. This may be a financially sound strategy for MS, but having no competition in the console hardware space is exactly why we have an unnecessary $700 "upgrade" from Sony. This isn't fanboy console war propaganda. This is anti-consumer practices that result in gamers getting screwed because of the ecosystem inequalities and monopolies that could arise in the future.
Hardware is not how they make money. Games is through purchasing the game and micro-transactions. This is the future and will help Xbox IMO dominate gaming. PC is king.
@@jmangames5562 Ur completely drunk, everyone already knows consoles don’t make profits when sold, that’s besides the point. This is another perfect example of Microsoft saying one thing then doing another with backasswords thinking. 1) they want more game sales / software sales but yet these BOZO’s created GamePass which cannibalizes game sales and very little people end up buying the games. 2) these bozo’s say they don’t want to force Gamepass on anyone but yet are still trying to shove down people’s throats that COD and every 1st party game is on there day 1 and trying to grow it 3) These BOZO’s no longer market the Xbox console and instead are putting WAYY more focus on PC and cloud and saying STUPID slogans like “no console required” like buffoons which continues to devalue the console even more! Also there’s 100’s of millions of gamers like myself that couldn’t give a F about pc gaming! Microsoft LOVE to contradict themselves every chance they get! They want more sales but created GamePass which cannibalizes sales, they want more GamePass subs (even tho they said they don’t want to force anyone to sub) yet majority GamePass subs are on console and they continue to make people feel like second class citizens when owning an Xbox & continue to devalue the console and telling people “no console needed” 🤦🏻♂️🤡
We also had the ps4 pro which was “unnecessary” so I don’t think u have a valid point with that.. the only reason the pro is 700 is because of the better hardware and 2tb nvme
As much as a part of me agrees just have Microsoft create an Xbox OS and leave the hardware to the hardware vendors and this day and age we cannot forget the past and repeat the mistakes of the past 3DO and Panasonic and Philips already tried that business model and it did not go well.
Yes, I've been making the same-point: the big, home consoles are typically sold at-a-loss in their first-few years on-the-market and they recoup those losses through the software and service fees. Third-parties wouldn't benefit from that, so why does anyone expect they'd want to make losses on Microsoft's behalf? 🤷🏻♂️ Microsoft would be better-off just adding an "Xbox Mode" to Windows 12.
Exactly: games sales and subscriptions plug the losses on the console sales. Third-parties only have just the console to make a profit from, and I see no reason why they'd want to make losses on Microsoft's behalf? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
@@bdsamsHey Brad. In a future video, maybe you could elaborate your thoughts on this as I'm struggling to see why any third-party company would bother? Microsoft and Sony make losses on their consoles initially, and rely on game and service sales to plug that gap. Third-parties don't have that benefit. And the 3DO already tested this idea a while back, and it didn't work as the more companies who make the consoles, the tighter the margins become due to all the competition. How do you see it might work? 🤔
@jared5706 it's not stupid, I'll elaborate. Essentially, Microsoft doesn't make a profit on Xboxs. What really drives profit is the ecosystem , Gamepass, and game sales. If they were to start partnering with 3rd parties who can make PC's cheaper and sell an Xbox OS license on top of that, they could effectively make consoles without taking the loss. Allowing 3rd parties to make certified "consoles" could give us a variety of systems. So, if you wanted to buy a $1.5k super Xbox, you could do that. And I don't want to hear that it makes game development harder. They make games scalable on PC all the time. They would have minimum tech requirements regardless. And they could still make the Series S as a budget console.
MS doesn't want a handheld until they have a stronghold in mobile. Right now they are having a tough go at it. Even had to delay their new mobile store. Google and Apple having a monopoly on app stores makes it hard for anyone to gain ground.
Sounds like they want Xbox to be their next Windows in terms of software/services. Yes you can buy a traditional console or handheld directly from Microsoft. But they also want the Xbox user experience to be incorporated on other 3rd party devices. Including their competitors. Phones, tablets, consoles, PC, TVs.
They'd be better off just adding an "Xbox Mode" into Windows 12 and make it offer benefits over just running games now, like eliminating the need for anti-cheat tools and parking Windows while you're in it
Any thoughts on bringing Halo to PS, isn’t necessarily tied to recouping investment from ABK. Discussions were held pre-2020 to bring Game Pass & Halo to PS, deal didn’t go through due to PS not being willing to allow the “full Xbox experience”. (Achievements, community etc). Difficult to draw red lines on any product. Mainly due to intent on growing business of Microsoft Gaming. Regs were harsh on ABK, concerned about PS bottomline, which resulted in divestiture of Cloud. Future, MG can now prove such fears were then & are now non existent. Whats interesting, is just recently Sony have publicly declared a restructuring on how they will conduct business. Which implies further scope beyond just a locked system & network. Welcome everyone to the gaming evolution.
Im xbox guy...but pc is great. Just slap a game in your wishlist til it goes on sale. Xbox & Sony heavy hitters are there. FF Remake was better on pc because of the mods...Def ooking forward to them stellerblade mods.

@@kingsleyjackson8287 yeah, the only annoying part is the long time investment that gets lost. I chose Xbox back in the day because of Halo as well as they really pushed to have pc games on their platform. Something I couldn't really get with nintendo and the ps2 at the time. Seemed like they had a vision. Unfortunately the last 10years they lost that with their competitive edge.
Well, if they don't want a $1000 console, they definitely don't want Dell to make it for them, because they overprice everything. I think if you haven't figured out that Microsoft isn't fighting the console war anymore then you've had your head in the sand. They are more worried about Game Pass and selling games wherever they can sell games.
I dont think xbox would farm out their xbox brand because how would they do their xbox gaming store split. Because if dell cant price and xbox like xbox then the console cant be sold at a loss. So unless they'll give the manufacturers a split of their xbox store or gamepass revenue i don't see this working
The 3DO already proved this model won't work as the more companies who make the hardware, the less-profit they can each make. There's no real incentive to do so
Console wars are for children, it literally doesn’t exist we have cross platform now it doesn’t matter what console you have you can play with you’re friends anywhere, what matters now is who has the best platform and consumer friendly platform and I believe xbox know this that’s why the future is gamepass

Phil has already said this more than once in interviews months ago. For all we know yet, the Series X could be _the_ last Xbox, period. People are already like "nah Sony you bunch of Muppets, ain't no way I'm paying $700 for a console, you mad bro". But then expect the next Xbox to be more-powerful than the X, but also not-more than $500 🙃
@ I think the Xbox Series X will be the last Xbox console with a disc drive and based off of what rumors have speculated and what Sarah Bond has stated about the next generation, I think the Series X will be the last “TRADITIONAL” console from Microsoft. I think they are planning big shifts and changes for the Xbox brand in the 10th generation lineup.
Yeah, but I don't want to wait years for an x box handheld, if it isn't coming out in 2025, I'll just get a rog ally or similar. I honestly expected it when the surface and hardware teams all joined up.
My Xbox is no more invested in a pc. Bought the best pre built I could afford. So I’m good for a long time with my Alienware aurora r15 (4080). Was wanting the AMD variant but this was out of stock. Stupidly I had stacked my gamepass to August 2026 and I don’t use it at all. Steam and gog is all I use now. Can’t refund cos Cdkeys. I’m happy though. Xbox and Sony can share I’ve no opinion now.
Gee I know, why get day 1 games or a ecosystem with play anywhere and gamepass. It won't be 'all there games'. Pay attention. Moving to PC is what is killing console sales. Not everyone is in to PS.
@@Mr.Eldric I did the same thing but my roots are in PC gaming going back to the 90's I just went for convenience but cost and quality is gone from consoles.
@Mr.Eldric bruh I just built my first gaming pc this year. 4080 super and yeah I just canceled my gamepass. Not because I don't like it but the Xbox app on pc makes gaming damn near impossible. If they can fix the Xbox app I'd probably get gamepass again but I haven't used it. Steam has been amazing for me.
I have been a gamer since 1980 and have owned almost every console made from then and now. I have always been a multi-console gamer, and never cared for the toxic mentality that fanboys have for exclusive games. I have always played the games on the platforms they are on. I say rip off the bad-aid MS and just put your games on as many devices, I mean you can still make dedicated hardware but if the goal is to sell more software well that is the answer.
I'm a Xbox fan yet this is just the third place language. MS has to talk because it's last in console space. Let them explore and see reactions either way they will learn
Unlikely. Do any current handhelds now let you upgrade any of their hardware, except by adding extra storage? I'd guess the CPU, GPU and RAM are soldered in all the ones we have now, no? 🤔
To me, it doesn’t make sense to make a handheld but leave the console to other manufacturers. There are already enough handhelds out there so they could do the same thing and improve Windows for handhelds. I reckon MS is more threatened by Valve than anyone else and Valve making Linux more viable to the average user. That’s the only reason I think MS is entering the handheld space. Especially since Valve is going to make StreamOS available to other handheld manufacturers. MS seems more interested in protecting Windows and what they have than trying to develop something truly special. I’ve always said they should make Windows more efficient and performant so a version of it can run on handhelds/mobiles and scale it up to desktop from there. It needs to be more modular, efficient, scalable and performant so it’s ready for any product before it’s even conceived. But MS just keeps reacting to everything rather than being forward thinkers.
I've been saying the same with the next Xbox. Not only will other vendors make them. There can be different variations of GPU/CPU/RAM. It's a PC, just make sure you hit a minimum spec from MS.
This is likely the next step for xbox. Thing is, this has already been tried before without much success, but hey, if any company has any chance to make it work is probably the giant MS megacorporation, but it does sound complicated to make it enticing for PC makers to brand their PCs as xbox if they are basically just going to be PCs. Who knows, maybe they do have some kind of plan after all.
Nah, this was tried back with the 3DO and failed as once you split it between multiple manufacturers, margins then become even more squeezed so they'd make losses for longer. Plus... if you allow a "minimum spec", implying some consoles could be built to be more-powerful, wouldn't that just repeat the same issue people already have now of the "Series S dragging this generation down"? Surely there should only be one spec 🤨
Regarding being in talks still, those aren't one and done given the live service nature and evolving market. So, no need to be so pessimistic. Just means they're thinking of how best to lure customers to their storefront and what to launch day 1, with incentives, etc. Very much like how they curate Game Pass.
Games are going cuz they own two of the biggest publishers in the industry and want to buy more. I don’t know why that’s so hard to understand for some of y’all. They never said everything is going either. Just a few days ago PlayStation also said they are going to release more games on more platforms……
Yeah, there are around 1-2 billion people who play some sort of game on a smartphone thesedays, versus 30-odd million on Xbox Series or 60-odd million on PS5. Even if they could get just 10% of mobile users to subscribe to an Xbox Cloud app, that would be more than PS5 and Xbox Series combined
Ok this wasn’t click bait granted lol but Microsoft at 3 years plus don’t even mention new handheld until your say inside of a year of planned release still good video
I think MS screwed over anyone who bought an Xbox Series console to play their 1st party titles. The message for years after the release of those consoles was their games were exclusive to Xbox. Now they’ve changed their mind, and not only are they basically saying there will be no exclusives, Xbox owners pay more than PC owners for Game Pass and get less features, and the best versions of their games will be on PC and PS5 Pro. So for people who bought or wants an XSX and PS5, you’re better off just buying a PS5 Pro and saving money. I think MS’s strategy is going to endanger their handheld unless it offers something special, which MS seems to struggle to deliver. Personally, I loved their Xbox One X enhanced, FPS Boost titles and Game Pass, but it didn’t seem enough for gamers to make them buy an Xbox. I think Xbox 1st party games should be exclusive for at least a year on Xbox (maybe only 3 months for multiplayer games). But while I think they’ve made great hardware and marketable features, I think their biggest failure is their games. They’re just not at the quality of what Sony or Nintendo can deliver.
Xbox wants to have a top store and be the top publisher in everyone else's stores. I think the part about figuring out what to do with the Call of Duty and Candy Crush team revolves around major launches for new games as killer apps for the new store. I just got from this that they are looking to acquire Asian and mobile developers. Again software, handheld and mobile focused. Microsoft can use Windows and Xbox to become the Android for third parties to make Xboxes that rival Steam decks and machines, iPhones, PlayStation, Nintendo, etc. I already wrote about this on my Substack a while ago.
The Xbox community has been Preaching the Handheld is coming next year, Xbox will buy Take 2 and the multiplat push was slowing down. Theres gonna be a lot of broken hearts today I can't wait to see the spin 😂
I am baffled how is anyone shocked when MS clearly has been moving towards putting their games on any every device with a screen and internet connection. They say Xbox only gamers don't buy enough games or consoles, so MS says ok, we will put the games on not only PC, but put them on the PS5 which to me is a great idea if the goal is to sell software and damn, MS is a software company, worth about a $trillion or two, and yes, Phil, Clearly is not in charge, as MS controls the money. I own all the consoles so I am fine putting the games on as many platforms as possible which to me would end the toxic fanboy exclusive mentality.
Could work... but only if it was a handheld only. If it allowed you to connect to a TV or monitor, like the Switch, we'd then just see the same complaints about how the Xbox Deck is "holding this generation back" 🤷🏻♂️
PlayStation pro is a $1000 in Canada, so Phil is technically right. 😏 Just curious, do you think the series consoles are just going to become cloud devices in the future and Xbox just updates their server blades to whatever the latest AMD chip out there?🤔
I suspect that next gen, we will see some version of the Xbox that is a small, HDMI dongle (like a Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV) that you link a Bluetooth controller to, and all the games are streamed. Such a device could cost like $50 (maybe say $70-80 with a controller also included) so would be a really affordable way to bring people into Xbox
Taking over in what exactly? Them making more money at the detriment of their consoles becoming irrelevant, and public image of the brand being at rock bottom?
@@jared5706Depends what the brand is. SEGA haven't made a console since the Dreamcast and seem to have a good reputation as a developer and publisher only thesedays. Does "Xbox" have to mean console hardware, or just "Xbox Studios"? 🤔

If putting games on PS5 isn't an answer, what else could they do? 🤔
I hope Phil Spencer/ Satya Nadella/Microsoft is preparing to refund 30 million Xbox players who bought Xbox Hardware so they can use that money to buy a PS5 instead, Phil Spencer basically saying we basically screwed over 30 million Xbox console owners so we're going to screw them over by putting Halo on Playstation.
Not really... just because games will also get released on PS5, they are still also on Xbox Series too. And you still have GamePass. So... why would you expect a refund when you're still getting the games? If they were to say "all our games will now be exclusive to the PS5", I'd agree. But they haven't... you'll still be getting all their studio's games 🤨
How do you get screwed when the games are still available? The same can be said about PS5, I played Horizon on my PC. Did Sony tell everyone when the PS5 launched which games will also be coming on the PC? Here's a few words of wisdom, enjoy your games, who cares what brand logo is on the hardware.

I'm glad he finally confirmed what everyone knew was happening. I'm also glad I now only need a PS5 to play basically everything except Nintendo games.
There’s no point to hardware if the games are going everywhere, so I simply see Phil’s statement as yet more confirmation that Xbox on the path to becoming just another third party for actual hardware manufacturers that care about their userbase. As far as acquisitions go, after what MS did with Tango, all I can do is pray that they stay far away from any Japanese publishers and developers.
Steam is getting bigger and bigger every year. Question is.... Are those totally new user for gaming space or are console players flooding to that platform. I switched after two decades with and from PlayStation....
I don't get this "Microsoft should allow other companies to make Xbox consoles". Why would they? Consoles, at least in their first few years, are usually sold at-a-loss and they make-up for that through the game and live-service subscription sales. Third-parties wouldn't get money from that, just the console alone, which means taking a loss on Microsoft's behalf. So... why would any do that? 🤨 Didn't the 3DO already try this model and prove it didn't work? 🤔
As long as I get the games on Gamepass, I don't care where others play it. I can afford to buy maybe 3 full priced games a year. Games are almost $100 a year here in Canada. So without Gamepass, I would only play a tiny selection of games. Picking up a Playstation instead of an Xbox does not serve me at all. Don't care about exclusives that I'm not interested in and can't afford anyway. The ponies can take the internet win. Microsoft can make more money, and I can keep more of mine in my pocket.
If the next Xbox became basically a PC and used off the shelf components it would most likely drastically inflate the price of the console. Not sure handing off the Xbox console to other manufactures is the wisest idea. Not only would the product be more expensive because now profits are being divided up but also the console would be competitor to these manufactures own products. Asking Dell and HP to create a product that competes with their own products doesn't seem logical.
Not really. Apparently it’s gonna be a hybrid PC but it’s still Microsoft making it. Your experience will pretty much be the same except you now have PC perks. There’s an unnecessary barrier between the Xbox console and PC windows all their doing is removing that barrier.
Pfft. That statement is a big nothing at this time. "We could do something in that space". That could be yet another useless cloud streaming device or have some huge ownership limitations.
I can see Starfield, South of Midnight ,Blade and even more going. Consoles are irrelevant. I saw this coming that's why I switched to PC. MS is trying to go to cloud gaming. I definitely will not buy another console next gen until it is at least halfway in, and it would have to be the best gen ever. MS and Sony are now 3rd party publishers MS even more so.
Ur dumb if you think consoles are irrelevant, but bet 250M+ people are still buying consoles and consoles won’t ever go away. Only Xbox consoles are the ones becoming irrelevant and “going away” and it’s Microsoft’s own stupid fault
People need to understand that if the majority of xbox users are using GP, then games have to go to other platforms to ensure profitability. I'd imagine majority of Xbox games will be timed exclusives.
@@ltzJBAssuming everyone with a Series S or X, or Xbox One, is still actively using them, about 86 million. Though do "Game Pass" figures only include Xbox, and do "PC Game Pass" stats get reported separately, or are the two merged-together?
@dftfire i dont know if 86 million is accurate considering they only sold 90 mil consoles total the last 2 gens. Regardless, 20-30 million subscribers is far from very few, like the other person suggested. As far as the subscribers break down, they've never actually announced it. Most assume that the majority of that is console, but it's impossible to know. That figure is also 2 years old as well.
It will be interesting to see how much the PS6 will eventually cost... if that's all they can offer now for $700, I think people need to temper expectations that the PS6 will be more-powerful, yet come in at $499 😬
He just sees an "Xbox gamer" as being someone who plays "Xbox Studios" games, but not necessarily on the Xbox console. If they want to continue to make more money, they're either going to have to get more people to buy an Xbox Series (which so far hasn't been working massively) or release games on other platforms, like PS5 and SUPER Switch
Yes, because none of those studios made games that were very profitable if at all. All of them may have made cult favorites, but they never sold well enough to make a big profit.

Yeah, I do wonder if for next-gen they will release a small HDMI dongle type device, let's call it "Xbox LiveStream", and you literally just plug it into you TV, link a Bluetooth controller and all the games just get streamed to it. It would mean not making a loss on hardware too, as it would need barely any CPU, GPU or RAM (given it would be like a FireTV or Chromecast dongle)

They need to open the next Xbox and handheld more into PC gaming. Who the fk cares what device you use go play? Im not paying 1000 for a PS6 closed ecosystem.
If exclusives didn't exist though, why would anyone then choose a Series X over a PS5 or vice-versa when they're usually the same price? They'd decide on, what...? The controller?
@dftfire something called hardware both performance and yes controller too. Or console design, since PS5 is horrendous lol. There is also something called price. I rather pay way less for a 2 TB series X than a scam PS5 pro. Games pass is way better than PS+. Microsoft rewards takes a massive dump on PS stars lol. So many reasons need more? Oh here is another.. maybe just maybe someone already owns many games on whichever platform and they want to continue there.. see not hard to use brain a little.
@@AutomaticSnake Okay but you're comparing Series X to PS5 Pro there, saying the X is better-value. Ding ding, you are absolutely 100% correct. However... the base PS5 is what you should compare the Series X to, and they usually sell for the same price. That's like comparing only the iPhone SE to only the Galaxy Ultra and declaring Apple winner on price. 😂 Whether you like the look of the PS5 is subjective and down to opinion, not fact. And sure, GamePass may be great-value for players (at least those who buy many games a year that are in it), but will it work long-term for the game studios? If you make a game that has a short, single-player campaign, you'll earn less from playtime in GamePass than a straight sale. I'm also not sure how your existing-library argument would work: if you had a PS4 and bought loads of games, you gave money to Sony and the studio at that time. If you then move to a Series X, and could import your library, you'd then just be playing them for free? Microsoft didn't see any of your money in the past, so what's in it for them now?
@dftfire it doesn't look like console are going to come out the same years so power difference is going to be noticable. Many Xbox/PS players with hundreds of games will not stop owning their consoles... well actually for Xbox it might change because they might open it up fully with PC, meaning all Xbox games will work on PC, not just a few like right now. Still many prefer to play on a console. I just don't understand your dumb question why buy if no exclusives. I will always have a playstation and an Xbox. I like trophy system on PS, I like Xbox better hardware, I prefer to play football games will PS controller, I like Xbox superior back compatibility... The more options the better and who the fk cares what device one uses to play whatever. I don't give a F about game pass profits, all I know is that Xbox game division makes more money than PlayStation and game pass is improving.
@@AutomaticSnakeOkay, let's try and narrow-down just to that one argument: exclusives. Exclusive games are clearly important because that's the reason the vast-majority of people choose a particular console right-now: because it has the games on it they want. The Nintendo Switch is clearly the weakest gaming device from a major company you can buy right now. If Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing and Pokémon were all (legally) available on SteamDeck and ran at like 60 FPS locked (or higher), would anyone then go for a Switch, outside of its lower-price? So the same would be true now: if you want to stick only with consoles, why buy the next Halo on Series X when it will run and look better on PS5 Pro? Or if base PS5 was on-sale for cheaper than an X, just go for that one then, if you can get exactly the same games. (Though in the world your picturing I'd assume PC would get every game too, so... I'd imagine even fewer would then go for a console anyway.)
Yeah, I'd love to know Brad's logic on that: the 3DO already tried that model, and it failed as the more companies you split the consoles between, the tighter the margins become as you sell fewer. Microsoft and Sony are okay with making losses in the initial years as game sales and subscriptions plug the gap. But for any third-party, profit has to come from just selling the console alone... 😬
@@jmangames5562Best user experience... until a Windows Update causes anti-cheat for a game to break, or a graphics-driver update causes issues, or a game doesn't run well until you follow some forum-post and go and manually edit some files. Or you play a multiplayer game and have endless cheaters. Consoles perform worse on the visuals and FPS, but some prefer how they "just work" otherwise
Xbox putting games on the paystation is just killing the brand. If Phil continues you will see more and more people leaving the platform. “No GAMES” on paystation. Much later hitting switch if you want to monetise the titles, but NEVER $ony.
Yeah, but AAA games are costing so much to make now, they have to find new ways of making money. The best compromise would be to make the games exclusive to Xbox initially, say for at-least a year, then do a PS5 release. Or... maybe instead of native ports, the games would be cloud-streamed to PS5 so Xbox Series could still have a visual and performance advantage? 🤔
The market is going to become crowded in that space for sure, so it better be great if they are making one. Especially since Sony is planning a legit handheld that's not the portal as well. It's a good idea for Game Pass/X Cloud, but I wonder how well it sell given how the consoles have struggled. It might help them a little in Japan though.
Well if Microsoft starts putting games like Halo on Playstation I'll save money and just have a Playstation and a computer for game pass, no need to buy all 3 or 4 if you consider the switch 🤔
Absolutely zero need for a PS too. They all go to PC and faster and faster too. So why have a PS? Please don't embarrass yourself and say because I want to play GTA6 on release......
No reason to own a PlayStation anymore. It has no games if its own. Ill stick with the source console which is xbox .Hahaha. I swear you guys read a different interview than what I read. He said other platforms. He didn't say PlayStation a single time. Sony fans have been begging for days for games and so far ... nothing big but Indiana Jones. I think Xbox is smart for their business plan by making only Sony the platform that pays full price and everyone else gets it day and date on gamepass but I've still yet to see any ports to PlayStation worth mentioning besides Indiana Jones. You guys need to understand that other platforms doesn't mean PlayStation. He said " there's no holy Grail of a rule that says no games can go elsewhere". Where in the hell did he mention playstation once? 😂 Ps players are so narcissistic they think it's all about them. It's quite comical
What do you think he would mean then by "other platforms"? I doubt Microsoft are ever going to do macOS or Linux ports of their games, so that would only leave Switch 2. And if the rumors are true Microsoft are looking to make a portable console themselves for next-gen, would seem odd to then release all your games on a rival handheld when you're trying to get your own off-the-ground. So... what other platforms are there? I guess they could add an Xbox Cloud app to Apple TV? 🙃
@greatone8013 $240 for Ultimate in the States. The value comes down to how much you play, as that's roughly three new games at $70 a year. That said, Game Pass isn't exclusive to the console, being available natively on PC and mobile via cloud gaming.
I think a handheld would be cool. Every now and then I wish I could play Xbox in the bath.
Thats a bold strategy, Cotton
Problem is , handhelds are niche. No matter how cool you think they are, most people don't agree. Nintendo branding sells the Switch. MS will have a tough go at a Handheld and have to be ready for decades of fighting for market share. Even Sony couldn't keep a handheld going long term.
Bring the games, and I WILL CHOOSE WHERE I PLAY.
If next xbox suports steam or other 3rd party stores... exclusives will be a thing of the past cause you will be able to play all of them just like pc gamers. what Xbox can do is turn playstation into a 2nd class experience by releasing games with two different schedules\time frame.
Or "timed exclusives", as they're known, yes
Theres plenty of AA and indie titles on Gamepass that i wish i could play via handheld.
This is Phil's legacy.
Phil’s legacy….killing off of the Xbox console and making the Xbox brand irrelevant….yea great job Phil 🤡🤦🏻♂️
It's not unpopular opinion with me
Hardware is not how they make money.
2) these bozo’s say they don’t want to force Gamepass on anyone but yet are still trying to shove down people’s throats that COD and every 1st party game is on there day 1 and trying to grow it
3) These BOZO’s no longer market the Xbox console and instead are putting WAYY more focus on PC and cloud and saying STUPID slogans like “no console required” like buffoons which continues to devalue the console even more!
It’s only unpopular in certain circles
Microsoft would be better-off just adding an "Xbox Mode" to Windows 12.
"Held down the B-button and snuck into the Bloomberg offices" 🤣 Nice!
Every single person that gets this reference knees hurt when it gets cold outside.
Isn't the money in consoles in the software? Why would a third party want to make hardware at very little margin?
Exactly: games sales and subscriptions plug the losses on the console sales.
Third-parties only have just the console to make a profit from, and I see no reason why they'd want to make losses on Microsoft's behalf? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Apparently, if you keep repeating the word ‘value’, it answers all questions
see Nintendo 😂
Theoretically Xbox could just have 3rd parties create variances of the Series line that are more powerful.
Right, just make a "certified for Xbox" or something like that at this point - the new consoles are just PCs with a specific app package.
This is a stupid idea y’all are drunk respectfully
@@bdsamsHey Brad. In a future video, maybe you could elaborate your thoughts on this as I'm struggling to see why any third-party company would bother?
Microsoft and Sony make losses on their consoles initially, and rely on game and service sales to plug that gap. Third-parties don't have that benefit.
And the 3DO already tested this idea a while back, and it didn't work as the more companies who make the consoles, the tighter the margins become due to all the competition.
How do you see it might work? 🤔
@@dftfireThank you for asking the obvious question. I look forward to hearing the response.
Black ops 6/indian jones is on PlayStation
Sounds like they want Xbox to be their next Windows in terms of software/services. Yes you can buy a traditional console or handheld directly from Microsoft. But they also want the Xbox user experience to be incorporated on other 3rd party devices. Including their competitors. Phones, tablets, consoles, PC, TVs.
They'd be better off just adding an "Xbox Mode" into Windows 12 and make it offer benefits over just running games now, like eliminating the need for anti-cheat tools and parking Windows while you're in it
what Xbox experience 😂 that doesn't mean anything

If they do a handheld it also needs to be upgradable.
Why would other vendors make Xbox hardware? What’s in it for them?
Regarding being in talks still, those aren't one and done given the live service nature and evolving market. So, no need to be so pessimistic. Just means they're thinking of how best to lure customers to their storefront and what to launch day 1, with incentives, etc. Very much like how they curate Game Pass.
Games are going cuz they own two of the biggest publishers in the industry and want to buy more. I don’t know why that’s so hard to understand for some of y’all. They never said everything is going either. Just a few days ago PlayStation also said they are going to release more games on more platforms……
Xbox players wouldn't complain if SONY gave us the same courtesy by putting some of their games on our console but that'll literally never happen
Well, they do put some of their AAA titles on a rival, Microsoft-owned platform... but it's the one called "Windows", not "Xbox" 😏
because Sony is playing to win while Microsoft has no clue
Bottom line is MS needs to make money. There just isn't enough of a player base to make games xbox console exclusive
Brad, it depends where you live it's over $1000 wear. I live
I'm done with both. Sony is now just a subpar PC. Nintendo is the only one I would consider thanks to their catalog.
@ Most of Nintendo’s games aren’t really for me. With the way console platform holders are behaving, a PC is looking better and better each day.
Thanks Brad for the informative news/content & please continue to upload interesting content's into the future. Have a nice day. !
Maybe next gen instead of a S it could be replaced with a handheld with the same power as the next S
Xbox taking over ❤ more games for everyone.
@ is this a serious question?? Xbox leaving the console market would be the STUPIDEST thing they can do right now for a variety of reasons. Which is why their new strategy of putting 1st party games on PlayStation have everyone concerned and makes no sense.
@@jared5706 Latest sales figures are 28.3 million Xbox Series and 65.6 million PS5.
Even with their recent IP acquisitions, it's still not bringing many-more people into Xbox, and yet they need to keep funding AAA titles, which keep costing more to make.
If putting games on PS5 isn't an answer, what else could they do? 🤔
Consoles wars are stupid it's time to end the wars
Because the culture of XBOX gamers is just that. Ask yourself if it was PS. Or Nintendo..... we have to stop pretending
Of course us Sony fans want halo and gears of war on PlayStation hell ya we do
Ps5 pro is more then 1000 Brad where I am from lol 😂

Don't buy it then?

I barely used my ps5 inn4 years I mainly use serious x so I wouldn’t be buying one for my remaster games…
I can do that with my base console…
Why mobile, when that is the most crowded and competitive market now? Xbox couldn't compete in the console space.
I'm glad he finally confirmed what everyone knew was happening. I'm also glad I now only need a PS5 to play basically everything except Nintendo games.
And I only need a PC to play them ALL. PC is the way, period.
Xbox only considering a handheld device now because of the growing of the steam deck!
And the Switch, which has sold more than all PS5 and Series S and X combined
@dftfire yeah but Microsoft don't really care about Nintendo, steam is actually pushing Linux to user and that hurt in to ends for Microsoft
It's because of switch and then everyone else jumped on and followed even steam deck.
I want a $2000 Xbox Series Z that blows everything out of the water.
That's called a PC 🙃
Steam is getting bigger and bigger every year.
Question is.... Are those totally new user for gaming space or are console players flooding to that platform.
I switched after two decades with and from PlayStation....
This is how we win. Bleed GREEN!!!!!
Didn't the 3DO already try this model and prove it didn't work? 🤔
If Xbox going to farm out to PC vendors, they better learn from what happened to Valve's steam machine.
Why would PC vendors want to make losses on Microsoft's behalf? 🤷🏻♂️
"Corporate Overlords" 😂😂😂
I will say this is where Xbox may win where sega had their losses...
PS made it offical too the CEO will bring the whole slate over to Xbox and Windows.
Death Stranding already on Xbox

@@ltzJBAssuming everyone with a Series S or X, or Xbox One, is still actively using them, about 86 million.

If they want to continue to make more money, they're either going to have to get more people to buy an Xbox Series (which so far hasn't been working massively) or release games on other platforms, like PS5 and SUPER Switch
Speaking of making more money, is this the reason why they sold Tango Gameworks, closed Alpha Dog and Arkane Austin ????
Yes, because none of those studios made games that were very profitable if at all. All of them may have made cult favorites, but they never sold well enough to make a big profit.

I still don´t know, what will happen to The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo since XBOX / Microsoft kept those two games.
Yeah if xbox is the only console without exclusives, then I’m done buying Xboxes. I’ll be out of the gamepass ecosystem and honestly I’ll probably end up buying less Microsoft games also. It’s been a full year of them being intentionally vague about their intentions, so I’m probably done with Xbox after the series x either way.

Xbox handheld in 2026...
Lmfao.
Of you ever believed that.
I honestly think Phil is a disaster for the console.
Sony is going to beat them to market with a handheld
So if gamepass is the difference maker in microsoft/xbox Gaming, why not just make a streaming box for $199.99 with 2 or 3 terabytes of memory. A handheld for streaming and a tablet gaming surface model. So you can play xbox gamepass and PC gamepass on one device. 😮 I'm in. 7:58
Why would you need 2 or 3 TBs of memory if it's a streaming box, and streaming still isn't where it needs to be.
At this point Phil is just afraid to say full slate because he knows it will hurt Xbox even more than it's already hurting.
pl;aystaion is funding gamepass and then some. it's genius. Console market has been dead for over a decade, it's inevitable that games go everyhere.
@@spazco8669It's cute that you think something that has been a massive factor in video gaming since pretty much day one of the industry will magically go away and the cut throat industry will suddenly start singing kumbaya together. Let me know how that goes on your Windows phone, while I watch videos on my MS Hololens 2. MS has a long track record of failing in the tech market because they don't actually want to compete they hop trends and jump ship when things start to get hard, and Xbox consoles are in real danger of becoming the next one on that list.
Games going everywhere is fundamentally stupid. There will be no difference as to what machine to purchase if everything is everywhere. If that's the direction these companies are going, I think it's better to have a joint venture console, and let both Xb n PS put their respective libraries in it. Your all a bunch of drama queens. I buy a console for many reasons, not exclusives. Exclusives should not exist. The next Box completely outperforming PS5 pro. Play anywhere needs to be improved.
Whether you like the look of the PS5 is subjective and down to opinion, not fact.
If they farm out the consoles they will be 1000 bucks.
I would rather they sell them at a loss like they normally do.
The message is clear just buy PS6 and not Xbox 5
If you're into PS L's, don't like gamepass, day 1 games, play anywhere etc. then yeah more power to ya.

I'm an Xbox guy for the most part but I think that them making a handheld is kind of stupid...🤔
